Chapter 3- Leaving L.A

The group sat around a fire outside L.A. From the distance they could see the city. The sun was beginning to set. Westley looks at the outline of the large building of the city. Kyra grabs the camera out of the backpack, beside it was her shotgun. She points the camera at Westley.

"It has been 16 days since we started filming. We are just outside of Los Angeles, and there has been no activity. We haven't seen anyone or any infected," Westley says to the camera.

"What are we chopped liver?" Billy asks.

"You don't want to be on camera," Kyra states. She points the camera at the outline of the city. Billy was about to speak when they heard a loud crash in the sky. They all turn and look as bombs start to fall onto L.A. Billy starts up as the city starts to explode.

Kyra gasps. "Oh my god!" Travis says slowly.

Westley looks at the fire explosions in the city. "They actually did it. All those people… Dead," he says.

Kyra continues to film the city. Large clouds of smoke float up from the ruins of the city. They could see an orangish-red glow from the city. Billy opens the duffel bag with the guns and pulls out two rifles. He loads them and gives one to Daniel before he shuts the bag and puts it around his back. "We gotta go," Billy says.

"It's still night," Alicia says.

"Doesn't matter. They blew up the city, now they are going to find people outside of it," Billy says to her.

"He's right. They will kill us, we need to go," Westley says. He looks at Kyra who is still filming, "Now!" he says with a more raised voice.

Kyra looks at him and then turns off the camera. She puts the camera in the bag. She grabs her shotgun. She puts on the backpack and looks at the others.

Westley grabs the bag of food and water and puts the strap on his shoulder. He grabs his machete with his right hand. He checks his hip for his holstered pistol. "Listen to me, if we run into anybody you all hang back and let Daniel and I deal with it. We can do what needs to be done if necessary," Billy says.

"Understood," Travis says.

"You mean like killing them?" Nick asks.

"What do you think!" Chris snaps.

"We should go, that explosion is going to attract the dead, like a moth and a flame," Westley says.

Kyra looks back at the city. "Yes, we need to get the hell away from the city," she says. Billy nods as he starts to walk away from the city,

An hour later. The group is walking on a dirt road. Westley walks beside Nick. Kyra walks on Nick's other side. Travis walks next to Chris and Strand. Billy walks in the front with Daniel and Ofelia is in the back with Alicia. Billy and Daniel both had their weapons in their hands ready to defend themselves at any given moment.

Westley sees a man in a black suit, his left arm covered in blood and tears. The man's right cheek was missing revealing his teeth. The man was bald this part of his scalp ripped, causing some of it to hang loosely. "I got it," Westley states. He rushes over to the man and swings the machete; decapitating the man. He walks back and stops next to Kyra.

"Tip by the way. Taking off the head works, but they can still bite you with just their head so take out the brain," Billy says.

Westley nods. He looks at Kyra who is looking forward as she walks. "Well, now we know for sure that we aren't going to flunk class," he says with a smirk.

"Uh, yeah," Kyra replies.

"I wasted my money coming here. I wonder how Rick is doing?" Billy says to himself.

Westley looks forward. Five minutes later they hear a loud engine and the sound of tires rolling over the rocks on the dirt road. Westley looks around, they start to see headlights from afar.

"Oh crap!" Nick blurts. Billy looks at the tall grass beside them.

"Down," He says as he motions them into the grass. He watches as they all lay down, and he lays down beside Daniel and makes sure his gun is loaded. "Nobody moves besides us too," Billy tells them as Daniel lays by him.

"You sure you can do this?" Daniel asks.

"Yeah," Billy says.

Westley lays in the grass beside Kyra. His heart beats faster as he waits for the vehicle to pass them. Daniel looks at Billy.

"If they stop we wait for them to show themselves, and we open fire," Daniel says. Billy nods.

A large military Humvee stops. Two men get out, they have large rifles in their hands. Their lights on their helmets are on as they look around the area. "Footprints!" a man shouts.

"You know the orders, kill anything that moves; Infected or not," the other man says. Billy looks at Daniel who nods. Billy and Daniel raise their guns and shoot the two men in the chest. They fall to the ground and the two stand-up and run over to them. The two men reach for their weapons as Daniel and Billy get over to them. They step on their chest. The two men grunt as the two kick the weapons away.

Westley gets off the ground and walks over to them. He looks into the windows of the Humvee. "Nobody else, just those two," Westley tells the others. Daniel nods as he reaches down and takes off the first man helmet. He looks at the mounted agenda on top of the Humvee.

"Anything in that?" Daniel asks as he holds the gun on the man's head and Billy takes off the other man's helmet.

Kyra comes up to Westley with the camera; she's recording. Westley looks at the camera and Kyra. Westley opens the passenger side door and leans in. "The keys aren't inside!" he yells.

"Which one of you has the keys?" Billy asks.

Westley gets out of the Humvee. He looks at Kyra before walking to Billy and Daniel. "G-go to hell," one of the men mumbles. Daniel presses the gun up to his head.

"Your death can either be slow or fast. What do you think it feels like to have those the dead's teeth in your skin as the pull the skin from your body," Daniel says.

The man starts to laugh. "We're all dead anyways," he says. The man grabs the keys out of his pocket.

"Why don't you hand those over," Billy says to him.

The man hands Billy the keys. They all start to hear a moan, a woman was shuffling towards them. She was missing an eye and most of her left arm.

"We need to go!" Westley says.

Kyra points the camera at the woman. Westley motions to the others to come out. Billy shoots the man in the head and turns the gun and shoots the woman in the head. "Hurry up, Daniel," Billy says. Daniel shoots the man in the head. "Let's search these guys quickly,"

Westley covers the camera lens and Kyra turns off the camera. "Will we all fit?" Strand asks as he looks at the Humvee.

"I hope so," Westley replies. He grabs the camera from Kyra and puts it in her backpack. "We all should fit, it's a large vehicle.

"These vehicles carry 8-10 adults. We should all fit," Billy says as he pulls the man's knife and gun off of him. Daniel pulls a map off the man.

"Looks like our friend may have left us a present," Daniel says. Billy chuckles as he follows Daniel over to the Humvee hood. Daniel puts the map down and lets Billy look at it. There was a circle around an area.

"What's there?" Daniel asks.

"Abandoned warehouses mainly. This is to far from the city to be the main crew. I would say this is clear," Billy says.

"We should be able to clear a few men with this car and we can kill them," Daniel says.

"This could be a gold mine," Billy says to Daniel who nods.

"Nice map," Travis says as he walks over to the two.

Westley looks at Kyra and the two walk over to Travis and the other two. Billy motions the others out of the grass. They leave the grass and come to stand by Billy and Daniel. "Looks like we got our first stop on our way to Georgia," Billy says as he holds the map up.

"We should be able to find more vehicles, weapons, and other supplies," Daniel says.

"Then what are we waiting for?" Travis says.
