Prompt: Brother by Kodaline. A little mix of TOS and TAG
When we were young we were the ones
The kings and queens oh yeah, we ruled the world…
Wish I could relive every single word
They were inseparable. Had been since birth. Even though there was a brother in between them, Scott and Virgil were almost like twins. One followed the other in everything, and yet they kept their own identities, their own interests. They had the most amazing childhood years, right up until life threw them a curveball there was no coming back from.
We've taken different paths
And travelled different roads
I know we'll always end up on the same one when we're old
And when you're in the trenches
And you're under fire I will cover you
Then, it was five against the world, and Scott tried his hardest to ensure his brothers had the childhood he had and beyond, preparing them all to face the world. It was still Scott & Virgil, even when Scott left them behind and moved out into the world, the two talked every day that they could. And when he was returned to them after being shot down Virgil was there, keeping the demons at bay. They always knew that they would end up back together at some point. They hadn't thought it would be so soon.
If I was dying on my knees
You would be the one to rescue me
And if you were drowned at sea
I'd give you my lungs so you could breathe
Then came International Rescue. And they rescued people. And they rescued each other. It started small really, rescue an airliner here, some miners there, pick up some divers over there. But it grew and grew until the five of them were inundated.
Every rescue saved a little bit of themselves.
When the Sentinel shot Virgil down, he swore it was only the voice of his brother that kept him in the air.
When Scott went missing over the Sahara, it was the thought of his brother looking for him that kept him going.
When their dad went missing, presumed dead, they clung to each other like drowning men clinging to the lifebuoy of each other.
I've got you brother
When Scott surfed down the mountain on of the solar collector, Virgil's heart was in his mouth until his brother's bird caught him.
When Scott almost died in the uranium mine Virgil was there to catch him.
When Virgil was caught in the blackout in London, Scott was the first one to welcome him home.
When EOS disclosed herself to them, it was Virgil who picked Scott up in the aftermath, bolstering his brother in his anguish of issuing that command.
When Scott needed holding back from punching that stupid professor, Virgil was there just in time. And when Scott needed talking down again once it was all over, Virgil was there.
When Two fell fowl of Langstrom Fischler's latest hairbrained invention and then One did as well, they helped each other.
When Scott exhibited more recklessness than was normal even for him, Virgil was the voice of reason that calmed and supported him, reminding him of who he was and who they wanted him to be.
I've got you brother
