Chapter 4: The first shift

It was finally dark outside, Helena was about to leave for work. She would take the place of Dudley who had almost finished his shift. Helena placed her earbuds in her ears and pressed play on her discman, she listened to "It's A Kind Of Magic" from Queen the entire way to work. She entered the parking lot of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. The place looked very aery in the dark, and the fact that there was no soul in sight wasn't helping. With a deep sigh she made her way inside, it was dark and abandoned, just the spotlights of the stages were on, which was weird since at least Dudley was supposed to be there.

"H-Hello? Dudley... where are you?"; Helena asked as she felt someone watching her. She was about to turn around as suddenly...

"Boo!"

Helena screamed and fell on the floor, it took her a minute to figure out wat was happening. Dudley stood in front of her, laughing and Afton came out of the kitchen also laughing. Afton walked to Dudley and they gave each other a high five.

"Got you"; Dudley smirked as he gave Helena a hand to pull her back to her feet.

Afton continued; "And how, i hope you are a little braver at night Helena. You will need it for your job."

Helena didn't say a word but she gave a suspicious glance to Afton. He noticed it and in a response he threw his hands in the air to look innocent and left the dining area to go get his stuff so he could go home. Dudley did the same, he wished Helena a good night and went home. Afton came back with his stuff, he was about to go outside as he looked at Helena with that creepy smile of his; " You will get a phone call with the instructions of your shift. Good luck". And with that Everyone but Helena had left the building.

She was all alone in an old damaged pizza place, she looked at the animatronics. " well, almost alone"; Helena sighed. She made her way to the security office and threw her jacket and backpack with midnight snacks in the corner of the office. She walked up to the desk, there was; a uniform, a security badge, safety shoes and a belt with a taser and flashlight. There was also a note that read:

Hello my dear,

Before you lies the "Freddy Fazbear security uniform".

By standards of the safety protocoll, Fazbear entertainment provides you with the right tools to perform your job.

You are required to wear the uniform throughout the shift and each shift, for your own safety and to be in order with insurance if an incident should ever occur.

With best regards,

William Afton

Helena stared for like five minutes at the uniform. First thing she did was checking the office for camera's, last thing she wanted was that creep of an Afton guy watching her being naked while changing into the uniform. To her relief there were none in the office. Helena started with the dark blue pants and the purple shirt with the bear head on the back , it looked almost identical to the clothing that Afton wore all the time. She attached the badge to her chest and then put on the security belt followed by the safety shoes.

Fully dressed Helena tied her hair in a ponytail and made her way to the toilets, as she passed the dining area she looked at the animatronics and could have sworn that she saw the bear with the hat staring at her, but at the speed of a blink, Freddy was facing the right direction again. Helena shrugged it off and thought she imaged things, though she had to admit, she felt uneasy from the first time she had laid eyes on the animatronics.

She stood in front of the mirror, curious how the uniform looked on her. Helena thought the security outfit made her look tough. She nodded and made her way to the office, but as she entered the dining area she froze. Right there in the middle of the dinging area, stood the purple bunny, it was facing the camera at the stage it hadn't noticed her yet. She slowly took a few steps back not daring to break eye contact with the rabbit, but accidently walked up the wall instead of the doorway. This startled her so hard that she accidentally let out a yelp.

The purple rabbit had noticed it and slowly turned its head toward the source of the yelp. The sound that the movement produced was sickening, it sounded like two rusty pieces of metal scraping over each other, and the breaking of... bones? Why would there be bones in a robotic rabbit? It was silent, the rabbit was now staring right in the eyes of Helena who was cowering against the wall at this point, tears formed in her eyes and sweat dripped down her forehead. They stayed like that for like five minutes.

Again Helena could hear the sounds of scraping metal and breaking bones, to her horror, the rabbit was moving towards her, rising it's arms, making the gesture that it wanted to grab her. The animatronic was so heavy that it actually made a thump every time it took a step.

"How did i not hear it move, while i was in the bathroom?"; she asked herself as she pulled herself together and made her way to the bathroom stalls, locking herself in one of them. She could hear the rabbit entering the female bathroom where she was hiding.

"H-H-Hello boys and g-girls, it's time to p-p-play"; The robot beamed.

Helena her eyes went wide as she saw over the stall wall that the rabbit was opening all the doors of the stalls; "That thing can talk?"

The rabbit had clearly heard her as it made its way toward Helena's bathroom stall. Helena sat cowering on the toilet and felt a knot form in her stomach as she realized what the animatronic rabbit was doing. There was the sound of machinery and moving gears as the shadow of the robot became bigger and the hands of the rabbit were placed on the floor. That thing was bending over to look underneath the door into the stall she was hiding in. Helena closed her eyes and held her hands in front of her mouth to silence her sound of breathing as her heart was racing and her body was glowing orange again, at the point the big robotic eyes reached the bottom of the stall there was an orange flash and the echo of a scream followed by nothingness and silence.

When Helena opened her eyes again, she found herself sitting back in the security office, she had teleported. "Thank god, i trained my magic before we came to this place". She clicked on both buttons to lock both doors. Since both doors were locked she made her way to the desk, there was a tablet on the desk, with it she could see the footage of the security camera's. Helena's heart skipped a beat as she saw that another animatronic was standing in the dining area, it was the chicken.

"oh great, as if i didn't already have my hands full with the bunny"; Helena whined.

Suddenly the telephone on the desk started to ring, Helena answered the phone without taking her eyes of the screen.

"Hello? Hello, hello! Uh, Afton asked me to call you, get you settled in on your first night. Um, I actually worked in that office before you, so...I know it can be a little overwhelming, but i'm here to tell you: there's nothing to worry about, uhh, you'll do fine! So...let's just focus on getting you through your first week. Ok? Uh...let's see. First there's an introductory greeting from the company i'm supposed to read. Eeh it's kind of a legal thing, you know. 'Welcome to Freddy Fazbear's Pizza: a magical place for kids and grown-ups alike, where fantasy and fun come to life. Fazbear entertainment is not responsible for damage to property or person. Upon the discovery of the damage or death has occurred, a missing person's report will be filed within ninety days or as soon as property and premise have been thoroughly cleaned and bleached and the carpets have been replaced. Blah, blah, blah.' Now that might sound bad, I know, but there's really nothing to worry about! Uhh, the animatronic characters here do get a bit quirky at night, but do I blame them? No! If I were forced to sing...those same stupid songs for twenty years and I never got a bath? I'd probably be a bit irritable at night too. So remember: these characters hold a special place in the hearts of children and you need to show them a little respect. Right? Ok. So..."

"...Hello, who is this?"; Helena interrupted.

" Huh, what? Oh right i haven't introduce myself, have i? I'm sorry, it's just that i know you need to focus right now, i wanted to do things quickly. The name is Mike Schmidt"; the phone guy replied.

"Well, Mike Schmidt...WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!"; Helena started to panic.

"...I was getting to that, missy. Jesus, newbies these days...so inpatient. As i was saying before you so rudely interrupted me, ahum...so just be aware: the characters do tend to wander a bit. Uhh, they're left with some kind of 'free-roaming mode' at night. Uhhh...

"FREE-ROAMING MODE MY ASS! That bunny thing chased me to the girls bathroom, it was checking every stall to find me and because my stall door was locked, it started to bend over to look underneath the door to see if i was there... THAT , MIKE SCHMIDT... IS NOT... I REPEAT... NOT SOME COMPUTERPROGRAM, THAT THING IS SENTIENT!"; Helena exploded at this point.

It stayed silent for a while.

Mike sighed; "I Knew i wasn't as good as the last phone guy. I warned Afton this wasn't going to work. I didn't even want to be a part of this. Studied all his lines for nothing...".

"Excuse me, but if self-pity hour is over, do you think you would find the time to help me with the, uhhhh, i don't know, THE FREAKING ROBOTIC KILLERBAND"; Helena interrupted again.

"Look, Missy? ... YOU ARE ONE RUDE LITTLE GIRL, you can't just keep interrupting people like that and please stop yelling like that, you're gonna rupture my eardrum"; Mike replied

"Oh I'm sorry, i didn't want to hurt your eardrums, but hey at least you're not about to be KILLED!"; Helena answered with a sarcastic tone.

"Okay, okay, take it easy. I know you're stressed right now, but being a smart guy is not going to help you. Look i know you have questions and i will be more than happy to answer them, later today at my house, which is at 1151 Williams Avenue. But for now i REALY need to explain things to get you to survive the night. The thing is, that these characters...uhh, if they happen to see you after hours, they'll probably try to...forcefully stuff you inside a Freddy Fazzbear suit. Um, Now that wouldn't be so bad if the suits themselves weren't filled with crossbeams, wires and animatronic devices especially around the facial area. So, you could imagine having your head forcefully pressed inside one of those could cause a bit of discomfort... and death. Uh, the only parts of you that would likely see the light of day again would be your eyeballs and teeth when they pop out the front of the mask, heh. Y-yeah they don't tell you these things when you sign up. But hey, check those cameras, remember to close the doors only if absolutely necessary. Gotta conserve power".

Helena her eyes went wide as she looked at the battery icon; "Oh, now you tell me, both doors have been locked this entire time mister talkative".

"shit...don't panic, what time is it and how much energy do you have left?"

"It's 2 am and i have 37% battery left"; Helena replied.

"I'm not gonna lie... Your battery is not gonna make it through the night. Look, from this point on, you only close the doors if absolutely necessary, and by that i mean, if one of the animatronics is about to step inside of your office, kind of necessary. If you do this, the battery should hold out till 5 am, after that I'm afraid you will have to be smart, stealthy and creative. I hope you make it, if you do I'll expect you at my house at 1 pm to explain things. Success". And with that Mike had hung up.

Helena hung up her phone as well and opened the doors; "come on Helena, you have faced a troll, a giant three headed dog, dementors, merpeople, dragons and even Voldemort. Surely, you can handle some killing animatronics".

She did exactly as mike had instructed her, fortunately, the bear and the fox didn't seem to move that night and just as mike had predicted the battery died at 5 am. The rabbit was in the utility closet and the chicken was in the dining area.

"Okay, nice robotic critters, be good little animatronics and stay where you are"; Helena whimpered

As if taunting her, the chicken moved closer, towards the kitchen. Time seemed to crawl, but the animatronics didn't seem to move anymore. Eventually the shift was almost over, Helena had five more minutes, five more minutes to survive. She was starting to relax as her shift neared its end. It was just like the animatronics could sense this because, the moment she relaxed, the rabbit and the chicken came each down a hallway, closer to the security office, closer to where she was.

Before Helena knew what had happened, the rabbit and chicken were standing in both the doorways. Helena her heart was racing, sweat running down her face and her breathing was accelerated. One more minute, sixty seconds, that's all she needed to end her shift. That's all she needed to survive, but she was fairly certain those animatronics wouldn't give her sixty seconds. The animatronics started to make their move inside as Helena had an idea. She was a witch, she could teleport, move objects with her mind but most importantly create energetic shields. Helena created two of said shields, just big enough to fit perfectly in the door openings, blocking the animatronics out of the office.

It took a lot of Helena's energy to keep the shields up and the fact that the rabbit and the chicken were both slamming their fists on the shields wasn't helping either. Cracks appeared on the shields, those robots were strong, it was only a matter of seconds before the shields would give way, but a few seconds was all she needed.

She watched the animatronics as they kept pounding on the shields, when she heard a noise, it came from the animatronic rabbit. First there was staticky noise, but as Helena listened closer, she could hear a voice trough the static, it was faint; "Please, help us, free us".

The shields busted into little shards of energy, that fell into thin air. Helena couldn't tell if it was because she was in shock of hearing the voice or if the animatronics where just too strong, but it didn't matter, the shields were gone and the animatronics were free to come inside of the office. Fortunately, the animatronics didn't move, Helena heard a group of children cheer, it was a signal to inform her that her shift was over. The animatronics made their way back to the stage and went back into their position as if they hadn't moved the entire night.
