Chpt. 4 TPOV:
"I only have a few minutes before I need to take Mr. Grey to work, what can I help with?" I ask Gail after getting out of the shower.
"Nothing," she hugs me tightly. "I've booked a flight for later this morning so I just need to throw a few things into a bag before I head to the airport."
"Are you sure there isn't something I can do?"
"Just make sure Mr. Grey tells Andrea to call the agency today for a someone or he'll be mad when there's no breakfast ready tomorrow morning when you come back from your run."
"I'll have Andrea call, I'm sure they'll be able to have someone here first thing tomorrow."
"I'm hoping to only be gone a week, but it could be as long as two weeks."
"We'll be fine, though I'll miss you like crazy."
"I'll miss you too."
"Oh! Sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt," Ana catches us both by surprise. It's only ever been the two of us in this apartment so sharing the space is taking some getting used to. Not that I'd ever complain, because at least having Ana right here means I'm guaranteed that she's safe.
"You didn't dear," Gail assures her before walking over to her and running her hand over little Teddy's fine brown hair. "I need to get packing anyway."
"Packing?" she asks.
"Gail's sister is having emergency surgery today; she's going to fly out to help her sister and her husband with their kids for a week or two," I explain.
"I'm sorry Gail; is there anything I can help with?"
"Thank you dear, but I'm just going to throw a few things together. Jason, don't forget to talk to Andrea about calling the agency today," she says before walking into our bedroom.
"The agency?" Ana asks.
"When Gail is off for more than a weekend, Mr. Grey contracts with a temp agency who will send someone to help out," I explain.
"They're going to send someone here?" she asks her eyes wide.
"Yes, they won't live in like Gail does but they'll be here for Mr. Grey's breakfast and will probably leave just after they clean up from dinner."
"I…I think I should stay at a hotel," she says suddenly catching me completely off guard.
"What? Is something wrong Ana? If you don't feel comfortable with Gail not being here-"
"No, no it's not that Jason," she interrupts me though I'm relieved because I was starting to question if she didn't feel safe around me if Gail wasn't here. Not that I suppose I would blame her given everything she's been through, but it would still bother me if she felt she needed to stay at a hotel because Gail had to leave. "It's not you."
"Then what is it?"
"I can't….I can't risk that the person they might send will know him," her voice is barely above a whisper and she's looking everywhere but at me.
"Ana, I can assure you that anyone they send will be well vetted not only by the agency but by Mr. Grey's team-"
"You don't understand!" she snaps. "He has people everywhere! He could have someone out here, someone that will tell him that I'm out here. Or someone that knows someone that knows someone. What if this person mentions to someone in their family that a young woman with bruises on her face and a young baby are staying with her client? What if they say something-"
"Ana, they all sign non disclosure agreements. Whoever they send won't be able to tell anyone who they're working for or what goes on in this apartment including who else lives here."
"I can't Jason…I can't trust that they won't say something," she shakes her head. "If it were just about me, I could deal with it. But it's not about me, it's about Teddy. I'm all he has right now, I can't take the risk that someone might not honor their agreement."
"You're completely across the country Ana; I doubt-"
"You don't understand how powerful he is," she argues. "He knows everyone; he has his hands in everything."
"A hotel isn't going to be safe," I try pointing out.
"If I stay in the room, it'll be safe. No one will know that we're even there."
"Ana, this is the safest place for you."
"I trust you because my dad trusts you," she says after a few minutes of silence. "I trust Gail, Sawyer and Mr. Grey because you know them and you trust them. I can't trust someone that some agency sends in. I can't…I can't risk it."
"Okay, I understand," I sigh. Although I don't agree, she has a point. She doesn't know the person the agency will be sending in and neither do I. Anytime Gail has gone away they've sent a different person to Escala.
"I'll find a hotel-"
"No, Escala is the safest place for you," I interrupt quickly. I'll be damned if I'm going to let her go to a hotel when she is much safer here. "Let me think about this and see what I can come with for Mr. Grey-"
"I'll fill in for Gail," she interrupts.
"What? No."
"Why not? I can cook and clean up, probably not as good as Gail does but you said it'll only be for a week or two right?"
"Ana," I sigh shaking my head. "Your arm is still in a sling, you wince in pain whenever you move too much-"
"I'm fine," she argues quickly. "I can do this."
"He won't go for it," I know my boss; there's no way he's going to be okay with Ana cleaning and cooking for him. Not when she's hurting like she is.
"Please Jason, I'd rather stay here then at a hotel but if it's my only option I'll find a hotel. I need to keep Teddy safe; I need to make sure he can't find us."
"Who did this Ana? Give me a name so I can make sure he stays far away from you both."
"It won't matter," she argues. "Look at what he did to Kate. Did you know that he was in a meeting with over a dozen witnesses at the time of her…accident? Did you know he even had an alibi for the night before and all morning before his meeting? Don't you see…it's not him you worry about. He won't be the one coming after us; he doesn't get his hands dirty like that. He'll send someone for us, like he did…before."
"Is that what happened to you? He sent someone to do that?" I ask cautiously.
"Yes."
"Give me his name Ana; Mr. Grey is a powerful man, he has more resources than your local police did. We'll find him and whoever he has working for him, I promise you that. Just give me a name."
"Joseph…Braxton, Junior" she grits out his name.
"Joseph Braxton…why does that name sound familiar?"
"His father owns-"
"The Braves."
"Yes," she nods. "Daddy has tons of money and influence; he uses both to keep his son out of trouble."
Well that was completely unexpected; I was prepared for some no name guy, not a successful baseball team owner's son. I need to have Welch and Barney get on this right away.
"Does he travel with the team?" I ask.
"Sometimes," she says. "Kate would complain that he would go away for weeks at a time with the team; she didn't trust him when he was gone."
"I'm going to have Mr. Grey's team look into this guy and we'll get eyes on him. We'll make sure he doesn't come near you or Teddy again, or any of his goons."
She shrugs telling me she doesn't believe that we'll be able to keep her safe. If she thinks this guy has power and influence, she doesn't know Mr. Grey's reach. My boss has shaken more hands with politicians, police officers, attorneys and any other key player that you can think of than anyone I've ever met.
"Thank you for telling me his name," she saved Welch and Barney time from digging into Kate's background to find who the guy was.
"Jason…I don't trust…anyone," she admits. "Not anymore. I don't want to disrupt Mr. Grey's life any more than I already have, but if you could please talk to him… I swear I can do this; I can cook and do whatever else Gail tells me needs to be covered."
"I'll talk to him," I sigh having no idea how I'm going to convince my boss to let Ana do this.
"Thank you Jason…for everything," her body visibly relaxes for the first time since she walked out of her bedroom this morning. As if I've suddenly lifted a weight off of her shoulders.
"Sawyer should be here in a few minutes, if you need anything Ana you just let him know. He'll keep you safe, I promise you that. If you need to go to the store or wherever, just let him know."
"I will, but I think we'll probably just stay here today."
I nod before heading into the bedroom where Gail is packing her bag. I glance down at my watch and realize I have mere minutes before I need to leave to take Mr. Grey to his office. I wish I had more time to say goodbye to Gail before she leaves. Gail and I have been together for well over a year now; she truly is the love of my life. I thought I had found love with Sophia's mother but I realized we were just young and naïve and had no idea what love truly was. With Gail though, everything is different.
"She won't let me bring in a temp," I whisper to Gail after closing the door behind me not wanting Ana to overhear us.
"I know, I heard," she sighs. "I can't blame her Jason."
"I don't either, but I have no idea how I'm going to convince Mr. Grey to let Ana cover for you."
"Look, the freezer is packed full of premade meals. Tell him that Ana isn't really cooking for him, more than she's just heating up the meals that I already made. It won't be that much work. As for cleaning, his laundry is the biggest thing. We send out his dry cleaning, so just arrange for them to pick up his regular laundry with it. Anything else, Jason, can wait. The place won't fall apart if dusting and vacuuming isn't done every other day. Mr. Grey doesn't entertain so it's not like we need to worry about the place looking pristine for company. "
"That's true."
"Just help Mr. Grey see that she won't be doing everything," she says. "Besides it may help Ana feel better to be doing something."
"What do you mean?"
"It might help keep her mind off of…everything if she's busy."
"True," I wrap my arms around her waist pulling her back against my chest. "Baby, what am I going to do without you?"
"You're going to miss me like crazy that's what you're going to do."
"That I am. Hurry back okay?"
"I will Jason."
I kiss her one final time before reluctantly leaving; I'd much rather stay here with her but if I don't leave soon Mr. Grey is going to be late for work. And Mr. Grey hates being late for anything.
"Ana, I'll see you this evening," I say before heading out.
"Thank you again Jason."
Don't thank me yet, I still need to convince Mr. Grey that to let you work for him for the next week or two. Despite your swollen, bruised eye, sprained wrist and busted up ribs and any other injuries that I don't know about. Yeah, that's going to fucking go over easy. Mr. Grey is waiting for me in the foyer, already typing away on his phone responding to the hundreds of emails that this man gets on a daily basis. He works more hours than anyone I've ever met.
The entire ride to the office he's either on the phone or responding to emails and by the time we get to his office building he is already on a conference call. I arrange for a time to speak with him later in the day with Andrea and warn her to not call the temp agency even if Mr. Grey insists that she needs to. She reluctantly agrees to at least wait until she hears from me before doing as Mr. Grey requests although I'm pretty sure Mr. Grey has already forgotten about needing to contact them.
"Welch, how you are?" I ask GEH's security advisor.
"Good Taylor, you?" he asks.
"Need a favor."
"Sure, who do I need to find?"
"Joseph Braxton junior."
"Want to tell me why I'm looking into the Braves' owner's son?"
"I need you and Barney to find everything on him, no matter how small I need to know about it. Be careful though; don't let it be known you're looking into him."
"What's going on Taylor? Is he threatening Mr. Grey?"
"Not exactly," I sigh trying to determine how much to say and not say.
"Say no more. Barney and I will do our thing; no one will know that we're looking into him."
"Thanks man."
"I assume this report goes directly to you and not Mr. Grey?"
"Correct."
He nods and starts typing away on his computer, I'm sure already seeing what he can find at least on the surface about Braxton. Welch and Barney are the best team when it comes to finding out information; between the two of them they will know everything there is to know about Braxton, even the stuff his Daddy doesn't want the world to know. I don't know how they do it but they always manage to find a way to get at everyone's dirty little secrets.
"Mr. Grey?" I walk into his office a few hours later at my scheduled time.
"Taylor, come in," he barely looks up from his monitor.
"Do you have a moment?"
"Sure," he reluctantly pulls himself away from the computer.
"I know this is going to sound like an odd request sir," I have no idea how the hell I'm going to pull this one off. "I'd like Ana to fill in for Gail when she is with her sister-"
"What? Absolutely not! Taylor that girl has enough on her plate, why the hell would you want her to take on Gail's responsibilities?"
"Trust me sir this is the last thing that I want."
"Then what the fuck Taylor? Why the fuck are we talking about this?"
"It's what Ana wants sir."
"What? Why? Why would she want to fill in for Gail? Did you tell her that the agency will send someone over?"
"That's the problem sir; she's…scared about having someone else in the apartment."
"Scared?"
"She's convinced that if we bring in someone that I don't know that they will get word back to her sister's ex that Ana and Teddy are in Seattle and-"
"That's nonsense Taylor. They would sign an NDA that would cover Ana and the baby."
"I know sir, but she doesn't trust them."
"Taylor the fucking girl needs to rest, not be worried about cooking and cleaning."
"Agreed sir, but she won't listen to me. She's threatening to go to a hotel if-"
"No, she can't go to a hotel."
"I know sir."
"Have you figured out who this fucker is?"
"Yes sir, I have Barney and Welch looking into him."
"Anyone I need to be concerned about?"
"I'm sure you've heard of the Braves?"
"The baseball team? Sure, of course."
"The owner's son is the…is the ex."
"Find out everything we can about him. Like I said, I want to make sure he isn't going to cause a problem for GEH or the acquisitions we have in process."
"Already on it sir. I expect a report from Welch by tomorrow."
"Good."
"About the agency sir…"
"I don't like the idea of her doing anything around the apartment Taylor. She needs to fucking rest and recover from her injuries. I don't need her injuring herself further because she did something she shouldn't have."
"I know sir, I told her the very same thing but she's adamant that having someone from the agency come will put her and the baby at risk. I spoke to Gail about it before we left this morning…she suggested that perhaps we can work around the agency."
"Meaning?"
"Gail has many meals already prepped and in your freezer, all Ana would need to do would be to heat them up for dinner. Breakfast is easy too since Gail already has all the vegetables chopped in the fridge," I explain the laundry and cleaning that Gail and I talk about this morning as well.
"I don't like this," he growls. "I don't like this at all."
"I know sir, neither do I. But if it's this or her go to a hotel-"
"No, a hotel isn't safe."
"Agreed sir."
"Fine, we'll do it her way," he reluctantly agrees. "Warn her though, I don't want her doing shit she shouldn't be doing."
"Thank you sir. I want you to know that I appreciate all you've done for Ana, I know this goes beyond what is in my contract."
"You do what is beyond your contract, Taylor. As long as it doesn't impact GEH and the business I have going on right now, we're good."
"Thank you sir."
He returns to his computer, essentially dismissing me and I leave his office feeling relieved. I don't know what I would have done if he insisted that we bring someone in from the temp agency. I know I wouldn't have been able to convince Ana to stay at Escala. I've done a little research courtesy of google on Joseph Braxton junior and senior. Senior is loaded…and is well connected like Ana said. There are pictures of him with everyone, even those outside the baseball industry including judges, senators and even the chief of police. Junior is often seen by Daddy's side at public events and surprisingly doesn't have social media account that I can find which means I have to wait for Barney and Welch to do their thing.
APOV:
Spending the day in the apartment alone is…odd. Technically I'm not alone, as Sawyer is here but he spends most of his day in Taylor's office in the main apartment. He offers to take me anywhere I need to go, but I'm not ready to leave the apartment just yet. I can't know for certain that he hasn't followed us here. That someone hasn't seen us and told him that I'm in Seattle. Or that someone will see us and get word back to him that we're here. I know I can't hide in the apartment forever; at the very least Teddy needs to get out into fresh air and sunlight.
But I spend the day inside anyway; I organize and reorganize everything Gail bought for Teddy. I do a small load of laundry so that I have clothes to wear at least until I can get to a store and buy some more. Teddy on the other hand has lots of adorable clothing courtesy of Gail so I don't need to worry about him. I give Teddy a bath, letting him splash and kick his feet in the small tub. I watch him having fun, without a care in the world and my eyes fill with tears realizing that Kate will never see him like this. Kate had less than three months with this little boy; there's so much she won't see as he grows up.
"Ms. Steele?" Sawyer calls to me from the doorway of the apartment.
"Just a minute," I quickly wipe the tears from my eyes and wrap Teddy in a towel before heading out to find Sawyer. "Sorry about that I was giving Teddy a bath."
"Taylor wanted me to let you know that they will home around six thirty," he says. "And to let you know that while Mr. Grey isn't happy, he agreed to your suggestion."
"He did?!"
"That's what Taylor said."
"Thank you Sawyer!"
"No problem, I'll be in Taylor's office if you need anything."
I nearly had a full blown panic attack when Jason told me that Gail was leaving for two weeks and that Mr. Grey wanted to bring someone in to cover for her. I know he probably thinks I'm crazy but he has no idea what he's capable of. Jason doesn't know how far his reach goes. He thinks just because I'm on the other side of the country that he can't reach us. Dad and I thought we were safe too, we thought I was hidden enough. We thought he wouldn't be able to find me and Teddy.
I shake my head, needing to pull myself back from this mess at least for just a little while. I dress Teddy and carry him and his bouncy seat into the kitchen of the main apartment. This kitchen is a dream for anyone who likes to cook let alone for someone like me. I decide to cook Mr. Grey dinner tonight rather than just reheat one of the frozen meals that Gail prepared. I want him to know that I appreciate him not going through the temp agency because I have no doubt that Jason explained to him why I was so insistent he let me do this. It also gives me the chance to repay Mr. Grey for letting me and Teddy stay here and eventually in the other apartment that Jason said we would be moving into in a few weeks.
I find everything I need to make homemade mac and cheese; I don't know if it's something that Mr. Grey would like but I figure who doesn't love comfort food especially after a long day of work. With Teddy bouncing away in his seat on the floor in the kitchen, I start dinner. I'm second guessing myself though when I take it out of the oven a short time later, wondering if I should have gone with something different. This is a man who is probably used to eating at five star restaurants and I just made him macaroni and cheese. I probably should have done a roast or something, but I didn't have time to defrost something. Planning ahead, I pull meat from the freezer to defrost for tomorrow night. Tonight I'll just have to hope that Mr. Grey is okay with this and that I didn't just blow this opportunity.
"Something smells good," Jason surprises me a few minutes later.
"Oh, I made dinner for Mr. Grey," I gesture to the stove.
"He's on a conference call in his office I doubt he'll come out for dinner as the call is scheduled for two hours. I'll bring a dish into him."
"I'll do it," that's my job after all right?
"Are you sure? I can-"
"I can manage to carry a plate of food in for him," I assure Jason.
"If you're sure."
"Just let me put Teddy in his crib-"
"I've got Teddy," he cuts me off. "We're going to stay right here, but I'll keep an eye on him."
"Are you sure?"
"It'll take you less than five minutes Ana, we'll be fine."
"Oh…okay," I hate not having Teddy in my line of sight but I'm slowly beginning to feel more comfortable in the apartment. I know I'll be a basket case the moment we step outside, but in here I'm beginning to worry just a little less.
With an eye on Taylor who is sitting on the floor next to Teddy's bouncy seat, I plate a bowl of food for Mr. Grey. I find a serving tray and load it with the dish, silverware and a bottle of cold water. He would probably prefer a beer or wine or something but if he's working would he want to drink? I figure he'll tell me if he wants something else and then I'll know for going forward.
"I'll be right back," I take one last look at Teddy who is content just staring at Jason.
"We're fine, we'll be right here," he assures me.
"What the FUCK do you mean you can't find it?!" I hear Mr. Grey scream before I even reach his office and I take a step back until I'm against the wall opposite of his office. "You need to fucking find it now because if I have to fucking come down and search you're office tonight you're going to be fucking sorry!"
I should turn around and go back to the kitchen. I should go back to the apartment. I should wait until Mr. Grey is done with his call to bring him dinner.
"Ana?" Jason's voice surprises me.
"It's about fucking time! So glad you decided to remember that you have a fucking job to do!" Mr. Grey screams a moment later.
"Why don't you hold Teddy and I'll bring dinner in?" It's only then that I notice that Jason is holding Teddy in his arms and he's not in the bouncy seat in the kitchen.
"N…No I'm fine," I shake my head.
"He'll all bark, no bite," Jason chuckles. "His employees don't know that, but I assure you that you're safe. He doesn't hit women; he won't hurt you."
I nod, take a deep breath and knock on the door before slowly pushing it open. Mr. Grey is sitting at his desk, running his hands through his hair in obvious frustration for whoever is on the call with him. I slowly make my way to his desk, looking around for somewhere to put the serving tray but every surface of his desk is covered in papers. It's not until I reach his desk does he even look up and the surprise at seeing me in his office is clear.
"Gentleman, hold for a moment," he says before hitting a button on the phone.
"Jason said your call was going to go late and figured you would be eating in here tonight."
"You made this?"
"It's nothing fancy, probably not at all what you're used to. I'm planning something better for tomorrow night though. I didn't know if you wanted beer or wine or something else with your dinner. I didn't know if you drank while you were working. I mean not drinking but-"
"Ms. Steele," he cuts me off. "Is that mac and cheese?"
"Yes," I sigh.
"My favorite," he takes the serving tray from me and puts it on his desk, right on top of the papers.
"Really?"
"You'll have to ask Gail when she comes back, but I ask her to make this for me at least once a week. Sometimes more often."
"Oh," now I feel foolish for worrying.
"I don't mean to be rude but I need to get back-"
"Of course, if you need anything else please let me know," I leave his office just as he takes the call off of hold and starts talking again.
"Okay?" Jason's waiting just outside the door for me with Teddy still in his hands.
"Yes."
I clean up the few dishes I still had out from dinner and put a dish of leftovers in the fridge not knowing if Mr. Grey will want to bring them to work tomorrow or maybe eat them over the weekend. By the time I'm finished it's time for Teddy to go down for the night, so I run through his bedtime routine trying to stick with the routine that Kate had him on. He's fast asleep in my arms before even I finish reading the book. He barley moves when I put him in his crib; I quickly change into a pair of shorts and a t shirt to sleep in before grabbing my kindle and lying on the bed. I only grabbed a handful of things for myself when I left; I was more worried about having everything that Teddy would need, but at night I'm glad I remembered to grab my kindle. It's lets me lose myself into a reality that isn't my own; one where I don't need to constantly look over my shoulder.
** Flashback (possible trigger warning) **
"Where is he?" his foot comes down hard on my ribs again. "Where are you fucking hiding him?"
I can't help the scream that escapes me when he steps on my wrist, putting his full weight on it, but I don't tell him where Teddy is. No matter what happens, I swore to Kate that I would never let that monster get his hands on her son. I don't care how many times he hits me, kicks me or touches me I won't tell him where Teddy is.
"If you don't tell me where he is you're going to be even more sorry than you already are. How long do you think you'll last? How long before you'll break? It won't take much more before you'll be fucking drawing me a map to where he is just to get me to stop."
** End flashback (end possible trigger warning) **
I wake up with tears running down my face; I quickly rush over to the crib needing to see Teddy for myself. I need to know that he's okay, that he doesn't have him. Logically I know we're in Seattle, safe inside this fortress of an apartment. That doesn't stop me though from reaching into the crib and putting a hand on Teddy's chest just to feel him. I have to force myself not to pick him up and hold him even though that's really what I want to do right now.
Instead I quietly slip out of the room, taking the baby monitor with me and leave the apartment to head into the main apartment. The kitchen is dark, the light above the stove providing just enough light to find my way to balcony doors. I disable the alarm to the door using the code that Jason gave me before opening the door and stepping out into the cool air. I take a deep breath, cringing when I forget my ribs, but the effect from the cool air is the same nonetheless. The cool air, the lights outside, the traffic on the street so far below us all brings me back to reality. It reminds me that I'm not in the warehouse, that he's not there breathing over me, hurting me again. I don't know how long I stand out here, looking over the dark city forcing myself not to go back there again.
"Do you drink?" I jump at the deep voice from behind me and grab hold of the railing as I quickly turn around.
"Wh..what?" I'm shocked as hell to see Mr. Grey standing in the doorway.
"I asked if you drank," he holds up two glasses with an amber colored liquid in them. "I find it sometimes helps."
"Oh…I don't know," I stumble. "I mean I don't not drink."
"Here," he takes a step forward and I automatically take a step back. Again, logically I know Mr. Grey won't hurt me, Jason trusts him and my father trusted Jason with our lives so I trust Jason. But the nightmares…they make me question everything I know especially right after I wake up. He must sense my uncertainty as he places the glass on the small table between us, leaving it for me to take.
"Thank you," I mumble more embarrassed then anything at my reaction.
"Can't sleep?"
"No. You?"
"No."
He looks past me at the view from the balcony as if it's the first time he's seeing it. I take the glass from the table and take a sip, the burning sensation is immediate as I swallow but like the cold air it reminds me that I'm here and not back there. I watch Mr. Grey as he slowly, almost cautiously moves around the table and sits in the other chair. It's only when he sits down to I turn around and sit in the other chair.
"Thank you again for the macaroni and cheese," he surprises me by saying.
"I'm glad you liked it."
"I ate the leftovers after my call ended it was so good."
"I was…"
"You were what?"
"I love comfort food, but I wasn't sure if you did or if you preferred something more…"
"When it comes to food, my tastes are very simple Ms. Steele-"
"Ana, please."
"Comfort food is definitely one of my favorite types of food. Mac and cheese is hands down my go to meal if given the choice. As long as I don't have to cook it anyway."
"You don't cook?"
"Not at all," he chuckles. "I'm sure Gail could tell you horror stories of the times I've ruined her meals on the weekends when she's off. That's why she leaves step by step instructions on how to heat each dish up….although sometimes I still manage to burn it. It's not that I can't follow instructions, I just end up getting distracted and completely forget about what I was doing or what step I was on."
"I can see how that could happen."
"Taylor told me about your concerns, but I want you to know that you're safe here-"
"Mr. Grey-"
"Christian, please."
"Christian, I know it seems like I'm just being paranoid-"
"It doesn't. You have every right to be worried after… I just want you to know that anyone who steps foot in this apartment or in my office building has been fully vetted and deemed safe. Taylor and my security team won't allow just anyone in here."
"Part of me knows that and…believes that. But the other part of me…"
"Still worries."
"Yes. I…I swore to my sister I would protect Teddy no matter what; I won't let her down, not again."
"Again?"
Teddy moaning in his sleep brings me to my feet immediately, I check the monitor and watch as he rolls over. He seems to fall back asleep but he normally doesn't wake at night so I don't know if he's going to stay asleep and this was just a one-time occurrence.
"I…I should get back to him."
"I'll see you in the morning Ana."
"Good night…Christian."
