The evening went really well for Chris and Luca. They had a lot of fun with the trainees and Luca hadn't seen Chris so happy in a long time. She drank Coke and seemed satisfied with it. Although some students drank alcohol, she declined and could resist. Sometimes she found it harder, then easier.
It was just before 11:00 p.m. and they were about to leave when it got loud. " What's wrong now?" Chris asked. " This looks like a raid. " Luca replied. " Everybody stay calm, everybody stay seated, this is a raid. " 10 armed policemen shouted. The students looked at each other and were all a little startled. They had never witnessed anything like this before. Chris gestured with her hands for them to sit quietly and everything was fine. She and Luca were the calm themselves. The police officers walked the individual tables and searched the bags of the guests. When they got to Chris and Luca's table the two had their LAPD badges out. " Ah the colleagues from L. A. hello everyone. " the officer-in-charge said. "We are here with our trainees and were just about to leave. Can we help you?" Luca wanted to know. The man smiled somewhat arrogantly and said no. The whole thing lasted two hours and they were stuck there. Chris started to get impatient, she was tired and wanted to go to bed. " So I don't know Luca, with us in L. A. it looks kind of more professional. " she grinned at him, he grinned back and just shrugged his shoulders. " Can't everyone be as good as us. " By now it was after 1:00 a.m. The raid was without results and was finally broken up again.
Street was still at work and was on the verge of going crazy. He was restless inside and had the feeling that he had a pulse of 300. In the dressing room he went up and down and talked to himself. "Everything is all right. Chris is fine, I know that. She's probably asleep, and she just forgot to write. Shit, what if she's asleep, drunk, somewhere with someone, doing god knows what. No, definitely not. She's not gonna be lying anywhere, in a ditch or anywhere else. I'm going to go crazy. " he was running around, he knew nothing to do with himself. " Puh Street pull yourself together. All is well". " Are you all right?" he heard from behind. Street turned and looked into Tan's confused eyes. " You're talking to yourself. You're scaring me, buddy. " he said. " You scared me. Did Chris get in touch with you?" Now Tan became worried. " No, why would she? What happened? Tell me? "I just don't know. She went out for a drink with her students at 8:00 p.m. Now it's already after 1:00 a.m. and she promised to call me when she gets back to the hotel. Luca's not answering his phone either. I'm spinning Tan. Something must have happened. " Street spoke so fast that Tan could hardly follow him. " Hey, calm down. Sit down, you're driving me crazy. We need to keep our cool. " They sat on the bench and were silent. " There is certainly a very plausible explanation why neither she nor Luca is contacting us. " Street was at his throat almost immediately. " Yes! Because she's lost and alone somewhere or in the hospital or worse." " Street, stop imagining the worst and call her again. " "Again? I think she has over 30 missed calls on her phone from me already. I'm starting to feel like a stalker. " Tan took a deep breath. " Okay, I'll call her. " He dialed her number and it rang.
"Hey Tan, is everything okay? Do you know what time it is here in Berlin?" " Chris, thank God!" Street had already snatched the phone out of Tan“s hand. " Chris! Chris?" " Yes Street, it's still me. " and suddenly, as if struck by lightning, it came back to her. " Oh, shit. I should have called you. . . Shit, Street sorry. There was a raid here and they kept us. " " Are you okay?" was the only thing he could ask. His hands were shaking and he was afraid of her answer. " Yeah, I'm fine. I've been drinking nothing but Coke all night. " he exhaled deeply and a sigh of relief escaped him. " You know I was worried about you. I thought something happened. What about Luca? I can't reach him either. " " Luca's with me. I had taken him with me, for safety. " Now all the tension fell off him and he handed Tan the phone. "Hey, it's Tan again. Street needs a few minutes. The poor guy has almost gone mad. " Tan couldn't help but laugh. " Yeah, yeah. Go ahead and make fun of me. I almost died of a heart attack. " Street theatrically exclaimed. Since Chris was on speakerphone, Tan had heard everything. " Oh poor Street. " she said now, laughing. " But hey, I'm really sorry, but I couldn't write or call. " " It's okay, as long as you, meaning both of you are okay. " Tan said now also relieved. " Chris?" it came again from Street. " Yes?" " Don't scare me like that again, okay? Now make sure you get back to the hotel in one piece. Sleep well and say hello to Luca. " " Good night guys and you have another quiet shift. " Chris replied.
The next morning Luca and Chris went to breakfast. Luca noticed that she was calmer than the last few days and lost in thoughts. " I think I'll take the pancakes with kohlrabi and raspberries. " he said with a raised eyebrow. "Yes, that sounds good. " Chris said silently. "Hey, Chris! You're not listening to me at all! What's going on?" She looked at him a little frightened and smiled. " I'm just tired after yesterday's long day. " She lied. He didn't believe a word she said. While they ate their breakfast, he tried again. " Chris, what's the matter with you? I can see you've been different since tonight. Somehow calmer, and you're thinking a lot. What's on your mind?" he spoke empathetically. She let out a long sigh and shrugged her shoulders. " Oh, Luca, I'm. . . I'm confused. I can't think straight at the moment. " She looked him in the eyes and he saw her helplessness. He put his hand on hers. "You know you can trust me Chris and I'm always here for you. " " I know Luca and I appreciate it. " she smiled at him. " It has to do with Street, am I right?" Chris, who was taking a sip of coffee, choked and had to cough. " How did -" he interrupted her. " I've known you for a few years now, and after what I overheard tonight, I had a hunch. What was his crime?" She swallowed. " Nothing, really. Oh man I'm not myself Luca. He's driving me crazy. " She told him everything. From the kiss four years ago to his confession of love after Erika's death. " Oh that's wild. " Luca let out surprised. " The worst part is that I have feelings for him too. " Chris almost whispered that sentence. " When he is near me my heart races, then on the one hand I feel insanely safe, on the other hand I am afraid. Afraid of becoming weak and I feel bad because I know how he feels and I can't give it back to him. " she looked sadly at her plate. " I know about your rule, Chris, but is it worth your unhappiness? That Street's unhappy? I saw from the beginning that there was a special bond between you, even if you would have liked to kill him in the beginning. " he laughed and Chris couldn't stop herself from joining. " But you made him the person he is today. You trust each other 100% and honestly, I've been waiting for a long time to see you two work this out. " Luca, that with us will never work. We're on the same team, he's a cop, it's not possible. " Easy, Chris. The two reasons you just told me are so unimportant. " now she looked at him with a questioning look. " The team is your family, I know, but in order for you to be together, only one of you would have to go to Rocker. . . " Chris tried to interrupt him. " Wait, please let me finish. If either of you were with Rocker, he'd still be in our family. If you ask me you are just looking for excuses. . . Don't always let your head rule you Chris. Let Street into your heart and see what happens. " " That's what I'm afraid of, Luca. And besides, he's been in my heart for a long time. " He squeezed her hand again. "Think again. " Chris was more confused but Luca's words did help and it felt good to finally talk to someone about Street. She knew it couldn't go on like this.
The fourth week had begun and Chris was totally enjoying her time in Berlin. Every few days she would text with Tan or Street so they could be reassured and have their minds fully on the job. So slowly she was looking forward to home again, to her team, to work, to her Uncle Sarzo and yes, she was even looking forward to Street. If she was honest with herself, she missed him.
The end of the training and their stay in Germany had come. The trainees were very grateful to Chris and Luca. They had learned a lot from the two of them and were enthusiastic about their manner and competence. After saying goodbye they headed to the airport.
Tan and Street were already waiting for their friends at the airport. They didn't hesitate to drive out there and pick them up personally. " Now their plane has landed Tan. " Street was stating almost ecstatic. " I saw Street. " Tan rolled his eyes and laughed. "Taaaaaaan, Streeeeeeet." Luca ran up to them and took them in his arms. " Man guys I've missed you. " he was beaming. Street had already turned his gaze to Chris. She stood there and smiled at him. He detached himself from Lucas embrace, ran up to her and embraced her as tightly as he could. " Hi, it's good to have you back". " Hey Street, nice to be home again. " Chris breathed in his scent deeply. After that it was Tan's turn and then the four made their way home. " You don't know how much Chris and I have to tell you. " Tan and Street looked at each other. " This is going to be a very long evening. " Tan said and everyone joined in his laughter.
