Chapter 4

Yuuto stood in front of a massive blue and white school building with the abbreviation "U.A." The young former bank robber found himself dressed in a grey jacket with blue stripes over a white dress shirt and red tie along with a pair of green dress pants. 'So this a school uniform huh? Feels kinda overly formal and a little hot….' Yuuto thought as he tugged at his collar. The dark haired boy simply stood back and watched as hundreds of other students dressed similarly began pouring into the classroom. "High school, huh?" Yuuto increased his grip on the straps of his school bag. 'Maybe this is not such a good idea.'

(Earlier, the hospital)

"Would you like to be a hero?" The small, mouse-like principle stretched out his palm but Yuuto waved his bandage covered hands to indicate a handshake would not be co\ming. "That's fine, I will also accept a verbal confirmation of your agreement."

"I haven't agreed to anything yet. I've heard of your hero school but I'm not sure why you'd be interested in someone like me." Yuuto shot a confused look back at the rat. "As far as the media is concerned I'm a wanted criminal and even after word of my pardon gets out that won't change public perception. Wouldn't taking me in damage your reputation?"

"Hmmm… You're saying that admitting you into my school could be risky, yes" The small white principle poised, getting Yuuto to confirm with a nod. "That may be true but then again there's a risk when a school such as ours takes on any student. A risk that we fail to prepare our young heroes for the dangers of the profession and they end up hurt. I think something like that reflects much more poorly upon my school taking on a young man who's proven he has the potential to save lives but if it makes you feel better I promise to expel you should you act out in a way that negatively affects my school. Though something tells me that scenario is unlikely." The strangely ambiguous mammal shot down Yuuto's hesitation.

"You know why they're trying to send me overseas, right? It's because I'm a target now, My Dad probably thinks I betrayed him and I doubt he'll let that go unpunished." Yuuto continued. "He might take it out on your school."

"With the staff we've assembled at U.A including the current number one Hero and symbol of peace All Might, I doubt there are very many places safer than my school." Nezu fired back and Yuuto was unable to argue with this. "Young man, I understand if this is a lot to ask of you. I will not lie this will be a challenging experience and may very well be a culture shock but I just want you to know if there were a way for you to dissuade me from this decision then I wouldn't be here."

"Gaaaahhhh…." Yuuto, defeated, growled softly to himself before giving in and coming clean. "When I was a kid, my dad locked me in my room, he'd call me a failure or a disappointment and that's when he was being nice…. I spent hours watching Heroes on TV hoping that one of them would someday be able to save me but that day never came. Regardless, I never blamed the Heroes for not being able to save me. I knew it was impossible but that doesn't change the fact that I'm not the only one suffering like that. I want to be the type of hero who can save people in those impossible situations if your school can help me get there then I'm in."

"Hmmm…." The small rodent-like principle took a moment to think over what Yuuto had said before delivering his answer. "Saving people who are impossible to save? That's a lofty aspiration but if there's any institution on the planet that can help you achieve that goal it's U.A."

(Later, U.A high school faculty room)

GULP! Yuuto swallowed hard as he sat on a chair positioned in the center of a circular desk where a panel of pro heroes and current U.A. teachers who were busy discussing his situation openly in front of him.

"Principle Nezu, you really put us on the spot here." The Pro Hero Powerloader, a skinny, shirtless man with long orange hair sticking out from the back of his large mask which resembled a piece of yellow excavation equipment, said calmly as he penciled something down on a piece of paper.

"I agree." The pro hero midnight, a woman with long, spiky black hair dressed in an overly sexualized leather and latex outfit, spoke out in agreement. "You should've cleared your little idea with us first before going out and making promises to this boy."

"My bad, maybe I did act a bit rashly but I didn't want any other hero course who had the same idea to go out and snatch him up before we could." The small fluffy principle apologized as he nervously scratched his back.

" GRRRAAAAHHH! I DON'T WANT HIM HERE!" Ryo Inui, aka Hound Dog, a bulky man with animal characteristics, roared out violently. "KAMUI WOODS HAD TO SPEND TWO NIGHTS IN THE HOSPITAL CAUSE OF THIS KID AND MOUNT LADY IS STILL HOOKED UP TO A VENTILATOR! HE'S DANGEROUS!"

"He's a kid, cut him some slack." A western, cowboy inspired hero argued back. This was another pro turned teacher nicknamed Snipe. "You know who his father is right? I doubt he had any choice in his actions."

"Class 1-B will take him…." A hulking man in a red costume with white hair and fangs, Sekijiro Kan also known as Vlad King The Blood hero, spoke out to no reaction from the rest of the staff.

Meanwhile Yuuto was forced to sit back and listen in a state of awkward silence. 'Wish they wouldn't talk about me like I'm not right here.'

"My concerns are more about his adjustment to school life much less a hero course." Snipes continued. "He spent most of the last 15 years only knowing the four walls of his own home and according to his own account the only academic interactions he's had in that entire time span has been private tutoring sessions. He's still pretty young for his grade, we could keep him out of class for this semester and slowly inclimate him both socially and academically during that time and place him as a first year hero course student next year."

"I disagree." A scruffy looking man with long black hair, dressed in all black spoke up. This was a relatively unknown and unpopular pro named Eraser head or Shota Aizawa. "I finished grading his written entrance exam before tonight's meeting and his scores would place him academically in the top half of class 1-A. As far as social skills are concerned I don't think wasting any more time would be a good idea, there's only so much time to develop those skills. If we're going to admit him into the hero course, I believe now would be the best time for it."

"Key word being "if"." A man with grey skin and a block shaped head and concrete grey skin reiterated. This Pro's hero name was Cementoss. "I'm concerned about his upbringing and what should happen if his behavior relapses. With a quirk like his should he try to run there's not much any of us could do to stop him."

"Class 1-B will take him…." Vlad King reiterated and again it seems as though no one heard him.

"You may have a point Cementoss…" A scrawny skeleton with a mess of blonde hair, someone Yuuto didn't recognize. "But think about it, if he can relap here then he can do it no matter where he is and if that happens he'll end up right back in the crime element one way or another. Personally I've seen enough from this young man to convince me of his potential, he could've ran from that bank and saved his own skin but he stayed and saved lives, he's already a hero. If you ask me this is where he belongs."

"I agree with All Might." Nezo stood up on top of the circular desk, still not much taller than the teacher who chose to sit.

'That's All Might?!' Yuuto's eyes were quickly drawn to the blonde skeleton. 'It's like someone deflated him.'

"I nominate Yuuto here to be admitted here at U.A. All in favor?" The rat principle called for a show of hands and while not every hand was raised a majority were and that made it official. "Excellent, now Mr Aizawa. I'd like to have Yuuto placed in your Hero Course homeroom, Class 1-A."

"Um… Class 1-B will take…" Vlad King tried to intercede with a raised hand but he wasn't able to finish before Mr Aizawa gave his two cents.

"He'll have to pass the practical exam tomorrow, to MY standards." Eraserhead set his conditions and collected his belongings before standing up to leave but not before delivering parting words along with a serious look aimed at Yuuto. "He'll also be on a VERY short leash."

The staff members began collecting their belongings and exiting the meeting room all except for Vlad King who remained seated with his hand raised but now his lead was lowered with disappointment. "... C-Class 1-B would like this student… please….."

(End of flashback)

"Haaaahhh….." Yuuto let out a sigh as he continued to stare at the front door of the high school. 'Well after all that crap, I guess I can't turn back now and if the greatest hero in the world thinks I've got a shot then I guess I do belong here…. Maybe?'

Yuuto made a strong expression and took his first step forward towards U.A. and his future. Yuuto walked alone down the first year hallways and with every step his mind was flooded with a new set of troubling thoughts. 'This may be my first day but the other students have already been here for a few weeks by now. That means friendships will have already been formed and class dynamics will have been set. It's gonna be tough being a transfer student plus considering my… circumstances and the fact that I haven't exactly spent much time with people my own age it may be difficult to make friends…'

Yuuto stopped in front of the 1-A classroom, placed his hand on the door but hesitated to open. "Whoooo…." He took a deep breath before making a strong face and sliding the door open.

Immediately upon opening the door he was met with a barrage of chatter. Dozens of individual conversations going off as huddles of students had formed in different areas around. Yuuto, not wanting to cause much of a scene, tried to slip in inconspicuously but due to him not having an assigned seat yet he ended up standing awkwardly at the front of the classroom and the other students were quick to take notice.

Quickly the numerous conversations and all eyes found themselves trained on Yuuto and neither side was willing to say anything to the point where a level of tension began to form. Suddenly one of the students, a young man with neatly flattened blue hair, glasses and an imposing physique, began to march towards Yuuto. "Hello, I'm Class 1-A's representative Tenya Iida. Do you need something?"

"Uh well…." Yuuto scratched his chin confused on how to proceed. "I'm…."

"Oh, there you are." Mr Aizawa interrupted, having had quietly slipped into the classroom. "Nice to see you on time for your first day, go wait in the hallway for me to call you in and you Iida, you need to take your seat."

(Later)

"Alright Class, we have a new student joining us today. We also have a lot to cover so let's try to keep introductions brief." On the signal from Mr Aizawa the classroom door slid open and Yuuto made his entrance for the second time.

The shaggy haired young man quickly scribbled his name down on the whiteboard at the front of the class before bowing to his classmates. "Yuuto Genji, nice to meet you all."

The introduction sparked a wave of muttering from the class. "Genji? Where have I heard that name before?" "Yeah, and isn't his face kinda familiar." "He's not a celebrity I'm pretty sure but I do know him from somewhere…"

Yuuto shot Mr Aizawa a nervous look and his teacher responded with a stern nod getting the former crook to respond with a sigh. "Haahhh…. It was also determined by both U.A. and the National Police force that it would be a good idea for me to explain my personal history." Yuuto took a deep breath before spilling. "Some of you may recognize my face or my name from the news and for those who don't, three days ago I was a criminal wanted on two counts of armed robbery and for three assault charges not to mention a number of quirk use violations. I'm responsible for putting both pro heroes Kamui Woods and Mount Lady in the hospital and while the police have dropped all my criminal charges I'm required to inform you that I committed those crimes in a conscious state of mind and I'm still considered by the police to be potentially dangerous…. That's it…" Yuuto didn't look up as he finished his "introduction" he simply marched, head down, to the very back of the classroom where a 21st desk had been set up for him next to a window.

Yuuto plopped himself down at the desk and tried to focus his attention forward on the oncoming lesson but he couldn't manage to get past the twenty pairs of eyes that were now locked on him. Some were scared, others confused and a few even seemed angry but no one seemed able to speak their emotions.

It was up to the teacher, Mr Aizawa, to try and calm things at least a little. "I understand how this information may cause some confusion amongst you and U.A will be holding a meeting open to any all concerned parents and students regarding Yuuto's enrollment at the end of the week and I know asking you just to accept him as a part of this class may be a lot considering his background and his recent transgressions but in his introduction Yuuto failed to mentioned that he saved 27 lives from a burning building which is more hero experience then most of you can even imagine at this point. Yuuto is on a short leash here and he knows that so I can understand if you can't fully accept him right off the bat but I hope you'll give him a chance."

Slowly but surely the numerous stares eventually subsided one after another, with the exception of one, a boy with spiky blonde hair lingered a little longer than the rest with his angry glare before eventually looking away as well as Aizawa continued. "That being said the rest of you will be receiving a free period this morning while I conduct the physical portion of Yuuto's entrance exam." This resulted in a cheerful response from the class. "Iida, show Yuuto to the locker room and then bring him to Ground Beta, I'll meet the two of you there in ten minutes. If any of you would like to watch, you're more than welcome to."

(Later)

Yuuto emerged from the 1-A boys locker room dressed in the black T-Shirt and dark grey cargo pants that made up his former villain costume. "Kinda feels wrong without the stupid mask…" He muttered to himself. Waiting outside for him was class representative Tenya Iida, standing perfectly upright and looking intensely at the dark haired young man. "Let's go…" Yuuto said as he walked past the class rep who remained still as a statue.

"I read about you. More specifically I read about your father." Tenya explained, getting Yuuto to turn and look at him with a blank expression. "We can't choose who our families are, if anything I see it as a credit to you that you managed to make the right decision when called to do so despite your upbringing. What I'm saying is you don't need to treat yourself as a villain, put any of us in your shoes and who knows what-"

"Let me stop you right there." Yuuto interrupted. " It's true that I did what I did because I was afraid of my father but trust me I'm not the only criminal who acted out of fear for that monster and most of those guys are rotting behind bars as they should be, as I should be. So save your sympathy, I don't deserve it…" Yuuto said before marching forward.

(Later)

Yuuto stood alone in front of a large automatic gate doing a set of stretches as a group of his classmates had gathered a few meters away. It was less than ten students and at that point the only face Yuuto recognized by name was the class rep Tenya Iida but the angry looking blonde haired boy had shown up and next to him stood a boy with tall spiky red hair and a sharp toothed smile. Next to Iida was a fairly normal looking girl with shoulder length brown hair and a boy with messy green hair seemed to be muttering to himself. A tall young lady with a spiraling spiky ponytail of black hair with a long grouping of bangs hanging down on the right side of her face.

Yuuto noticed the group would occasionally steal glimpses his way before turning back to gossip amongst themselves which caused the ex bank robber to roll his eyes. He decided to refocus on his stretching and didn't notice the seventh member of group fearlessly waddle his way up to him.

"So this is your costume? Not very impressive." A short young man with dark purple orbs sitting on top of his head commented with his nasally tone of voice. "It'll be tough getting any attention with a costume like that."

Yuuto looked down at his child looking classmate and for whatever reason felt compelled to answer his question. "I guess not…." He quickly answered back, not making eye contact with the purple headed young man.

"So what's your quirk anyway?" The less than four foot tall high school student continued his fearless pestering. "The news was never really sure but I remember reading an article that thought you could make smoke or something."

"Uh, no it's actually…." Yuuto tried to current the misinformation but upon the mention of quirks the young man with shaggy green hair had somehow managed to find himself just a few inches from the other two.

"Actually Mineta, they found pellets at the first crime scene with chemical traces that could be combined to create smoke so they ruled that out as his quirk. Neither Mount Lady nor Kamui Woods have released in statements yet but some of the cops from the crime scene were interviewed and they believe his quirk to be some kind of super speed." The green haired boy began rambling on.

"That's not….." Yuuto tried once again to interject but he didn't raise his voice high enough and now Iida had made his way into the group.

"Super Speed huh? Well that would make him a speed type like myself, how interesting!" The glasses-wearing giant exclaimed enthusiastically before he made a quick scan of Yuuto's costume. "Though if that is the case, I'd have to agree with Mineta. Along with not being very eye catching at first glance, those baggy cargo pants look like they'd get in the way of your leg movements and create unnecessary wind resistance."

"No I'm trying to tell you…." Even though the three man group that had formed around him was relatively small Yuuto quickly found himself feeling boxed in as a bead of nervous sweat formed on his forehead. 'Man… I guess I'm not used to being around people my own age, I'm starting to feel overwhelmed. What should I say? If I raise my voice too loud I'd probably scare them… I guess I should just wait till they calm down so I can better explain myself…'

"Why don't you let Yuuto demonstrate his quirk for himself before you go jumping to conclusions." The ever tired voice of Eraserhead called out as he finally made his entrance in front of Ground Beta. "Sorry that you'll have to make use of this limited costume but we're still repairing the damage to some of the more advanced pieces. You should have the rest back before the end of the week, if you're still here by then. So you'll have to complete my entrance exam without the use of your special gear. Are you up to that?"

"Well it's not like I can refuse right?" Yuuto muttered back as he pushed past his classmates and went to meet Mr Aizawa face to face.

"No." He answered sharply before pulling out a small remote control and quickly tapping one of its numerous buttons. Suddenly the previously closed doors to the artificial urban area that was Ground Beta opened up and waiting inside were a number of green robots of varying sizes and shapes. "Destroy as many of these robots as you can in the allotted time frame. Are you ready?"

"How many robots do I need to destroy?" Yuuto countered with. "What's the allotted time frame."

"I'll determine both of those factors while I administer your exam." Aizawa explained as he clicked another of the remotes buttons. A video screen rose up from the ground with feed from inside the fake city along with a digital clock that began to tick. "Begin!"

Yuuto quickly disregarded his unanswered questions and turned serious, he looked out onto the testing ground before disappearing into thin air.

"Wow he's gone!" Mineta redundantly pointed out.

"Woah, that's not super speed. Could it be some kind of invisibility." The messy haired boy began to speculate.

"Look at the screen." Aizawa pointed out as the camera feed showed Yuuto now standing on top of a water tower as he began to formulate a plan.

"WOW!" The green haired boy marveled at the screen. "That tower is all the way on the other side of ground beta! He must have some sort of Warping Quirk."

"Bingo!" Aizawa replied unenthusiastically. "Now let's watch and see how he uses it."

The young man continued his observation from the top of the tower before silently warping away. Yuuto suddenly appeared in front of one of the smaller robots. 'Piece of cake….' Yuuto smirked before placing his hand on the robot and the two of them suddenly disappeared together. Then one by one dozens of the small and medium sized robots began to vanish. A handful of them could disappear in less then a second and before anyone could even begin to keep an accurate count more than two thirds of the robots had vanished.

Yuuto suddenly reappeared in the now robot free center of Ground Beta, he quickly dusted off his hands before calling out to the camera. "Are we done now?" CLANG! BANG! CRASH! The robots began to drop from the sky above and they each smashed to pieces when coming to contact with the ground. "That's sixty of them."

The timer on Aizawa's screen had only reached thirty seconds by the time Yuut declared the job done. "Unlike other warping quirks we have records of where the user creates a type of wormhole in some way or another for the user to pass through, Yuuto's quirk essential turns his body into the wormhole and he can transport himself along with anyone he wishes instantaneously with little more than a thought." Aizawa explained. "I wanted you to see it for yourself, despite the mistakes he may have made, with a versatile quirk like that he has the potential to be an incredible hero so I'm asking you to give him a chance." Aizawa explained getting a few quick head nods from the classmates assembled. Having received confirmation Mr Aizawa pressed a button on his controller that ended the exam before speaking into his microphone that broadcasted over the Ground Beta com system. "Alright, you pass…. Now hurry up and get dressed you still have classwork to catch up on…."

(Meanwhile, at the police station)

A light suddenly flashed on in a dark room revealing Tabata Gyukudo, aka Komodo completely chained up from tail to teeth including a steel muzzle wrapped over his mouth. Suddenly, a pair of police officers opened the door to his holding cell.

"Alright Tabata, Your bail's been posted. You're free to go." One of the cops explained as he carefully approached the ten foot reptile with a set of keys as his partner stood back in the doorway to make sure things didn't turn violent. "Must be nice to have friends, huh?" The cop said sarcastically as he began to undo the lizards many locks.

As soon as his muzzle was removed a small smirk formed on the reptile's face. "You have no idea…."
