Seth heard the door close downstairs. He knew Glen must have left and that Jessica was down there alone. For some reason Seth couldn't make himself leave the comfort of the bedroom. It had been a long time since he felt this scared, almost afraid to move or breathe.
Jessica had become his everything and in the past few months their relationship went from plutonic to love. It was a bumpy road getting there and they almost lost each other due to a lack of communication.
Now they were a couple even though they still maintained their own residence. Oh, it wasn't a friends with benefits arrangement. They loved each other and made love to each other but they also kept an independence they gained after losing their spouses.
The front door quietly closed, and Seth knew Jessica had left. He had to snap out of this, he had a couple of patients to see today.
Throughout the day Seth went through the motions. He was so melancholy that he skipped dinner and went to bed. All day the thoughts went rushing through his head. He wished he could talk to Jessica but he just felt he couldn't. Something inside him made him feel embarrassed, almost as if he couldn't look her in the eye.
He knew what the feeling was, and he hated to think about. Suddenly the memories came flooding back to him. It was Memorial Day, 1943. Seth, Tim, Ellen and Patty all gathered at the beach for a picnic. Seth and Tim were roommates at the University of Southern Maine in Portland. They met Ellen and Patty shortly after the Fall semester started and the couples double dated quite often.
Seth and Ellen became inseparable and Seth loved to share with Ellen his dream of becoming a doctor. She often mentioned what it would be like to be his wife. However, life had not been easy for the young men of America since the war began.
A few months before he started USM, Seth had signed up for the new draft. The country just changed the age from 21 to 18 and Seth had been quite eager to fight for his country since Pearl Harbor occurred.
While a freshman at USM, Seth participated in a testing program for the Army Specialized Training Program. The Army was looking for young men on campuses across the country. Seth passed with flying colors and didn't hear anything until the Spring of 1943 when he was assigned to boot camp.
This Memorial Day celebration would be his last hurrah before he left and he wanted to make it a special one. The couples spent the day sunbathing, swimming, playing hand ball and finishing off the day with a clambake and bonfire.
The couples snuggled against each other as the night cooled off considerably. Suddenly Tim and Patty grabbed a blanket and walked around a rocky outcropping and were out of site.
Tim and Seth had planned this secretly, hours before. It gave Seth a chance to be alone with Ellen, which is what he wanted.
"I'm going to miss you so much." He said into her hair as he held her close to him.
"I don't know what I'm going to do without you."
"Well, I hope you'll write me plenty of letters to keep me company," Seth responded.
He looked down at her and gave her a tender kiss. "I'll write to you every day, I promise." Seth smiled at the thought. Ellen could hear Seth's heart beat faster.
"Ellen, can I ask you something?"
"Of course," she sounded a little nervous.
Seth looked her straight in the eye, "I love you, very much. I don't know where I'll be sent after my training but I'm going to do everything I can to come back to you safely. When I do, I want us to get married. Will you marry me?"
She shook her head rapidly, "I do. It's what I've always wanted to hear you say." They kissed in excitement and Seth was almost brought to tears.
Ellen made such a difference in his life. After the heartbreak he experienced with Molly he thought he would never love again. That is, until he met Ellen.
The two of them were caught up in the romantic moment and Ellen brought Seth down on top of her. Their kisses became more intense and Ellen guided Seth's hand under her sweatshirt and the bathing suit top she was wearing underneath.
Seth broke the kiss, "wait, wait Ellen. Maybe we shouldn't be doing this."
Ellen looked into his hazel eyes, "I want to do this. Who knows when we'll get an opportunity like this again. Besides, we're going to be married. I want to send you off with a memory you can hold onto during those lonely nights in the barracks."
Seth smiled back and continued the petting. He opened his mouth and Ellen did the same, allowing for more sensual kissing. Ellen was the first woman he ever "frenched" and it made his blood boil. Ellen took off her sweatshirt and bathing suit top. Seth inhaled deeply.
He began to feel the soft mounds under his hands and began to kiss and suckle them. Truth be told, Seth was always a gentleman and Ellen was the first woman he ever made out with. Even on those nights, it was not nearly as passionate as it was tonight, but they were going to be married and he did lover her. That made the difference.
He quickly developed an erection and Ellen was not surprised by this. Seth did away with his sweatshirt and Ellen ran her fingers along the small tuft of hair along his sternum. There moans were mixed between their smoldering kisses.
"Ellen, I can't wait much longer. I need you, now," he panted.
He reached down and pulled away at her bathing suit bottom and tossed it in the sand. Then Seth unbuttoned his pants and lowered them along with his boxers.
"Seth," she moaned, "you're my first."
He continued to kiss her. "I've heard that some women feel a discomfort the first time so if I hurt you in any way, let me know." She agreed and Seth stopped his kissing. He kneeled and brought Ellen closer to his pelvis. She adjusted her legs and Seth entered her slowly. She gasped slightly at the pain which caused Seth to stop. He almost wanted to stop it all as the squeal nearly broke his heart.
"It's okay, Seth. Don't stop, I want this to happen."
Seth took a much slower approach to his technique but found himself quickening more and more. Ellen had gotten used to the feeling and the squeal turned into passionate moans. Seth joined her, he had never felt anything so exciting and exhilarating in his life. It didn't take him long to reach his climax and he shuttered with each last few thrusts. He caught his breath and pulled up his shorts and pants. He grabbed one of the beach towels and gently covered Ellen's lower body as he laid on the blanket and held her close. She too was panting.
"Seth. I never knew what to expect but it was the most beautiful experience of my life. I'm glad we made this choice."
"Me too. I love you Ellen, I always will."
Seth dreamt all night and woke up to the morning sun, brightly shining through the partially shaded window.
He got out of bed and made a decision, he had to speak with Jessica.
