Dedicated to China, for always motivating and assuring me without ever realising it. Thanks, girl.

Alex sat in the waiting room, looking anxiously at the white door that held behind it the worlds cutest puppy. Dix was in there, having been the one to demand the vet see the little pup. Alex had never felt so worried before in her life.

After what seemed like days, but was properly only hours, the vet, a red faced woman who excelled at her job, opened the door and smiled at Alex.

"She's in a stable condition. You can come in now."

Alex nodded her thanks and went in. The pup was hooked up to a lot of tubes and wires, but she was breathing soundly. Thank god. D.C was sitting next to her, and smiled faintly when Alex came in.

"Hey, Alex," She said.

Alex smiled, and sat down on the puppy's other side. Dix was the first to break the silence.

"You know, I've never been so worried in my life," She started, letting out a laugh that sounded anything but humorous. "I looked into his eyes on the beach and just, ya know, knew. Knew that he was a fighter, and that we had to save him. When they said we had to wait- well, I knew I wasn't going to let that happen. I was ready to do anything to get him treated. So, I started yelling, and here we are. I, just, I feel really, really bad. Like, the vet was doing everything she could, and I just sat here on my ass, yelling at her to do more. And she did. She saved him, and now I feel terrible."

"Oh, Dix," Alex said softly, tears coming to her eyes, "You're the reason that she is alive. I didn't do much at all. So you can not start feeling guilty, OK? Though, if it means that much to you, you can always apologise to the vet. She will understand."

Dix smiled, nodded, and looked confused. "She?" She asked.

"Congratulations," Alex said, smiling, "It's a girl!"

They both chuckled softly.

The vet found them a few minutes after their heartfelt exchange, and asked them a few questions. Like where they had found the pup. When Alex had explained, tears falling down her face, the vet had looked furious.

"That's the third time this week," She admitted, her scowl promising whoever had done it a painful death. "It's just sad, it is. Thank god there are people like you girls who were there and ready to help. Some people just wouldn't, you know." She shook her head, and Dix quickly offered an apology for how she had acted. The vet shook her head again, this time in amusement.

"Nothing to be sorry about, my dear," She reached out to pat Dix's hand. "We will do anything to help those we love, and, in any case, I've had worse said to me. Now, there's just one more thing that we need to discuss," Noticing their confused looks, she clarified, "We need to know who's going to be looking after this gorgeous girl. We can always put her up for someone else to adopt, but I feel like you two wouldn't like to do that."

Alex looked at Dix. She shook her head.

"Can we have some time, please?" Alex asked.

"Of course, dear!" The vet smiled and walked out, shutting the door quietly behind her.

"Well, what do you think?" Alex asked.

"I don't know," Dix said, "It's just a lucky thing that our apartment allows animals."

Alex nodded in agreement, and in that second knew what she had to do. She looked into her friend's eyes, and spoke.

"You should have her, Dix," Alex said quietly, "You were the one who did all the work. And anyway, you've had a pet dog before, and would know what to do."

Her friend was shaking her head.

"No, Alex," She said just as quietly, "You should have her. You have a stable job and lifestyle, and you're already doing what you love in life. If I do hear back from that modeling place, then I won't even have enough time to care for a dog. Besides, she will live with me anyway, it's not like I won't see her."

Alex nodded, knowing that she was right.

"Okay," She agreed, "I will be her owner. But, on one, wait no, two conditions. You get to name her, and will help me with her. I've always wanted a dog, but I have no idea what I'm meant to be doing, and I want her to have happy life."

Dix smiled, and nodded.

"Good."

The vet came back in, and they sorted out all the paperwork, D.C telling Alex the name she had picked out. Soraya. It was pretty, and completely matched her. Alex loved it.

They walked out, and drove back home. By this time, Alex could barely keep upright, exhausted as she was, but the warm bundle of fur in her arms kept her going. She was surprised that Soraya had been well enough to come home with them, but the vet had said that all she really needed was a bed, hot water bottle and long nap. They had purchased all the those things from the vet, thanking her and promising to come back should Soraya need anything.

Dix unlocked their door, and put down the dog bed in the small living room and went off to prepare the hot water bottle. She came back with it, and set it up for Soraya. Alex wordlessly put the pup in her bed, making sure she was comfortable. Dix went off to her room, but Alex stayed on their tiny sofa, falling asleep the minute she was sure that Soraya was safe and sound in her bed.

Wow! That was a fun chapter to write, and I hope you enjoyed it. Sorry I haven't uploaded for so long, I was pretty busy but from now on I will try to upload at least once a week, maybe every two weeks. Anyway, I promise that the story will start having more Kaiden in it soon, I just couldn't resist putting Soraya in.

Oh, and one last thing. Do you think I should put Declan in this story? Tell me what you think. Thanks for reading! ~ FandomWritingBae
