"Long week Lori?"

"You literally have no idea, I've barely been able to talk to Boo Boo Bear for more than twelve hours so far!"

"Wow, that's totes not cool Lori!"

"I know… but at least we still have the weekend-"

"Bleh!" Lynn gagged up, "we're here to kill each other- save the relationship gunk for after the game!"

"Whatever," Lori rolled her eyes. "So Twerp, did you get those mods to everyone?"

"Why yes dear Lori, I do believe that I did!" Lincoln's voice sounded gleeful. "And I think th-"

"And did you let everyone else go a few rounds with them beforehand?" Lori interrupted. "Since I know we've been literally planning this for a week?"

"… I just got them today?"

"I literally don't believe that," Lori sighed. "Did everyone else look up how the mods worked on Viewtube so we all know how to play?"

"Yep!"

"Like, of course!"

"Pshhaw," Lola laughed. "What kind of amateur do you take me for?"

Various other confirmations echoed through the group chat.

"That's… good…" Lincoln sourly affirmed.

"Oh, it really is," Lori smugly nodded to herself, having foiled yet another obvious plot by 'The Man With A Plan'. "Now, which should we try first?"

Luan Loud was a very happy girl this game, for as her spaceman marched through the corridors, she had nothing to fear. Though she had deviated once more from Luna and undoubtably collected the dreaded suss like lint from an attic- she knew she was no Imposter.

Then again, that would still have left her wary of crewmates and aliens both.

But still there was a certain pleased nonchalance in her movements, in the ease in which she passed by her fellows. Popping into a room for a moment to see Lincoln hurriedly scamper to put a table between himself and the April Fool, only for the prankster to cheerfully back away without ever approaching.

Skipping by any and all tasks, or at least finishing them suspiciously fast. Or hanging around them for far too long in a place where an activated camera could see her linger like stain, seemingly waiting for some poor fool to come by and get ganked.

But the other seven innocents in the crew had no reason to fear Luan's giggling glee, at least in the immediate sense. For Luan Loud had been granted a very special boon, a hat of sorts seemingly crafted to fit her and handed graciously by the algorithm to the one true prankster of the house.

For one of the many mods Lincoln had obtained was a lovely little role that changed the game entirely for one crewmate, changed the game so significantly that it more or less reversed the rules for that one person.

That one…

Jester.

And as Luan's avatar bounced along with nary a care in the world, she happily contemplated her victory. Sure, the others would suspect when she deliberately broke away from Luna- but they couldn't be sure. After all, what better concealment for a seemingly found imposter than to play the fool in hopes the other side would blink first?

She'd even already found Leni's body in weapons (killer long gone of course, as per Leni-murder tradition dictated), and was happily marching by anyone who could see her leaving the scene of the crime.

"Hello Lynn!" She laughed as peeked into electrical, waiting a moment for Lynn to finish her task so that the crimson player could turn and see her waiting in the hall.

Lynn froze at the station.

Luan waved at the screen, waited another full three seconds.

Then turned and walked out into the hallway.

The same process repeated.

For Lana and Lola in the engines.

Then Lori in the camera room.

Then finally she went into Medbay, cackling to herself in the hopes of finding some poor schmuck doing their scan-

SHLAKK

"So what's all this then!?" Luna's usual accent had gone the wayside as she adopted the steroptyical British 'Bobby' voice. " 'Ello, 'ello? Why dare I say, this here is a right murder if I ever did see one!" Luna's faux-accent gleefully shifted from tone to tone, low-class to posh and all degrees between as she delved into her role. "Looks like it's time for Copper Loud to step in!"

"Looks like we know who's The Sherriff this round," Lori sighed. "And Luna, it's literally 'The Sherrif Mod', not 'The Bobby Mod'- tone down the English."

"Yeah, at least do a cowboy accent or something!" Lana griped.

"Nah luv, this's more fun."

Which of course, was exactly what Lincoln was intending for them all to have when he loaded up multiple mods at once. Sure, they might have had some trouble if some of them didn't know how The Sheriff or Jester worked- but losing in some dumb way was part of the fun anyway.

Besides, they only had a few hours with Lori per week- they had to fit as much into those hours as possible!

"Whatever," Lori rolled her eyes. "Just try to stick to one kind of English."

"Smashing!" Luna interrupted, happily embracing her role as the bringer of British-themed law and order. "Now, who 'ere found the body?"

"I discovered our sister's fate all too late," Lucy sighed. "Her still warm form was just within the medical dorm and I caught a glimpse of the vent cover slam shut."

"An' did you happen to get a good look at the perp in question?" Luna insisted.

"Alas, they escaped my sight by mere moments." Lucy droned. "But I reported Luan's body right after-"

"So whoever's gone and done it won't have an alibi!" Luna concluded. "Righto then, me an' Linc were scamperin' about ri-"

"We were in the admin room." Lincoln interjected. "I was trying to do card swipe-"

"For a good long while I'd have ta say," Luna's suspicious voice queried. "How come you took so long?"

"Luan startled me okay!" Lincoln sniped. "She just popped into the hallway and waited like some kind of stalker, then backed away when I put the table between us- I thought she might be imposter so I had to keep checking just in case and I was nervous so I screwed up a few times!"

"A likely story…" Luna drawled. "… But I know I saw you failin' in real time so you're off the hook this time-"

"Thanks so much.-"

"I was in the camera room," Lori asserted before Lincoln could whinge to his satisfaction. "The twins were in the engines, I think Lynn was in electrical?"

"Yeah, just finishing up that stupid spinny thing."

"Right, and I saw Lucy come in from Cafeteria after Luan went in- but literally no one else did for the whole round." Lori affirmed. "And Leni was- dead again dang it. Did anyone see her-"

"Nada."

"Nope.

"I think we saw her in Cafeteria, but we left before she did." Lola affirmed.

30 Seconds Remain.

"Dang it," Luna sighed in her regular voice. "That's at least three dudes that could have done in Lu- no idea for Leni and we don't even know where Lisa was!"

"I was in navigation, before that I performed the downloading task in Cafeteria," Lisa piped up. "I happened to see Luan come in my direction before departing to shields, she was suspiciously separate from Luna and lingered just long enough to become concerning- but given that I was left unharmed and she has been 'dealt with' as it were- I must assume that by-"

"Fate granted her the role of Jester," Lucy calmly interjected. "*Sigh*, there was no other way."

"Sheer coincidence," Lisa emphasised. "Luan was fittingly assigned as our first Jester and acted accordingly until her antics gave her assailant ample opportunity to render her 'post-prankster'."

10 Seconds Remain

"Sounds plausible," Luna admitted. "But you don't have an alibi for just now do you?"

"No, but I would point out that applies to three others," Lisa sharply replied. "Hardly damning, and my 'story' as it were can be effectively corroborated by Lori if-"

"Uhhh," Lori inhaled. "Sorry Leese, I totally wasn't looking on that side-"

Luna was in a bit of a pickle.

Sure, she was having fun with the whole 'Sherriff' thing; but there were already two down and she had no one to watch her back in case the imposters wanted her gone- and since she'd gone and run her mouth, she was gonna be target number 1 for sure!

"Dang it- okay Lunes it's time to focus before another one bites the dust!" Luna's avatar marched from room to room- ignoring her own tasks in favour of keeping an eye on everyone else.

Lori was still on Cameras.

Lynn was marching through corridors to Cafeteria- Luna darted back into medical lest she get the drop on her. But the sporty sister marched past without apparent notice.

Sighing internally with relief, Luna turned her attention to the room. There wasn't anyone else in there as far as she knew- maybe Luan was haunting her and making ghost puns like;

"Me, an imposter? I wouldn't stand a ghost of a chance!"

OR

"I can't be suss, can't you see I'm being completely transparent!?"

And even;

"C'mon that was a good one! Well, I guess it's fair play since I'm ghosting everyone now! Haha; geddit?"

"Shut up mind Luan!" Luna groaned. "I'm trying ta solve a murder here-"

"Mind Luan?" One very physical Luan Loud popped up from her bunk bed to look at her next oldest sister. "Geeze Luna, I had no idea I was living in your head rent free!"

"Luan?" Luna scooted back in surprised, "that was really yo- how come you're in here!? You know the game rules- no players in the same place!"

"Yeah, but I'm dead and Leni doesn't get any of my jokes." Luan shrugged. "As long as I don't spill the beans on the bean-breaker I'm sticking to the rules, so why not let me pun in peace?"

"Ahhh!" Luna groaned, "whatever Dude, just let me focus on the gam-"

Speak of the devil.

Just as Luna returned her attention to her screen, she caught a glimpse of a passing astronaut in the corridor.

"Stop the clock Lu- I think we 'ave a runner!" Luna grinned as she felt herself slip into the Copper Loud persona once more. Her purple avatar quickly made after the other, but when she arrived at the Cafeteria, no one was there.

"Dang it, too fast to get a good at 'em either." Luna sighed.

"Don't feel too bad Luna, they could have just been doing a task or something." Luan chirped.

"I know, but the way they ran looked preeetty suss to me." Luna mused, though of course there was no way for an avatar to walk any differently at all. The would be detective suddenly brightened. "But Lori's on cameras- if we go find an' find a body in the west now, we'll know for sure who it is!"

"Yeah!" Luan agreed, then titled her head. "As long as it isn't Lori anyway."

"So, uhhh. Lori's dead." Luna sighed. "We spotted someone running from the west, but they got away before we got a good look at 'em. We went to go check if there were any bodies- and yeah Lori carked it."

" 'We'," Lisa's suspicious voice asserted. "I was under the impression that we were each playing separately."

"Lu's snuck in," Luna admitted. "But she's not snitichin' or anything- just making cheesy puns like usual."

"Hey, my puns are anything but cheesy!" Luan protested. "They're milked for all they're worth!"

There was a moment of silence for the mutual suffering of the listeners.

"Dude…" Luna groaned. "I'm regretting havin' eardrums!"

"I hereby propose that Luan be allowed to remain in her and Luna's shared room so long as she remains silent in all further meetings." Lisa. "At this point there is nothing else we can do if she revealed the identity of her killer regardless."

"Sure."

"Yep."

"Anything to avoid dealing with that for a few minutes!" Lola snapped.

"Then it seems settled." Lisa announced. "Now then, I believe that your statement involved you observing the killer in retreat?"

"Yeah, but they got- hey- I'm the Copper here!" Luna protested. "An' like I said; the other guy got away, I went after 'em but by the time I got to Cafeteria they were long gone. ' Thing is though; I backtracked to cameras right quick and Lori was already ganked! So whoever did it, did it just now and they've probably got no alibi!"

"Assuming that the 'runner' in question was indeed attempting to escape suspicion rather than simply leaving for a task on the other side of the map, and that Lori had not been killed some time ago and simply not been discovered." Lisa countered. "It could have been a coincidence."

"Did anyone see if the cameras shut off all of a sudden?" Lola inquired, "I think they were on when Lana and I went into electrical but we were in there for a while."

"Until the end of the round?" Luna queried.

"Yeah, we both had stuff to do in there." Lana piped up.

"Then the killer wouldn't 'ave been able to vent out easy-" Luna snapped her fingers. "I was in MedBay, so there was no place for 'em to go!"

"Assuming that Lori died recently of course," Lisa pointed out. " 'A while' is hardly a definite timeframe."

"Whatever Dude," Luna ignored. "Right, lets find out where everyone was. I was in Medbay, the twins were in Electrical. Where was everyone else?"

"I was in comms." Lynn stated.

"I was in the reactor with Lisa." Lincoln asserted. "I almost had the number pad thing done when the meeting was called."

"I can also attest to being in the reactor." Lisa agreed.

"So that leaves… Luce?" Luna's eyes narrowed. "Come on Spooky, you gonna fess up or do you 'ave an alibi for us luv?"

"I was navigation," Lucy sighed. "Seeking an answer to all of life's-"

"Okay, doin' stuff alone on the other side of the map, got it." Luna cut her off. "Now let's see… that means that there's only two people without alibis for this round; and both of them are on the other side of the ship!"

"Hang on!" Lynn protested, "I never even went to the west side this round anyway!"

"Likewise," Lucy echoed. "But perhaps our fate is to be discarded to the void despite our obvious innocence; *sigh* if only there were true justice in this world."

30 Seconds Remaining.

"Oi, we're wasting time!" Luna snapped. "All right, two without alibis but only one killer-"

"Couldn't they both be murderers?" Lola suggested and her voice turned characteristically vicious. "We could be sure and toss them both!"

"I would advise caution." Lisa countered. "There is a reasonable probability that at least one of them is innocent."

"And why would that be Brainbox?"

"If you recall the first round; the killer was never established due to how many suspects were available." Lisa asserted. "However Lucy was the individual who identified the body in question, assuming her statement was truthful the most probable remaining suspect of that round was Lynn-"

"HEY-"

"Let 'er finish," Luna interjected. "It'll only make you look guilty if you go interruptin'."

"Fine." Lynn huffed.

"… As I was saying," Lisa adjusted her glasses. "Lynn would be the most probable suspect as by her own 'alibi', she was working alone in electrical, the only other place that the vents of MedBay connect to besides the Cameras- which were occupied by the now verifiably innocent Lori."

"So toss Lynn then?"

Lynn was about to protested- when Lisa interjected once more. "Not quite, Lucy herself was the only one to verify that she did not- in fact- simply kill Luan. If my memory serves me correctly, Lori stated that no one else entered MedBay that entire round, and that Lucy entered almost immediately after. It is entirely possible, if not likely, that Lucy simply self-reported and lied about seeing the vents close."

"I get it, if one of them was the imposter who did that that first round then the other one's probably innocent." Luna assessed. "Thing is though; we don't exactly have a way of figurin' out which one's talkin sh-"

"LANGUAGE LUNA!" Rita called from downstairs.

"-itake mushrooms," Luna lamely censored. "If we fifty-fifty it, we'll be down to six next round and-"

10 Seconds remaining.

"I say we throw both of them out the airlock!" Lola declared, slamming both hands down on whatever surface she was near. "We know at least one of them's probably the killer, and if we throw both it's four on one!"

In a way it was poetic.

The first game they'd played had The Imposter under threat and resorting to an immediate emergency to cancel out the use of the button.

So it was here.

The moment the lights dimmed the crewmates knew what had happened with perfect certainty, and immediately clumped as best they could.

Both then and now it was their best shot, lest one be picked off in the dark without notice.

But they knew, they all knew.

Clumping together was a recipe for a stack kill, and on the way to fix the lights?

It was a guarantee that at least of them would die, just like it had taken one of the twins last time.

So it was now.

"Lana!" Lola facepalmed. "I… I'm only sorry it wasn't sooner you grubby, stinky pet-hoarding gashole!"

"Thanks sis!" Lana called from the attic. "By the way, I let Bitey sleep on your pillow again!"

"You w-"

"Righto then!" Luna cut off the ensuing argument. "Another one bites the dust and there's a suspect already in the firing line. What do you have to say yourself Spooky?"

"I can only protest my innocence," Lucy sighed. "All the evidence against me is but coincidence, and there is not a drop of blood running from my fingers."

"Not good enough I'm afraid," Luna shook her head. "I'm gonna have to-"

"A moment if you please, Elder Sister Unit!" Lisa interjected.

"Eh?"

"I must concur with Lucy's assessment." Lisa explained. "While there is a mountain of evidence against her; it is entirely circumstantial or indefinite. Even the most damning, her finding of Luan's body can be explained as finding Lynn's handywork."

"Yeah well, someone offed Lana." Luna insisted. "And once is coincidence, twice is bad luck- but three times? that's suss as Lincoln's trunk."

"Hey-"

"Regardless of the questionable nature of Lincoln's activities, I must also point out that there are now only five of us left." Lisa explained. "While I find it unlikely, it is possible that both Imposters have evaded detection and if the total count were to be reduce to four, they would win automatically."

"But that doesn't add up does it?" Luna pointed out. "Last time there were only two people who could'a done it and we're about to huck the other one to be sure, unless you an' Linc have something you'd like to confess."

"No, our alibis are quite secure." Lisa promptly replied. "However; I must point out that the twins merely confirmed that they were in electrical, which is directly connected to the Camera room. If Lana happened to focus on a task for a few seconds, that is all it would take for Lola to have vented to Lori, finished her off and then returned with her counterpart none the wiser-"

Lola issued a screech of rage, "you're accusing me!?"

"It would also make sense that Lana would be closest to Lola during the cover of darkness," Lisa continued. "And while I take no pleasure in this, I must insist that we consider all possibilities when we could be on the verge of self-defeat."

"… Yeah, Brainbox's got a point." Luna admitted. "We never did ask Lana or Lols if they actually kept an eye on each the whole time-"

"Because we were with each other the whole time!" Lola protested. "We're twins."

"Lols," Luna interjected, "that's kinda suss reasoning considerin' that you literally killed Lana just a few games ago."

There was a gasp of something like pride in the call.

"Ah sod off Lori, I used it properly!" Luna immediately shut down the eldest's glee. "Anyhow, Leese has a point; Lucy's not been caught proper and if it's Linc and Lola playin' things smart then we could take ourselves out quick smart."

"And what if it's just Lucy?" Lola growled. "We could win right now, heck; if there's two left then we've basically lost anyway- they just need to kill one more person and they've won! I say we follow through!"

There was no emergency this time.

The five bean men quickly spread apart from one another, each now well wary of each other. Lincoln tried to stay close to Lola, but she promptly backed away- and no wanting to attract the suss he respected her boundaries.

He had only one task left now, and that was far from storage anyway- and once he was done with it he could stick with Luna for the rest of the game. So he marched his fluorescent orange bean man upwards, past the cafeteria where there was no one, past MedBay-

He jerked to the far side of the corridor as he spotted two occupants.

There, Lola was standing on the scanner, and right next to her was Lisa at the console.

"Calm down Loud…" he released a held breath. "They're just doing tasks… and if one's an imposter- they'll kill the other one before you!

If they're not both imposters…"

He shuddered.

Maybe just get his tasks done and get gone?

Yes, just go into into Upper Engines.

Nice, safe Upper Engines.

Safe in the third of the map that he knew most if not all of the murders had happened.

In a room with a vent right close to his task…

He edged away from the room as the 'blonde in a horror movie' tingles crawled up his back.

"It's, it's fine." He whispered to himself. "I-I'll just stay near Luna and ask her to come with me when her tasks are done. I'm completely safe, I mean; I'm not even blonde-"

SHLARK

Alas, the white haired boy only now remembered that his platinum strands were but on the end of the bright gradient of blondeness rather than a hair colour of its own.

"I located Lincoln's cadaver in The Upper Engine Room," Lisa asserted. "He appears to have been attempting to complete his task when he was unceremoniously exterminated."

"Righto, and can anyone else account for your whereabouts at the time of the murder Miss Loud?" There was a sound of scribbling. " 'Cause this round was right short and since there ain't no one else dead-"

"It's Doctor Loud," Lisa sharply asserted, "and for the record- I was in MedBay shortly before I found Lincoln's body to perform the sample inspection task there, Lola was present to perform her scan, she will be able to vouch for me at that time."

"Yes, she was there," Lola confirmed. "And can we turn visual tasks back on, scanning is pointless if there's no one else there with the same task!"

"Well that's fine and dandy," Luna pointedly ignored the Pagent Princess. "But was anyone there to see if ya didn't go and gank Lincoln and self-report?" Luna insisted. " 'Cause I've been thinkin'. All this time you've been awfully involved in the investigation,

Lots'a talkin'.

A lotta suggestions that that might'a changed how we all voted."

Luna's voice took on a distinct suspicious tone, "I gotta say… you're a little suss, little sis."

"Yeah…" Lola's voice chimed in. "And you were the one who trying to throw me under the bus!"

"… It was only by her intervention I was saved." Lucy admitted. "But she was the one who named me for the red letter."

"Really?" Lisa's voice dripped with dry contempt (more than her usual amount anyway). "After all my efforts to solve the case as it were?"

"Yep."

"Yes!"

"…"

"Fine… no, strangely enough there was not another member of our thinly stretched crew with me when I discovered Lincoln's body." Lisa testily admitted. "But I would like to point out that since we are now down to four members, there must be only one Imposter left in the game. If you are truly certain of my guilt then I propose that we skip and that Luna come over and 'prove' said guilt so that we can be rid of her insufferably accented antics!"

The Bean Men remained stationary around the table for a moment, but Lisa's green astronaut pointedly marched up to her sister's purple counterpart.

Lisa had chosen to add a pair of spectacles to her little avatar, just sitting there in front of the faceplate suspended by whatever cartoon logic that allowed the assorted bean men to climb ladders with miraculously materialising hands attached with invisible limbs. The empty lenses seemed to stare into Luna's faceplate with cold resolve, while Luna's plain Bean man remained stationary, but that absence of movement only seemed to imply hesitation as the others moved to gather around- close enough to get a slightly better position but not too close that Luna would accidentally target them at the moment of truth.

A few seconds passed and the stare off continued.

Then a few more.

Then Luna stepped forward. Still though, she did nothing.

The two avatars stared each other down.

The other two stood far from the action, just in range to see what would happen.

The timer of Luna's cooldown ticked down.

10 Seconds…

5 Seconds…

She blinked as a bead of sweat ran down her face, she swiped it away and prepared her trigger finger.

3 Seconds…

1 Second…

"Moment of truth everyone…" Luna pressed down.

SHLARK

BODY FOUND

"I think that resolves the matter nicely," Lisa calmly assessed. "Unless there are any doubts either of you two would care to voice?"

Luna, of course, was out of the game since her astronaut was currently taking a life break.

"I-I never really thought it was you!" Lola spluttered, then regained her composure. "It was just that you brought up the idea that I could be the imposter and I know that-"

"Lisa?" Lucy's voice dryly cut through Lola desperate babble. "You're the only one who is proven innocent. Who do you choose to condemn?"

"Lucy!" Lola gasped.

"No, she's quite correct." Lisa assessed. "There are only three players left, and of them only I am confirmed to be innocent by 'Copper Loud's' own hands-"

"You know it's not me then right!" Lola gave desperate laugh. "I mean, the only murder I might be suss for is Lana's because I did it one time in a game before, but Lucy?

I mean; you laid out the evidence yourself- she's dripping with suss for Luan and Lori's murders!"

PNKPRINCES VOTED

Lucy's calm voice pierced the call, "perhaps, but I believe that Lisa will discover the truth of my innocence."

"Your faith in my abilities is noted and appreciated Lucy." Lisa's satisfied ego oozed through the speakers of all who listened. "And will be well rewarded, for I am already well aware of who the killer must be."

There was a slurping sound as the genius pointedly took a sip of some coffee substitute in the comfort of her bunker.

"… Well who is it?" Lola hissed, anxious for acquittal or execution. "I mean- I know it's Lucy but-"

"Lucy is innocent." Lisa cut her off.

"I'm glad to see your judgment has not been clouded by the mists of bias, dear sister." Lucy sighed in relief.

"But it's not-"

"I'm aware that you are also innocent Lola, rest assure in that knowledge." Lisa took another sip of 'coffee'.

"… Then why is the game still going?" Lola asked in confusion, "who killed Lincoln!?"

"Oh that question is a simple matter to answer," Lisa finished her mug. "I am the one who bisected our Brother Unit, as well as finished off all others who did not reach their demise at either Lynn or the mob's hands."

There was silence as the two other girls processed the revelation.

"But… how?" Lucy drew in a shaky breath. "Luna gun should have killed you."

"Oh that little conundrum?" Lisa snorted. "The so called 'Sheriff' is no more immune to the Imposter's killing abilities than any other crewmate, and has the same external death animation if they are killed by a metaphorical misfire or by said Imposters own choosing.

Add in that the Imposter's cooldown timer is always less than The Sheriff's, all I had to do once Luna foolishly accepted my challenge was count out an extra fourteen seconds after my own cooldown had completed. Then, activate the ability just before Luna would have activated her own knowing the difference would certainly be unnoticed, allowing for an easy end to my greatest potential enemy and ensuring my innocence in the eyes of the remaining crewmates."

Eight screens darkened to reveal a defeat and sullen disappointment echoed throughout the house mixed with grudging respect for the skill of the ploy that had beaten them, simultaneously mixing with Lynn's whoop of joy. Meanwhile, down in her bunker a very smug little girl happily poured herself another mug of coffee substitute as victory appeared upon hers.

"Ahh… the irreplaceable taste of victory is the most satisfying condiment of all." She slurped up her tasty treat. "If only a Familial Unit had stumbled across Leni's body, then I might have had a challenge."
