Villanelle dreams again. A happy dream. A sad dream. It's a dream that leaves her heart aching when she wakes.

Crying.

She thinks it was a memory. She notices Eve asleep beside her, her hand loosely holding onto her shirt. And Villanelle can't help but stare at her sleeping face and the memories from her dream play over in her head. Over and over, afraid that these images will fade away. That if she forgets she'll be forgetting a part of herself all over again.

She remembers…

Bare skin and soft sheets. Villanelle rested her head on Eve's chest as she listened to Eve hum a song.

"Eve?"

"Yeah?"

"Will you miss me?"

Eve ran her hair through her blonde hair, "I always miss you."

Villanelle smiled and laid a small kiss to her chest, "I always miss you too….Eve?"

"Yeah?"

"If...if I don't come back…"

Eve stilled her hand, "You will."

"But if I don't….you'll be happy? I want you to be happy. I took away your happiness once already."

Eve sat up causing Villanelle to sit up while straddling her, looking down into Eve's sad eyes.

"How could I ever be happy without you now? I'd burn the whole world down just for you now."

Villanelle wrapped her arms around Eve's neck, "I'm being serious Eve, if I don't come back I want you to be happy, but don't forget me okay?"

Eve wrapped her arms around her surprised in the sadness and fear that came from the younger woman. They sat in silence for a minute until Eve managed to flip Villanelle onto the mattress beside her, tangled up in sheets, hands resting on either side of Villanelle's face.

"I can't promise that I'll be happy but I promise that I'll try. And I could never forget you. How could you when you've literally left scars on me? You're a part of me now. Just like I'm a part of you. We've consumed so much of each other. I don't know who I am without you. You make me happy. So you have to come back. Promise you'll come back?"

Villanelle choked back tears, "I'll try."

Eve kissed her forehead, "I love you," kissed her cheeks, "I love you," kissed her lips, "I love you," kissed her and told her endless "I love you's" as Villanelle cried in her arms.

And that's when Villanelle woke up with tears on her face and an ache in her chest. That was definitely a memory but she still couldn't remember anything else.

"Please, let me keep this memory, please don't fade away," she whispered to the night, she looked at Eve's sleeping form and reached a hand out to her, "Were you happy, Eve, did you miss her? Did you miss me?"

She can't get back to sleep after that, so she lays there staring at the ceiling, watching as shadows bounce across it and she tries to tell herself a story with them to get her to fall asleep.

There are no more dreams after that, she wakes tired and Eve is gone. She's sore all over and all she wants to do is fall back asleep. She struggles to sit up and runs a hand through her hair.

Something catches her attention as she looks to the corner of the room and she startles at seeing a woman standing there with a bloody neck. Villanelle wants to scream but she's paralyzed, who is this woman, she thinks she should know who this woman is.

You don't belong here.

She hears this woman's voice and it makes her blood run cold, it makes her angry and makes her frightened at the same time.

You don't belong anywhere.

The woman seems to get closer and yet Villanelle still can't move. Where is Eve? Who is this woman?

You should've died.

The woman is standing right in front of her now and Villanelle is shaking, tears are falling and she can't scream out.

You should've never been born.

And as the woman reaches out a scream finally rips itself free from her throat reaching all the way to where Eve is in the kitchen. She runs to the bedroom a knife gripped in her hand poised to use it once she makes it to the room.

Villanelle is huddled on the floor clutching her head, she barely notices Eve enter the room despite her loud entrance.

"Villanelle, what's wrong?"

She doesn't even acknowledge the question so Eve crouches in front of her, knife still in hand as she takes a glance around the room.

"Villanelle?"

The blonde seems to come back to herself as she notices Eve's presence but before she can say anything she notices the knife in Eve's hand and she's bombarded by flashes of memories that are jumbled. She can't quite figure them all out. She remembers pain and blood and Eve with a knife in her hand. She remembers these things but still can't quite piece anything together. But she looks at Eve in fear, eyes wide, she's so confused.

"Eve, did you hurt me?"

Eve looks at her with concern and then back to the knife in her hand she understands, "Villanelle, I'm going to put this knife down and we'll talk about whatever just happened."

But Villanelle is struggling to her feet, refusing Eve's help and running as much as she can run for a woman with stitches in her gut and she is throwing up in the bathroom. Eve's right behind her holding her hair back as she throws up. Once she's emptied her stomach and she's exhausted panting on the floor, she lets out a whimper as she feels Eve's hand rubbing at her back.

She knows she should be scared of those images, is she scared or is she thrilled? She's so confused, who is she and who is Eve really?
