The room became silent as Pyrrha awkwardly waved at them. No one said anything until Yang gave the Amazon a fake smile. "Sup, Cereal-girl. What brings you to our neck of the woods?"
Pyrrha returned the smile. "As luck would have it, I need to speak to you Yang."
Immediately Yang's smile cracked.
"Why are you looking for me?" She asked.
Pyrrha averted her eyes. "It's a private matter."
She tilted her head outside the dorm. Yang hesitated before nodding and left the room, closing the door behind her.
RWB-NR looked at each other before deciding to sit around the book.
After a while Yang came back in, her eyes raging red.
"Yang?" Her sister called out her name. Yang, looked at Ruby and her eyes went back to lilac. "Are you ok?"
Yang looked at the other before nodding. "It is now, Rubes."
Weiss cocked and eyebrow. "What did she want?"
Yang turned to the resident ice-queen and sighed.
"She is hosting a party in town. Cardin, his team, Team CFVY, and Team SSSN will be there. She wanted me there to see if I can help out with keeping the party 'lively'" She gestured with her fingers.
The group looked at one another, before Yang scoffed. "I've been at a lot of bars and parties, and I can say one thing. Keeping a party lively is very hard to keep. However I know enough about CRDL to know this is a different kind of 'lively'. And I'm not going to it because I don't need to end up on the end of another man's leash."
The girls nodded. Ruby opened her mouth but Weiss stopped her. "This is something you should not dilly-dally in, Ruby. Leave it alone."
Ruby lowered her head and groaned. Weiss patted her back before Blake crossed her arms.
"So should we still refill up on snacks?" She asked. Yang's eyes lit up.
"Hell yeah." She puffed out her chest. "I wanna watch more of this show and I definitely need more beer."
She turned to Ruby. "And soda for you."
Ruby's whine became louder.
After setting up once more, Ruby grabbed her grape soda and began to open it when there was a knock on the door.
Weiss got up to open it to reveal Professor Glynda Goodwitch, the headmistress of Beacon.
"Ms Goodwitch." Weiss greeted the teacher. Glynda smiled.
"Ms Schnee, I've heard some reports that you..." she noticed Nora and Ren in the background. "...six are being very loud at this time of day. Ms Nikos assumed that you to are arguing so I came up to see what you are doing." She said. The girls giggled nervously before Blake grabbed a beer.
"We noticed a box deliver to us, with no return label. We opened it and saw that it was a book and a movie." The cat Faunus replied.
"Yeah! This one has Fearless Leader and Renny and that grey hair guy from Cinders team!" Nora butted in. The girls whirled to face the pink bomber when Glynda clear her throat.
"I'm sorry, but are you say that Mr Arc is a movie star, Ms Valkyrie?" The head mistress asked. Nora shook her head.
"Nope Ms G! We think he's in an alternate universe!" Nora said with confidence.
"Nora!" The girls shouted.
Nora, we don't know that." Weiss screeched. "All we know is that he's in it and it's not something that is in the history of Remnant."
She turned back to the headmistress. "To be honest, we don't know what it is. Just that the movie is entertaining enough for us to be this way. I apologize Ms Goodwitch."
Glynda looked at the girls as if troubled. But she gathers her thought and nodded. "Very well, but seeing as this involves a former member of you circle and because we received reports on his whereabouts which clearly does not coincide with this...I will watch it as well."
The girls hesitated but nodded. After all, who were they to deny the most badass woman in the school.
Glynda tapped a few things on her scroll before leaving to prepare. The girls sat down. One thing was on their mind.
What did Glynda mean when she said that this did not coincide with her reports?
After coming back in sweats and an black undershirt. Glynda was shown the beginning of the movie.
The headmistress was shock to see Jaune as the commander of the 20th Maine regiment and even more surprised to see the other men that held resemblance of Mr Lie and Mr Black. But having said that, she smiled proudly as she heard his speech to the men of the 2nd Maine. It seams the boy who she judge to be unfit to be at Beacon is the leader the Union will need in the coming fight.
The girls got set with their food and Blame started up the film.
The scene began to show another group coming in on horseback. They carried the Union flag across the field as words came up:
Buford's Federal Cavalry/ Outskirts of Gettysburg
Weiss grinned. "So now we get to see what the Union Cavalry does. All the horses are so elegant."
"Easy for you to say." Yang grumbled. "All I see are animals who make any place their toilet."
"Children, please." Glynda interrupted. Though she was eager to learn more about this 'Buford' character.
The scene changed to them in a patch of trees when they stopped when they reached a wooden fence. General Buford pulls out a pair of binoculars while his officer, Colonel Gamble watched a group of Confederate soldiers marching down the road in front of them.
Gamble: "That's infantry, all right. At least a whole brigade."
Buford lowered his binoculars and nodded.
Buford: "Any sign of cavalry?"
Gamble: "Not a lick, sir. That's strange. Infantry moving alone in enemy country, blind. Very strange, sir. What do you make of that?"
"It ain't good. That's what it is." Ruby commented. Glynda nodded.
"Isn't." Weiss corrected her team leader.
Buford: "He's headed this way."
Gamble: "Sir?"
Buford: "Lee's turned. That's the main body."
Gamble: "You think so? I thought they were going to Harrisburg."
Buford: "He was. That's too many troops to be a raiding party. There's power behind it."
"Wow." Yang said with a disappointed look. "I was expecting a better show of force than that."
"From a first glance, Ms Xiao-Long, you may be correct." Glynda replied. "However, you must never underestimate your enemy. This may be a small token, but if you look at the Union's reaction to this force, it's scary enough for them to send an entire army to meet them."
Yang nodded and the movie resumed.
Gamble: "Sir, if you want to fight here, this is such lovely ground. It's the best damn ground I've seen all day."
Buford: "It is that."
Buford look around at the fields around them and spoke.
Buford: "We'll move both brigades into town. That'll make the good citizens happy. Let's go down and have a look."
The Cavalry began to move forward at the sound of the buglers' call and began to ride alongside the fence in order to find a good area to set up.
"Whoa." Ruby pointed. "Look at that flag! It's red on top and white on the bottom."
Blake opened the book and showed them a picture of the flag. "It's the Troop Guidon flag. It's colors are said to be inspired by something known as the 'dragoon's.' I'll look them up but I never heard of that."
The girls nodded.
Meanwhile the 20th Maine continued to a town known as Taneytown, Maryland. As the drums and fife continued their song, the townspeople were watching the unit pass. Many were happy to see the unit while others looked curious as to why a Union Regiment is in their town.
Civilian: "Soldier, your shirt needs mending."
A woman was smiling as they passed her and a few others
Woman: "I thought the war was in Virginia."
"I can't tell if she's happy or being a douche to the 20th." Yang observed.
"If it's the latter, I'll be glad to break her legs." Nora cracked her knuckles. "No one disrespects the unit of Fearless Leader."
"Ms Valkyrie!" Glynda scolded."
Civilian: "What division are you boys with?"
Colonel Chamberlain came across a small patch of ground and rode his horse near it. Kilrain Approach just as Chamberlain got off.
Kilrain: "Colonel, do you mind?"
Chamberlain: "A good officer doesn't ride all day. I've been sitting too long anyway."
Just as he said this, Thomas rode up to him. As he stopped his horse, he jumped off.
Thomas: "What do you think? God almighty. What do you think?"
The girls were confused. What was Ren happy about. The boy in question especially wanted to know.
Chamberlain: "About what?"
Thomas: "About the 2nd Maine boys, what else?"
Chamberlain: "Are any of them going to join us?"
Thomas: "Would you believe it? All but six!"
"What?" The girls said with smiles on their faces.
"Now that's very good news." Ren grinned. "It's isn't much but it's a much better number to work with."
Weiss was especially shocked. "He did it." She murmured. "The crazy son of a bitch, he did it."
"LANGUAGE!" Ruby shoved the swear jar into Weiss lap.
Chamberlain: "What?"
Thomas: "I counted by actual vote. 114 voted to pick up the rifle."
Chamberlain: "Well, I'll be."
Glynda smiled. "It's seemed this world does need you, Mr Arc. I'm happy for you."
Thomas: "You did good, brother, real good!"
Chamberlain: "Good. See to it they march together."
Thomas: "Yes. Glazier's got the hardheads in tow. There are six."
Chamberlain: "Get the names. Put them in different companies. I want them spread out, not bunched together. I'll see about their muskets."
Thomas: "Colonel, sir."
Thomas saluted his brother and loved off while Chamberlain looked at a grinning Kilrain.
"That's the Spirit Jaune-Jaune!" Nora cheered. "Let no one deny your request for more daka!"
The rest of the girls stared at her.
"Should we be concerned?" Weiss asked Ren.
"Nora." Ren turned to his partner. "Did you drink coffee?"
"No Renny!"
"Ok"
"I took five hour energy."
Everyone froze. Even Goodwitch was staring at the pink bomber."
'Good gods, that's even worse!' She mentally screeched in her head
Lutheran Theological Seminary/ Gettysburg
The scene went back to Buford and his brigade who rode past a red brick building. They arrived at another location and dismounted. Buford and one officer, Colonel Devin walked forward to survey the battleground. After a while, GeneralBuford spoke up.
Buford: "You know what's happening here in the morning?"
Devin: "Sir?"
Buford nodded toward the open field in front of them.
Buford: "The whole damn rebel army is gonna be here. They'll move through this town, occupy the hills on the other side. When our people arrive, Lee'll have high ground. There'll be the devil to pay. The high ground!"
The General moved forward, Devin in tow.
Buford: "Meade will come in slowly, cautiously, new to command. They'll be on his back from Washington. Wires hot with messages. Attack! Attack!"
Buford stopped and grimaced.
Buford: "So he will set up a ring around these hills. And when Lee's army is nicely entrenched behind fat rocks on the high ground…Meade will finally attack, if he can coordinate the army. Straight up the hillside, out in the open…in that gorgeous field of fire."
While Blake and Yang understood what the General was implying, Ruby, Weiss, and Glynda were more concerned with the outcome. The way the General put it. Lee was right. General Meade was indeed cautious. And Buford knew that more likely, the Union will be put in an immediate disadvantage if this happened.
'If only Jaune was in charge of the Army.' Ruby thought. 'Maybe he would have kept this as a simple rebellion, not a war.'
Buford: "We will charge valiantly and be butchered valiantly. And afterward, men in tall hats and gold watch fobs will thump their chest…and say what a brave charge it was."
"Well, I'll give the man this much," Yang chimed. "He's willing to go forth with this plan."
"Yeah. He seems more like he's happy to lay his life down." Blake nodded.
Buford: "Devin, I've led a soldier's life…and I've never seen anything as brutally clear as this. It's as if I can actually see the blue troops in one long bloody moment…going up the long slope to the stony top…as if it were already done…and already a memory. An odd, set…stony quality to it. As if tomorrow has already happened and there's nothing you can do about it. The way you sometimes feel before an ill-considered attack…knowing it will fail…but you cannot stop it. You must even take part and help it fail."
The girls felt sympathy for the General's assessment. To him this was a losing fight.
"What's your assessment of this, Ms Rose?" Glynda asked the reaper who 'eep'
Ruby looked at the battleground and after a moment shook her head. "I would yank the troops back, and use the woods for better concealment and cover. Build up a solid defense, and try to create a pincer movement. That's what I would do, but if I had this small a group against an entire army…."
The reaper shook her head once more. "I would be delaying an inevitable outcome, my troops would be destroyed, and I probably would be captured. I can't see a good solution here, Ms Goodwitch."
Glynda nodded. "That's good Ms Rose. Remember children, when you pick your battles, do your best to pick them on your ground, not theirs."
The girls nodded and the movie resumed.
Buford: "We have 2500 men. They'll be coming in force. There could be 20,000 coming down that road in the morning. If we hold this ridge for a couple of hours, we can keep them away. We can block that road until our main body gets here. We can deprive the enemy of the high ground!"
Ruby and Weiss nodded. "That's a bold plan but in a 10 to 1 fight, I think they can hold them." The white haired girl said thoughtful.
Devin: "The boys are ready for a brawl. No doubt of that."
Buford: "We'll force the reb to deploy. That's a narrow road they'll be coming down. If we stack them up, it will take them a while to get on track to get into position."
Buford turned back to his other officers.
Buford: "Is Calef's battery up yet?"
Officer: "His six guns are deploying now."
"A battery!" Nora grinned. "Now that's some real firepower. Probably buy them some time there."
"Oooh I can't wait to see those puppies in action." Yang laughed.
Buford: "How far back is Reynolds with the main force?"
Officer: "About 10 miles, sir. Not much more."
Colonel Gamble rode up to the officers as the Bugler announced his arrival. Getting off his horse, Gamble saluted Buford.
Gamble: "Sir, you were right. My scouts report the rebel army is coming this way for sure. They're all concentrating in this direction."
Buford pondered this information as he looked back out to the field.
Buford: "We'll hold here in the morning. Long enough for Reynolds and the Infantry to arrive. If we hang on to the high ground, we have a chance…to win this fight that's coming. Understood?"
Officers: "Yes, sir."
Buford: "Post the cannon along this road, the Chambersburg Pike. The rebels will hit us at dawn. I think we can hold them at least a couple hours."
Devin: "Hell, General, we can hold them all the livelong day."
Officer: "He's right, sir."
"Never hold doubt in your heart." Ren nodded. "If you think you can win this fight, then you will."
"Yes!" Nora grinned once more. "Show the Rebs the true power of the Blues!"
Devin: "At Thoroughfare Gap, you held against Longstreet. You held for six hours."
Gamble: "They never came. We held for nothing."
"Sheesh." Yang rolled her eyes. "What a Debbie Downer."
Buford: "The rebs will hit us just about first light. Keep a clear eye. Have the pickets give us a good warning."
Buford turned back toward his men and nodded.
Buford: "All right, gentlemen. Let's get posted."
The Brigade began to set up their defenses as they waited for the Confederate forces to converge on the morning.
Later, Buford writes a letter to be sent to General Reynolds
Buford: "General Reynolds, my troops are deployed on good ground…west of Gettysburg on the Chambersburg Pike. I've sent reconnaissance parties in every direction…from which the enemy might be approaching. I'm satisfied A.P. Hill's corps is massed just west of here…back of Cashtown. The enemy's pickets are within four miles of my position. Rumor says Ewell's coming over the mountains from Carlisle. If true, two Confederate corps will converge upon us in the morning. One from the west and one from the north. Do you want me to hold this position if attacked? Confirmation requested. J.N.O. Buford."
Glynda grabbed another soda and pushed her glasses up. Bufords ability to see the benefits of a battleground is impressive. But she felt even more scared for the fight that Jaune will find himself in. As the next scene came in, she found herself hoping that her student was not there yet...
...Because something told her that this was not going to be a good beginning for the Union.
Hope you enjoy.
