Standing on the floor next to Lucas' bed, Toon Link looked up at the calendar above his bunk as Pit once again changed his sheets. So far he had 3 rain clouds on the night section, including this morning's new one, with one "partially cloudy" night as well. His daytime section was fully sunny, minus one humiliating rain cloud and an asterisk on yesterday's sun sticker, put there by Pit who refused to believe Toon Link's wet pants were caused by Squirtle.
"Don't worry," Popo said, crawling out of his own bunk across the room. "There's 3 more days left in the week, if you try really hard I bet you can still end up with 4 dry nights and 5 dry days!"
"Thanks," Toon Link said awkwardly before quickly doing the math in his head. "Six dry days!" he corrected Popo. "Yesterday's didn't count!"
"Right…" Popo said, not entirely convinced. The whole cabin had seen Toon Link come back yesterday evening, soaked from the bottom of his tunic to his shoes and looking like he could fall asleep at any second.
Toon Link grumbled to himself as Pit climbed down the ladder and told him, "Come on, let's get your day clothes and get you in the shower."
"K…" Toon Link said, following Pit to the hamper. He hated standing around in soaked PJ's, but he also felt bad about leaving Pit to clean up after his mess without him.
As Pit deposited the wet sheets in the hamper, he asked Toon Link, "Hey, you've got the day free right?"
"Yeah…?" Toon Link said. He indeed had no matches scheduled for the next couple of days.
"Great!" Pit said. "I was wondering, after your shower would you mind helping me with a few errands?"
"Sure!" Toon Link said excitedly. He was a good kid, happy to help and happy to hang out with Pit. Besides, he owed Pit for all the help he'd been giving him lately.
"Awesome! Hurry up then cuss we got a long day ahead of us," Pit said, thinking his plan would go swimmingly. If Toon Link had known exactly why Pit was bringing him along, however, he would have certainly tried to get out of it.
o-o-o-o-o
Toon Link sat on a dryer, awkwardly kicking his legs absentmindedly as Pit put his wet sheets in the washer for cleaning. For whatever reason Toon Link had never made the connection that it was Pit who had to wash his sheets every morning. He didn't know who would if not for his older angel friend, but he really never thought of it.
"Would you…" he started, hesitantly, "...want me to learn how to use the washer? That way I can help out, I mean…"
"Don't worry about it," Pit said, adding soap carefully so as to not make another huge mess in the laundry room. "As cabin leader it is my job to make sure you all have clean sheets and clothes so you guys can fight to the best of your abilities!"
"But you don't wash Lucas and Blue's laundry," Toon Link pointed out.
"Well they're a bit older than you and Popo," Pit answered.
Toon Link didn't argue. The age differences didn't mean a ton considering Nintendo characters aged differently, but something about his size and style made people naturally treat him younger. He'd sort of gotten used to it.
Once the machine was running, Pit walked over to Toon Link and picked him up by the armpits to lift him off the dryer and onto the floor. Just as they were getting ready to leave, Daisy entered the room with her own laundry.
"Oh, hello again Pit," the brunette princess in the yellow dress said with a big smile, finding an unused machine to start loading her stuff into. "Nice to see you again. Oh, and I see you brought Toon Link this time."
Toon Link gave a shy little wave as Pit answered, "Yup, we're doing some chores today. Figured I'd drop by with his laundry while we were out."
"Oh I see," she said. She gave a pitying glance at Toon Link. "You poor dear, maybe you should try letting Pit wake you up to use the potty again?"
"Potty?!" Toon Link spat out angrily, surprised that Daisy knew. He was about to yell at her, deny everything, when his gaze rose up to Pit, who looked like he already knew he was in for a tongue lashing. "Piiiiiiiiiit!" he whined.
"I'm sorry!" Pit said, putting both his hands out toward Toon Link to apologize. "She kept seeing your wet sheets in the hamper, I didn't want her to think they were mine!"
"You should have said you spilled something on your bed!" Toon Link shot back.
Daisy giggled, despite herself. She wanted to tell Toon Link that no one would buy that, but she figured she'd already said too much. "It's okay," she offered instead, stopping the argument between the two boys. "Plenty of kids have accidents. Lady Palutena told me it's a miracle Pit managed to get dry at all."
"You blabbermouth!" Pit shouted at the sky, angry Palutena had done to him exactly what he'd done to Toon Link.
This seemed to put Toon Link at ease, if only a little. "Whatever," he said, heading out. "Let's go start those chores so we can finish up and go play."
"Right…" Pit said, picking himself up from his humiliated slumped position. He waved goodbye to Daisy then followed Toon Link out into the hall. "Oh! Before we start do you need to go potty?" he asked casually.
"...No…" Toon Link said, thinking it a weird question.
"You sure?" Pit insisted. "Wouldn't hurt to try."
"Oh, let me think…" Toon Link said, putting a hand on his chin. Then, after a brief period of fake contemplation, he looked up to Pit and shouted, "Yes I'm sure!"
