I've been on a roll lately lol, so yeah, here's another update. Thank you all for the kind reviews, they make me really happy :)))
Some days it's hard to get out of bed. It's hard to think and it's hard to breathe. Some days I can't even brush my teeth or get dressed, those days Quinn does it for me. Some days I just feel like I'm falling apart all over again. Today feels like one of those days.
After minutes of contemplation, Santana gets out of bed and ends up just staring at herself in the bathroom mirror. She thought about calling her, but what difference would it make? She fucked it up. She couldn't even blame Maya for ghosting her, it must have been so hard. Putting all her problems on someone else wasn't fair, or that's what Santana thought anyways. After splashing her face with water she went back into her bedroom to pick out today's outfit. It's not like today could be any worse than yesterday, Quinn used to say. Of course it could, Santana had learned that the hard way. She got dressed and put her hair up in a high pony, classic. Then she headed out the door without bothering to say goodbye to her roommate.
After yesterday, Brittany wasn't all that excited to come into work. Will had asked her to come in early to go over plans for signing a new client, whom she really needed to convince that "The Pages" were the best source of copier paper around. Her sales game had been seriously lacking lately and Sugar hadn't stopped bugging her about it.
Brittany entered the office and hung her coat over her desk chair. She sat down and turned on her computer, waiting for her boss to arrive. Santana Lopez's desk, which Will had strategically placed next to hers, was still completely empty. Why did she have to be the one to take care of this clearly incompetent woman? She had better things to do than babysitting. Well... Contrary to what Will had told the new employee yesterday, Brittany wasn't an ideal employee. Not even close. She spent most of her days playing solitaire while pretending to work, and she couldn't be away from her computer for too long because the IT guy would update it and she would lose minesweeper. But Will liked her, she was friendly and a great person to have around the office, maybe Will had hoped that some of that would rub off on Santana.
Brittany was so deeply captivated by the cat video she was watching on youtube, that she didn't hear the office door opening behind her. Santana, who had expected the office to be empty at this hour, was thrown for a loop by the blonde head of hair in front of her.
Fuck
She didn't know whether to speak up or not, after all, this was the woman whose car she had crashed. After a full minute of just staring at the back of Brittany's head, desperately trying to come up with a solution, she hung her coat on the rack and timidly walked up to her.
"Um...hi" she mumbled while sitting down at her desk, immediately frustrated by the uncomfortable office chair that was clearly made by a blind, crippled immigrant with no sense of human anatomy. No one fucking sits like this.
Brittany flinched as Santana's voice broke her out of her "cat-loving" daze. For a second she forgot just who stood before her and smiled at the other woman. A smile that was short-lived.
"Crashed any more cars since yesterday?" Brittany considered herself a pro-trash-talker, but literally everyone else disagreed. Santana chuckled at the other woman's attempt to offend her.
"Look, I said I was sorry a million times, okay? And I NEVER apologize"
Brittany wasn't a violent person, she rarely got angry, and she wouldn't let some rude stranger ruin that. So she took a deep breath and returned to watching her cat videos, ignoring Santana's attempt at forgiveness.
After 20 minutes of contemplating going to the break room, Santana opted for eating her lunch at her desk. But that was a good thing she thought, she didn't need to make friends with her colleagues. She had Kurt and Quinn and she truly appreciated them, even though they were completely insufferable at times. Since Santana had been sleeping her days away for the past week, she had missed multiple episodes of Animal Planet. It was not something she was proud of, but it truly was her favorite show. It just… calmed her down. After scoping out the office and making sure that no one else was around, she pulled up youtube and watched a clip of an episode she had missed a couple of days before.
Brittany, who had gone for a walk on her lunch break, returned to find her new colleague stuffing lettuce in her mouth while watching something on her computer. As Brittany got closer she couldn't help but smile.
"So...Animal Planet, huh?" She said as she plopped down on her chair, startling Santana.
"Oh um…" Incredibly thankful for the fact that ethnic people can't blush, she paused the video and turned to Brittany. "Yeah…" She smiled, looking down at her hands.
"Never pegged you for that kind of person"
Wanky. "What kind of person?" Santana immediately recoiled, who was Brittany to assume which kinda person she was?
"Oh just… You just don't seem like the animal-lover type" Brittany answered, scared to offend the other woman.
"Oh, I'm not… It's just kind of a guilty pleasure." She said, wringing her hands. Santana was tired, she was too tired. Today was one of those days where everything seemed pointless. She simply didn't have enough energy to keep up her tough facade, and something about Brittany made her not even want to try. Brittany, who had always been a master at reading people, noticed a change in atmosphere and scooted her chair so it was next to Santana's, feeling all her resentment towards the other woman fade away.
"Can I watch it with you?"
"Aren't you supposed to be mad at me or something?" Santana said, meeting Brittany's gaze.
"I don't know, probably," She said, to which Santana giggled.
"Yeah... yeah you can watch," Santana said and unpaused the video.
