"Mother, Father this is the rest of my team Toby a world class behaviourist, Slyvester a mathematical prodigy, Happy a mechanical and engineering prodigy and I'm sure you remember Cabe, whose been instrumental in bringing the company to where it is today".
The team were pleasantly surprised. It was rare Walter announced them in such a way- but they (rightly) assumed it was Paige's idea to put Sean and Louise more at ease of the strangers that would be involved in their lives for however long it took to clear Sean's name.
"Gallo" Sean gruffly said as he shook the older man's hand and nodded at him. He never trusted the Agent and was still angry about the man locking his young son away for 3 days before giving him an updated version of exactly what got him into trouble in the first place.
It had also angered him the insidious way he made himself so important in Walter's life and then convinced him to leave Ireland with his sister to a place he'd never known.
Though he'd never really connected with Walter he'd always been jealous of the way Walter idolised the Agent- somewhat replacing him as the father figure in Walter's life. Walter had refused Sean's offer of teaching him how to box, but then he'd bragged to Megan that Cabe had taught him how to fight. Walter had made it clear he had no interest in learning how to continue the running of the farm when he and Louise were no longer able to work anymore- but he was damn near jumping for joy when Cabe had asked him to help the American government, excited to prove himself to his new father figure.
To make it worse not long after the family were separated Cabe admitted over the phone to Sean that he'd destroyed Walter's trust, resulting in his boy setting out on his own path in a strange country while struggling to pay for his older sister's mounting medical expenses. Megan had expressed concern a few times in the first few years that Walter was working himself into a early grave and worried that some of the bigger bills may have been paid by not-quite-legal means.
America may have the better health care but Ireland had the HSE- not free but not the insane costs of America, and Megan had told them Walter paid for the best of the best- the costs had been running into millions of dollars despite their insurance. The 500 euro a month Sean and Louise could afford to send a month barely covering her meals.
When he heard Cabe was back into his son's life he was angry and scared for the boy but from Megan's calls the older man had appeared to somewhat redeem himself in his children's eyes since re-entering Walter's life. It was a relief to them that Homeland was now covering the majority of Megan's health care, but Megan had refused to answer Sean and Louise when asked what Walter did for a living now. Something that had concerned them greatly.
Sean was pulled out of his musings when Walter finally spoke again after Louise had fussed over the new guests, grateful for their help. "...Megan's Boyfriend" Walter had mumbled. Sean's eyebrows immediately raised in surprise "I sorry can you repeat that?" Sean asked incredulously.
"Er S-Sylvester is Meg-Megan's Boyfriend" Walter Stuttered clearly uncomfortable with the shocked look his father was giving him.
He thought he couldn't be more surprised but when a small brown haired child darted from behind the team right into Walter's arms for a tight hug Sean thought he was going to pass out.
Who was the child? Was he a Grandad?
Not for the first time that week Sean cursed both his and his son's inability to hold a telephone conversation with each other. It certainly would've cleared some things up. He didn't think he could cope with anymore surprises at the moment.
