I apologize that it has taken me so long to update, life and other stories got in the way. But I do plan to update this on a more regular basis now.
Hyperion Hotel
Night
In the kitchen, Barry was finishing his sandwich when Buffy and Angel walked in.
"How's Cordy?" Gunn asked almost immediately.
"The same," Angel said glumly.
Gunn nodded, clearly brought down. Barry didn't know who this Cordelia was, but she clearly meant a great deal to everyone here.
"So, you must be Barry," Angel said as he turned to Barry.
"And I assume you're Angel," Barry said as he put the remainder of his sandwich down and got up, holding his hand out to Angel. "It's nice to meet you."
"You to," Angel said as they shook hands. "I hear you're in a bit of a bind."
"Yeah, I'm not exactly from around here. I think I'm from another world," Barry said, still finding it strange to hear those words. "And I don't know how to get home."
"Since you guys are more experienced in this area, I was hoping you could help Barry find his way home," Buffy explained as Angel frowned, thinking.
"As a matter of fact, I think I have an idea," Angel said after a moment.
Wolfram and Hart
Later
As the elevator doors opened, Barry looked around. It seemed…like an ordinary law firm, he mused as he and Angel walked inside. Lawyers were walking around, going about their duties. Barry could almost imagine that this was an ordinary law firm. And then Barry saw what looked like a monster with green skin, horns, and demonic red eyes.
"It's okay, that's Lorne. He's a friend," Angel said as he saw the look on Barry's face. "You and he actually have something in common."
"And what's that?" Barry asked wearily.
"He's not from this world either. Lorne is actually from a world called Pylea. You don't want to end up there, trust me," Angel assured him as he clapped Barry on the shoulder.
Barry nodded slowly. Buffy had warned him this was an evil law firm. So far, Barry wasn't sure what to think. But he was willing to do anything to get back home. If Wolfram and Hart could help him do it, he was game.
"Angel."
At the sound of the British voice, Barry was broken out of his thoughts. A dark haired man with a slight beard approached him and Angel. He was around Oliver's age Barry guessed, maybe a little older.
"Wesley," Angel greeted before turning to Barry. "Barry, this is Wesley Wyndam-Pryce, he works with me. Wesley, this is Barry Allen."
"The one you told me about the phone," Wesley noted as he held a hand out to Barry. "It's nice to meet you Barry."
"You to," Barry said politely as he shook Wesley's hand.
"Barry is trying to find his way home. See if they know anything," Angel said and Wesley nodded.
"Barry, please come with me," Wesley requested.
Wearily, Barry followed Wesley. Wesley led him up some stair and down a hallway. It was a few minutes until they reached an elevator. Wesley pressed the button and the doors opened. As he and Wesley entered the elevator, Barry was wondering why Angel hadn't just brought him there immediately if they were going to use the elevator. As the door closed behind him, above the buttons, a large, white button suddenly appeared. Barry stared, wondering what that was when Wesley pushed it.
There was a bright flash of light and, suddenly, Barry and Wesley were no longer in the elevator. Instead, they stood in a big, white room. And Barry didn't mean white as in white paint, it was literally white. There was a white floor and a seemingly endless void.
"Welcome to the white room Barry," Wesley said as Barry took it all in.
"Okay…and what are we doing here?" Barry asked confused.
"Well, I imagine you're waiting for me."
Barry was startled as a dark haired woman appeared out of nowhere. She had a smile on her face but it didn't offer Barry any comfort. It just had him more on edge.
"Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Lilah Morgan. I'm temporary liaison of the Senior Partners," Lilah introduced herself.
"Senior Partners," Barry repeated wearily.
"They run the other Wolfram and Hart branches," Wesley said gently.
"That's the simplified version but he's right. Angel was probably hoping that they could help you get home. Sorry to say they can't. Or rather, they won't," Lilah explained.
"Lilah-" Wesley started.
"Oh calm down Wesley, it's nothing like that," Lilah said, her lips forming an amused smirk. "Have Lorne listen to him sing. Then you'll understand."
There was another flash of light and suddenly, Barry and Wesley were back in the elevator.
"I have to sing?" Barry asked confused.
"Lorne is an empath demon. He can tell someone's destiny by listening to them sing," Wesley explained, his brows narrowed as he thought deeply.
"So how does this work exactly?" Barry asked as he stood in Angel's office with Angel, Wesley, and Lorne.
"Just sing for me. Anything you want," Lorne said simply.
Barry looked at Angel and Wesley incredulous but they just nodded. Barry sighed and, hoping this wasn't some kind of bad joke, began to sing.
"The sun goes down, the stars come out
And all that counts is here and now
My universe will never be the same
I'm glad you came (Came, came, came)
You cast a spell on me, spell on me
You hit me like the sky fell on me, fell on me
And I decided you look well on me, well on me
So let's go somewhere no one else can see, you and me
Turn the lights out now
Now I'll take you by the hand
Hand you another drink
Drink it if you can
Can you spend a little time?
Time is slipping away
Away from us, so stay
Stay with me, I can make
Make you glad you came."
"Okay, that's enough," Lorne said, sounding strained.
Barry abruptly stopped singing as he, Angel and Wesley took a good look at Lorne. He looked like he needed to sit down. Lorne's skin tone had also lightened a few shades of green. Barry wasn't sure about Lorne's physiology, but he didn't look good.
"Lorne, are you okay?" Angel asked as he placed a hand on his friend's shoulder.
"Yeah, yeah I'm good Angelcakes. Just been a while since I've seen a destiny so…" Lorne trailed off, which didn't inspire warm feelings in Barry.
"Lorne, what did you see?" Wesley asked.
"Well, I know why the Senior Partners don't wanna help him get home. Even they aren't stupid enough to mess around with this. He plays a part in the Apocalypse, the one the Shanshu prophecy talks about," Lorne explained.
While this meant nothing to Barry, it clearly meant something to Angel and Wesley. Both looked stunned by the news, Wesley side eying Barry like he was a fascinating creature he had never seen before.
"I'm sorry, someone want to fill me in?" Barry asked confused.
"There is a prophecy that talks about an apocalypse. The end of days as it were. It's all very vague and hard to translate. The only thing certain is that a vampire with a soul will be there to face it," Wesley said with a pointed look at Angel.
"…and you think I'm part of this prophecy?" Barry asked incredulously.
"I saw it kid. Didn't see much, don't know what role you'll play, but you will have a role to play," Lorne said tiredly.
"And if I don't want to?" Barry asked irritated.
"You can't fight destiny. Just ask Buffy, she spent a long time trying to fight hers until she couldn't anymore. We like to believe we have control over our lives. The truth is that there are forces at work, always guiding us, always pulling us in certain directions. Whether you like it or not Barry, you are part of this prophecy now," Angel told him as he turned away, deep in thought.
"I did see something else," Lorne said and Barry turned back to him. "The Slayers, stick with them for now. They'll help you find you way in this world."
Out of frustration, Barry turned and stormed out of Angel's office. Rationally, he knew that they were more experienced at this kind of thing and were just trying to help. But he didn't want to be part of some stupid prophecy, he just wanted to home and make sure his friends were okay. But it seemed that wouldn't be happening anytime soon.
Because whether he believed in this prophecy or not, Barry was stuck here with no way back home. He just had to hope he could someday find a way back.
Hope you all liked the Lilah cameo. Since Eve wasn't known to Angel until 5x01, I figured this was a good spot to use her.
The song Barry sang was Glad You Came by The Wanted. Since Grant Gustin sang it on Glee, I thought it would be a funny nod.
So, the first four chapters have mostly been Barry trying to get out of his situation. But now that he knows he's kind of stuck here, he'll be coming to grips with his new reality over the next few chapters and the plot will finally start moving.
