"Alex, my flight leaves in an hour. You're lucky I got your page before I left the hospital building." Jo exclaimed as she stuffed her briefcase full of files.

Alex could feel the slight hostility coming from her, he wasn't surprised after how things had gone down the previous day. He was glad Jackson wasn't with her. "Where's your bodyguard?"

Jo rolled her eyes at him. "You know jealousy never did suit you, Karev. What's this about?"

"Just wanted to see how you're doing." He had made his choice when he decided to stay with Izzie and he had made peace with it, but it didn't mean he didn't care about Jo anymore.

"Oh, you mean after you lied to me about staying with your mom, and then sent me a breakup letter? If you would have asked me my feelings a few months ago, my answer would have been totally different, but now? Now I'm not sad or angry. I'm confident, confident that I'm a great doctor, confident that my medical training equips me to handle a pandemic, and more importantly confident that you NEVER deserved me." Jo retorted.

"I'm sorry," it was all that he could say, not expecting this answer from her. "I didn't know how to tell you-" she interrupted him.

"That's a shitty excuse and you know it. I waited to hear from you for a month. No call, no text, a letter."

"I fucked up, I know," he said, taking a deep breath. "I'm sorry I hurt you."

"Alex, you don't get it. I know you're sorry, I believe you. The thing is though, I don't need your sympathy or permission to move on. So, I know you're sorry, and I'm sorry you feel guilty. However, I've made peace and I'm slowly moving forward. The thing I realize now is... You were once my dream, the sun to my moon, the one person that held the key to my joy. Now I realize you were never my sun. I was. I am my sun, and that's what matters." Jo picked her briefcase and headed toward the hospital exit. Before leaving she pushed up her sunglasses and took one last look at her ex. "Goodbye Alex." Jo walked into the light of day, as the hospital doors closed behind her.
