Chapter 2: Homecoming Part II

This Dimension/Several hours later

I laid on my bed trying to forget, cut myself off from the world; missed calls and unread text from Vince and Alex flooded my phone. On the news were reports of strange weather occurrences and mass electrical surges; soon after that, the lights and electronics in my own house flickered. I turned off the TV and buried my head in my pillow trying to force myself to sleep. When I finally was able to, I was once again haunted by the memories of the Digidestined. I woke up in the middle of the night and then began to be haunted by the thought of what they would think of what I have become. The next morning, I somehow made it to school, but it was obvious to everyone around me that I was not having it. All my friends around me were talking about the news and how most of their houses experienced the surge. I decided to take a walk and ended up on the bridge over the headwaters by our school. I stood there wondering trying to reassure myself that I had made the right decision. Suddenly, I heard a loud siren blasting in the distance. A voice over came over the PA, "Active shooters on campus! Please follow safety procedures until all clear!" I starting running to one end of the bridge and saw people running and campus police struggling to get people clear. Then I saw it, a fog was hovering over the parking lot but it looked as if it was chasing after a group of students.

"Hey," I yelled. The fog seemed to stop, "Yeah, over here," I yelled without thinking. The cog made its way towards me. I tried to turn around but all of the sudden there was another fog coming towards the other side of the bridge. I seconds I was completely surrounded by the fog. Then out of it came a creature I had never seen before. It looked like a human sized dinosaur in a gray hazmat suit carrying a gun; I could only assume it was a Troopmon. From behind him, 2 more came out of the fog. Behind me, another 3.

I looked at both groups, "Crap."

"That was a foolish choice boy," a Troopmon said manically.

"What are you Troopmon doing here," I yelled back.

"None of your business boy," he replied angrily.

"I thought these humans didn't know about Digimon," another Troopmon commented, "could he be one of them?"

The first Troopmon pointed his gun at me, "Are YOU a Digidestined!?"

I snapped, "What do you want with the Digidestined!?"

"Our masters have ordered them destroyed," he replied, "so that nothing will stand in their way!"

Gennai's House

Cody's POV

The others and I looked on in horror at what was happening to me knowing there was nothing we could.

"Damn," Davis said cringing, "I hate not being able to do anything."

"Hopefully Vince and Alex can get there in time," Yolei said.

"They may not have too," Gennai said smiling.

"What do you mean," Ken asked confused

Gennai gestured the wall. We turned around to see T.K.'s staff glowing; then, instantly, it vanished.

"R.J.," I said happily.

R.J.'s POV

Thinking of Vince and Alex, and those Digidestined not yet found, being destroyed like T.K. and the others, I realized something in that moment; I was not going to let anyone else be destroyed by the Demon Lords as long as I could do something about it, "No," I said firmly, "you aren't destroying anyone today."

"Who's going to stop us," the second Troopmon said.

Suddenly my hand began to glow with the crest of Hope. As the light got brighter I could feel something in my hand; I tightened my grip and T.K.'s spear appeared next to me, then the light faded.

"He IS a Digidestined," a Troopmon said in fear.

I smirk at the comment, "It's been a long time since I've said this, but you yes…I am a Digidestined!"

"Destroy him," the first Troopmon yelled.

Two Troopmon started to fire at me, and even though I was rusty, I was ready. I started to twirl my spear fast enough to block their bullets; they moved in closer. When the first one got into range I used his momentum to pick him up between the blades of the spear and threw him off the bridge; the second one was perfectly in range so I hit him in the gut with the end of the spear, tripped him with the blade end, twirled the spear above my head and stabbed him before he could get up. The Troopmon dissolved into data and disappeared. The other Troopmon all took a step back in fear, but the first Troopmon wasn't happy, "don't let him escape," he yelled. He and the other 3 Troopmon pointed their gunes ready to fire. Before they could, a clock figure came up behind 2 of them and lifted them up into the air with Matt's claws and they instantly became data. The first Troopmon made a last mad dash towards me, but I stopped him with the tip of my spear at his next and he knelt in defeat. The hooded figures approached me and revealed themselves as Vince and Alex.

"You okay bro," Vince asked.

I smiled, "A bit out of practice, but it's coming back."

Alex giggled, "Don't lie; you kept training even after you 'quit.'" I nodded in admittance.

"How'd you get T.K.'s spear," Vince asked.

"I guess I just 'called' it," I said shrugging.

"Man I wish I would've known that we could call them yesterday; you know how hard it was sneaking these claws around? Then I had to run to my car to get them when this happened," Vince complained.

"Vince," Alex caught his attention, "the Digivice?"

"Oh yeah," Vince reached into his sash and pulled out a strange looking Digivice; it looked a little like the original Digivice put it was long and slim, like a smartphone. The antenna was gone and the looks of it, it was meant to be held like a phone with the single button on the bottom and a strange lip on top, "You're probably gonna need this."

"What is it," I asked as I took it from him.

"Cody called it a D-Phone," Alex answered as I examined it, "it's our model Digivice. Cody figured you might have a change of heart, so he gave it to us."

"Of course he did," I said with a smirk.

"Dude, press the button," Vince requested enthusiastically.

I looked at the Digivice and did as Vince said. A scanning device sudden came out of the lip on top and scanned me. When it was done, my body began to glow and when the light faded I was standing in the same outfit as the others, they had a very assassin's creed feel to them, "What the heel just happened."

"Well that little scanner just confirmed you were you; apparently, it has multiple functions. And these clothes are like a battle armor to protect us and our identities," Vince explained, "our D-Phones are how we call on it."

"Guys," Alex interjected, "we're not done." She pointed down at the Troopmon I still had pinned.

"How many of you came," I asked lifting his head with my spear.

"Doesn't matter," he responded, "more will come. And soon…very soon…THEY will come," he laughed manically.

Before we could ask him anything else, we heard screaming in the distance. The Troopmon jumped back when we looked away, he suddenly disappeared and the fog around us faded away.

"How the hell did he do that," Vince asked looking around confused.

"We'll worry about that later," I replied turning to the direction of the screams, "we have other things to take care of first." I started to run towards the end of the bridge when all of the sudden I felt myself moving faster then expected and then I was in front of another fog. It was right in front of the student center, from what I could figure they were probably trying to break down the door. Vince and Alex appeared behind me not a second later.

"We can ninja streak," Vince said enthusiastically under his hood, "siiiiiiiiiiiiiiccccckkk!"

"Focus Vince," Alex said removing her hood, "what do think R.J.?"

"I saw 3 come out of each piece of fog earlier, but this one looks bigger so let's assume more," I replied.

"He's back," Vince chuckled, "god, I missed you."

"You need to get out of this area now," we turned to see a campus officer standing 10 yards away.

"We're here to help," I yelled back. I looked at Vince and Alex and they both nodded back. We ran into the fog once more.

Gennai's House

Cody's POV

Gennai, the rest of the Digidestined and I watched in amazement at how well the new Digidestined were dealing with the Troopmon.

"So much for them not keeping up with their training," Ken said to Davis, "these Troopmon are said to be champion level."

"I never said they didn't, I just said we couldn't be sure if they did;" Davis replied slightly annoyed, "I have to admit, it is impressive though."

"It's definitely nice to see the new Digidestined in action," I added.

R.J.'s POV

There were a couple of more Troopmon in this fog but we still took them down easy by catching them by surprise. When they were all deleted. The fog dissolved and students inside the building were taking videos and photos of us.

"I can get use to this," Vince whispered..

"Well don't get too use to it;" Alex replied, "Remember, we're not allowed to tell anybody who we are."

"I'm telling everybody," Vince said jokingly.

Just then my D-Phone began to beep as if it was trying to get my attention; I figured it was Gennai and the Digidestined trying to contact us.

"Guys, we need to go," I said to the others.

"Right," Alex responded noticing my D-Phone.

"Ah man," Vince said slightly disappointed.

Without hesitation we ninja streaked away from the building and to the neighboring park; far away from anybody.

"What is it," Alex asked removing her hood

"I don't know," I said after removing my own, "it just started beeping. Maybe if I…" I touched the screen on my D-Phone and suddenly a small hologram of Gennai appeared, "Well that did it."

"Well done Digidestined," Gennai started, "I need you to come to my house immediately; your D-Phones will act as your access to the Digi-Port from now on."

"Right away Gennai," I replied. With that the hologram disappeared.

"Okay we need a computer," I pointed out.

"I got my tablet right here," Alex said going through her bag.

"Wait, where in the hell did you keep that," Vince asked confused pointing at her bag.

"Were you even listening," Alex said slightly annoyed, "According to Gennai, when we activate our "armor," our regular clothes are digitized and stored in the D-phone; small items, like backpacks or purses, can also be stored," Alex explained.

"Makes about as much sense as everything else," I replied. As Alex finished preparing the tablet, I looked down at my new Digivice and began to think about T.K. and the others; for years I had done everything I could to ignore their memory, and now it would be my driving force in my fight against evil. "I won't let you down," I whispered to myself.

"Okay it's ready," Alex placed her tablet up against a tree and we all pointed our D-Phones at the screen, "Digi-Port, open!"
