The pair slept soundly on opposite sides of the bed usually , however tonight was different. Sam had Shifted into Dylan's embrace, allowing him to wrap his arms around her waist . She woke with the sun , stretching out after a night of rest.

"Morning ," Dylan smiled .

" mmm ," she mumbled softly. Dylan brushed her hair back with the tips of his fingers.

" I've been thinking ," he started .

" What have I told you about that mm , don't think too hard - it'll hurt that little Brain of yours ," she chuckled.

" Well the thing is , they want retired doctors to re-enter the NHS . To aid the pandemic relief effort and well … you're a retired doctor technically speaking," he explained cautiously.

She would be Lying if she said she hadn't thought about trying to get back into that area of medicine again , she had once stated medicine was her one true love and perhaps she was right .

" grumpy … it's a lovely thought - really it is and I'm sure you've got some master plan drawn up but nobody would take me now. I haven't practiced properly in 4 years and nobody wants a whistleblower," she sighed.

" Samantha just listen for once . I've thought it all through , we just need to touch up your CV and apply for some registrar positions for you . If I was the board I'd be jumping for a doctor with your experience. In regards to experience you are first class - Afghanistan, years of experience in emergency departments, you did 4 months in a gp practice between tours . Doctors like you don't come by everyday ," he encouraged.

" I'm not a doctor anymore Dylan, I don't want to be a doctor anymore ! " she huffed getting up out of bed leaving Dylan shook .

Why didn't she want to be a doctor ? Medicine was her life . What has happened to knock her confidence so severely?

Pulling a hoodie over her head , she placed her earphones into her ears , applied a face mask and headed out of the door for a run. Foo fighters blasted into her ears as she concentrated on placing one foot in front of the other .

Dylan couldn't help but sense Sam was hiding something. It took every inch of willpower in his body not to snoop through her things. His instinct to find out why Sam had flown off the handle had truly come from a place of love and care. He wanted to help her, he had heard mumbles in the ED that she had been back to Afghanistan since her marriage to Tom but he wasn't 100% and even if she had Sam's anxiety about her career could be completely unrelated. Maybe she just really enjoyed being a paramedic. Dylan was left clueless.

" Lets see this CV then ," Sam sighed, coming back into the kitchen. She had paced every inch of her mind during her lengthy run , she had to get back on the horse . A smug smile etched across Dylan's face,

" I knew you'd want to give it a go," his eyes plastered with hope.

" Don't go running away with the idea.I just want to see what you've written," she mumbled, her confidence was well and truly in pieces but she was drawn to the idea like a moth to a candle. Her eyes ran over the CV, smiling slightly at how well written it was. Definitely the work of a very dedicated author with an eye for detail- also known as Dylan Keogh.

"Nick Jordan …" she smiled. "You got a reference from Mr Jordan . How ?" Her confusion , evident in her tone.

" Don't you worry about that," he smirked , he knew that the shining reference from none other than Nick Jordan would peak her interest. Sam pondered the thought for a few moments , running her fingers through her shiny , blonde hair.

" okay then, let's give it a go. What's the worst that could happen?" she agreed trying to hide the smile etching across her lips.

Dylan's face exploded into a pride filled smile , " i will work my magic, don't you worry," he grinned. He was so proud of Sam and her inability to ever give in. This was the sam Nicholls he had fallen deeply in love with all those years ago.
