Ok. I've added a new chapter. Some of you may know I've rewritten the story and this chapter wasn't before.
Thank you for your reviews and favouring and following the story. It means a lot to be.
- Merille Marc: I can't answer your questions because it will ruin the mystery of the story. It depends on what you expect from Merlin. Yes, he would play a more central role, let's say.
Yes, Arthur could be very cruel (but I doubt he realized it. He had some problems with expressing his feelings. He had been grown up to hide his feelings and being too open seemed like a vulnerability), but considering the period and everything, Merin got quite a good treatment. If you judge the events from a 21st-century perspective, indeed, Merlin was treated like a slave and not like a friend. This chapter won't answer your questions, though. You'll have to wait one more week (yes, I'll publish the next week unless something happens...).
- Thank you, secret reviewer. Let's hope you'll keep enjoying it.
Let me know what you think. Just give me five minutes of your time and write your thoughts, please. Have a nice week!
The soon-to-be-bride
Drakar. Six days ago
A day had already passed since Morgana had made that promise. The night came and the witch didn't feel like going to bed. Aithusa hadn't returned from her journey (she had gotten used to flying around the country) and the witch stood at her opened window, waiting in the cold air.
Morgana was happy to see her little dragon enjoy her new life in Drakar, but she couldn't help feeling worried about her little baby.
The town looked lovely from the top of the castle. Thousands of lights shone in the darkness. Night had a charming effect over the neglected towns.
The witch heard stories about how they used to look during the glorious past. Sarah, her maid, had brought her books about the history and the legends of the kingdom. Morgana had found them fascinating. In fact, reading was what made her forget for a while about her worries and enjoy her stay in Drakar.
The witch hadn't visited the surroundings yet, but she was eager to.
She had eventually fallen asleep in the morning. She dreamt herself preparing for what seemed to be her wedding day.
She was wearing a lovely white dress. The dress was so airy and delicate that it seemed as if it had been woven with snowflakes. Magic had to be involved. Despite the long train, the dress felt so light and comfortable and Morgana smiled delighted as she saw her reflection in the mirror.
Two tiny diamond dragons hung down her ears, tied to a delicate silver chain that started with a tiny rubin rose. The third dragon made of diamond was lying on a bed of silver leaves and tiny rubin flowers which adorned the milky skin of her neck base.
Aithusa was overexcited. She kept dancing around the room, admiring her human friend. She'd grown a lot and he had less and less space to jump around the place without destroying something. As a result, she hit a vase full of wild spring flowers with the tip of his tail. Morgana laughed as she noticed Aithusa's reaction. With a simple spell, the witch fixed the vase and poured the spilled water back into the vase. Yet, she decided to arrange the flowers with her own hands.
As she moved around the room, two yellow eyes watched her from the top of the bed, or better said, they were spying on the waves of her dress on the floor. A few moments later, Morgana felt a heavy presence weighting on the base of her dress. She tried to arrange the dress and she found her black cat was wrapped in the layers of her wedding gown.
"You, naughty boy." Morgana gently scolded the cat. "How long have you spied on my dress? You aren't allow to play with it." She added as she took the cat in her arms. "This day is important for me. Do you understand, my naughty boy? I have to look perfect. Don't worry! You will always be my first love. Yet we don't want to upset the king, do we? So, be quiet." She caressed the cat and he seemed to enjoy the warmth of the embrace.
"He will keep your secret." A sweet voice said, " but my silence...it's going to cost you." It was a girl, no more than seven years old. She was dressed in a fine dress as well and she had white flowers in her red hair. The girl watched her with big brown eyes and a big laugh on her face. "The king asked me to make sure you won't run away." The girl joked. "I couldn't wait to see you in your wedding dress," the girl admitted in the end. "He's very handsome, too."
"I have to finish your hair and you can see him." Her maid added as she entered the room.
"Right. What do you have in mind? I want to give him a day he would never forget."
"Patience, My Lady."
"My Lady, you have to wake up." It was Sarah. "The queen wants to see you. " She added as Morgana finally opened her eyes. "She said something about preparing for the wedding."
"I've brought you your food, My Lady," another maid spoke. Morgana didn't know her name although she'd seen her several times.
"Thank you." The witch answered, happily. The dream had a very good effect on her mood.
Maybe she thought, maybe, I'll be happy.
It was a long day. She met lots of people, spoke with different tailors, saw dozens of colours and fabrics for her future dress. None as the one from her dream, though.
Soon her enthusiasm was replaced by tiredness and disappointment. It had only been a dream. A nice one, but not one of her prophecies. Of course. Her prophecies had all taken the form of nightmares.
Eventually, she allowed the queen to choose for her as nothing seemed to be up to her expectations.
Then, she had to choose the jewelry. Morgana knew she could command the exact earring and necklace she'd seen in her dream, but she didn't want to. She felt they were special and so, they should stay there, in her imagination, rather than ruined their beauty by making them too tangible. So, after a long debate with the queen, who wanted something more delicate and "peaceful", Morgana chose a golden snake with amethyst eyes as a necklace and a pair of long earrings.
Though, there was more work to be done. Prince Eugene didn't want to get involved so she had to deal with invitations, flowers, menu and of course entertaining.
At the end of the day, she was completely exhausted and she hadn't written all the invitations (Sarah had given a hand, but Morgana had to sign all of them), she hadn't decided on the program of the wedding. She'd suggested a melee or something like that as entertaining but the queen considered it "too Camelotish". She'd lost all hope of agreeing on the food as the queen dismissed all her recommendations and she had a fierce fight with the queen about the flowers.
After an entire day when the only breaks were those to eat, Morgana decided she didn't want to get married.
Truth be said, Morgana had been in a very bad mood and she had been very hard to please. The queen hadn't been in the mood of organizing a wedding, either, and it was almost impossible for the two women to compromise.
Even Aithusa got bored and ran away. She had some fun while testing the sweets, but the young dragon's stomach had its limits, too.
The dragon returned some hours later when Morgana was finally alone in her chamber. The dragon spun around for a while, trying to capture the witch's attention and then she flew out of the window. She turned around several times to make sure Morgana had understood her message.
"Do you want me to follow you?" The witch asked eventually. The little dragon nodded.
