Before the first Thor. Loki around 18 (or whatever the Asgard equivalent) and Thor around 20.

Thor smiled slightly as he walked into their room. He and Loki still shared a room. Kind of. They had separate bedrooms but they shared a common room and a bathroom. Their bedrooms were huge as was the common room. Thor yawned as he walked inside of the dimly lit room. He undid the button on his cape, hanging it on the coat rack, putting his hammer down on table. He pulled his armored chest piece up and over his head reaching for a more comfortable t-shirt.

"How'd it go?" Thor heard a familiar voice behind him. Thor spun around to see Loki lying on his stomach on the couch. He was wearing his bath robe and a pair of flannel pants. It was winter time on Asgard. It didn't get super cold, but it was noticeable.

"Oh, it was fine. When I got back, Odin talked my ears off. I honestly don't know if they're still attached," Thor said as he flopped down on the couch at his brother's feet. Thor had been out on a hunting mission with Sif. Loki sat up, leaning against the arm of the couch, his long black hair spreading underneath his head like a halo. Thor smiled as he brushed his own long hair out of his face. He and his brother were complete opposites. Thor liked bright colors and attention, where as Loki preferred darker colors and hiding in the shadows. Loki liked reading and had skipped several grades in school. He had already graduated from college with a double major and had the diploma hung proudly in his bedroom. He was the only one in the family who had any college credits, though Odin didn't seem too excited. Thor had been a slow learner and had actually learned the bits and pieces of school he had understood from Loki, and had skipped college. The best class Thor had ever taken was Groot, which was an elective in high school, and Loki's favorite class had been the arts of astrophysics and science.

"Catch anything good?" Loki asked. There had been signs of a large piece of game around, and Thor and Sif had been on its tail for weeks. Thor shook his head.

"We set traps, though. I don't care if we eat it, I just want to catch the damn thing!" Thor cried. Loki chuckled slightly and rolled his eyes.

"Well, I learned a new spell," Loki said, twisting his hair in between his fingers.

"Ooo, what is it?" Thor asked excitedly. Loki smiled and snapped his fingers. Thor was turned into a frog. It was quite an odd feeling. His body was so tiny. He felt stuffed in his small body. He looked up to Loki, who was sitting with his head resting against his hand, smirking at the frog. Thor tried to say something, but it came out as a croak. Loki laughed out loud. Thor rambled on croaking the entire time.

"I like you better as a frog," Loki said. Thor shot his brother a pleading look.

"Okay fine," Loki said, and he snapped his fingers twice. Thor was back to his full size as an Asgardian. Thor was quite relieved to feel like himself again.

"Don't you ever do that again," Thor snapped. Loki smirked in that way he had, showing all his teeth in a way that sent shivers down one's spine. Loki traced his finger in the air, and his hair brush was in his hand. He ran the brush through his slightly damp hair. He had just finished showering before Thor came in. They sat in silence for a long time, and then Thor glanced at the clock.

"It's after midnight, we should get to sleep," Thor said. Loki nodded in agreement. Sure, he had just turned his brother into a frog, but he enjoyed when he and Thor would share moments like this. When they would sit on the couch, just talking or really just being around the other. He almost liked the fact they shared a room since it forced them to hang out together.

"Want me to make breakfast tomorrow?" Loki asked. It was more of 'please let me cook your food tastes terrible' than an offer, though. Thor smiled.

"Yeah, maybe you could teach me a thing or two" Thor said as he stood, stretching, as Loki stood up beside him.

"I always can," Loki said. Thor smirked back at the younger god.

"'Night," Thor said. Loki nodded in response, and they walked to their separate doors. Thor stopped as he turned the knob.

"Brother?" he called. Loki spun on his heel to face Thor.

"Yeah?" Loki replied warily.

"Have I ever told you I love you?" Thor asked. Loki was taken aback but quickly regained his composure, only to lose it a moment later as tears filled his eyes. Thor crossed the room quickly looking worried at the sight of his brother's now wet eyes. Loki had never been one to cry, so the sight of a tear worried Thor.

"Did I say something wrong? I'm sorry if I offended you," Thor said quickly looking worried. Loki shook his head, wiping his face with his sleeve.

"No one's ever told me they...that they loved me before," Loki whispered his voice breaking. Thor looked confused.

"Not even from Father?" he asked. Loki shook his head, not trusting his voice. Thor's eyes widened slightly as he thought back on it. Odin told Thor how proud of him he was and how much he loved him all the time, but never once to Loki.

"I do truly love you," Thor said gently, taking Loki's hands in his. Loki blushed slightly being seen so weak was a failure to him. Thor was quiet for a long time looking into Loki's eyes before he pulled his close, wrapping his arms around his brother. Loki was surprised. He had never been one for physical affection, but then again he had never been offered very much. He leaned into Thor's deep embrace, closing his eyes against the soft fabric of Thor's shirt. He somehow felt no weakness being so vulnerable around Thor. Loki felt Thor's fingers gently stroking his hair. Loki felt hot tears rolling down his face, and Thor's shirt was making it hard to wipe them away. Thor pushed him away slightly, and the though crossed his mind that Thor didn't like him anymore because of how weak he was, but he shook the thought from his head at the look in his eyes. Thor opened his mouth but then closed it once more and settled for lightly kissing Loki's forehead. That night Loki slept better then he had in months.

Ten years later, at Thor's coronation

"Another," Thor cried shattering the wine glass he had been carrying as he finished drinking it. Thor walked forward and saw his brother come out from behind a curtain. Both were wearing their battle armor, Loki's outfit complete with his helmet that had the horns that he had harvested from a large animal on one of their hunting missions. The two brothers stood in an awkward silence. And then a servant came holding the wine Thor had requested. Thor reached for it. And then the servant screamed. Thor looked to Loki who was smirking in that way he had as snakes crawled from the glass.

"Loki, that was a waste of good wine," Thor complained. Loki smiled.

"Just a bit of fun, brother," Loki said as he waved his hand, and the snakes turned to dust. The servant took the platter and ran away. Loki smirked once again.

"Nervous, brother?" Loki teased. Thor laughed aloud.

"Have you ever known me to be nervous?" Thor asked.

"There was that one time in Nornheim—" Thor cut Loki off.

"That wasn't nerves, brother; that was the rage of battle. Otherwise, how would I have busted through over a hundred soldiers while carrying you on my back?" Thor asked. Loki's brow furrowed.

"As I remember, I was the one who went through the soldiers carrying your unconscious body on my back," Loki replied. Thor laughed aloud again. There was a silence. Another servant brought Thor his helmet. Thor took it. Loki smirked.

"Oh...nice feathers," he teased. Thor smirked right back turning to face his brother.

"Do you really want to start this again?" Thor asked stepping closer to his brother. Thor was taller by a good three and a half inches, although it never intimidated his younger brother the way he wished it did.

"I was being sincere," Loki argued.

"You are incapable of—oh, whats the word for being sincere?" Thor said stomping his foot slightly.

"Sincerity, brother. This is why I have a college degree, and you don't," Loki said smiling slightly.

"Ah yes, you are incapable of sincerity," Thor said smiling. Loki smirked slightly, but then his face turned serious.

"I've been waiting for this day as long as you have, Thor. I know sometimes, both of us hate each other, but never, not once have I ever not loved you," Loki said. Thor smiled.

"Thank you, brother," Thor said. Loki smirked, his face returning to its usual devilish look.

"Now give us a kiss," Loki teased.

"Stop," Thor said, slapping his brother on the back.

Day of Frigga's death

The guards had offered to tell him, but Thor had shaken his head.

"I will tell him," he said, forcing his voice to sound strong, even though that was far from what he was right now. he was broken, heartbroken. His brother was in chains, and his mother had just been murdered. Thor walked to the prison cell to see him sitting there calmly reading a book, sipping what looked to be a glass of wine. His hair was loosely hanging down his shoulders, and he was wearing a pair of sweat pants and a t-shirt. Loki stood at the sight of Thor. He stood hands behind his back, watching the older god walk to the control panel. He pressed his hand to the scanner and the door opened. It slid shut behind him so Loki couldn't escape. Thor sat on the arm chair looking at Loki.

"After two years you come to visit me. Why? Have you come to gloat, to brag about you place as king?" Loki asked. Thor shook his head, resting it in his hands his long blond hair blowing slightly with the fan.

"I bear news," Thor said.

"Of what variety?" Loki asked his voice utter calm. Thor sighed.

"Mother has been killed," Thor said. Loki, who had been standing, crashed onto the bed, his eyes widening and then blinking repeatedly.

"When?" Loki asked, his voice shaking now. He wiped his face with his hand, forcing himself not to cry.

"This morning. She died honorably saving Jane," Thor replied.

"Jane? You mean that pitiful mortal that has stolen your heart? Mother died for a mortal?" Loki asked, anger in his voice, his nostrils flashing. Now tears were rolling down the younger man's face. Thor said nothing. Loki turned and kicked a box.

"Fuck you, Thor," he said in frustration. Thor said nothing and continued to say nothing as Loki tossed insult after insult, cursing like a mad man. Loki crashed onto the bed, crying now, not even trying to hold back. Thor walked to the bed and wrapped his arm around his brother's shoulders, pressing a kiss to his forehead. Loki leaned into Thor's touch.

"Did...she...suffer?" Loki stammered.

"No Loki, it was quick," Thor replied. Loki nodded, still barely breathing. Thor didn't know what to say, just held his brother.

"I have a plan, I know you seek revenge as much as I do and I have an option for you," Thor said. Loki pulled away smirking and wiping his face.

"You must be truly desperate to ask for my help," Loki said.

"It appears I am," Thor replied.

After Ragnarok

"If you were here I might even hug you," Thor said. He tipped his head back, drinking whisky in the shot glass, wincing slightly from the alcohol. He then tossed his glass in the air and threw it a Loki. Loki caught it, slamming it on the table.

"I'm here...brother," Loki said. Thor's eyes filled with tears as he wrapped his arms around his brother, pulling him into a bone crushing hug. Loki coughed slightly, but let Thor hug him. He deserved as much. Thor had lost his mother, his father, he had to kill his sister, and now the role of comfort was left to Loki. And for Thor, he was willing to fill it. Thor cried against his shoulder just as he had done to Thor all those years ago. Loki gently rubbed his back and murmured things under his breath about how much he loved him.

"I love you brother," Thor whispered.

"I love you too, brother," Loki replied. Thor's heart melted at the sound of the name brother, and he held Loki tighter.
