Oh boy, this chapter is the longest one yet. Anyways, I do not own Re:Zero or its characters.

"Ahhhh... Wow, where did you learn to make learn make this tea Carmilla, this stuff is delicious!" Subaru praised the Witch of Lust.
Subaru, Satella, and Carmilla were currently having a tea party while everyone was out. Echidna was currently doing her Experiments, Daphne was working on the Titans, and Typhon decided it was that time of the month and went out on her Judgment run, with Minerva and a very reluctant Sehkmet tagging along to make sure the youngest Witch didn't go to far.
As for the Party, in order to not be affected by Carmilla's Authority, Satella had to be blindfolded, with Subaru helping her and making sure nothing was knocked over.
"I learned the recipe from the chef in my old village, me and my fiance used to love going there. It was on a hill right next to a forest with a large pond and mountains in the distance, it was a beautiful sight..." Carmilla reminisced on the past, remembering every detail of that view. It looked remarkably similar to one scene of the 'Anime' Subaru's shown them. The scene in the third episode of the first Season of 'Attack on Titan' where Reiner and Bertholdt took Eren to see a beautiful view at night with the full moon illuminating the whole landscape. That scene reminded Carmilla of a time where she wasn't the Witch of Lust, a time where she still had a chance at true love...
Subaru noticed the look on Carmilla's face, a look he knew far to well. A look of reminiscing and regret.
"I'm sorry, Carmilla. I didn't mean to bring up your past." Subaru apologized. Feeling a little guilty for bringing the topic up.
Carmilla simply shook her head, and small smile made its way onto her face. "It's ok, I just hope that I'll be able to meet him on the other side, and even if he doesn't love me anymore, I'll at least have some closure..."
Satella decided to speak up. "I'm sure your Fiance still loves you. Even though He's gone, you still cherish him and the time you both spent together in your heart. If he's still watching, I'm sure he's ready to welcome you back with open arms." Satella said with all the confidence in the world. Satella knew that if something happened to her, then Subaru would never stop loving her, and vice versa.
Those words warmed Carmilla's heart, and she felt herself cheer up. "Thank you Satella, I sincerely hope that's the case."
"While we're talking about True Love, then I honestly can't think of you two being anymore perfect for each other." Carmilla said to change the topic to something more light hearted, and causing the Young couple to blush.
"Th-thank you Carmilla..." Satella said with a blush on her face.
'Whenever I see you two, I can't help but be reminded of when Subaru inherited the Authority of Envy.' Carmilla thought to herself. That day was a fateful one. The day Subaru became the Warlock of Envy, and went from being one of the weakest beings in the World, to becoming arguably the Strongest...
2 and a half years ago.
It was Morning, if the sunlight coming through the blindfolds was any indication.
Subaru had woken up besides his girlfriend, Satella. They've been taking their relationship slow, such as snuggling regularly, holding hands, and giving each other quick kisses. Subaru was content with this, as it meant that to Satella, he was her reason to keep going.
"C'mon Satella-Tan, we gotta get up..." Subaru said, still tired, but Echidna had summoned the Witches for something important and wanted Subaru and Satella to be present. The two were currently staying in Echidna's guest house she built for visitors. The only way they were earning their stay was Subaru telling Echidna what everything he knew about his World, with Technology and inventions fascinating the Witch of Greed.
"Noooooo... Five more minutes..." Satella said with her eyes still closed, clearly not wanting to get up from snuggling her beloved.
"Well, we either get up ourselves, or Echidna's gonna send Beako, Ryuzu, or Roswaal to get us up." Subaru said, not wanting to have Echidna send someone over here.
The 3 individuals under Echidna's 'care' were interesting to say the least. Beatrice was absolutely adorable, and acted a little like a Tsundere, which somehow made her more adorable in Subaru's eyes. She was an Artificial Spirit created by Echidna, and was a Yin Spirit. Satella offered to train Beatrice alongside Subaru, but Echidna declined, saying that Beatrice has more important stuff to do, like assisting her 'Mother' with her research.
Ryuzu was the one Subaru knew least about, as far he knew, Ryuzu and Beatrice were good friends, and the pink haired girl also assisted Echidna in her research.
Then, there was Roswaal. He was around Subaru's age, albiet a bit older, and he was a powerful Fire user. Roswaal doesn't seem to like Subaru, and tolerated him at best, saying that Echidna didn't need to be distracted by a foreigner. This lead Subaru to finding out the Roswaal has a crush on Echidna and that Roswaal was jealous of the attention Subaru was getting. Subaru tried to explain to that he was already in a relationship with Satella and had no romantic interest in Echidna, and while it did succeed in clearing things up, Roswaal stated that he still had his eye on Subaru.
With a sigh from the Half Elf, Satella sat herself up with a hilarious bedhead to Subaru.
After about 20 minutes, the two got themselves ready and headed outside the little cabin and took the Witch of Greed's house.
In just 2 minutes, the Couple made it to Echidna's house, which was also a cabin. In the front of the house was Echidna, Daphne, Minerva, and Carmilla, who was wearing multiple layers of clothes and a facemask to prevent anyone from seeing her face and activate her Authority. Beatrice, Roswaal, and Ryuzu were also present.
"I'm quite surprised you two aren't late." Echidna said in her normal tone bordering on casual and teasing.
Ignoring the statement, Subaru noticed that the Witches of Pride and Sloth were not present. "Where's Typhon and Sehkmet?"
"They haven't arrived yet. Knowing those two, Typhon's probably dragging Sehkmet here as we speak." Minerva said, knowing that the delay was most definitely Sehkmet being... Sehkmet.
"Very well, then we will continue without them." Echidna stated.
"Are you sure Echidna? I know that Typhon's still a child and may not be able to contribute to whatever you summoned us here for, but we should probably wait for Sehkmet." Minerva said, not willing to risk any unnecessary injuries, just in case Echidna had something Dangerous planned.
"While Sehkmet is the most mature among us with the most experience with her Authority, I believe we will not need her if everything goes according to plan." Echidna explained.
"And why were here today? You just told us to wake up early and come here in the morning." Subaru asked.
"If you needed to know, Lady Echidna would've told you." Roswaal spoke in a tone of annoyance at Subaru.
"It's alright, Roswaal, Subaru deserves to know." Echidna calmed her student down.
"Of course, My Lady." Roswaal obeyed his teacher.
"You see Subaru, we are gathered here today to decide who will inherit the Authority of Envy." Echidna said with a calm expression, despite know the weight of what she just said.
Minerva and Carmilla gasped in surprised, Daphne gave a "Uh Oh", Beatrice, Ryuzu, and Roswaal were stunned to hear what Echidna said. Satella was shocked to hear such a thing, as that meant there would be a new Witch or Warlock of Envy soon.
Subaru on the other hand, was clueless as usual. "And what's the 'Authority of Envy'?" Subaru asked.
Echidna was more than happy to answer. "Authorities are powers the Witches wield, each one representing one of the Seven Deadly Sins. If one possesses an Authority, then they would be classified as the Witch/Warlock of that sin. We are here to determine who will inherit the Authority of Envy, and that person will be the next Witch/Warlock of Envy."
"Ok, I think I got it. So, it's like a power that's transferred from host to host, and each one has its own unique ability?" Subaru asked for clarification.
"Precisely. However, the Authorities do not retain the former host's ability after separation. Rather, the Authority would manifest itself based on your desire and how your sin manifests in you. For example, Minerva, despite being the Witch of Wrath, cannot harm any living being and can only heal individuals with her strikes. Her Wrath was directed at War and her desire is to heal, so her Authority manifested itself to heal rather than harm." Echidna gave her explanation as to how Authorities operate.
"Exactly, and when my Authority gets passed on, the next user of Wrath won't have the same abilities as me. That's how it works for all Authorities." Minerva explained farther.
Subaru understood the explanation. So, whoever inherits the Authority of Envy would have their own unique ability that no other user would have.
"So, who's gonna get it?" Subaru asked.
"Well, we obviously can't just give Envy Witch Factor to anyone, for two main reasons. First, Envy possesses the most Potential out of any Authority, and such, it has had the fewest users. If the user is unable to control that kind of power, the results could be catastrophic. The second reason is compatibility. The User must be compatible with the corresponding Sin in order to use the Authority without the drawbacks, even possessing an Authority in an incompatible body could prove fatal." Echidna explained why they must choose the next user very carefully.
"So, for someone to use the Authority of Envy, they have to be an Envious person, right?"
"Precisely." The Witch of Greed responded.
"I'll do it" Satella spoke up. Everyone else was startled by this.
"Satella, What are you saying?!" Subaru asked, begging to know why his beloved would do such a thing
"Subaru, I'm not going to allow anything to happen to you, and in order to make sure I can keep you safe, I must inherit the Authority." Satella explained.
"No Satella! We both know you aren't compatible! it could hurt you or worse!" Minerva argued against Satella's decision. She was not going to allow her best friend to ruin herself for Subaru.
"Satella, please. You don't have to do this!" Subaru pleaded.
"Yes, I do. I let you get hurt because I wasn't strong enough! I refuse to let that happen again! You mean the world to me, and if something happened to you, I would never forgive me." The Half-Elf explained.
Subaru didn't know what to think. Ever since they ran away from her Village , Satella had always protected him. there was one time when they were ambushed by Bandits and Subaru was stabbed. Thankfully for Subaru, Satella was a skilled healer, and the wound was healed in seconds, but Satella still blamed herself for Subaru's injury, but in actuality, it was Subaru's weakness and lack of power that the made that happen..
Right then and there, Subaru had an epiphany. Ever since he arrived here, he was incredibly weak. Satella was training him to use Yin Magic, and he's made some progress according to the Half-Elf, but he was just naturally weak. The only advantage he had was his knowledge of his own world, and that wouldn't help him in a fight. So, what if...
"What about me?" Subaru asked.
Satella, the Witches, and Echidna's student and assistant all looked at Subaru with wide eyes.
"Could I be compatible?" Subaru restated his question.
"Subaru, you don't have to do this, I can inherit it." Satella tried to reason with her Beloved, but he looked back with determined eyes.
"Satella, I am weak. When I first came here, I couldn't even defend myself. You've forced yourself to fight my battles because of my weakness. I don't want to be a burden that needs to be looked after, I want to be the one to protect you, to let you know that I can fight back against whatever would try to hurt you." Subaru grabbed both of Satella's hands.
"If I'm being honest, I've been a bit jealous of all the power you have and that you're able to deal with anything that comes you way, but I never brought it up because I didn't want to hurt your feelings, or worse make you think I only liked you for your power. I love you Satella, I want to protect you and our future, and if it means inheriting the embodiment of Envy to do that, then so be it." Subaru finished what he wanted to say, and simply waited for what Satella wanted to say.
It was Satella turn to be speechless. Subaru hasn't said anything like this since he offered her to run away with him, but there was one thing she wanted to know before she made her decision.
"...Are you sure you want to do this, Subaru? Once you inherit the Authority, it will stay with you for the rest of your Life." The Half-Elf asked, wanting to clear about what he was agreeing to.
Subaru simply smiled and gave a comforting look. "I'm sure, even if I do fall into the darkness, I know you'll be there to pull me back out."
Sniff Sniff.
Carmilla was currently on the verge of tears at the act of Love Subaru was displaying. He truly loved Satella with all his heart.
"Echidna, what do you think?" Minerva asked the smartest Witch.
"Hard to say, I'll need to run a compatibility test on him. It will only take a few minutes." Echidna answered.
"If I am compatible with the Authority of Envy, then I want to at least try." Subaru stated.
"Very well then, come inside Subaru, and we shall determine if you are compatible or not."
Echidna said, stepping inside the cabin and waiting for the foreign boy.
"Alright. Wish me luck, ok Satella-Tan?." Subaru smiled at his girlfriend.
"Always and forever, my Beloved." Satella stated, pulled her beloved in for a kiss.
Subaru's eyes widened because this kiss was deeper and more intimate than all the other kisses they had, but soon found himself giving into it and wrapping his arms around the Half-Elf.
The kiss carried on for a 15 seconds before Echidna gave a loud "Ahem!" at the couple. Subaru let go of Satella and went inside to determine his compatibility to the Envy Witch Factor.
After about 10 minutes, Echidna and Subaru still haven't come out.
"Echidna said it would only take a few minutes..." Satella started to get impatient. The Half-Elf knew that Echidna had taken an interest in Subaru, and it irritated Satella to no end.
"I get that your worried that Echidna would do something to Subaru, and I'll be honest, I never fully trusted Subaru around you Satella." Minerva confessed her thoughts on Satella relationship with Subaru, which caused Satella to turn to her best friend in surprise.
"When you first introduced me to Subaru, I was really skeptical. Because of Reid constantly trying to make moves on me, I have a hard time trusting men, but Subaru is different. When Subaru said he wanted to inherit the Authority of Envy, for a second I thought he just wanted the power for himself, but then Subaru said the only reason he wanted the Authority was to protect you. I've trained myself to see through lies, and I know for a fact that Subaru meant every word. So, I trust him, and I now know he wouldn't do anything to hurt you." Minerva said with a smile.
Satella was surprised to hear that Minerva didn't fully trust Subaru until now, but was glad that Minerva changed her mind.
"Hey Everybody!" Everyone turned to see Typhon, who was currently dragging Sehkmet by her legs.
"Hey Ty, you're a little late. Is it because of your Mom?" Satella asked the Witch of Pride.
"Yeah, Mommy wanted to take a nap, so I pulled her here." Typhon explained with her signature smile.
"Haaaaaa. Have we arrived?..." The Witch of Sloth had awoken from her nap, as she actually noticed that Typhon had stopped dragging her.
"Yes Mommy, we're here." The Witch of Pride answered her Adoptive Mother. She soon noticed that 2 people were missing.
"Hey, where's Dona and Baru?" Typhon asked.
"Subaru is currently getting a compatibility test from Echidna." Satella answered, confusing Typhon and causing Sehkmet to raise her eyebrow.
"A compatibility test? Haaa... For what purpose?..." Sehkmet lazily asked.
"According to Echidna, we have to decide who will inherit the Authority of Envy, and Subaru volunteered." Minerva explained, which shocked Typhon and Sehkmet, although Sehkmet's shock was far more suppressed due to her laziness.
"Haaaaa... I see. How long have they... haaaaa... been in there..."
"About 11 to 12 minutes. They should be out about-" Satella said before being interrupted by her beloved.
"We're done." Subaru said, exiting the cabin with Echidna.
"BARU!" Typhon ran to hug her friend, specifically his leg. Subaru gladly returned it.
"Hey Ty, we were waiting for you and Sehkmet. What took you so long?" Subaru was glad to see his favorite Witch.
"Mommy made me pull her here because she wanted to nap."
"Yep, that sounds like Sehkmet alright..."
"Well, what were the results?" Satella asked the question of that would decide the future.
"The results are... Subaru is compatible." Echidna revealed.
The others were surprised at the results. Subaru was now set to inherit the Envy Witch Factor, and become the new Warlock of Envy.
Satella didn't know how to feel about this. Subaru, her beloved, was going to inherit a Witch Factor, and not just any Witch Factor, but the Authority of Envy. On one hand, she was happy for him. He would finally gain the power he wanted to protect her. On the other hand, Satella was worried what the Authority would do to Subaru, and if it would make everything worse...
"Alright, so how do we do this? Do we do an ancient ritual? Go on a quest for a mystical artifact?" Subaru asked, trying to use his RPG gaming experience to guess the situation.
"No, all you need to do is to come in physical contact with the Envy Witch Factor, and allow it to adjust itself to your body." Echidna explained.
"Ok, so where is it?" Subaru didn't see anything that screamed 'Envy' to him.
"Right here." Echidna held out her hand and snapped her fingers, and then a small black box appeared in her open palm.
"Natsuki Subaru, do you accept the responsibility of possessing the Authority of Envy? It will be bound to you from this day to the time of your Death, and will be with you in your brightest moments and your darkest hours. Do you accept the burden of becoming the Warlock of Envy? To be shunned by society and be forever labeled a walking disaster? If you agree, there will be no turning back..." Echidna stated, wanting to be absolutely sure Subaru knew what he was about to do.
Subaru felt the weight his decision creeping up on him. Subaru looked back at Satella, who was looking at him, her eyes telling that whatever decision he made, she would support him as best as she could.
Subaru remembered when he asked her to run away with him, away from her Village, and from them... he promised to always be by her side. To hold her hand, to kiss and comfort her.
Satella was his reason for fighting this Cruel, yet beautiful world. She was the light to his darkness, and she loved him far more than he believed he ever deserved.
His resolve strengthened, Subaru turned back to Echidna, and was ready to make his decision.
"I accept these terms."
With sly smile that suited the Witch of Greed, Echidna opened the box, and revealed the Envy Witch Factor.
It was a small Heart shape. Out of all things Subaru imagined, a heart wasn't one of them, but it was definitely unsettling. It was pitch black with purple outlines, and there was a clawed hand grabbing the heart. The hand was the same color as the heart, with it being black and having a purple outline. Yet the creepiest thing about the heart, is that it seemed to be beating... as if it was alive...
Subaru knew it was too late to turn back now. He had to do this. He had to gain the power he needed to ensure their future.
For Satella.
Subaru reached out his hand, and everyone stood ready to see what would happen. Subaru was just inches away from the pulsating Witch Factor, and placed his index finger on it.
The next thing he knew, Subaru was swallowed by the Darkness.
It was dark. Subaru couldn't see anything. The... place, wherever it was, was dark and there was fog(?) everywhere. Yet, it was no uncomfortable. Infact, it almost felt relaxing...
Was this some kind of trial he had to take before the Authority would permit itself to be used by him or was it something else?
Tap. Tap. Tap.
Someone was approaching him. A figure began to take form right in front of him. Maybe this a boss that Subaru had to beat? Whatever the case was, Subaru was prepared to defend himself from-...
...Satella?...
The figure approaching him was his Lover, but there was different about her. She was wearing a black and orange dress that looks like it was inspired by his track suit, and she was covered in a see-through cloak of shadows.
What most caught his attention was her face. He could clearly see tears flowing down her cheeks and her eyes were red, indicating that she had been crying quite a lot. Her skin look pale, as if she hadn't seen the sun in a long time.
Her eyes however, were what broke his heart the most. They looked... broken...
"...S... Satella?..." Subaru asked, not even knowing what to say. Was this an illusion? Something that the Envy Witch Factor was using to test his resolve?
"Subaru... my Beloved..." 'Satella' whispered out. Her voice... it sounded almost... dead... there was none of the passion that his Satella had.
"...I don't understand... how are you here?" 'Satella' asked. Her voice were merely whispers yet to Subaru it was as if someone was echoing in a Cave.
"I..." Was all Subaru got to say before something grabbed him and pulled him back with tremendous force, and 'Satella' disappearing into the darkness.
Next thing he knew, Subaru was back in the guest cabin. He was laying on his and Satella's bed, and staring up at the ceiling.
"I'm back?..." Subaru felt a tug to his right, and saw Satella, sitting on a chair and resting her head on the bed, arm right hand holding Subaru's. Satella was currently sleeping, likely due to waiting for him to wake up.
"About time you woke up." Subaru sat up and turned to see Minerva, Carmilla, and Echidna. The Witch of Wrath leaning against the wall, Carmilla simply standing, and Echidna sitting on another chair.
"Echidna? Minerva? Carmilla? Mmm, how long was I out?" Subaru asked, rubbing his forehead.
"Five hours. You gave us quite a scare. The Witch Factor entered your body and you just fainted. We were all worried that you might not have been compatible after all, but Echidna said that you weren't experiencing any negative effects other than a loss in consciousness." Minerva explained.
"So... I have the Authority of Envy now?" Subaru was surprised that other then passing out and possibly seeing the Afterlife, nothing else bad happened to him.
"Correct. Congratulations Subaru, you are now the new Warlock of Envy." Echidna congratulated the newly made Warlock.
He did it, he became the Warlock of Envy. Subaru was stunned. He felt he had done the second most worthwhile thing in his life. The first being gaining Satella's freedom.
Satella... what exactly did he see?...
"Hey, do the Authorities show you... illusions or something like that?" Subaru asked.
"Not that I know of, why?" Echidna asked, curious as to what made Subaru think that.
"Well, after I touched the Witch Factor, I was suddenly in... I don't know where... it was dark, I could barely see anything... but for some reason... Satella was there too..." Subaru explained.
"W-well, you two do love each other very m-much, s-so maybe you were d-dreaming about her?..." Carmilla suggested in a shy manner.
"No, I don't think so. She was wearing a different dress, one that had the same colors as my tracksuit, and she was cloaked in what looked like shadows..." Subaru looked to his sleeping lover. "But she looked so...Broken... she was pale, like she hadn't seen the sun years... and there were tears running down face constantly... I've never seen her like that..."
"Interesting, did she say anything?" The Witch of Greed asked, her curiosity once again getting the better of her.
"She asked me how I got there... that she didn't understand... next thing I know, I woke up here." Subaru finished explaining his 'dream'.
"Interesting, I'll have to make a note of this."
"Seriously Echidna? Can't you be considerate of others for once?" Minerva was a little annoyed at how nonchalantly Echidna was dealing with Subaru's situation.
"This has never been recorded to happen before, so of course I'm going to write it down. Now, if you don't mind me, I will be on my way." Echidna said as she sat up and walked back to her house.
With a frustrated sigh, Minerva followed the Witch of Greed. "Go ahead and rest Subaru, you wanna let you Authority get adjusted to your body before you start using it." Minerva said as she headed out the door.
"Right. Well, I think I've had enough excitement for one day..." Subaru said with an exhausted look.
"Goodbye Subaru, I hope you feel better." Carmilla said before following suit and heading out of the cabin.
"Alright Carmilla, see you." Subaru said his goodbye, and then turn to the sleeping Half-Elf. He remembered how Satella in his 'dream' looked, and it broke his heart to see her like that.
"No matter what happens, I'll always be there to pull you out of the darkness, My Beloved." Subaru said, mimicking what Satella called him all the time
Carmilla heard the statement, and turned back to see Subaru hold in Satella's hand and running his right hand through her hair. All with a loving gaze on his face.
An act of True love. A love not even world's can keep aparts...
2 and a half years later.
That day had been a fateful one indeed.
Subaru later started training with his Authority, and good Heavens, was it Powerful...
Subaru's Authority allowed him to manipulate the fabric of Space itself, which is a 'broken ability' as Subaru put it. He wanted to name his Power, and said he was reminded of a constellation from his World he was named after. He decided to name his Spatial Manipulation "Seventh Star of the Pleiades".
Unlike the other Authorities, which had only 1 or 2 abilities, Subaru had at least 5 different abilities he can use, and he was discovering more to this day.
Subaru's first discovered ability was his "Gravity Falls", named after a show he watched on his old world. Subaru can control Gravity however he sees fit. Anything from Zero Gravity, Increasing an object or beings weight, to even being able to crush their bodies is well within his power. He can even use it to flying. It had a massive range, as it reach as far as he could see, except for going into space.
His next ability was his Portals. They didn't know the exact range, but Subaru seemed to be able to open portals anywhere in the world, and he can even go into other worlds. Infact he used this to visit his Parents after a few months of trying to master the ability. In order for him to open a portal to where he wants to go, Subaru requires a mental or physical image of the location, or anywhere in his field of vision.
Subaru recently discovered that he could phase through Solid objects... by sneezing and his lower half falling through the floor. Subaru was working on mastering the ability, but that was likely to take awhile. He decided to name it 'Ghosting'.
Next were the most surprising abilities Subaru had access to were his aptly named 'SMT' and 'SMM', or 'Satella-Tan is seriously an Angel' and 'Satella-Tan is seriously a Goddess'. Both nicknames Carmilla and Minerva found to be incredibly cute, and Satella couldn't have been anymore embarrassed that day...
SMT was an ability that allowed Subaru to draw power from literal Stars! He didn't know how the process worked, but he feels an overwhelming amount of power coursing through him, and this power allows him to amplify his Magic and Authority's power output to insane levels... but unfortunately he can't use it for very long without risking severe injuries...
SMM was a freaking Black Hole, which sucked in anything close to it, and crushed under the infinite weight of Gravity. It was Subaru's strongest ability, and only used it as a last resort.
Subaru's Authority of Envy was the most powerful Authority ever recorded, but that wasn't to say it wasn't without its own drawback...
"Carmilla? You there?" Subaru asked the Witch of Lust, who snapped out of her trance.
"Right! Sorry, I was just thinking about the day you got your Authority." Carmilla said, a bit embarrassed she got distracted by her thoughts.
"Ah, that day..." Subaru still sometimes had nightmares about what he saw that day. Soon after Satella woke up after Subaru gained his Authority, she could tell he was a bit off, and eventually he told Satella what he saw.
Subaru felt himself being wrapped into a hug, he turned to see his beloved Satella, still wearing her blindfold.
