Whoosh! The cold breeze doesn't let me sleep so I wake up. I see Katniss, she's awake and it's almost midnight. What is she doing so late in the night?
I crawl, take a deep breath and sit beside her.
She smiles, and asks me, "Feeling better?" I nod. I know she wants me to share what happened earlier in the day. I go and get my dairy. She looks at the diary, confused.
"Let's do some art, okay?" As I say that I write in the diary. 'Use this diary - to talk. Pretend to do the art in it, okay?'
She's a little confused but she shows me a thumbs up. "Why don't you draw something that you really like?" I give her the diary.
"Okay!" she declares with excitement. After a few minutes when she is done, she shows me her drawing. There's a girl with a smile and she looks somewhat like me. Below that drawing I see something written, I think it's her question. It states 'The dairy story please. What happened earlier? Real reason??'
I smile and demand, "Who's that?" She reveals, "That's my sister. She is 12 years old, just like you". I can't stop myself from smiling. "Why don't you draw something that you really like too?"
I grab the diary and draw the beautiful Mockingjay that she has on her collar. After I am done drawing, I wonder if I should really tell her everything? I mean if she had to kill me, she could have done so earlier when I was crying and ate whatever she gave me. There were many chances but she didn't. So, I decided to trust her. I write the answer to her questions. 'Diary - Mother gave- met last time. Crying reason - miss father, Capitol killed him. I was eight. A boy, Martin worked with me.' "Are you done?" she asks eagerly and to avoid suspicion. I smile at her and plead, "One more minute please, I'm not that good at drawing". I continue to write. 'M- tried to keep see-in-the-dark glasses - to play them- Peacekeepers shot in head. Father- pissed off- how could they kill for silly glasses- Father argued- Got shot in his head.' Tears collect in my eyes as I write that and give it to Katniss. Katniss stares at the diary for a few seconds. "The Mockingjay looks real to me. You are really good at drawing!" she remarks. I smile, and she continues reading. She doesn't mention my father even once. Instead, she tells me the story of the Mockingjay pin and I share why the Mockingjay is close to me. Later, instead of writing, she tells me what happened with her father when she was 11 years old but she is strong unlike me. She doesn't cry while she talks about her father. After we are done talking, we discuss how we can first get rid of the Career so that we can have a lead. When we have a plan, Katniss hugs me tightly and whispers, "Stay with me". We sleep together and for the first time in the Hunger Games, I feel safe.
