Chapter 4
After lunch, the team begun their preparations for monitoring the two Inuyasha had thrown a fit and complained that it would be a waste of time and they had to get going to find the pearl maker or better yet, Naraku. That is until Kagome had told him that they should repay the Hiraganas for taking care of Kin'u. He scoffed and reluctantly backed down. Even though it was the inexperienced parents that should take full responsibility for losing their child, he guess that he was slightly responsible too as he was the one who usually kept an eye out for the team. He was slightly taken aback at how he didn't even notice that girl sneak away and decided that on some level he owed the Hiraganas for keeping Kin'u safe.
"I guess since that the houshi and I are the only two with spiritual powers, we will lead the two different teams."the haraiya said as she stood on the opposite side of Miroku.
Miroku looked at the haraiya with a skeptical smile, "with spiritual powers?"
"I want to be on the same team with father!" Kin'u exclaimed as she dashed off towards Miroku.
Kagome let out a conspiring smile and tugged on Inuyasha's arm while carrying Shippo in her arms, "I think we should stay with haraiya samma."
"But I don't want to team up with Inuyasha!" Shippou argued as he struggled in Kagome's arms.
"Let the little family spend some time together." Kagome chuckled as she looked at the little family of three, "besides, I think Miroku samma and Sango chan have a lot to talk about."
Inuyasha scoffed at that and Shippo leaped up onto Kagome's shoulder, "I'm still going to show you that I can catch that demon with my powers!"
"Yeah, yeah" Inuyasha replied with a shrug as he entered the room prepared for them.
That was how the team was sorted, with two families of three and one haraiya.
"What's on your mind, Sango?" Miroku asked as he set down his cup of tea, looking at the taijiya who was still looking at Kin'u in deep thought.
"It's surreal," Sango replied as she looked at Kin'u and Hiroshi chase a butterfly through the field, "that that little girl could be ours. That we actually have a chance at a future."
Miroku nodded as he flexed the fingers on his cursed hand, his left hand trailing absentmindedly on the cloth that covered the cursed hole on his hand,"Sango, have you heard of the phrase hu tian ri(sun) yue(moon)?"
"hu tian ri yue?" Sango asked.
"It's the ultimate happiness that Daoists seek," Miroku explained, "a serene life, one with no fear, war nor pain."
"That sounds like a relaxing life." Sango exhaled dreamily as she thought of it.
"It is a teaching that is constant throughout my training, but one I had believed difficult to achieve," Miroku smiled as he focused his eyes on Sango's, "but I think we managed to find it."
"you think so?"Sango asked with a blush.
"I know so." Miroku answered, "because we have ri(sun) yue(moon) ru huai?"
"ri yue ru hei?" Sango asked with a tilt of her head.
"the promise of wonderful children in our future." Miroku replied as he looked at Kin'u, "both of these phrases have moon and sun in them. Goyatsu stands for moon and Kin'u stands for sun."
"You've given their names a lot of thought."Sango smiled as she redirected her attention back to Kin'u, "they also stand for jade and gold, don't they?"
Miroku chuckled, "I see that we managed to keep your family tradition of naming children, coral, amber, jade and gold, now I feel like an outsider."
Sango let out a tiny chuckle as she laid her head down on Miroku's shoulder.
"Seeing Kin'u gave me hope and determination for a future that I didn't know I would have the chance to live," Miroku smiled as he hugged Sango's shoulder. "Let's build that life together, Sango."
Sango let out a tiny smile before looking down and fidgeting with her fingers in concern, trying to figure out the best way to phrase out her question.
"Sango?" Miroku asked noticing her unease.
"I'm worried houshi samma," Sango replied, "I am at lost as to how to act as a mother as my mother had passed when I was fairly young and I never had a mother figure in my life. I'm worried that I will fail Kin'u." She clenched her fist tighter, "the fact that I wasn't able to protect her from this green pearl that sent her here-"
"Sango-"
"What if I'm a terrible mother?"Sango choked.
"Sango," Miroku spoke up once again, gathering her attention, "from my meetings with numerous villagers throughout my journey, I've come to learn that no one is ever really prepared enough to be a parent. I only had Mushin samma as a parent figure growing up and I worry too about how I will take up the role as a father, but I believe we will both have each other's back through this battle like all battles we have been through. As for th green pearl, I think that there is something suspicious regarding it."
"Something does feels off and I can't pinpoint it."Sango nodded as she furrowed her brows together, "my instincts tell me that the pearl was part of a plan."
Miroku frowned as he rubbed his chin, "perhaps we can try and ask if Kin'u remembers more of how she came in contact with the green pearl or the circumstance to see if the green pearl was deliberately left there for her to find."
Author's Note: Kin'u's name meant gold bird and Goyatsu's name means jade rabbit. I've found that these two phrases that often used in Chinese idioms and phrases so I did some research on it. Kin'u symbolizes the sun, and Goyatsu, the moon. These two phrases are often used to say that time has flew by quickly or that something is very treasured. Since they are twins and their names are respectively the sun and the moon, I went digging a little deeper into some of the teachings in Doaism and Buddhism that were popular in Japan and China and looked for phrases that had the moon(yue) and sun(ri) in it. One of it was Hu Tian Ri Yue which means well basically what Miroku said. Ri Yue Ru Huai is a phrase that means giving birth to a precious child for when a mother dreamt of a sun or a moon it means that the child they are carrying is destined for great things.
Sorry for the long Author's note, I was just so taken aback by how much thought Sensei Rumiko Takahashi put into the twin's name that I started to ramble! I hope it makes sense :)
