Chapter 3:
Neo looked at the enemy in front of her, his name was Adam Taurus if she remembered correctly. She almost felt honoured by the fact that the leader of the white fang had come to fight her. Almost.
"Well then, you are that traitor Romans little girl right? I knew we shouldn't have worked with him. He's the worst kind of human. Corrupt and evil." The word human was said with so much disgust that it was pretty much drenched with toxins. Corrupt and evil looked like nothing compared to it.
Neo just responded with a casual shrug and was rewarded with a gaze of insane hatred and anger. She was already completely certain it was going to be a fun little match. She just couldn't wait to crush this one's spirit under her heels. Then perhaps she could go and eat some ice cream. She really didn't want to stick around in this old, damp warehouse for long.
"You really don't care do you?! You have killed so many brave faunus, and yet you act so casual! What do you have to say for yourself!" Adam was practically raging at this point. Neo just silently giggled, he looked so funny while he was angry.
In a fury Adam drew his sword and charged at Neo. He was fast, she'd give him that, but Neo was so much faster. As he approached Neo sidestepped, following it up with a kick towards his face. It was blocked by his Aura but still quite effective. When Adam tried countering with a serious blow neo just sidestepped again. This time she followed up with a quick dash backwards, well out of Adams reach. Giving Neo an excellent opportunity to taunt her opponent.
With that done Neo drew the blade on the tip of her umbrella. Adam made a mad dash towards her, throwing himself towards her with a powerful strike. She blocked his first strike, jumped to the side from the next one, jumped over him when he did his third slice and sent him flying into the wall. Adam was practically the avatar of rage at this point. Neo just did a "Whoopsie" expression, earning a growl from Adam.
Neo just couldn't help herself, the Faunus was just so funny when he was angry.
Adam stood up once again, charged again. In his anger he resorted to basic strategies and he was punished by it. Neo dodged, sliced, kicked and dodged some more until Adam looked absolutely exhausted. Then she went on an offensive of her own, striking at exposed points. Working on completely crippling his defence. Slowly but surely adam was falling apart, and he still hadn't been able to land a single blow.
Neo did find his efforts amusing, pathetic as they were. It was always fun to crush someone's spirit. No matter how pathetic that person was. Adam truly didn't stand a chance. Neo's fighting style was completely dominant against him. It was fun to see him struggle tough.
Adam attempted another assault, eyes blazing with fury. Neo just decided to dodge this time. Adam threw blow after blow but none connected. Neo continued jumping around the room, Adam being kept at the perfect distance. That was until a ball of fire connected with Neos back.
Neo flew into a corner. The power from the fireball was enough to send her face right into a wall. Neo gulped, Romans former employer, CInder Fall had arrived.
Adam grinned as he jumped at Neo, while Cinder Fall sent a tempest of flames against her. Neo dodged the fire, then she proceeded to strike at Adam. She parried his strike as she closed the distance, attempting a kick in the gut. However Neos plan was interrupted by another ball of fire, forcing her to back off.
This was a fight Neo knew she couldn't win. Adam was easy pickings, but Cinder was on another level. Faced with such odds Neo only had one option. One day she might be able to kick cinders but, but that day was far, far away. So in the end Neo opted for a very brave retreat.
.
Roman stood with the rest of the Beacon staff. They were supposed to look over the entrance exam in a few hours. Roman had no clue what that meant at all, but the headmaster had assured him it would be an easy job. He truly hoped it would be.
He wasn't quite sure whether or not his disguise was working. Seeing as Red was able to see through it so easily he was quite surprised that none of the beacon staff had managed to do it. Then again Goodwitch never seemed to take her eyes off him, so perhaps she was suspecting something? He really couldn't tell.
Ozpin was nowhere to be seen, perhaps he would come at the last second. Fashionably late perhaps? It wouldn't surprise Roman in the slightest. No damage done anyhow, no matter how boring this might be it was still a Ruby free zone and that counted a lot.
There was however something within the room that Roman might actually dislike more than little Red. Namely professor Port. Since the second Roman stepped into the room not Port had not given him a break. The man was an insanely bad storyteller, constantly going off track and giving unnecessary information. It took port 20 minutes to tell Roman about where the coffee machine was, and when he did finish Roman had forgotten why he had even asked, if he even asked in the first place. Roman actually wondered if the professor was intentionally torturing him. He supposed he might deserve it. No, scratch that one out, no one deserved this. Not even Cinder.
It was like a heaven sent gift when Ozpin finally walked into the room, coffee cup in hand like always. The headmaster made his way to a chair and sat down. For a while no one said a word, all that was heard was Ozpin sipping from that cup of his.
Then finally the headmaster spoke.
"Welcome back to a new year of annoying students, worried parents, and grading!" Ozpin said with a slight smile on his face.
Not so surprisingly no one else found it funny. Nevertheless Ozpin continued.
"As you all might have noticed we have a new face with us. Allow me to introduce Roman Candle." Ozpin pointed towards roman as he said it.
All roman Roman was a small wave as the stare he got from Goodwitch was enough to kill a fully grown man. In all honesty that woman was scarier than Neo, and roman had thought that to be impossible before today.
Ozpin looked like he hadn't even noticed Goodwitchs hostility and just continued on.
"Now then, as most of us know it is time for the entrance exams. This is of course to test the capabilities of the students who wish to study here." Everyone seemed to be following so far, so Ozpin took another sip and continued.
"This whole process is quite the legal hurdle, there are quite a few civilians who simply cannot understand the reasoning behind it. This puts Beacon in a weird spot, as we need to make sure the test feels real, while we also cannot put our students into harsh situations."
Roman could understand the reasoning behind it, even though what he had snapped up about the Beacon entrance exams didn't really sound like harmless situations.
"Usually we attempt to limit intervention in the exam, and seeing as most teachers are busy we can't exactly have one stationed if things go wrong. This usually limits the obstacles that can be put in without incurring the wrath of the authorities" Ozpin continued on, still sipping from his cup.
"But now we have a perfect person to oversee the entrance exams, this will be quite the stressful position but I am completely sure it'll be manageable"
Ozpin did not look like he thought it'd be manageable, it looked more like he was going to burst out into giggles. Roman really didn't like where all this was going, somehow he had a feeling this was about him.
"I do believe that Mr. Candle will be a perfect man for the job. After all he does have quite amazing merits." Three things happened when Ozpin had said this
Upon hearing it Roman felt incredibly worried.
Upon hearing this Goodwitch looked even more scary, if that was even possible.
After saying it Ozpin took another sip from his coffee.
"Well then, I suppose you should all get your things in order. There are classes to prepare after all." Ozpin looked pretty much finished as he said it.
As the headmaster rose and turned around, casually strolling out the door one could hear a slight chuckle. He did take another sip of coffee before he disappeared from sight. Leaving a confused Roman, an angry Goodwitch and a Peter Port who was just going to tell an old tale about that time he caught a nevermore with his bare hands.
Roman could do nothing but sit down and hope it would all be over soon. Perhaps the sweet release of death could save him from Peter Port?
.
Ozpin sat in his office, a cup resting in his hand. It wasn't the nicest office, but there was plenty of space at least. He really should consider filling the place up with coffee machines. That really would solve so many problems.
Glynda wasn't very happy about Ozpin's decision to put Torchwick in charge of student safety, Torchwick probably wasn't all too keen on it either but it was all for a good cause. It would be a good chance for Torchwick to prove his earnest intentions. It really was a gamble that the headmaster was willing to take.
Ozpin really did hope that Torchwicks intentions were true, but even if they weren't it might be good to have one of Salem's agents under watch. He wondered if the crook even knew he had been or was working for the queen of the grim. Ozpin strongly doubted it, Roman Torchwick looked more like a petty thief in over his head than someone who would have that kind of information.
Still it wouldn't hurt to keep an eye out just in case, especially due to the importance of some of this year's potential students. He wouldn't let the crook roam completely free should he try something against them.
After all factors had been accounted for Ozpin had the feeling that it was going to be an interesting year.
