Jay spent the day in bed taking a few more sips of liquor from time to time, but quite frequently.
It was 3 pm when he received the phone call from his brother.
He was hesitant about answering the call or not, but since it might be one of the last times they heard he decided it was better.
- Hey little brother surely you are working, disturbance? Will asked
- Hey, - he said wearily, - no, don't bother me.
- Look, I must have left my dress shirt at your house, I need it because tomorrow there will be a reception at Mrs Goodwin's. Could I pick it up in the evening after my shift? Or in case you could go to the hospital tomorrow before going to work if you prefer. the doctor told him
- Come by tonight, I should finish soon - Jay lied.
- ok okay. I'll notify you as soon as I finish.
The phone call had ended, he had lied to his brother. She didn't want to explain to him.
He was lost in thought again when the phone rang again.
- Halstead - he replied wearily and a little annoyed.
- Hey little brother, is everything okay? - said the other on the phone
- Will? - he was amazed to hear it again. He hadn't paused to read the name on the display before answering.
- Sure! And who else? My grandmother? replied the doctor.
- What did you forget? Jay said even more annoyed.
If the previous call had put a flea in Will's ear, enough to call him back after a very short time, the fact that he hadn't responded with a joke to his made him worry even more.
- Nothing, nothing, don't worry. I wanted to know if everything was ok. - Said the doctor.
The detective could have talked to his brother, told him what was going on, but he didn't.
- Sorry - he said softly - is that I am overwhelmed by paperwork and this rate will never finish. he lied once again.
- I'm sorry if I bothered you. It's just that you seemed weird to me on the phone earlier and I wanted to ask you if there is something wrong. - said Will feeling a little guilty for interrupting his brother again.
Maybe it was too much, but he always cared so much for his little brother. He had always been like that he couldn't do anything about it.
- Quiet, sorry me. I'm fine, stay calm - Jay replies sadly.
- Are you sure? asked the doctor again
- Be calm. But now I have to go back to work - answered the detective.
- okay, good job then - said Will - see you tonight.
And again the call ended even though there was something wrong in old Halstead's mind. luckily he would see him in the evening and he would have removed the doubt.
