CHAPTER 4

GOOSEFIRE

The six Brady kids, now known as the Power Rangers were both shocked and appalled at the figure before them.

"You?!" Again Jan repeated the question as her eyes could not accept what they were seeing. This enemy they were warned about, was none other than Alice, their housekeeper!

"How is this possible?" Jan asked again. Alice replied, "I have lived, conquered and destroyed for tens of thousands of your years. I came to Earth knowing full well that Zordon was here and would at some point try to form a team against me. I was led to the Brady family where I became the housekeeper; when you have lived as long as me, 5 or 10 years means nothing! But then they met you and I sensed a linking of power; then I knew to keep aware of the six of you. When I noticed your clothing change color recently, I knew you had become Power Rangers! You will notice you are all restrained from using your changers, and the youngest cannot speak, since their powers are more dangerous."

"How could you tell just from clothing changes?" Peter asked.

"All Rangers are drawn in some form to their uniforms." Vind replied. "Little Cindy in her yellow dress, the mediator and healer chained at her wrists and ankles will be pulled apart; Bobby in his purple shirt, cunning and loyal, trapped on the spinning wheel to be destroyed; Jan in her black pants and shirt, clearly the artist, and Peter in his blue shirt, the thinker seeking answers; both of you chained to the wall; Marcia in her pretty green dress who walks the path of shadow, and Greg in red, clearly the warrior and leader; both of you are restrained by cuffs with a bar which allows no 'give' for movement." With those words, the being they had know as Alice left the room.

Bobby's wheel began to spin faster and faster while Cindy's chains pulled her upward while the restraints on her ankles pulled her downward. The 4 elder Brady kids watched as their youngest sibling were being torn apart.

That was when it happened: "DORON CHANGER!" It shocked them all. They watched, entranced, as the purple blur on the wheel, by now definitely a blur, drew his sword and shorted the wheel's mechanism. After the wheel stopped, the Purple Ranger held up a hand to forestall questions. They saw his right hand was free, but his left hand and both feet were still shackled to the wheel.

After a few moments he retrieved the blade and cut himself free. He approached Cindy first and with one swipe cut her wrists free; with the tension gone she folded over Bobby's shoulder. "I was using my mind to block out the pain; I wouldn't have lasted much longer." "Take a moment to recover," he replied , "then morph."

Moments later, Cindy raised a small black box and thumbed a switch on the side. As she did, she cried "DORON CHANGER!" With the morphin power coursing through her she felt better. The Purple and Yellow Rangers approached Peter and Jan chained to the wall and through skillful use of the blade were able to free them. These two proceeded to expose their wrist- mounted devices. Holding their left arms upright they each inserted the connectors and cried out, "AURA CHANGER!" With that they changed into the Blue and Black Rangers. Approaching Greg and Marcia, the Ninja saw, instead of chains, the restraints were connected by a solid bar to limit their movement. Even the swords had no effect. Bobby grabbed Marcia and rolled her, face down telling Cindy to do the same with Greg. Telling Peter and Jan to guard the door, Bobby pulled a pin out of Marcia's hair. "Are you kidding?" she asked. He replied, "When all else fails." He gave Cindy a second pin to work on Greg's cuffs, and surprisingly, the were able to pick the locks!

"Ready Marcia?" called her brother. "Ready." came the reply. Greg replied, "It's Morphin Time!"

Marcia withdrew the morpher and called, "Dragonzord!", to which Greg replied "Tyrannosaurus!"

Now that all 6 were powered up they easily escaped and located the President. The President wasn't sure who they were, but was grateful for the rescue.

On the beach, before they could contact Zordon and teleport to safety, they were attacked by her minions. They knew she had watched too much earth tv because the minions were yellow, looking decidedly like a Twinkee with arms and legs. The Rangers went into battle warning the President to stay clear of the battle.

Then it happened: Vind grew into a monster. Greg summoned the Tyrannosaurus with Peter's Unicorn and Cindy's Bear basically becoming boots; Jan's Basilisk becoming chest armor and Bobby's Chameleon becoming arms; Marcia summoned her Dragonzord which became a second suit of armor.

The battle between them was fierce using such energies as Earth had never witnessed. Vind fired blast after blast and finally in a last effort, the Rangers linked to their zords and fired a counter-blast which saw the conqueror collapse. The Rangers returned to the beach to collect the President and return home but in a monstrous blast, it was over.

EPILOGUE

"How long has she been like this?" asked Jan. "Every since we arrived." was Peter's reply. The "she" was Cindy, who today wore a yellow shirt and a purple scarf around her neck; it was also Bobby's birthday. "I never guessed how close those two were." said Marcia in a depressed state. Cindy sat on the beach, away from the others, and relived the last moments.

The fight was over and they were victorious, but Vind still had a small amount of power left and struck out at the Yellow Ranger. At the last instant the air shimmered! Using his chameleon power, Bobby had watched and waited. When Vind fired on Cindy, he appeared and took the full blast; fortunately the blast was too weak to destroy all the Rangers but it could kill one.

When Bobby hit the ground, Cindy held him in her arms and de-morphed with the elder siblings forming a ring around them. President Ford moved back some to give them some privacy; it would be several years before he learned that the brave man dying was little more than a boy. Zordon, seeing the folly of selecting a family to serve as a Ranger team, withdrew the Powers and the President worked to cover up what happened. Cindy mourned Bobby every year on his birthday
