He got out of the taxi and held open the door for her. He looked in once she was out and the driver looked back at him. "Stay here please, I'll pay for you to drive us to my apartment and idle here."
The driver nodded and put the car into park. Toyomitsu closed the door and followed after her. She rolled her eyes at him. "We could have walked here, it wasn't that far."
He shook his head, following her as she walked closer to the bar. "You're still exhausted from everything that happened, it'll be faster and better for you if we just use the taxi."
"Fine, fine. Hang on let me," She began to peer around the building and he watched her curiously. She finally moved one of the bricks within the wall and made a noise of victory. "Ha! Got it."
She pulled out a flash of metal and waved the key at him. "There are perks of knowing the owner."
He smiled and watched as she unlocked the door and walked in. She peered around and sighed heavily. "What a mess."
He walked in after her and nodded. "Yeah, I didn't realize it had gotten this bad."
They looked around together and he took in the damage done. The stage was still standing, but half of it was crumbling and pieces of it spread across the dance floor. Shattered glass laid everywhere and he grabbed her hand, stopping her from moving. "Careful, there's glass."
She nodded and narrowed her eyes as she looked at the bar. "My purse should be under the cash register. I can probably get it if I- Hey!"
He pulled her back to the door and walked ahead, crunching the glass under his feet and moving around the counter to grab her purse and hold it up in victory. "This it?"
"Y-yeah. I could have grabbed it!" He shook his head at her and walked over.
"There was no reason for you to. Now that I have some food in me, my quirk is working so I don't get hurt as easily. Come on, which way is your apartment?"
She followed him out of the bar, turning around and sighing sadly at the mess. She locked the door and put the key and false brick back before she walked around to the back of the building. "This way, the stairs are around the back."
"You live above the bar?" He asked, handing her the purse and following.
"Yep! He heard me singing one day while I was cleaning, and we struck up a deal for me to be his live performance on most nights. I get cheaper rent, I can have a couple pets, and I get to take home any tips the customers give me." She smiled and then frowned. "That probably will be on pause now, at least until he can get the place fixed up."
She climbed up the stairs and he followed her, avoiding looking at her backside and instead focusing on the building next to them. Be a gentleman. Be a gentleman.
She stopped at the landing and pulled out a keyring from her purse. She unlocked the door and opened it. She giggled happily and the immediate meows that they both heard. "And those are my kids, come on in. It'll take me a minute to pack up everything I need."
He followed her in, closing the door behind him and looking around. Her apartment was nice, but small. A studio space that the only other door he guessed led to her bathroom. She had paintings and pictures all over, showing her smiling with different people. He saw a paper in a frame and walked over to it. "Is this your diploma?"
She nodded, walking over to where her bed lay, made with a green comforter and grey pillows. She crouched down and pulled a couple bags from under it. "Yep. My master's in Quirk History."
"Masters? I thought you said you were still going to school." He asked, looking over at her confused.
"I am for my doctoral. It's focused on Hero History, with Quirk History mixed in of course." She pulled open drawers from the tan dresser behind her bed and began packing one of the bags with items of clothing. "I'm only in my fifth year, so I have another three years after this semester."
He nodded, turning away from the degree and looking around. She's smart, and incredibly driven.
He was walking towards her kitchen area when two flashes of black and white made him jump back. "Whoa!"
She looked up from her packing and smiled. "There they are! Come to mama babies!"
She crouched down and made kissing noises. The flashes of color ran towards her and he watched. There was one that had tuxedo colored markings. The other one was mostly white with spots of black along it's legs. He smiled softly as they curled around her crouched form and rubbed against her.
"So those are your cats huh?" He asked, walking closer. She nodded and picked up the tuxedo one. Kissing it's head.
"Yep! This one's Aura and her brother is Comos." She smiled up at him as she pet the kittens. "I found them looking through the bar's garbage a couple months ago."
He leaned down and pet the mostly white one, Cosmos. He sniffed along his hand and then rubbed against it purring. "Awe, hi there little fella."
She put down the one in her hand and moved to start packing again. "They can stay here if that's easier. I can ask the owner to stop by and check on them."
"No way! I love animals. I'd love for them to stay with me." He said, picking up the two cats and sitting down fully to let them rub against his legs and chest while he pet them.
"If you're sure." He heard her mutter. He nodded without looking up.
"I am. Don't worry about it. Just pack what you all need and we can head to mine." He saw her flush lightly before she took the second bag to the kitchen and began packing up the items for her animals.
"It's a good thing they're toilet trained. I won't have to bring the cat litter with me." She murmured to herself and he blinked and watched the cats in surprise.
"You potty trained them?" She nodded, packing cans of cat food into the bag as well as a small bag of dry food.
"Yep, makes it cheaper and I don't have to deal with the cat litter smell or mess." She zipped up the bag and placed it near the door. Walking over to the desk and picking up the backpack laying there. "I'll also need to bring the stuff for my classes. I probably won't go to them, but I'll need to keep studying."
He watched as she muttered softly to herself, packing the bag to bursting with a laptop, text books, notebooks and pens and binders. She wrestled with it until it zipped up and placed it beside the other bag at the door.
"Alright, I just need to get the stuff from my bathroom and get the cats in the carrier." He looked around trying to find the carrier. He saw metal shining under the bed and turned his head as he lifted the comforter. He saw the carrier and pulled it out.
"I'll get the cats." He opened the door to the carrier and gently started putting them in. "Come on, no please don't scratch. It's okay, I promise!"
He finally got them in and closed the door. She walked out of the bathroom, arms full of body wash, shampoo and conditioner. In her hand she held toothpaste and a toothbrush. "Thanks Toyomitsu."
He nodded and stood up, gently setting the cat carrier next to the other bags at the door. She zipped up the final bag and tossed it over her shoulder. She winced as it hit against her neck and he raced over, grabbing it from her. "Hey! Be careful. You're still injured. Come on, I'll carry the bags."
She followed him, picking up her purse and settling the strap over her shoulder gently. "I can carry them, I'm not fragile."
"You are right now, you have fresh stitches that we don't want to pull on. It's fine, grab the kittens and let's head out."
She picked up the cat carrier and watched as he redid the straps on her backpack so he could fit both straps over his shoulders. He picked up the two other bags and slung one over each shoulder. She flushed under the small act of chivalry and strength.
He walked down the stairs and she paused to turn off the lights and lock the door before she followed slowly after him. He stopped at the bottom and looked up at her, watching her to make sure she didn't hurt herself. "There you go, easy does it."
Once both of her feet touched the ground he grabbed the cat carrier from her hands and turned to walk around the building. "Hey! I can carry them!"
"You look exhausted, don't worry about it. Come on. I want to get home and try to nap." She huffed unhappily as she followed him, listening to the pitiful cries from her beloved pets.
He tapped on the truck of the taxi and the driver popped it open. He handed the carrier to her and she placed it into the backseat while he put her bags into the trunk. She quickly grabbed her wallet from the pocket in the scrubs and handed the driver a few pieces of cash. She placed her finger to her lips and the driver nodded in understanding.
She carefully climbed into the backseat and Toyomitsu got back in the front seat, his legs far too long to be comfortable with her in the back. "Alright. Let's head out!"
