~Sleepy Nights: Part 1~

The princess stirred slightly in her sleep, her tranquil state broken by no other than her own subconscious. Ever since awakening her powers, she kept seeing visions of something she couldn't quite remember when waking, familiar faces flashing before her only to be forgotten in a mere instant. No matter how hard Elizabeth tried she could never remember the contents of her dreams. But one thing would always remain - a voice. A voice that seemed all too familiar.

'I would never break a promise. Never.'

Her eyes snap open, the rest of her body remaining still. Once again the princess could not remember who had said those words, nor could she match a face to it. All she could remember was the sound of that voice, the audio damaged by memory and distortion. Dreams and memories that seemed out of place.

"The same dream again..." The words leave in a silent whisper, the princess freezing as she felt an unfamiliar weight and warmth on her form.

Well unfamiliar would be the wrong word to use, but Elizabeth couldn't help but feel as if it was. After all, it wasn't exactly normal to be in the position she was in. She could already see the looks of disapproval from her father, although to her defense she wasn't doing anything wrong. She was only sharing sleeping quarters with the infamous Dragon Sin. That coincidentally also meant they shared a bed too...heh.

Figures.

Blue eyes glanced downwards to confirm her suspicions and the princess was correct. The foreign weight and warmth was coming from the Sin himself, the blonde looking oddly peaceful for once instead of lively or sincere. His green eyes were hidden from view, dark blonde lashes framing his eyelids. The Sin's arms were wrapped around her frame, strong and reassuring despite the relaxed expression on his face. Sculpted muscles met her gaze, golden hair resting just below her chin as the rest of the owner's head lain right on her full chest.

'He's sleeping on my chest!' Elizabeth reddened, thankful that she was the only one awake. If it had gone differently, then she may had actually been caught freaking out. 'Oh goddesses help me! Why did I have to wake up!'

As the princess thought this, the blonde stirred slightly. His arms then fell down to her waist, hands squeezing lightly against her hips, as he nuzzled against her. A small squeak left at this, Elizabeth left unable to move nor function. While it was not uncommon for Sir Meliodas to grope Elizabeth, the princess had never actually expected him to be like this in his sleep. In fact the princess often slept through the nights, never waking until morning and by then Sir Meliodas was already awake.

However tonight had been an anomaly, the timid princess left panicking as she thought of what to do with the man who was in very close proximity to herself.

'Ok, ok calm down...' The princess released an internal sigh, closing her eyes as she tried to calm her racing heart. 'Try to think of something that would help you fall back asleep.'

Elizabeth frowned slightly, her mind trying to think of things to fall asleep to but finding nothing that would work. Counting sheep never worked; nor did just laying there and staring at a ceiling. Plus the princess was trying to forget that there was currently a man lying on her chest so counting and staring was not an option.

But as Elizabeth thought, the princess couldn't help but study some of the blonde's sleepy features. After all she only ever saw him wide awake, Sir Meliodas often waking before her. She was curious to see what he looked like at what's considered the most tranquil and relaxed a person can ever be. So despite her mind protesting it, Elizabeth's eyes begun to wonder.

She had always known that Sir Meliodas looked rather youthful, however it showed a little more when he was asleep. The princess could clearly make out how his face had not been hardened or lined by age, his tanned skin not at all wrinkled. It was pretty unscarred too, surprising since people often had the odd nick but Sir Meliodas had nothing. Not a scratch. His messy blonde hair was even more wild in its ruffled bedhead state; his head buried within her chest as if they were a pillow while he peacefully slept through her silent watching.

Then there was the tattoo on his arm. The one of the animal that represented his sin; the tattoo of the dragon.

Elizabeth paused at the tattoo, blue eyes studying it intently as she gulped slightly. There had been many times when the princess had caught a glimpse of the mark, sleeves being something that are always likely to be damaged in battle, but she had never had a chance to see it so up close. To be able to trace the very lines of the tattoo.

Right now Elizabeth couldn't see it all that well, the position of the Sin's arms obscuring her view; this dissatisfied her curiosity. As a result Elizabeth took a risky move and decided to move his arm. Gingerly, the princess grabbed Sir Meliodas' arm surprised that it didn't actually feel as tough as she'd imagined. Instead it felt like any other arm would feel, perhaps a little harder but that was because of the extra muscle. Nevertheless Elizabeth was a little stunned at herself, freezing slightly but knowing that she had to complete the job now she had started it.

So taking a deep breath, the princess moved the blonde's arm to properly study the dragon mark upon it. It was in a perfect loop, the dragon's head devouring its tail and continuing the link for what seemed like eternity. There were circles at intervals perhaps representing sections of the dragon's body, the head being the most detailed part of the design. Elizabeth could see the pointed teeth coming from the creature's jaws, the whole thing looking like a silhouette.

However despite that, Elizabeth felt that the tattoo matched Sir Meliodas pretty well. It looked simplistic and yet also intricate, the princess noting how there must be an important meaning behind it. A meaning that went a lot deeper than the fact that Sir Meliodas was the Dragon Sin of Wrath. It looked too intentional to be shallow, but perhaps Elizabeth was wrong. Maybe it was just that.

A smile brewing on her lips at the thought, Elizabeth couldn't help but feel a little sleepy. Her eyes fluttered slightly, a slight yawn escaping as she returned Sir Meliodas' embrace. She was now being pulled back into her dreams, something seeming a little different about them as she thought of the dragon and its eternal loop. The eternal loop and its dragon.

One day she'd have to ask Sir Meliodas about the tattoo... One day.
