4: get out!
"Just because there's a power outage, that doesn't mean that this apartment is haunted," Gajeel said with a sigh as he watched Levy stand on a chair and on her tippy toes to hang her talismans all over the room.
"Think about it! Right when I was talking about the ghost, the power went off! The ghost is mad!" Levy cried.
"Next, you're gonna go on about getting a Ouija Board just so you could talk to the ghost," Gajeel grumbled as he laid on his back on the floor.
"Good idea!" Levy cried.
"Don't take it seriously!" Gajeel cried.
"Come on! We're going out to buy a Ouija Board!" Levy cried, grabbing her jacket that was conveniently laying on the couch.
"I was joking! Besides, where do you even get a Ouija Board?" Gajeel cried.
Levy slipped on her sneakers off the shoe rack that was next to the front door. "The convenience store, right?"
"You don't even know yourself," Gajeel said.
"At least unlike you with your phone problem, I know where to start looking. I don't have to make some posters," Levy said.
"Wow! You did not just go there!" Gajeel cried.
Levy grabbed his leg and started to drag him to the door. "Come on! We need to get the Ouija Board so we can talk to the ghost!"
"Ahhh! No! I refuse!" Gajeel yelled, grabbing onto anything he could.
"So you're okay with staying in the dark with a ghost all by yourself!?" Levy cried as she continued dragging him across the room.
"So be it!" Gajeel cried.
"I won't let you get possessed or cursed or anything! I'm doing you a favor!" Levy cried.
Suddenly, they heard knocking on the door. Levy and Gajeel looked at each other.
"Are you expecting anyone?" Levy asked.
Gajeel shook his head. "Are you?"
"No," Levy answered.
"You should see who it is. And let go of my leg," Gajeel suggested.
"But...what if it's the ghost making sounds to haunt us...?" Levy whispered.
"It's not the ghost because there are no such thing of them in the first place," Gajeel reassured her.
Pouting, Levy finally let Gajeel's leg go free. Then, she dug into her bookbag. "Other than talismans, that shaman gave me a bag of red beans. According to her, red beans are painful to ghosts."
She pulled the zip-lock bag of red beans she was talking about and scurried over to the door. Then, she slowly opened the door. The minute the door was opened, she threw handfuls of the beans at whoever was on the other side. "Please! Don't haunt us! Just go to the afterlife! You'll be happy there!"
"Shrimp!" Gajeel yelled, getting her attention.
Levy stopped throwing the beans and saw that the person she was throwing the beans at didn't look like he was in pain. In fact, he was trying to collect all of the beans.
"Thanks for the free food!" The person cried.
Levy looked at Gajeel.
"See? No ghost," Gajeel told her with a sigh.
Feeling guilty, Levy reached out and tapped the man on the shoulder. "Um, would you like the rest of this?"
"Ooh, yes!" The man cried, grabbing the bag.
"What brings you here?" Levy asked.
"Oh," the guy cleared his throat. "I'm here to let you know that there's a team working on the power as we speak so in the meantime, here's a candle." The man grabbed the large back that was sitting somewhat to the side of the door and pulled out a candle.
Levy put her hands over her heart, feeling both touched and a stronger surge of guilt. "You didn't have to! That's so sweet!"
The guy smile and held his hand out. "$5."
"$5," Levy repeated.
The guy nodded.
Levy heartlessly closed the door on his face and was introduced to the darkness in their apartment.
Damn, the people in this building are making money through all sorts of ways. I kinda...respect that, Gajeel thought as he sat up.
Levy walked over to the window and drew back the curtains, allowing the moonlight and the city lights to flood in. Then, she turned on her flashlight on her phone and placed her phone on the middle of the floor. Finally, she pulled out her laptop and sat on the coffee table.
"What are you doing?" Gajeel asked, scooting close to Levy.
"I have a paper to do. It won't save so when I'm done, I'll take a picture. That way when the power comes back on, I can just copy what I had," Levy answered, opening her laptop.
Gajeel looked at what Levy was doing over her shoulders. At first, Levy didn't mind, but the more she typed, the more she minded.
Levy turned to look at Gajeel. "Can you please move away?"
"I'm bored though," Gajeel said.
"Go play with the pigeons outside," Levy told him, turning back to her laptop.
"But I don't want to," Gajeel said.
"Then leave me alone," Levy said.
Gajeel stood up and crossed his arms. First, he paced back and forth. Then, he did some pushups. After, he did jumping jacks.
Levy looked up from her laptop and sent a dark glare at him, causing him to stop immediately and a chill to run down his spine. She went back to work when it was clear he got the message.
Gajeel sat back down and crossed his arms. Then, he got an idea. "Yo, shrimp."
"What...?" Levy asked, barely paying attention.
"Did you hear that?" Gajeel asked.
"Here what...?" Levy asked.
"I don't know...but it's not coming from me. It's not coming from you either," Gajeel answered before dramatically gasping. "Could it be from the ghost you were talking about?"
Levy closed her laptop and stood up. "I told you so! There's a ghost in this apartment!"
Gajeel laughed. Levy watched him, absolutely confused.
"Why are you laughing?" Levy asked as Gajeel wiped a tear that had slipped out from how hard he was laughing.
"I didn't here anything, I was just playing with you!" Gajeel cried, laughing.
"What!? Gajeel!" Levy yelled.
She grabbed her sneakers she had just slipped off and threw them at Gajeel. Then, she grabbed any object she could find and threw them at Gajeel.
"Ahhhh! I'm sorry! Chill!" Gajeel yelled as he dodged the objects.
Levy pointed at the door. "Out!"
"You're kicking me out!?" Gajeel cried.
"And take off your clothes except for your boxers!" Levy cried.
"Shrimp, you can't do this to me!" Gajeel cried, crawling over to her.
Levy kicked her leg a little, threatening to kick him if he came closer. Gajeel stopped where he was and blocked his face.
"Fine! I'll leave!" Gajeel cried, standing up.
"And strip too! Leave the boxers on!" Levy cried.
"Why are you doing this to me?" Gajeel grumbled as he slipped out of his clothes.
Once everything but his boxers were on the floor, Gajeel dragged his feet over to the front door. With his hand on the knob, he looked back at Levy and sent her an innocent pout.
Levy crossed her arms and rose an eyebrow.
Gajeel sighed and opened the door. He then closed the door once he was on the other side and leaned his back against it.
"No ones ever done this to me...who would even dare to do this to me...? They know that I'd kill them in 2 seconds flat if they did this...Shrimp, I'm only letting you do this to me because I'm bored," he grumbled, rubbing his arms. The nighttime air was colder than he expected. And it happened to be windy.
Suddenly, he heard bickering coming from the stairs. The bickering sounded like it was coming closer.
Shit! People are gonna see me like this! Gajeel realized. He looked around the hallway for a hiding spot before deducting that there was no place for him to hid. As a result, he banged on his apartment door.
"Shrimp! Let me in!" Gajeel whined as he banged on the door.
The door opened, revealing an annoyed Levy. She looked at him up and down before shaking her head. "Punishment."
She proceeded to close the door but Gajeel held the door from closing. "Fuck that punishment shit! Besides, why do I gotta stand out here in my boxers!? You're such a sadist!"
"No! Don't come in!" Levy cried as she fought over the door with Gajeel. Unfortunately for her, Gajeel was bigger and stronger than she was.
"Isn't that the boy who stole your phone?" Levy suddenly asked.
Gajeel let go of the door. "What!? Where!?"
Levy used that opportunity to close the door. Gajeel turned around and banged on the door. "Come on!"
No answered from Levy.
Gajeel dramatically fell onto the ground and leaned his back against the door. I'll get my revenge!
"Ahhhhh! There's a pervert sitting in front of Levy's door!" A familiar voice yelled, scaring him.
Gajeel sat up and saw that the voice was coming from Lucy who was in her pajamas. She had a pink suitcase in one hand and her phone in the other.
"Nononono! I'm not a pervert!" Gajeel cried.
Lucy let go of her suitcase's handle tried to kick him but he dodged.
"I'm for real! I'm not a pervert!" Gajeel cried.
"Wait..." Lucy studied him. "Gajeel?"
"Yes!" Gajeel cried.
"Why are you standing outside of the apartment half naked?" Lucy asked.
"Long story," Gajeel answered with a sigh.
"Were you trying to take advantage of Levy!?" Lucy cried.
"No I wasn't!" Gajeel cried.
"I won't let you!" Lucy cried, kicking him.
"Ow! I'm seriously not!" Gajeel cried.
"Liar!" Lucy cried.
Having no choice, Gajeel ran down the hallway. Lucy furiously ran after him. Thir screaming and yelling echoed throughout the hallway, causing the people dwelling on the floor to come out of their apartments to see what was going on. Even Levy, who was beyond annoyed, came out of her apartment. Her face paled when she saw Lucy kicking Gajeel who was crouched down on the floor so she ran towards them.
"Hey hey hey! Lucy! Don't kick him!" Levy cried, pulling Lucy back by the arm.
"I won't let him take advantage of you, okay!?" Lucy cried as she allowed herself to be pulled away. One of her slide slipped off of her feet.
"Advantage? No, he wasn't doing that," Levy answered.
Lucy blinked. "Then why's he outside in his boxers?"
"He was annoying me..." Levy let go of Lucy's arm and twiddled with her fingers. "...so I punished him by making him strip and stand outside..."
"Show him who's boss!" Lucy laughed.
Gajeel stood up and handed Lucy her slide that had slipped off. Lucy eyed him suspiciously.
"Just take the slide! And people are looking at us!" Gajeel hissed.
Levy and Lucy looked around and saw that people were in fact looking at them. A few had their phones pointed at them, meaning that they may or may not be recording them. Levy and Lucy quickly bowed before they dragged Gajeel back into the apartment he shared with Levy.
"Sorry about having to use out flashlights as light. The power's out," Levy said as Lucy rolled her suitcase in.
"Girl, it's fine!" Lucy cried.
"What brings you here with your suitcase?" Levy asked.
"I'll be staying with you for a few days!" Lucy cried.
Levy blinked. "What? Why?"
Lucy glared at Gajeel who was eating an apple and sitting on the couch. "I don't feel comfortable letting you live with a guy like him."
Gajeel glared at her back. "I've literally done nothing to you to deserve your hate."
Lucy ignored Gajeel and pulled Levy into a hug. "You're like a little baby! If you got hurt, I don't know what I'd do!"
"Lucy, I'm fine!" Levy cried, hugging Lucy back.
"I need to see that you're fine!" Lucy insisted.
Levy sighed. "Fine. You can stay."
Gajeel stood up from the couch and walked over to the girls. "I have to borrow Shrimp for a little," he said as he separated the girls.
"What are you going to do to her!?" Lucy asked.
"He won't do anything bad to be, especially now that you're here," Levy reassured Gajeel before following him out the apartment.
"She has to leave!" Gajeel cried the minute they were outside.
"I know! I want her to leave too!" Levy cried.
"Then why didn't you tell her to leave!?" Gajeel asked.
"I was just being nice! Besides, it's just Lucy! Things will be fine!" Levy cried.
"The blondie hates me!" Gajeel cried.
"Then figure out how to make her un-hate you!" Levy cried.
Gajeel groaned. "Okay. Whatever. But how's this whole living arrangement gonna work?"
"She gets the room," Levy answered.
"What!? Can't we make her sleep on the floor!?" Gajeel cried.
"Of course not!" Levy cried.
"But that's not fair! I haven't had a turn in the room yet!" Gajeel cried.
"When she leaves, you can have the room for a week," Levy said.
"Deal," Gajeel automatically agreed.
The both of them opened the door a little and peeped their heads inside to see what Lucy was up to.
Lucy was busy rearranging things. "Why are there talismans all over the place...?"
Levy's heart broke as she watched Lucy take them down. Gajeel held back a snicker.
Lucy noticed the two in the doorway and waved. "Why are you too just standing there?"
Levy and Gajeel opened the door all the way and entered the apartment.
"How long are you staying here?" Gajeel asked.
"I'm not sure...for a month maybe?" Lucy asked.
Gajeel's legs turned to jelly. He was obviously upset with the news he had just gotten. He then grabbed onto the wall to hold himself up. "A month!?"
Suddenly, the power came back on.
Levy and Lucy had their arms linked together as they walked to their classes the next day. As they did, they saw a large group of girls crowded around something.
"What's going on there?" Levy wondered out loud.
"Let's check it out," Lucy answered.
Levy nodded and the both of them ran over to the group. They pushed their way through the crowd until they were at the front.
Apparently, the girls were watching a shirtless Gray sleep on a bench. A book was sprawled on top of his face.
"OMG, when he wakes up, do you think he'll see me and fall in love?"
"Bitch, why would he fall in love with you!?"
"Don't make me pull out yo weave!"
"Fight me! Fight me!"
Suddenly, a huge brawl broke out.
Levy and Lucy were pushed around and eventually ended up behind the bench.
"Are they busy?" Gray whispered without taking the book off of his face.
"Yeah," Lucy answered.
Immediately, Gray sat up and took the book off of his face. After glancing at the group of girls fighting, he climbed over the backrest of the bench and ran off. Levy and Lucy followed him.
"Damn! It's hard being good looking!" Gray cried once they were far away.
"I know, right?" Lucy, being a good looking girl herself who gets confessions on the daily despite having a boyfriend, said.
Levy was considered "below average" so she couldn't relate with Lucy and Gray.
"Oh yeah. Juvia told me that you have your own place now. Congrats," Gray told Levy.
"Thank you," Levy responded.
"You wouldn't believe who she's living with," Lucy started.
Gray rose an eyebrow. "I thought she's living alone?"
"Nope!" Lucy cried.
Levy realized what Lucy was about to do. She vigorously shook her head. Unfortunately, Lucy didn't see it.
"She's living with a guy who looks like he's in the yakuza!" Lucy cried.
Levy stopped walking. "Lucy!"
"But it's true, isn't it?" Lucy asked.
"You're living with a guy? Is he your secret boyfriend?" Gray asked.
"He's the ex Juvia was dramatically talking about yesterday," Lucy answered.
"Him!?" Gray cried.
Levy winced. "Yeah...but things are fine!"
"Things aren't fine!" Gray cried.
"You guys are overthinking things," Levy said.
Gray and Lucy shared a look.
When classes were over, Levy didn't have anything after school so she made her way back to the apartment. Lucy and Gray were following her.
"Look, you guys don't have to follow me. Go and live your lives. Besides, Gray, don't you have practice?" Levy asked when they were in front of the apartment.
"Practice can wait," Gray answered.
"Yeah, and I'm living with you for a month so of course I'm following you," Lucy answered.
Levy groaned and opened the door. Then, her jaw dropped.
There was Romeo and Wendy tied to two chars with their backs to each other. There was duck tape covering their mouths and bandanas as blindfolds. Midnight was sleeping on the couch while Hoteye, Cobra, Racer, and Angel surrounded Romeo and Wendy. Gajeel was directly in front of Romeo and he was pulling Romeo by the hair.
"Oh...shit..." Gajeel mumbled when he saw Levy, Lucy, and Gray standing in the doorway.
"Gajeel...what are you doing?" Levy slowly asked.
Gajeel awkwardly let go of Romeo's hair. "Cobra found the fetus that stole my phone so we're...uh..." he cleared his throat, "...we're teaching him a lesson."
"That's it! Levy! You're moving out!" Lucy cried.
"Nonononono! I can't move out! I won't get a refund! And I'm tied to this apartment because I'm cursed!" Levy cried.
"What?" Gray asked, not understanding what Levy meant.
"That guy is no good!" Lucy cried, pointing at Gajeel. "I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it turns out that he's a yakuza member!"
Suddenly, Natsu entered the apartment with a bung of grocery bags. "Yeah! Party!"
Everyone turned and looked at him like he was on something.
Natsu dropped his bags and stared at Gajeel who was staring at him.
Midnight sat up. "He's with Tataros!"
"Oh shit! You guys are with the Oracion Seis!" Natsu cried before running off.
"Get him!" Gajeel ordered before running after Natsu. Angel and the others followed.
Levy, Lucy, and Gray were left in the apartment with Romeo and Wendy who were still tied up.
"What...just happened...?" Gray asked.
"Oh shit, was I right about the yakuza thing?" Lucy asked.
"Natsu's a yakuza?" Levy asked.
The three of them looked at each other when a phone started ringing. They followed the ringing and saw that it was coming from a phone that was on the coffee table. The caller ID read "CAPTAIN."
"We should answer it," Gray said.
"Are you crazy!? We shouldn't answer someone's phone!" Levy cried.
"I think we should answer it," Lucy said.
Levy sighed. "Fine, I'll answer and tell the person on the other line that the owner of this phone is occupied."
Levy grabbed the phone, answered the call, and put it on speaker.
"Black Steel Gajeel, you haven't called me in nearly two days. Do you want to die? I think you do."
Levy looked at Gray and Lucy who were panickily mouthing things at each other. Levy sighed and decided to speak. "Um, Gajeel had his phone stolen, but he got it back now. He's kind of busy...so...yeah..."
"Who's this?"
"Not Gajeel," Levy responded. Lucy face palmed.
The person who was on the other end hung up.
"Why did he hang up?" Gray asked.
"Call him again!" Lucy cried.
"We can't just do that!" Levy cried before putting the phone down. She had a bad feeling and it was giving her goosebumps.
Gajeel, who was chasing Natsu outside of the building, had the same bad feeling Levy had. He stopped running and turned back to look at the building. He noticed the window of the apartment he shared with Levy. Something bad's about to happen...maybe Levy was right about us being cursed after all...
