Author's Note: Hiii its me again! I'm back after a while with a new story! This one's based Demon Slayer Kimetsu No Yaiba. I recently got into the series and I fell in love with it. But I noticed there were NO sickfics of it on here. So to my disappointment I thought, okay time to take matters into my own hands here! And after a few months of thinking, I got this interesting idea. And I'm aware that the manga confirms that demons can't get sick, but hey Nezuko's a unique demon so maybe she's an exception) It'll be a bit more intense than my usual fluffy fics, this one has a bit of a story arc to it. As usual I hope you enjoy and I hope I do these characters justice or get their personalities right in the writing because I've only been into this series for a couple months.
This may also be my longest fic yet. I have some plans for this one c:
Chapter 4: Tanjiro and Zenitsu clean up the wound Nezuko inflicted on her brother, then come back to a surprising sight.
Tanjiro sat down on the bathroom floor as Zenitsu kneeled down and began to remove Tanjiro's robe to where he could see the injury. He flinched at the sight of it a bit before he took the cloth and wrung it out and begun to wash his friend's wound. He wasn't the best with first aid, but he felt like Tanjiro was counting on him with this task so he did whatever he could to the best of his ability. Tanjiro just looked at Zenitsu with the warm gentle smile he always gave. This made him feel like he could keep going with this task.
"Thank you Zenitsu." Tanjiro said still smiling at him.
"O-Oh sure…" he responded looking a bit bashful in the process.
"No, I mean… Thank you for noticing what happened to Nezuko. If it weren't for you and your ears, I don't think I would have noticed." he smiled brighter. "You're a hero."
"I am?" he asked blushing and then starting to feel proud to save his beloved Nezuko.
"Yes, and I'm sure she'd be grateful too, if she weren't in this state..."
Zenitsu frowned and looked at Tanjiro still cleaning the wound slowly, the blood turning the cloth a bit red.
"What should we do now Tanjiro?" Zenitsu asked. "She seems really sick, so she should probably rest, not journey with us on this mission."
"I know that. I'm worried though, I've never seen her get sick since she became a demon. Not once." Tanjiro looked down. "This is a first for her…and so far, the experience has been hard on all of us."
"Should we go back to the Corps and take her to the butterfly estate? Maybe Aoi or Shinobu can help her." the blond suggested. "They were able to help us too after that fight in the mountains with those freaky spiders..."
"That's what I was thinking too, but I don't think we'll be able to tonight… It's too late right now. We may need to wait for morning." Tanjiro responded with slight anxiety in his voice. He was worried Nezuko wouldn't make it through the night if they didn't.
"You're right… But what are we going to do? Can we even do anything to help a sick demon?"
"We have to try Zenitsu." Tanjiro said. "We'll do what we can for her tonight. It's all we can do."
"Okay..." Zenitsu said before he clumsily tried wrapping Tanjiro's now clean injury with bandages. Tanjiro chuckled watching him.
"You've never done this before have you?" he asked smiling.
Zenitsu looked to him blushing "N-No… Is it really that bad?"
"No, its fine, but you've got to tighten it more." The water breather said. "you see, pressure needs to be against the wound for it to properly heal and not open up again."
"Oh really? I didn't know that. You sure know a lot about this." Zenitsu said taking it off and trying again with a new clean bandage wrap.
"My little brothers and sisters got hurt playing around a lot. I ended up learning a few tricks from our mother." Tanjiro replied with slight melancholy in his voice. "Nezuko too… She was even better than me with treating injuries. She really did take after our mom."
"Wow… She sounds like she was…such a wonderful girl as a human." Zenitsu said looking lovey-dovey clearly fantasizing about her.
"Yes. She was…" he responded getting up. "Come on, hurry, we should get back to them."
Zenitsu nodded standing too and wrapped the bandage as tight as he could. "Like this?"
"Yes, that will do, thanks Zenitsu." He said putting his robe back on.
Zenitsu blushed as both of them went back to the room where Inosuke and Nezuko were.
They opened the door and Zenitsu noticed something as his ears reacted. It seemed Nezuko's distressed breathings were calmer. She even sounded like she was more stable.
Tanjiro and Zenitsu looked down to see Inosuke laying down on his futon his mask now off, with his arms and legs wrapped around Nezuko, who was wrapped in the blanket to where only her head was showing. Just as Tanjiro asked, Inosuke did the job almost too perfectly. She was still breathing heavily but the patterns of it were calmer and less panicked. She looked like she was fast asleep. They both stood in shock and awe of what they saw.
"Inosuke…" Tanjiro gasped "What did you do? She seems…so much calmer."
"Yeah, what happened? Her breathing settled down?" Zenistu followed "How'd you do that?"
Inosuke's heavily lashed green eyes looked up at the two before looking back down at Nezuko. He then looked up at them again and began to speak.
"….Back in the mountains…whenever I saw young animals fall sick or tremble from the cold like this…the parents would always wrap their bodies around them to give them warmth in their shivering state. She's so weak and frail…she reminded me of those weak baby animals. So… I just did what I saw. Anything they can do…I can do too." He said as he tiredly nuzzled the small burrito wrapped demon closing his eyes.
Inosuke's tone was different when he spoke. His boisterous attitude and loud voice had completely vanished. He sounded serious. Like a normal person, even a caring person. He looked almost parental towards her. Was he that worried about Nezuko? Or was he just following his animal instincts? Either way he was being more helpful than either of the two boys thought.
"She didn't hurt you, did she?" Tanjiro asked.
"No, I'm too strong to get hurt by this weak and small thing." the dark-haired boy responded.
"Wow. You're amazing Inosuke! Whatever you did really helped to soothe her. She looks much more peaceful…" the demon's brother said smiling as he leaned down beside them to check on her. Placing his hand on her cheek. But her temperature showed no signs of change.
"She's still got that high fever…but she looks comfortable enough…" he smiled down at her unexpected caretaker. "Thank you Inosuke."
He nodded and yawned. "You can leave this one to me, Monjiro..." he then drifted off to sleep still holding the demon close to him.
Tanjiro smiled getting up and then sat down at his own futon.
"Are you really going to leave her to him the whole night?" Zenitsu asked sitting at his own looking concerned.
Tanjiro chuckled. "Of course not. He'll let her go eventually in his sleep. Then I'll have to take over. It's nice that he cares though."
Zenitsu nodded. "Yeah, I didn't think he had this kind of side to him. Too bad we never see it."
Thats it for Chapter 4. To be honest, I kinda feel like Inosuke has a kind tender nature deep down under that wild demeanor of his. Just like his mom c:
