"Here we are," Mrs. Swimmer said as she parked the stroller near a tree. 2 year old Gil squirmed around his seat, for he couldn't wait to play at the playground.
"Now, have fun, sweetie," the light-haired mother said as she let her son out of his stroller. "And stay where I can see you."
Taking with him his stuffed puppy, little Gil ran down the hill towards the playground. He decided to go play in the sandbox. So there he went.
Gil wanted to build a sand castle for his little stuffed puppy. It keep falling over, but that's okay, because Gil just kept on trying. He had a lot of fun playing in the sand when suddenly, he saw her.
A small Guppy, around his age, approached the sandbox. She had brown skin, a swirly blue tail and a bikini top to match. Her soft, pink hair had a little blue bow on it. You might be able to guess who that little girl was...
Gil was very nervous around kids he doesn't know, so he quickly left the sandbox, dropping his puppy in the process, and hid under slide. He nervously took a peek at the pink-haired girl. He saw her pick up his stuffed puppy before she slowly approached him.
"Hewwo," she greeted him.
"Hi," Gil said rather quietly.
The little mergirl swam a little closer to him. "Wanna pway?" she asked.
Gil thought about for a moment. The girl seem friendly enough. So he swam towards her, still a little nervous. She handed him back his stuffed puppy and this is what he said to her: "Arf! Arf!"
It was Gil's way of telling her that he wanted to play with her. He laughed out loud, and soon, the little girl laughed along with him. The two had hit it off way sooner than you would expect. They started a playing a game of tag. They had a lot of fun, until...
"Oof!" Little Gil tripped on a rock and fell while trying to tag the girl, scrapping his tail. "Ow! Ow! Ow..." he cried out loud, tears running down his cheeks.
The pink-haired Guppy swam over to him. "You okay?" she asked him. Gil shook his head "no" and pointed to his injury. Poor Gil couldn't stop crying. He looked around for his mom, but she was no where to be seen.
Just then, the blue-haired toddler heard someone humming. He turned around and saw that the girl was singing a beautiful song. Hearing her sing calmed him a little, his cries becoming sniffles. And then she gave him a big hug.
"It be okay," she said to him. Gil gave the girl a small smile.
The girl then handed him his puppy and helped him up. She took the boy to a dark-haired man who was reading a book on a picnic table.
"Daddy, Daddy!" she called to him.
The man looked from his book and asked, "Is everything okay, sweetie?"
The girl pointed to Gil's tail and said, "He got boo-boo."
"Well then, let's take a look, shall we?" the man said as he closed his book and lifted the blue-head onto the picnic table. Gil felt a little scared, so he squeezed his puppy very tightly.
The man cleaned off the scrape, and then put a fresh, clean bandage on it. His daughter then blew a kiss on the boo-boo. "There, all better!" he said to Gil.
Gil smiled. His boo-boo was all better, thanks to his new friend who then started hugging him. And this time, he returned that hug. The two were still hugging when Gil's mother arrived.
"There you are, my silly little boy!" she exclaimed. "It's time to go home for your nap."
"Me no want nap," Gil said with a yawn, which made the girl giggle.
"We can come back here later on today. Okay, Gil?" Mrs. Swimmer said as she picked up her blue-haired toddler, the little stuffed puppy still in his hand. "Okay..." he said.
"Come on, Molly," the man said to his daughter. "It's time for us to go home, too." Molly pouted, but she obeyed. He put her on to her stroller and waved goodbye to Gil's mother. The two Guppies did the same for each other. They were both very sad to leave so soon.
"Bye-bye, Mowwy," Gil said to her.
"Bye-bye, Gilly," Molly said to him.
As he rode home in his stroller, little Gil though about his new friend and wondered if they'll ever meet again. With one last thought of the girl and his little stuffed puppy in hand, he drifted slowly off into dreamland. When they returned home, Mrs. Swimmer carried her sleeping son into the house.
