CHAPTER FOUR

Brenda had called an old friend of hers. Her best friend from Minnesota actually. Her name was Valerie Malone. She knew that Val would never betray her by telling anyone where Brenda was or where she was going. Val had her bag packed. She was meeting Brenda and leaving Minnesota behind. She wanted out of there now. She knew that Brenda was pregnant. Val knew that Brenda needed help and Val was going to be the one that helped her. On the plus side she would be getting out of there, out of Minnesota away from her family and that made Val happy.

When Brenda had called her a couple months ago and told her what happened with Dylan, what was going on, Val had a feeling that Brenda would not be staying in Beverly Hills. Val had gotten a job too. She had gone and took her tests early too, but for a different reason. Val needed away from her parents and their home and what was going on there. So, when Brenda called, she had been working, putting away money so she too could leave Minnesota, for different reasons. She had to get away. So, when Brenda called, which she knew she would Val was ready.

Cindy and Jim called Val's mother to see if Val knew where Brenda was, Val told them she had no idea where Brenda was, which of course, she did, but she wasn't about to tell them that, not after what happened to Brenda in Beverly Hills. She was not about to betray her friend.

The train that Brenda was on made a stop and Val was waiting for it to pull into the station. She had gotten a ticket and was just waiting for the train doors to open and she would be meeting Brenda when she walked off the train to get something to eat. She had something for Brenda to eat already. She knew it was important for Brenda to eat healthy foods so that is what she got her.

The train stopped, and the doors opened, and Brenda got off the train to see Val waiting for her.

Val on seeing Brenda smiled. She sure missed her best friend. So, she hugged Brenda upon seeing her. She tells Brenda, "I have missed you."

"I have missed you too, Val. California is not all it's cracked up to be, that's for sure." Brenda said, she refuses to cry when her mind drifts to thinking about Dylan. She was trying not to think of him.

"Dylan has trashed my heart, not once, but twice. I couldn't tell him that I am pregnant after he said that it was mistake making love to me, when he was still with Kelly and I didn't know. I was lied to by Dylan. He had told me that him and Kelly were over that he wanted me back, that is why I slept with him, Val. I didn't know that Kelly and Dylan hadn't broken up. He lied to me and he ended up destroying me once again. This time though I ended up pregnant. I couldn't tell him about being pregnant not after what he said to me. He hurt me. He hurt my heart with what he did and said. I believed him. I wanted to believe him because I loved him still. At that point I still loved him, but after what he said to me that he had made a mistake sleeping with me. He was still with Kelly and he didn't want me back, he did not want Kelly to know about our sleeping together and for him to lose her because of a mistake he made. Since that is how he felt I didn't tell him I am pregnant, and especially that he is the father, I couldn't tell anyone about what happened because they had all forgave Dylan and Kelly so easily, so I had no one I could talk to. They were Brandon's friends not mine. It took a while for me to figure that out. I finally did though and with all this going on I decided to get out of there. I can't go back there." Brenda said passionately. No, she could and would not go back to Beverly Hills. No matter what happened, she would not be returning to Beverly Hills.

"I know you can't. We will both start a new life in New York City. We will find jobs right away hopefully. We can't go to long without jobs. The money we have together will sustain us for a while, but not indefinitely. We need to get health coverage for you because of the baby. We will need to put aside a little money so when you have the baby you will not have to rush back to work. We also need clothes, diapers and stuff like that for the baby, but for now eat so we can get on the train and head out of here before anyone who knows me or us won't tell my parents that I am leaving or that they have seen you."

Brenda takes out the food and realizes it is just healthy food and she looks at it and at Val, who is looking at Brenda's face and the sour looking face that Brenda gives her. Val still laughing at her best friend's face. "I know you don't like what is in that bag to eat, but with you pregnant you have to eat healthy foods for the baby. It is better for you and the baby to be healthy and that means eating right, exercising, which will be good for the baby if you are in shape when you give birth."

A surprised Brenda looks at Val, who on seeing Brenda looking at her like that, although Brenda is eating what Val had gotten her although she doesn't want it but Val was right she did need to eat healthier and exercise. She was shocked that Val knew so much about babies and what she needed to do to have a healthy pregnancy and birth.

When Val sees the look on Brenda's face. "When you called me and told me you were pregnant I looked on the internet about pregnancy, babies and birth, so I could help you with your pregnancy."

Brenda gets teary-eyed at this. "Thank you, Val. I am really happy that you cared enough to look it up to help me. No one else would, certainly not my so-called friends in Beverly Hills or my 'family'. What a joke that anyone out in California would ask or care what was going on with me. I had no one to talk to. They all, including Brandon, Dad, and Mom didn't care what I was going through, no one asked if I was alright, which I wasn't, but no one cared or thought to ask me how I was doing."

Val couldn't believe that Brandon would take someone else's side. Brandon and Brenda had been so close before they left for Beverly Hills. What had happened to that? How could Brandon not take his sister's side? She wondered at this. Brandon sure had changed, from what he used to be, a loving brother. How could he have changed that much? She guessed being in California, in Beverly Hills had sure changed him. It used to be Brenda and Brandon was so close if you saw one, you saw the other one too. She would like to go to California and beat the holy crap out of him so he would wake up and realize what he had done to Brenda. She couldn't trust him anymore. She couldn't believe that Brandon had changed that much.

She looked at Brenda as she ate the last of her lunch. With her finished Val picked up her duffle bag and they walked to the train where she handed her duffle bag to the man at the door and showed her boarding pass and Brenda showed hers. They got on the train leaving Minnesota and California behind.

Next stop their new life, away from everyone that they knew and had hurt them so badly. Next stop New York City.
