Butterflypaw
Sleeping peacefully in the warm sun that poked through the leaves of the tall pines. Butterflypaw was shook out of her rest by Flurrypaw's coughing. Looking at her friend, Flurrypaw only shook her head before pointing with her tail.
Her mentor, Rockstrike, stood at the entrance of the den. The red tom didn't seem happy at all…
"Come on, wake up Geckopaw as well. Badgerstar is sending us out to get our newest helper." His didn't hide how much he hated this idea. But why? Didn't it make sense to have a new cat to help them out?
She stretched and yawned out of her nest and leaned over to wake her sister. Geckopaw merely rolled over, so Butterflypaw hovered above her and let herself drop on top of her.
"Ahh! Get off of me you giant furball!" Geckopaw squealed. Butterflypaw giggled and leaped off, missing the paw trying to swipe at her. "Come on! We have to go get Eveningpaw from Hollowclan!"
Geckopaw scrambled to her paws, "Why did you say so?" The two ran out of the den, giggling as they chased one another to the entrance where their mentors waited.
Streamhawk smiled warmly at them but Rockstrike's gaze hardened. "Come on, let's hurry to get back."
They leaped over the fallen tree and marched quickly through the pine forest. Butterflypaw's tail twitched in excitement as she fell in beside Geckopaw to chat.
"I don't understand what everyone has a problem with, we need more paws to help the sickness." Butterflypaw whispered.
"Maybe we'd understand more if we were born here, after all, everyone else seems to think they're letting evil into the camp." Geckopaw scoffed
"Hollowclan is full of liars," Rockstrike growled, "They won't even admit that they killed Goldenmoth."
"But Redstar said that they didn't kill her-"
"And you believe them?" Rockstrike cut off Butterflypaw and turned to look back at her. "Hollowclan is full of secrecy, Redstar just doesn't want to admit it." The tom turned his back to them and lead them to the border "Wait until you've been in Pineclan a bit longer before you can speak for them"
Butterflypaw and Geckopaw shared a look before silently following. Were they wrong? Eveningpaw was so nice when they met, surely she can't be the only cat in Hollowclan like that.
They reached the border and Butterflypaw's eyes lit up upon seeing Eveningpaw along with two other cats, obviously Hollowclan members.
She bounded alongside Rockstrike who seemed to be unamused by the idea of having HallowClan in his camp. She padded forward. "Eveningpaw!" she called out a greeting as she and the rest of the patrol reached the border.
Geckopaw's eyes were shining with admiration as she saw Eveningpaw. Rockstrike nodded a greeting to the cats on the patrol. I guess he's not going to be outright hostile to them.
Geckopaw's mentor, Streamhawk smiled. Meowing greetings to his friend in the other clan.
Eveningpaw smiled, "Hello Butterflypaw, Geckopaw" she greeted them and their mentors. Maplewatcher nodded at Streamhawk, happy to see his friend.
Duskmask just blinked at them and turned to face Eveningpaw, "If you have any troubles or questions, make sure to ask Mallowfeather'' Eveningpaw grinned, "I will" she turned to Pineclan's patrol. "I'm ready to go" and picked up her bundle of herbs.
Butterflypaw smiled, bouncing on her toes excitedly. She bounded across the dark green grass, the shade of the pines cool on her pelt. She leapt up on a tree, feeling a rush of energy.
She looked down and saw the rest of the patrol following after her. Eveningpaw, not used to the territory, was having trouble keeping up but she could still see the joy in the she-cat's eyes as she stumbled over the grass.
Butterflypaw leapt down from the tree, her eyes still shining. "We're so honored to have you here!" she purred, padding alongside Eveningpaw.
Eveningpaw smiled, "I'm happy to help in anyway I can" she glanced at Rockstrike who shot a cold look at her. "Though it seems like you're the only real one who seems to appreciate my help" she grumbled
She looked at Eveningpaw. "Hey it's okay! I'm sure others will be welcoming! Especially our sick cats." she meowed. She glanced at Rockstrike who's cold glare was piercing through her and Eveningpaw. "I promise!"
Eveningpaw shot the warrior a glare before huffing and turning back to Butterflypaw. "Thank you." She smiled at the warrior apprentice, the warmth in her gaze reaching her eyes. "Let's hurry to your camp. I want to get started so the illness doesn't spread"
"Yes, Of course." she mewed. She looked at Rockstrike, her mentor's cold gaze staring back at her. She nodded towards camp, trying to ask him to move faster. He sighed and charged forward, beckoning his patrol to go forward.
She gave a friendly smile to Eveningpaw. "I'm sure it'll be okay!" she meowed, "Mallowfeather will appreciate your help." She padded alongside her, her eyes warm and friendly, unlike the cold stares.
She couldn't help but think about how brave Eveningpaw was, She couldn't deny how much she admired the beautiful she-cat. She tripped over a root as she was lost in her thoughts, squealing in surprise she quickly got up, shaking the dirt out of her pelt.
Eveningpaw chuckled as she looked at Butterflypaw and picked out a leaf from Butterflypaw's fur. "Are you alright? I thought Pineclan was more graceful than that." She purred jokingly
"Y-Yeah!" Butterflypaw said, her pelt burning with embarrassment. Rockstrike snorted. "Yes, though I'm surprised a HallowClan cat would think of us as anything positive." he mewed, going through the ferns. Butterflypaw licked her fur down flat, she fluffed out her fur, making her look bigger than before. She padded through after him, beckoning Eveningpaw to come with her.
Eveningpaw rolled her eyes as she followed them through the ferns. "Though I admit we can be prideful at times. We still know your clan's strengths." Eveningpaw padded alongside them, "Just like how I'm sure you know we're good at being in tight spaces and undergrowths cause of our territory"
Butterflypaw sighed. "Just- Back off, she's a medicine cat apprentice, what harm can she do?" she said, an edge in her tone. His eyes flashed, as she said the words. "Watch how you speak with me, Butterflypaw." he said quietly as they entered camp.
Butterflypaw held her breath as Badgerstar padded forward. "Welcome, Eveningpaw." she let out a quiet sigh as he seemed grateful instead of hostile. "The medicine den is over there." he mewed, flicking his tail to a pile of rocks.
Eveningpaw glared at Rockstrike, before turning to Badgerstar, Butterflypaw could already tell she didn't like him. "I'll do my best for the couple days I'm here" the young medicine cat apprentice dipped her head in respect.
She looked over the camp a bit, too open for her taste, before heading over to the med den. "I'll see you around Butterflypaw!" She called out.
Butterflypaw smiled before heading back to the apprentice den. She sighed, turning to Rockstrike, who's eyes seemed to be blazing with fury. She gave him a pointed look.
She knew that he would be angry with her, but no one seemed to understand that Hollowclan was no threat. She sighed, padding to the apprentice den, tucking her head into her neck fluff.
When she sat down, Flurrypaw noticed her and began to ask, "How did it go? Hollowclan didn't do anything to you did they? And what about Eveningpaw? Is she here now?" Her denmate asked, her eyes shimmering with worry.
"Yes." Butterflypaw couldn't help but purr. "She's so brave and thoughtful and open-minded, I'm surprised no one likes her-" she was cut off by coughing. Flurrypaw turned behind her, still hacking and coughing. She quickly got up, trying to get Flurrypaw to the medicine den quickly as possible.
She neared the Medicine Den, Flurrypaw was leaning on her for support, coughing violently. Some Pineclan warriors noticed and went to go see what was happening. Streamhawk seemed especially eager to make sure his kit was alright. She looked at her old friend, then in the medicine den. "Hello?" her voice seemed to be drowned out by Flurrypaw's coughing.
Eveningpaw's eyes widen as she padded forward to help Flurrypaw into a nest. She gave the coughing cat the last of her herbs before nodding to Mallowfeather. "I'll go fetch us some more" she started heading out when she turned to Butterflypaw, "Can you help me? We're going to need to get a lot"
"Of course! Lead the way." she mewed, trying to rush out of the den. Not only did she not want to get sick, she didn't want her friend to die.
Her blue eyes showed genuine concern as she gazed over her sick clanmates. She saw a black and white cat gazing from afar. Badgerstar seemed worried, but his tall and muscular posture seemed to make her think that he was nothing but strong.
She always found a cat to admire, or to strive to be. She turned back to Eveningpaw. She smiled a bit, knowing that she was in good paws, she was sure of it.
