A/N: Here's Part 4! I never planned to go this far but I'm pretty sure I will continue to write this AU because I really love it.
Sophie had to rush home from work that day. She was running behind and had lost track of time. She slammed on the gas pedal, but told herself to slow down. She was no good to anyone dead. She got home at 7:03, three minutes late. She charged into her apartment building, up the stairs and through the door.
Biana jumped. "Soph, what the hell?" She asked.
"Sorry I'm late!" Sophie exclaimed.
"Sophie. You're three minutes late. It's okay." Biana told her. She was relaxing on the couch, but stood up as Sophie closed the door behind her. Sophie kissed Biana's cheek, her heart still fluttering even after dating for two months already. They were finally going on their actual first date and Sophie was so excited.
She was wearing a simple green shirt and a purple plaid skirt. Sophie had to change out of her work clothes and she quickly went to her bedroom (which was now hers and Biana's bedroom most of the time, though Biana still kept her clothes in the other room) She grabbed a red shirt and black pants and quickly changed into them. She emerged from the bedroom to see Biana leaning against the door.
"You ready?" Sophie asked her, grabbing her small bag.
"Yep." Biana opened the door, bowed, and swept her arm out. "After you, Milady." She said. Sophie rolled her eyes, put her hand on Biana's shoulder as she walked out.
"Thank you." Sophie replied in a similar tone, striding past her girlfriend.
"My pleasure."
. . . . .
They decided to go out for coffee, keeping their first date nice and simple. When they got their drinks, they sat down at a table inside to drink. They were silent for a while.
"Well this is kind of weird." Biana commented.
"I think you're supposed to just talk about random stuff. Like what's your favorite color?" Sophie offered.
"Brown." Biana replied immediately. "Yours?"
"Teal." Sophie said, sipping her drink slowly, not missing the fact that Biana's favorite color was the color of her eyes, and that her favorite color was the color of Biana's eyes. She took another sip of her coffee. "I'm going to go to the bathroom. Be right back." Sophie stood up and went to the bathroom.
When she emerged from the room, there was a boy sitting across from Biana at their table. She looked really uncomfortable and her eyes locked with Sophie's as the boy kept talking to her. Sophie approached the table.
"Excuse me." Sophie said. The boy looked up at her. "This is my seat. Can you leave?"
"I'll just pull up another chair." The boy said, standing.
"No it would really be better if you just left-" The screeching of the chair cut Sophie off. The boy had already pulled up a chair and sat down, resting his elbow on the table and leaning towards Biana.
"So, how's your day been?"
"It was fine." Biana replied, her eyes still locked on Sophie's. She glanced nervously at the boy. "Can you leave?" She asked.
"But I want to talk to you more!" The boy protested. "Where do you go to college?"
"I don't want to tell you." Biana said.
"Oh. I'm going to the local one. If you are going there, maybe I'll see you." The boy was clearly trying to flirt with Biana (and failing horribly) "Can I maybe have your number?" and Sophie was done.
"Hey, do you mind not attempting to flirt with my girlfriend?" Sophie phrased it like a question, but it wasn't.
"Girlfriend? You two are-"
"Dating? Yes." Biana said.
"Can I still get your number?" The boy asked. Biana frowned.
"What do you not get about "we're dating?"" Biana asked. "It means I'm not interested."
"You can be dating someone and we can still be friends." The boy said. "There's no rule against that."
"You seem to have forgotten my feelings. I don't want to be friends with you. Please leave." Biana told him. The boy sighed.
"I hope I see you again." He said, standing and walking away. Biana gave Sophie an exasperated look.
"He is insufferable. God, men are creepy. I said I wasn't interested and he still didn't give up." Biana exhaled.
"I'm sorry that happened." Sophie said, reaching a hand across their table and taking Biana's hand.
"Yeah. But thanks for telling him off. He would have kept being creepy if I had just kept telling him to leave." Biana twined their fingers together. "Guys are weird."
"No shit." Sophie said, and Biana cracked a smile. She took a sip of her drink. "Well… I guess we should continue asking weird questions for our first date?" Biana nodded.
"Favorite animal?"
"Cats." Sophie said.
"Really? I would have thought dogs since… we have a dog."
"Don't get me wrong, I love dogs. But I had a cat named Marty growing up and he was my best friend in the world. I didn't want to get another cat after he died because I was so sad. I didn't even want another pet." Sophie sighed, trying to keep memories of Marty out of her mind.
"What changed? Why did you get Ash?"
"I used to volunteer at a shelter and when they brought Ash in… I just knew I had to adopt her. Look where it's gotten me." Sophie added sarcastically. More seriously, she said, "I would have never met you if I didn't have Ash since the whole reason I was out that morning was to give her a walk."
"Well then. I guess we have Ash to thank." Biana replied, grinning.
"What about you? What's your favorite animal?"
"I LOVE horses. When I was little, I always wanted a horse. I took some lessons when I was about ten up until I was about fourteen when I started high school. They were fun. I fell off three times, which is pretty bad. I guess you usually fall off more? I always told people when I fell off because it made me seem cool."
"Hmm… maybe someday your dream of having a horse will come true." Sophie told her.
"Maybe. Uhh, how many siblings do you have?" Biana asked.
"I have two. My biological sister Amy and my adoptive sister Jolie. Amy and I were adopted when I was four and she was one, but my parents always felt like my actual parents. Jolie was awesome too. She treated us like we were her real sisters, which we were. In a way." Sophie shrugged at the end. She hesitated. "Do you have any siblings?"
"Yeah. I have an older brother, Alvar, who's an asshole. And you met Fitz, my other older brother. He's younger than Alvar. He's usually pretty cool, though he does have some anger issues. Mostly because Alvar… wasn't super nice to him growing up." Biana sighed. "My family is pretty terrible. Though I will forever cherish the look on Alden's face when you yelled at him."
Sophie felt herself smile. "That was pretty awesome. Alright, favorite book? The most important question."
"Pretty sure I already told you this, but A Dark and Hollow Star by Ashley Shuttleworth. It's the best book and there's a girl x girl couple and a boy x boy couple. There's also they/them characters and a xe/xem character later in the book. They are a really great author and I CAN'T wait to read their next book."
"Now that you say that, I do remember you telling me. My favorite is Crown of Feathers. I guess we both like fantasy novels."
"I guess so." Biana smiled and their eyes met. They didn't say anything for a while, just stared at each other. Sophie cleared her throat.
"What other questions are there?" She asked.
"How many stuffed animals did you have growing up?" Biana asked. "I had over two hundred."
"I had three hundred twelve." Sophie said, smirking. "Including Ella." Biana had met Ella a while back, and she had introduced her to Lady Sassyfur. (their stuffed animals were now dating as well)
"You beat me. But that needs to change. You know what to get me for my next birthday." Biana told her. Biana's birthday was in August, just a few months away.
"I have many ideas for you." Sophie told her.
"Like what?"
"I'm not telling you." Sophie replied. "That defeats the whole purpose of it being a surprise."
"Ugh fine." Biana said, though Sophie could tell that she wasn't actually irritated. They drank the rest of their drinks in a conversation about their favorite subjects in school, friends they'd had, teachers, etc.
Sophie stood up when it was time to go and offered Biana her hand. Biana took it and stood up as well, kissing Sophie's cheek. They left the coffee shop and returned to the apartment, letting Ash out of her crate. The happy dog tackled Biana and licked her face while Sophie watched, laughing and not helping her girlfriend.
"Ash loves you." She said to Biana.
"Well, Ash, I love you too."
Aaaaaand Sophie wasn't sure if they were still talking about the dog. Sophie helped her up off the floor now, gently pushing Ash off her. Biana stumbled to her feet, giving Ash a stroke on the head before flopping on the couch to watch some She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. (It was their favorite show. They'd already watched it five times.)
Sophie sat next to her and Biana leaned on her. Sophie wrapped her arm around her girlfriend's shoulders and kissed her cheek. Biana smiled and glanced at Sophie. Their eyes met and they stared at each other for longer than normal. Then Biana leaned up and kissed Sophie's lips. Sophie kissed her back, and then Biana pulled back and resettled into her original position, her head against Sophie's shoulder. Kissing Biana never got old.
Sophie looked at the tv screen, smiling. Her life was pretty much perfect now.
