It is not known how long he remained there, when he opened his eyes again you hear shouts in the office. They had all returned and were getting to work again. He got up slowly with difficulty, remained seated on the ground for a few seconds, recovered a bit and returned as if nothing was at work.
He was trying to behave as naturally as possible, but one thing was certain, something inside him was happening.
Arriving at the desk, he drank some water and after approaching the board of suspects he continued to describe the photos he had taken and which had been posted there previously.
Every word came out with difficulty. He talked and couldn't concentrate on what he was saying, however he seemed to be saying things that made sense because everyone was following him without batting an eye. But he hadn't been able to hide his condition from everyone. Hayley who was able to read her partner like an open book had been watching him since that morning and knew that something was wrong.
He had been up for ten minutes, when he felt his legs weak again, so he decided to continue talking by leaning on one of the desks near the blackboards, as if nothing had happened. But that wasn't the only problem. Jay felt like he was out of breath struggling to take deep breaths.
But he did not give up, he continued as if nothing had happened to list the suspects and the times in which they were present in the girl's house. Fortunately, it was not long before he finished his speech. Once finished he remained in the same position sitting on the desk with his arms folded listening to what Voight was saying.
- So guys, these are the visitors the girl had to deal with. I want to know who they are and what the hell they went to do at the house of a politician's daughter. -
As the sergeant spoke, Jay's eyes had started to burn, causing him to close them.
- Upton and Ruzek you will take care of the first suspect, Burgess and Atwater the second, Dawson and Halstead the last. I expect something by the end of the day. Voight concluded.
Having said this, the boss returned to the office and at that moment Antonio was already at Jay's side. Without anyone noticing he gave a blow to the leg of the detective sitting on the desk and this opened his eyes, they were red.
- Hey what's wrong? - Antonio said in a low voice so as not to be heard by the others. She knew Jay well enough to know she preferred not to make a state of affairs about his health.
- Nothing, don't worry. Everything is alright. - Detective Halstead replied.
- Jay you know you can't tell me lies. I saw you before talking, you slowed down at some point and you were mumbling the words. Then you sat down, which you never do. Not to mention closing our eyes while the boss gives us the orders. - Antonio pointed out.
- It's nothing. My legs hurt and I sat down, I was on my feet a lot today - Jay lied - my eyes burned, that's why I closed them earlier. - this was true. It was as if he had fire in his sclera.
- It shows - asked Antonio - in fact they are very red. Did something get in your eyes this morning?
- Not that I remember. Jay replied
- Wait, come with me - Detective Dawson said on his way to the locker room - sit here - he ordered him to stop on a bench in front of the lockers.
He took some eye drops he always kept with him and put it in Halstead.
- It's much better. Thank you. - Jay told him.
- Don't worry, if you need more, just ask - he said and the two went back into the room and started working.
Antonio positioned himself in front of the computer to prevent Jay from straining his already sore eyes at the screen and the latter looked through the paperwork they had filed to see if there was anything about their suspect.
Unfortunately, Jay's health was about to deteriorate.
