Alright, onwards to Chapter 4, where our journey gets underway. I was not expecting for Chapter 3 to be so long. I actually had to force myself to stop typing at the end of it all. That chapter was the most I have ever typed.
Once again, The 3rd Dragneel and I don't own Pokémon. Just the story itself.
To those that have favorited and are following this story, thank you.
Chapter 4
Wedgehurst, Galar Region, Pokémon World
John and Kev entered the Pokémon Center and looked around. They noted the clean layout of the center, with the nurse's desk at the center on the back wall, a coffee shop to the left of the nurse's desk. To the right was a pokémart booth. John never understood why Nintendo had taken out the Pokémart building in the recent games, but decided not to complain too much as they approached the nurse's desk, where a familiar red-pink haired woman stood waiting.
"Hello there, you two." Nurse Joy greeted the two men with a smile as they approached the desk "Welcome to the Wedgehurst Pokémon Center. I'm guessing you two have never been to a Pokémon Center before?"
"Is it that obvious?" John asked rhetorically with a shrug.
"To me, it is." Nurse Joy answered before she continued. "Besides healing your Pokémon, we also provide rooms for trainers to stay in overnight for free. The last call for trainers to get rooms is 9 pm, and lights out at 10. Also, you will have to vacate the room at 9am to ensure everyone has a chance to stay the night. And there are facilities for trainers to use, such as a cafeteria and even a training ground in the back."
Kev nodded, taking in all the information. "Makes sense, but we're here to heal up our Pokémon." He said as both he and John put Stirling and DK's Pokéballs on a tray. "How long would that take?"
"Depending on the amount of injuries, anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours, but Pokémon are resilient, so it is rare that we have to use our more severe equipment. That being said, do pay attention to your Pokémon's health when out on the routes." Nurse Joy took the two Pokéballs and headed to a familiar machine that both men recognized from the game. She put the two balls on the tray and the machine started glowing. Not even a minute later, the machine let out a friendly chime, indicating that it was finished. Nurse Joy handed back the Pokéballs to John and Kev, who took them back.
"Thanks, Nurse Joy," Kev said as he and John went over to the Pokémart. However, as they walked along, Kev put a hand on John's chest. "John, you realize we're actually broke, right? I mean, what did you grab at that PokéTarget anyway?"
"Let's see, we got our clothes, I grabbed basic camping equipment," John said, thinking back to earlier that day. "Ya know: tents, sleeping bags, that sort of stuff. I think we'll need to battle trainers and get money."
"But we don't have any cash to give them if we lose." Kev brought up as he brought up a finger. "On top of that, isn't it messed up if two 20 something year old adults beat up some kid's Pokemon for money?"
"Huh… now that you mention it, who even gives them the money? Their parents? And in that case, why would they let their kids fight anyone they see?" John added.
"Okay, at this point, we should stop trying to break logic. We're acting like Deadpool." Kev told him quickly to not lose the interest of the readers. "But as for the money, if we lose, we'll have to fork over some."
"Then don't lose." John responded as they headed out to Wedgehurst. Once they were outside, both men stretched, before looking out to Route Two. "Well, we better get to Professor Magnolia's before it gets dark." John said with a smile. "Her house is at the end of Route Two. We should make it in about two-three hours." Kev looked and noticed the old house far off in the distance, but still easily within walking pace, he guessed that it had to be roughly four to five miles.
"Right, now we take our first steps as trainers." Kev grinned as the two headed out to Route Two, with adventure on the horizon, and both ready to live the dream. "Shit… more walking…"
Route Two, Galar Region, Pokémon World
The two men looked around as they headed down Route Two, the Galarian dirt crunching underneath their feet as they trudged along. John looked fine overall, though Kev was trailing behind. "Dude… can we… stop walking… for five minutes?" Kev practically begged as John looked at his phone to see the time.
"I guess it wouldn't hurt to rest up." John concluded as he and Kev took a set on some comfortable looking rocks. "Say, Kev? Ever wonder what Pokémon you would want on your team? I mean, DK and Stirling are good to start out with, but if we're gonna take on the league, we're gonna need a plan for team compositions."
Kev shrugged as he took out a water bottle and drank it. "Good point, but I don't know any of the Pokémon here in the Galar region. I think we'll just have to play it by ear for now. You know like in EDventures in Kalos? The Eds caught the first things that they saw, like Ed's Fletchling and Eddy's Dunsparce?"
John nodded, recalling one of his favorite fanfics. "Yeah, that makes sense. Guess we'll have to do the same." He agreed as they noticed tall grass up ahead. "Remember, wild pokémon can attack you in tall grass." He said in a mocking voice as Kev chuckled, remembering the way the games stopped players from just heading off into the world without their starters.
As they headed off into the tall grass, John tripped and fell over, landing with a thud on his face.
"You know Johnny boy, there's such a thing as watching where you go." Kev teased as Joh stood up, giving him a glare.
"Say that next time you fall, asshole." Came the blunt reply of John. "Just tripped over something..." He trailed off as he noticed just what he fell over, which turned out to be a Pokémon.
"Hey! Who tripped me?" Came a call from behind John. Both noticed that this Pokémon was a Yamper. It looked over at the two and sniffed John's feet before looking up at him with a blank stare and its tongue lolling out of its mouth.
John got to his feet and pulled out his phone, scanning the Pokémon. "Yamper, the Puppy Pokémon. An Electric Type. This gluttonous Pokémon is very popular as a herding dog in the Galar Region. It only assists people with their work because it wants treats. As it runs, it generates electricity from the base of its tail." John's phone said with a mischievous giggle.
"Treats!" Yamper barked, having heard what the phone said. "I want treats! Do you have treats? Or a stick!?" It barked again, running around in a circle like a normal dog.
"Guess the dex doesn't show us what moves the Pokémon knows unless it's caught." Kev muttered as he noticed the dex hadn't told them. "Makes sense, since it wouldn't be safe to just walk around scanning Pokémon in the wild and knowing what they can do."
"Yup, but now it's battling time. Stirling!" John called out, tossing out the Rabbit Pokémon's ball. "Let's rumble!" Stirling popped out in a flash of light in front of John, looking around, then folding its arms as it caught sight of the Yamper in front of it, who growled and began crackling with electricity, recognizing the challenge. Kev backed away to give John and Stirling room.
"Stirling, Ember!" John called out as Stirling spat out embers at the Yamper, who ducked to avoid them, but still got grazed over its tail, which started smoking. Yamper stood up, sniffed the air, and looked at its tail before focusing on John and Stirling. But just as it started running towards Stirling with a tackle, it stopped and looked back at its tail as it started smoking more.
"FIRE! Run away!" Yamper yelled, as it started running around in circles, as the smoke from its tail cartoonishly got darker. Yamper stopped in its tracks and started rolling around in the dirt as fast as it could. Finally, the smoking stopped and Yamper looked at Stirling angrily. "You evil bunny! Bad bunny!" It barked, before charging towards Stirling again with another tackle.
"Stirling, jump over it and use Ember once more," John shouted. Stirling did so, bouncing off of Yamper's head and landing behind it before letting more Embers loose at the Puppy Pokémon's flank, this time hitting the Yamper dead on. "Now Growl and get ready." Stirling did as he was told as the blue aura signifying a stat decrease appeared around Yamper.
"Not so tough now, are ya mutt?" Stirling smirked as Yamper slowly started getting back on its paws.
"Tough. I can do that, but I can also do this!" Yamper turned around and started wagging its tail at Stirling, who got hit with the same blue aura.
"Was that Tail Whip?" Kev asked, as John nodded. "That was strangely cute. But c'mon John, you gonna catch this dog or not? We're burning daylight."
"Noted. Stirling, Tackle Yamper!" John called. Stirling charged at Yamper, who turned around and started emitting electricity from the collar around its neck. "Careful Stirling! That's Nuzzle!" John called again, but too late as Stirling slammed into Yamper, sending it sprawling on the ground. Stirling stood proud, but soon flinched as slight sparks of electricity started coming from its body. "Damn it." John groaned. "Paralysis this early on the trip?" He sighed and shook his head as he took out an empty Pokéball. "Alright Stirling. We're catching that Yamper. Let's go! Pokéball!" John threw the Pokéball at Yamper with full strength, but the ball flew above Yamper and into the tall grass behind it, as everyone, including Yamper watched it sail over its head and out of sight.
Kev and Stirling looked at where the ball went, before looking at John and howling with laughter. "You threw the ball! Right over its head! It's not even 10 feet away!" Kev howled, trying to catch his breath, as John looked down at his feet with embarrassment at screwing up such a textbook throw.
"What a moron!" Stirling laughed, as he fell on his back and jolted as the paralysis hit him. "It was worth getting paralyzed to see you mess up a throw." He continued laughing as John just sighed sadly, not enjoying the laughing at all, especially from his own Pokémon.
[Yamper has been registered to your Pokédex.] John's phone rang out, causing Stirling and Kev to stop laughing at once as all three looked at the phone. [This male Yamper is Level 6, and knows the moves Tackle, Tail Whip, and Nuzzle. Its ability is Ball Fetch and is registered to John.]
"...Did it just catch itself?" Kev asked with wide eyes as John walked over to where the Pokéball landed in the grass. "I've heard of things like that happening in the anime, but really?" John picked up the Pokéball in the grass.
"Well, a catch is a catch." John said, as he did his own pose. "Yamper, caught!"
"John, I can't tell you how gay that looks." Kev bluntly told John, who dropped his pose. "This isn't an anime."
"But we WERE Isekai'd." John replied with a smirk, making Kev shut up. He put the Pokéball on his belt next to Stirling's, before looking over at Stirling. "Come here Stirling, let me try something." He told his pokémon as he knelt down to get face to face with Stirling. He turned the bunny Pokémon around, and started massaging his muscles. Stirling froze stiffly, but soon started relaxing.
"Now this is service." Stirling moaned as John worked his fingers into Stirling's muscles, trying to work out the paralysis. Stirling started leaning back into John's hands with a content expression. "Man, that feels great. Keep it up and maybe you can quit being a trainer and go on to be a masseuse." John pulled his hands away, and Stirling, not expecting that, fell onto his back. "Why?"
"That should work for now. Feeling any better Stirling?" John asked, as Stirling started jogging and hopping, feeling a bit better, he was still jolting with paralysis, but it wasn't as bad as before. "Figured that would sort of work. It isn't a cure all, but at least you can move without the paralysis hitting you that bad."
"Dude, what the fuck?" Kev asked with a bewildered expression. "You just massaged away Stirling's paralysis? Is that even legal? I mean… WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?!"
"Trust me, it's legal. I just thought it would work. The idea is to get his muscles moving since paralysis tenses up the muscles." John explained smartly. "It's not a cure for every time he gets hit, but we don't have any other options besides going back to Wedgehurst, which will waste time."
"Fair point. Still, it feels like this mechanic is just a bunch of bullshit." Kev said to himself as the two headed down the route, keeping their eyes peeled for more wild Pokémon, or at least not to fall over anymore. They had made some decent progress, when a voice called out to them.
"Hey! You guys!" Both looked up, to see a young teen around sixteen-ish run up to them. (A.N.: Quick Reminder: In this universe, you have to be 16 to capture and train Pokémon. Both John and Kev are in their mid-20's.) "You two look like trainers, and you know what happens when two trainer's eyes meet? We battle!"
John and Kev looked at each other. "Right, I'll take you on," Kev said as John backed up with Stirling. "But we are a little short on cash though." He explained, readying DK's Pokéball.
"We'll cross that bridge when we come to it," The young man replied with a wave of his hand. "Oh yeah, and my name's Jake. And here is my partner, Skwovet!" Jake said, tossing out his Pokéball, revealing a small squirrel like Pokémon with gray fur, and a dark gray tail. John took out his phone and scanned the Pokémon, even though he knew what it was.
[Skwovet, the Cheeky Pokémon, a Normal Type. Skwovet eats berries nonstop, this Pokémon becomes uneasy if its cheeks are ever completely empty of berries.] The dex called out. But John noticed something strange.
"Hey, how come it didn't say what moves the Skwovet knew?" He said out loud. "It did for Leon's Charizard."
Kev shrugged. "Plothole filling?" He said at last, as John and Stirling stared at him. "Right, now here we go DK!" He called as he tossed out his Grass Chimp Pokémon, who took out his stick and started beating the ground, causing the grass in the area to glow a brighter green.
"Here we go!" DK cheered, as he prepared to face the Skwovet in front of him. Kev clenched his fists, ready for a battle.
John stood in the middle of the match, but to the side to avoid any attacks. "This will be a one-on-one Pokémon match between Kev and Jake!" He said in a loud voice "You will battle until one side's Pokémon is unable to continue. Is this fair?" Both combatants nodded. "Right, begin!"
"Skwovet, use Tackle!" Jake shouted, as Skwovet charged at DK, closing the distance at a decent pace.
Kev shook his head. "DK, dodge and use Branch Poke!" DK responded quickly, rolling to the right and poking his stick into Skwovet's side, causing the Squirrel to veer off course and into another bush.
"Skwovet, try Tackle one more time." Skwovet came charging out of the bushes to DK's right at a faster pace.
"Charge!" Skwovet cheered, as it closed in on DK.
Kev knew what had to be done. "DK, use Growl and brace for impact!" DK did so, growling at Skwovet as he tensed up for the tackle to hit. Skwovet showed the blue aura just as he hit DK, sending both Pokémon into the ground. "Now use Scratch, don't let Skwovet rest!" DK responded quickly, scratching at a rapid pace as Skwovet tried to back away, but couldn't as DK kept up the pressure, before the Skwovet fell to the ground, with the K.O'd swirls in its eyes.
"I won! All of you have now seen my true power! I will show this world the power of my stick beating skills! MWAHAHAHAHAHA!" DK started laughing over Skwovet like a psycho, feeling his exp grow.
"... You know, I forgot that Grookey gets like this sometimes when he wins." Stirling commented with a sweatdrop.
"Kevin, CHOP!" DK stopped his laugh when Kev handchop his head, though it was too hard to the point of Pokemon abuse. "That's enough, buddy. No need to go psycho on us."
"Oops. Sorry." DK apologized with his tongue sticking out while he gave a cute wink.
John blinked and looked at the Skwovet, not expecting such a violent onslaught. "Uhh ...yeah. Skwovet is unable to continue. DK is the winner. Match goes to Kev."
Jake could only stare as DK backed up. "Why did you do that?" He asked, looking at Kev, who high-fived DK. "You could have really hurt Skwovet." He added, picking up Skwovet.
"Yeah, sorry about that. But, we're kinda in a time crunch here." Kev responded as DK hopped onto his shoulder. "And it is getting late as well, so we need to get to Professor Magnolia's place." He added, as the sun was just beginning to set. John looked at his phone, and realized that the time was roughly 5:37pm.
Jake grumbled as he handed over some money to Kev. "You're a bloody muppet." He growled as he left back up Route Two to return to the Pokémon Center. John walked up to Kev.
"Well fuck you too, kid." Kev said with an annoyed tone
"You know that is going to come back to bite us in the ass later, right?" He asked with a raised brow.
"Let him come. He doesn't get to call me a muppet and get away with it." Kev responded with his arms crossed.
"So, how much did he give you for nearly killing his Skwovet?" John asked while nudging his friend.
"Three hundred and sixty Pokédollars." Kev responded, putting the cash in his wallet. "But we will worry about that later. We got some miles to cover." He patted John on the shoulder and the group headed down the road, with DK on his shoulder, and Stirling following. With almost no gear, the two had to move quickly.
The two had not gotten very far before John went up a slight fork in the road, heading up a small incline. Kev looked over as John bent down to pick something up, before hopping down the other side. Kev jogged down the path, and saw John looking at two bottles. "Found these potions on the ground," He chuckled, before sending out Yamper, who had some small bruising from his earlier combat against Stirling. "Stirling, let me get you two healed properly. We have more battling ahead." He finished, spraying down Yamper and Stirling, who started looking much better.
Kev nodded. "You know, you gonna name the Yamper?" Kev asked, looking at John. "I mean, it looks like there isn't much going on upstairs." He pointed to his head as Yamper rolled onto his back and wagged his tail.
John looked back at Yamper and picked him up, bringing him face-to-face with John. "Hello! My name is Yamper!" Yamper barked, licking John's face and wagging his tail again.
"Ed," John said, nodding as Yamper, now named Ed, barked again. "His name is Ed. Reason being, like you said, there isn't much going on upstairs." He smirked as he put Ed down on the ground, who barked again.
"Right, so are there any items up ahead?" Kev asked. John nodded. "Great, point them out when you can." He turned as John returned Ed and Striling and the duo continued on their way.
The two hadn't gotten far before a young woman called out to the two. "Hey!" She shouted, catching the two's attention. "Are you two trainers? If so, we're going to battle!" She cheered, taking out a Pokéball and pointing at the two.
"Right." John nodded, stepping forward. "I'll take you on, and is this a one v. one?" He asked as the young lady nodded. "Good, now let's get a move on!" He grinned, tossing out Ed's Pokéball, releasing the Puppy Pokémon, who barked and looked around.
"Hello?" Ed yipped, looking at the lass in front of him, who tossed out her pokémon, which was a turtle-like Pokémon with large teeth, who snapped at him.
"Interesting." John said, taking out his phone and scanning the turtle in front of Ed. [Chewtle, the Snapping Pokémon, a Water-Type. It starts off battles by attacking with its rock-hard horb, but as soon as the opponent flinches, this Pokémon bites down and never lets go. Apparently the itch of its teething impels it to snap its jaws at anything in front of it.] John's phone explained to its owner.
"Alright Chewtle, use your Water Gun!" The lass cheered again as Chewtle launched a powerful stream of water at Ed, who barely flinched as the stream hit him.
"Come on sister, this ain't Saturday Night. Ed, hit Chewtle with Nuzzle!" John called out, as Ed nodded and ran towards Chewtle, his fluffy collar sparking.
"I am Ed! Starf and Oran Berries!" Ed shouted as he hit Chewtle, dealing super-effective damage on the water-type, as Ed ran back to get distance, Chewtle looked run down, with small electric sparks coming from it, signifying paralysis.
"Chewtle! Are you okay?" The lass asked her pokémon, who groaned as the paralysis hit it. "Use Tackle!" With sparks flying from the paralysis, Chewtle slowly charged forward towards Ed.
"Dodge it and use Nuzzle one more time." John said, as Ed sidestepped away from Chewtle, and hopped on top of the Snapping Pokémon as he used spark again. Chewtle yelped in pain and collapsed on the ground with the familiar swirls in its eyes. "And that's the game. Nice try." John added, as he gave the lass a reassuring smile as she returned Chewtle, and Ed jogged back over to John, who petted the Puppy Pokémon on the head.
"I guess." The lass swaid, as she took out her wallet and handed John some money. "Wasn't really fair though, just using Nuzzle."
John shrugged. "Type advantage. That's just one thing to work with. Now, we really gotta go, we're burning daylight even more." The two waved goodbye and tore off down the route towards Magnolia's house.
The two were just hurrying through the grass, when something flew out of the grass in front of Kev, causing the heavier-set man to stop in his tracks and look as a blue bird Pokémon with a yellow belly and a black mask stood in front of him. "Hey John. What sort of 'mon is this?" Kev asked as he referred to the Pokemon.
"Rookiedee." Came John's response. "But you have a freaking dex too, man. Use it."
Kev shook his head as he took out his phone and scanned the bird in front of him.
[Rookidee, the Tiny Bird Pokémon, a Flying Type. It will bravely challenge any opponent, no matter how powerful. This Pokémon benefits from any battle, as even a defeat increases its strength.]
Kev put his phone away, looking at the tiny bird hopping in front of him, sizing him up with a glint in its eye. "Alright then, DK. Here we go!" Kev called, sending out DK, who looked at the Rookidee with vigor.
"So, you are my newest opponent?" The Rookiedee asked DK. "I assure you, I will not go down so easily. Let us begin, primate."
"Don't get so upset when I rock circles around you. Let's start this concert!" DK looked at Kev and nodded.
"DK, use Growl to start out, then Tackle!" Kev called. DK responded quickly, growling at the bird before charging forward and slamming into the Rookidee, who hopped back on its feet and flew over to DK, its beak glowing with energy.
"Try to dodge! That's Peck!" John warned out loud. But it did little good as Rookiedee slammed into DK, dealing Super-Effective Damage to DK.
"Ouch!" DK yelped as he slowly picked himself up and slammed his stick on the ground, glaring at the Rookidee. "That wasn't nice!
"All is fair in war. Speaking of war." Rookidee flew over to Kev and started pecking at his head rapidly.
"Get him off! John, DK, help!" Kev shouted urgently as both human and Pokémon tried to get the Rookidee off Kev. But Rookidee was too nimble and just fluttered away, only to come back 30 seconds later and go back to pecking. "DK, use Tackle!"
Without even thinking, DK charged on top of John, then leapt at the Rookidee, slamming into it with another Tackle and knocking it to the ground, glaring
Kev grabbed a Pokéball and tossed it at Rookidee, who looked as it was hit head on with the ball, and was absorbed into it with a red light. Both humans and DK looked as the ball rolled once, twice.
"You do know when it gets out, it will attack again right?" John asked, as Kev nodded, eyes never leaving the ball, as it rolled one last time, and an audible 'click' was heard. "Nevermind." He added as Kev picked up the Pokéball.
"Alright! That's one caught Rookidee." Kev said, holding out the ball, as DK cheered behind him.
[Rookidee has been registered to your Pokédex. This Male Rookidee is Level 7, knows the attacks Peck, Growl and Power Trip, it's ability is Big Pecks, and is registered to Kevin.]
John just stood there clapping at the two. "Goodie goodie. Now, onwards! We've had enough filler for now." He groaned as Kev returned DK and followed John down the route. But the two hadn't gotten far, before they were stopped yet again by a final person on the route, this one also tossing a Pokéball up in the air. Both Californians couldn't help but groan in anger as the young man looked over at them.
"Well, I didn't expect to find anyone here after Leon's brother beat me," The young man said. "But if you want to get to Professor Magnolia's, you'll need to beat me in a battle. And I won't make it easy on you."
"We get it, we get it," Kev said, taking out a Pokéball. "But we are in a rush. Do you think you can battle both of us to just save time? We'll pick one Pokémon and you pick out two?"
The young man grinned and nodded. "Sounds fair. My name's Benjamin, if you were wondering," The now named Benjamin said as he tossed out his two Pokémon, a Blipbug and a Nickit. Both John and Kev took out their phones and scanned the Pokémon in front of them.
[Blipbug, the Larva Pokémon, a Bug-Type. Often found in gardens, this Pokémon has hairs on its body that it uses to assess its surroundings, this Pokémon is very smart. Very strong is what it isn't.]
[Nickit, the Fox Pokémon, a Dark-Type. Cunning and cautious, this Pokémon silently raids the food stores of other Pokémon. It erases its tracks with swipes of its tail and survives off its ill-gotten gains.]
"Epic," John said. "But we are in a rush, so don't be cross when we cream you." He added, as he and Kev sent out Ed and Rookidee respectively. "You're using Rookidee right away? Got a plan?"
"Yeah. I got Blipbug, you get Nickit." Kev murmured. He was about to call out an attack, when the three heard a shout from across the bridge. All three men looked to see Hop come running over.
"Wait! Wait!" Hop shouted as he came running up, skidding to a stop next to Benjamin. "You can't have a battle without me, mate! Considering you both ignored me back in Wedgehurst. We'll make this a much more fair fight. How many Pokémon do you have?" He asked both John and Kev.
"Two each," Came John's reply. "So we make this a proper double battle?" He sighed as Hop nodded and had Benjamin return Nickit and Hop sent out his Wooloo. "Oh fuck… Not that thing again." John groaned as Wooloo's eyes lit up in joy.
"Oh boy! My ottoman's here!" Wooloo cheered as he hopped up and down. "I missed you ottoman!" Wooloo kept hopping as John scanned it.
[Wooloo, the Sheep Pokémon. A Normal-Type. Its curly fleece is such an effective cushion that this Pokémon could just fall off a cliff and stand right back up at the bottom, unharmed. Clothes made with the wool of this Pokémon are surprisingly strong.]
"I'm willing to bet I could throw it off the Grand Canyon and not lose an inch of sleep if the woolly shit didn't survive." John muttered, only Kev heard his dark comment.
"You know I agree with you… but bro." Kev said to his friend, only for John to ignore him.
"Right, Ed, use Nuzzle on Wooloo!" John called out as Ed ran over to Wooloo, barking all the while as it slammed into Wooloo, hitting it with paralysis.
"Not bad." Hop grinned. "But not good enough! Wooloo, use Tackle on Yamper!" Wooloo hopped back on its feet and ran towards Ed as he slammed into Ed as well, dealing a fair bit of damage.
"Get out of my way, puppy!" Wooloo yelled at Ed. "You're what is between me and my ottoman! And I will have it!"
"Bad sheep!" Ed barked angrily. "You will never use my trainer as an ottoman! What's an ottoman?" He stopped, as that thought struck his mind.
"Ed! Keep your head in the game! Use Tail Whip!" Ed did so, and the blue aura appeared around Wooloo, showing a defense decrease. "Now hit it with Tackle!" Ed followed up with a tackle, sending Wooloo back a few feet.
Meanwhile, Kev had rapidly dispatched Blipbug using Rookidee's Peck attack, and was now facing off against Nickit. "Use Power Trip!" Kev called out, and Rookidee did, huffing and trying to look macho as it charged and hit Nickit. But Nickit shrugged off the attack.
"Really?" Nickit asked. "You hit me with a Dark-Type attack?" It raised an eyebrow at this, as Rookidee just groaned.
"Nice try!" Benjamin grinned. "Nickit, use Tail Whip," Nickit did so, turning around and swinging its mop-like tail at Rookidee. Benjamin looked at Rookidee, expecting the blue aura, showing a stat decrease, but blinked as he saw Rookidee was unphased. "Big Pecks?" He asked.
Kev nodded. "Big Pecks, and speaking of Big Pecks. Rookidee, use Peck!" He grinned as Rookidee charged at Nickit and landed a Peck right on Nickit's side as it turned around to try another attack, sending the Fox Pokémon onto the ground. "Nice hustle, Rookidee." Rookidee's eyes glinted at the praise from his trainer.
"Nickit, use Quick Attack!" Nickit got up and vanished right before Kev and Rookidee's eyes, before popping back up and slamming into the Tiny Bird Pokémon. "Good job Nickit, now try-"
"Rookidee, use Peck again!" Nickit found itself on the receiving end of a Peck attack. "And again!" Kev looked as Rookidee slammed into Nickit again, this time finally knocking out the Fox. "Victory!" He cheered, as Rookidee nodded in agreement, before both looked over at Hop and John's battle. "Hey Hop, your teammate's down. Now we're back to a two on one fight!"
Hop looked over, as did John. Both Ed and Wooloo looked worn out, with Wooloo's paralysis having not gone down, and Ed panting, with a few small bruises on his body. Without any options, Hop tossed out another Pokéball, showing his own Rookidee. John grinned, this was what he was hoping for.
"Ed. Use Nuzzle on that new Rookidee!" Ed barked, and hit Rookidee with the Super Effective attack, causing it to cry out as electricity coarsed through its body. "One more time!" Once again, Ed did as he was instructed, this time knocking out the Rookidee, much to Hop's shock.
"Hey! What was that for!?" Hop called out. "You two really aren't fighting fair!"
John and Kev groaned again. "Hop, mate." John sighed. "We have had a long, LONG day. With crap you wouldn't even BEGIN to understand. It's late, we're tired, and sore, and fed up with the constant battling. Our teams are starting to wear out. Need we go on?" He looked, making eye contact with the Galarian.
"Yeah, but still," Hop said. "Don't you think that was a little...extreme?" Both nodded to a point. "You know that if you both did those harsh tactics during a real gym battle you could be disqualified. True you don't have to take turns in a battle, but going insane on a gym leader's pokémon could get you two looked at by the league."
Both John and Kev looked at each other and nodded, this was a good thing to know now, then to accidentally screw up and make a mess of later. "Alright." Kev said. "We'll try to dial back on the onslaught of attacks. Does that work?"
"I suppose." Hop said, as he sent out his last Pokémon, his Sobble. John and Kev scanned this new combatant.
[Sobble, the Water Lizard Pokémon. A Water-Type. When Sobble gets scared, it cries. Its tears pack the chemical punch of 100 onions, and attackers won't be able to resist weeping.]
"Alright. Let's wrap this up," Kev said, as he returned Rookidee, and sent out DK. "DK, use Branch Poke on Wooloo."
"Let's rock!" DK cheered, as it ran up to the paralyzed sheep, and poked it with the stick from its head. With the earlier slug match with Ed, it didn't take much for Wooloo to come crashing down, fainted.
Hop returned Wooloo and looked at both Ed and DK. This was not a fight that could be won at all. But he had to at least try. "Sobble, use Water Gun on Yamper." He said, as Sobble fired off a Water Gun at Yamper, sending the Puppy sprawling to the floor, soaking wet.
"You okay Ed?" John asked, kneeling by Ed, who nodded as he slowly got to his feet. "That's enough Ed, take five. Kev, wrap this up!" He added as he returned Ed to his Pokéball.
"Got it! DK, use Branch Poke on Sobble!" DK did so, lunging at Sobble and hitting it with his stick, dealing super-effective damage.
"Sobble, use Growl!" Sobble growled at DK, as the four saw the blue aura around DK as his attack was lowered.
"Let's wrap this up, DK. One more Branch Poke!" Kev called out. DK attacked one more time, landing a hit right on Sobble's forehead, causing it to fall back, showing critical damage. "Dude, was that a Critical Hit?" Kev asked, then cheered. "Fuck yeah! Game Over!" He and John high-fived, then Kev high-fived DK.
Hop and Benjamin looked at each other and nodded. "Great match, you two." Hop said as both he and Benjamin walked over with the prized money.
"Yup." Benjamin added. "Here ya are, 1060 in Pokédollars. Enjoy." The two Californians took the money and shook hands with the two Galarians.
"Great. But now can we get moving?" John asked. "I feel like we've been on this route for thirteen pages." Everyone looked at him. "Nevermind, that is the insanity kicking in." He finished as both he and Kev followed Hop to the old house that was at the end of the route.
Chapter End
Now we are getting somewhere. With both Kev and myself catching our first team members, and our first double battle.
I honestly had to make a choice, stop just as we get to the house, or try to condense the whole of Route Two into one chapter. Which I think would've killed me.
Next Chapter will have us getting into the Wild Area, and you will all be there when we start our new hijinks and foray into cooking!
But first, my first ever omake.
Omake: Ed catches himself
The shiny Pokéball flew over Yamper's head, catching his attention. He, as well as the weird people and the evil bunny stared as it landed in the bushes behind him. Something inside Yamper's head clicked.
Ball + Yamper = FETCH!
Following that little spark in his head, Yamper ignored the laughter that the big person and the bunny made to the tall one and ran after the ball. "Ball! Table for one!" He barked, charging into the bushes.
Not even a few seconds after he ran after the ball, he found it nestled in the bushes. The tall human really knew how to throw. Running up to it he looked at it, it was so bright, and shiny. He decided he would return it to the human, maybe then the bunny and other human would stop laughing? He picked it up in his mouth, and started walking back to the trio outside the bushes, when he moved his tongue around the part of the ball in his mouth, his tongue hit a strange thing that ruined what would have been the most perfect, round ball ever.
He pushed his tongue against it, to try and put it back into the ball, when he heard a click and felt himself being disassembled and sucked into the ball. He soon felt himself being picked up and opened his eyes to find that he was inside the ball! It was big and spacious inside, with grassy fields and plains, and looking up he could see the tall human that threw the ball earlier.
"Yamper. Caught!" The tall human said, holding out his new home. Yamper barked happily, then felt something tap his back. Looking back, he saw his tail, wagging, taunting him with its uncatchability.
"Attack!" He barked as he started to chase his tail in circles around his new home.
