Jake Long III (Season Four)

Chapter/Episode Five: Tell Me About My Grandmother Part 3

The elevator door slid open, allowing Cherri to walk out of the elevator, followed closely by Jake III and Lucile, followed by Sadie, Gussie and Rodney. "So..." Lucile said as she hurried over to Cherri's side. "...How much further?"

"We're almost there." Cherri said with a sad smile.

LINE BREAK

Eventually, Cherri, Lucile, Rodney, Gussie, Sadie and Jake III reached a building, the door closed. Stopping at the door, Cherri smiled. "This is it." She said. Taking a step forward, Cherri knocked three times on the door before she pulled her hand away from the door and stepped back to be beside Lucile again.

"Cherri, is that you?" Came the sound of Lista's voice.

"Yes, indeed!" Cherri said cheerfully. "And with me, I've got a family in need of help."

"Bring them in!"

Stepping forward, Cherri grabbed the knob, but before she opened the door, she reverted to her human form. As soon as she was down to her human form, Cherri turned her head to the side to loom at Lucile and her family.

"Human form." She told them.

Without even asking why, Lucile just nodded and reverted to her human form, Rodney, Gussie and Sadie following her example. Smiling, Cherri turned her head back to normal, opened the door and walked inside the room, Lucile, Rodney, Gussie, Sadie and Jake following her.

The five of them stopped beside where Cherri stood a few seconds later, the six of them seeing Lista, in her human form and with Angela's cross around her neck, sitting in a chair. When Lista saw them, she smiled.

"Welcome." She told them.

Slowly, Lista got up from her chair and started to walk over to Cherri, Jake III, Sadie and the McClellan family. As Lista stopped in front of them, Cherri put her hand on Lucile's back. "Hello." Lucile greeted her.

"Dragon Council Agents." Lista acknowledged.

"Yes." Lucile replied.

"Was your husband one, too?" Lista asked.

"Yes." Lucile replied. "That's how he died. He was killed in action in South Africa."

Lista said nothing, instead, she slowly and solemnly took off Angela's cross from around her neck. Holding it in both hands, she told them: "Why don't we sit down?"

Without saying anything, Lucile, Sadie, Rodney and Gussie all stepped forward while Lista slowly sat down, Lucile, Rodney, Sadie and Gussie all sitting down with her in a circle. Jake and Cherri were left standing together. "So, what do we do?" Jake asked.

"Just sit and watch." Cherri said with a smile.

"So..." Lista said, staring at Lucile and her family. "...I think we should begin this by me telling you a little story from several years ago. You knew Rose Long, right?"

"Yes." Lucile said softly.

"Well, a good sixty years ago..." Lista said. "...She spent some time with my friends and I. Then, one of my friends was killed while in the Underworld."

"Underworld?" Rodney asked.

"Yes, the Underworld." Lista said. "It's the place where damned souls-"

"You believe in that kind of stuff?" Rodney asked.

"I don't believe." Lista told him as she started to play with the cross in her hands. "I know. I just told you. My friend died while in the Underworld."

"How did she get there?" Sadie asked.

"If I remember the story correctly, I believe they were dragged there by demons." Lista replied.

"Yeah, that's pretty much what happened." Cherri spoke up.

"So, as you can see, I don't believe, I know." Lista said. "Now, to continue the story, not long after, Rose was taken back to the Underworld. There...she saw my friend ascend from the Underworld, into Heaven."

"Why are you telling us this?" Lucile asked.

"Because..." Lista smiled. "...I am certain that your husband was a good man and a good dragon..."

"Of course he was." Lucile said.

"Well, then what's to stop him from going to heaven, just like Angela?" Lista asked.

LINE BREAK

Meanwhile, in her dragon form, Rosie arrived home. Landing in front of the porch's steps, Rosie reverted to her human form and quickly started to walk up the steps. Reaching the front door, she opened it and walked into the house, closing the front door behind her.

A few seconds later, as Rosie passed by the kitchen, she stopped in her tracks when she heard her father's voice: "Rosie, you're back."

Turning to the side, Rosie could see her smiling father walking towards her. As soon as he reached her, he spoke again, crossing his arms: "I thought you said you weren't going to be gone for too long."

"Was I gone for too long?" Rosie asked.

"Not necessarily." Jake Jr. replied. "I just thought you would've been back sooner."

"Well, I ran into Aunt Haley."

"You did?" Jake Jr.'s smile widened. "You talked, huh?" Rosie nodded. "What did you talk about?"

"Just...stuff." Rosie shrugged before she turned and started to walk away from him.

FLASHBACK

Inside Demetria's home, Socorro groaned as she reverted to her human form, being knocked to the floor having knocked all strength from her. Grinning, the Kishi bent down and quickly grabbed her, picking her up. Then, the Kishi quickly spun around and threw her out the window.

Outside, as Socorro started to fall, both Clint and Turpen gasped. "Socorro!" Turpen cried out, while Clint flapped his wings and quickly flew up into the air, grabbing Socorro in his scaly arms.

As Clint landed on the ground, getting down on his knees, Turpen turned her head to the side to look at him. "Is she okay?" She asked.

"I'm going to find out." Clint said as he looked down at Haley's oldest daughter. "Socorro?" He asked, gently shaking her, making her moan. "Socorro, are you okay?" Slowly, Socorro opened her eyes, moaning again.

"What?" She asked, looking up at Clint, who smiled with relief.

Back inside the house, the Kishi had an evil smile on his face as he panted, waiting to hear a splat. However, before he could hear one, he gasped as he was attacked by both Phoebe and Dynean, both of whom attacking with their tails; Dynean wrapped her tail around the creature's neck, while Phoebe wrapped her tail around his waist. The two dragons quickly pulled him back, turning him around in the air.

As soon as the Kishi got close enough, both Phoebe and Dynean tried to throw a punch at it, but the Kishi managed to duck his head, avoiding the double blow. Not only did the Kishi ducking its head result in Phoebe and Dynean missing their blows, but it also caused both young dragons to accidentally release their hold on the creature, making it land in a squatted position on the floor.

The Kishi quickly looked up, seeing both young dragons look down at him. Giving the two an evil smirk, the Kishi grunted as it jumped up, lashing its leg to the side, hitting Phoebe and throwing her to the side, hitting Dynean. As a result, both of them were thrown to the side, and both of them landed in a heap together on the floor as the Kishi landed on its feet.

With no dragons to get in his way, the Kish walked over to the bed, stopping besides the sleeping Demetria. Looking down at her sleeping form, the creature grinned, his head morphing into its hyena form.

Opening its mouth, the Kishi started to drool, the saliva hitting Demetria on the side of her face. However, she did not wake, she only moaned in discomfort. "Come on..." She whined as she snuggled up closer to her pillow. "...Just ten more minutes."

"Oh, I'm afraid you'll be dead within ten minutes..." The Kishi hissed.

However, at that moment, the door to Demetria's room was flung open and Rose and Ebony, both in their dragon forms, flew into the room, both clutching onto their staffs. In disbelief, the Kishi turned to face them, just as Ebony pointed the now glowing staff at it.

"Get away from her." Ebony growled before she fired. However, the plasma blast only hit the wall, for the Kishi jumped to the side.

Snarling, Ebony flew forward, aiming to run through the Kishi through with her staff, but before she could get close enough, the Kishi once again jumped to the side, resulting in the blade of Ebony's staff going into the wall.

As Ebony quickly yanked out the staff and turned to face the Kishi, Rose hurried over to Demetria's bed and rolled her over onto her back, gently starting to shake her. Moaning, Demetria slowly opened her eyes, seeing Rose hovering above her.

"What?" She asked sleepily.

"We have to get you out of here." Rose said softly, but urgently. "The Kishi is here."

While Ebony grunted and swung her staff at the Kishi, only to have the creature jump over it, landing back on the ground completely unharmed, Rose got Demetria off the bed and started to hurry her out of the room. Once they were out of the room, Rose turned and ran Demetria a bit down the hall, the two of them stopping once they reached San and Haley, both of whom were in their dragon forms.

Stepping away from Rose, Demetria walked over to Haley and San, turning to face Rose once she reached them. "Is the Kishi here?" Haley asked.

"Oh, yeah." Rose said as she took her staff in both hands.

"Do you want us to help fight it off?" Haley asked.

"No." Rose said before she quickly turned her head to the side to make sure that the Kishi hadn't left the room yet. Seeing that the coast was still clear, Rose turned her attention back to her sister-in-law and Socorro's Dragon Master.

"What do you want us to do?" Haley asked.

"Take Demetria down stairs." Rose ordered. "Guard her with your lives. Go, now!" Quickly, Rose turned back to face the entrance to Demetria's room, leaving Demetria, San and Haley to turn and run down the hall.

Taking a deep breath, Rose made the blade of her staff glow. Then, she pointed it down the hall. "I'm ready for you." She said calmly.

Back in the bedroom, Ebony grunted as she swung her staff at the Kishi, but the Kishi jumped back. Growling, Ebony took hold of the staff with both hands as it started to glow green with plasma.

"Just go down!" She declared before she fired, but yet again, the Kishi jumped to the side.

"Stop doing that!" Ebony ordered just before the Kishi ran over to her side and bumped into her from the side, making Ebony grunt and drop her staff as she was thrown to the side, hitting the wall with another grunt.

As Ebony slid down onto her knees, the Kishi turned and bent over, picking up Ebony's fallen staff. "Maybe it's time for you to go down..." The Kishi said in amusement as he stood straight up, making the staff glow green was plasma.

Moaning, Ebony unconsciously turned so her back was pressed against the wall. Weakly looking up, she gasped when she saw the Kishi threatening her with the blazing staff. "No..." She begged. "...No, please..."

"Begging doesn't help." The Kishi told her. Then, he fired, the plasma hitting Ebony head on, making her howl in briefly before she went limp, her head dropping as the plasma stunned her, leaving her unconscious and unable to fight the Kishi any longer.

Smirking, the Kishi dropped the staff to the floor and turned, running out of the room. The second Rose saw the Kishi leaving the room, she fired her staff. Unfortunately, Rose fired a little too soon, and the plasma just barely missed the Kishi.

Seeing the plasma barely miss it, the Kishi quickly turned to face Rose, who gritted her teeth and growled. "Wasted your shot." The Kishi mocked.

Hearing this torment, Rose instantly forgot all about her anger and just smiled. "Fortunately for me..." She said. "...I can just shoot again." Quickly, she did just that, but the Kishi ran forward and ducked before the plasma could hit it. Getting down on its belly, the Kishi slid forward, going in-between Rose's legs before it came to a stop, got back on its feet and started running again.

Gasping, Rose turned her head to the side, seeing the Kishi running down the hall. Quickly, she lashed out with her tail, wrapping it around the Kishi's waist, stopping it in its tracks. As the Kishi could only stand in shock, it yelped as Rose violently threw it against the wall, knocking it unconscious and making it drop to the floor as Rose freed it from her tail.

Sighing, Rose slowly turned to face the unconscious creature. Scrunching her staff up and putting it back on her belt, she found herself smiling. "It's over."

BLACKOUT; COMMERCIAL

BACK TO THE STORY/SHOW

In Mermaid City, Cherri and Jake III watched as Lista slowly held out her cross, holding it in front of Lucile. Staring at it, Lucile just blinked. "What do you want me to do with that?" She asked softly.

"Take it." Lista gave her a small smile.

Slowly, Lucile reached out and took the cross, holding it in both hands. "Okay, what do you want me to do with it?" She asked.

"Do you feel anything?" Lista asked her, ignoring her question.

"Excuse me?" Lucile asked.

"Do you feel anything?" Lista repeated.

"I'm...I'm afraid I don't understand what you're asking me." Lucile admitted. "What am I supposed to feel?"

"If your husband is up there..." Lista said calmly. "...Shouldn't he be able to send you down a message? That's a holy object. Don't you think that he could send you some kind of message through that?"

"Um..." Was all Lucile could say.

"Do you feel anything?" Lista asked again. "Do you feel your husband's presence through that cross?"

Lucile opened her mouth to respond, but before she could say anything, Sadie, who was sitting next to her, reached out and took the cross from Lucile, holding it in both hands. "Let me try this." She said, sounding rather impatient.

Smiling, Lista watched as Sadie tried to feel some kind of force from behind the grave, going so far as to even close her eyes and place the cross right up against her chest. "Do you feel anything?" Lista asked hopefully, just as Sadie opened her eyes and took the cross away from her chest.

"No." She said. "Nothing."

"Oh." Lista sounded disappointed. "Well..." She smiled. "...Why don't you try it again?"

"How about no?" Sadie replied, tossing the cross back at Lista, who just barely managed to catch it. "This isn't working." Sadie continued. "My mother didn't feel anything, and neither did I. This isn't working. This is pointless."

"Do you not believe?" Lista asked.

"Believe?" Sadie asked. "In life after death and all that stuff?"

"Yes."

"Well, there's really no proof." Gussie said.

"I just told you-" Lista started, only to be cut off by Sadie.

"We didn't see it, though."

"Besides, Mom and Sadie felt absolutely nothing." Gussie said.

Lucile, who had remained mostly quiet through the conversation that Lista was having with Sadie and Gussie, finally spoke up: "Wait." She said before she reached out with her hand. "Give me that one more time."

"You want to try again?" Lista asked.

"Yes."

Smiling, Lista tossed her the cross, Lucile easily catching it in one hand. "Do you feel anything?" Lista asked yet again. "Do you feel your husband's presence? Can you feel him trying to tell you something?"

"I guess I'll find out." Lucile said. Then, she took a deep breath, closed her eyes and closed her hand around the cross, exhaling.

"Do you feel anything?" Lista asked yet again.

Slowly, Lucile started to open her eyes, a small smile appearing on her face. "I...I...I think I do..." She said softly while Sadie, Gussie and Rodney looked at her with shocked looks on their faces.

"You do?" Sadie asked.

"I do." Lucile said, her smile widening, taking the cross in both hands.

"Is he saying anything to you?" Lista asked hopefully.

"No." Lucile answered. "But...But he doesn't need to. I can feel him. I can feel his warmth and his love." As she continued, Lucile got more and more excited, her voice getting louder and louder, more and more confident. "He...He wants me to know that it's all okay. I can feel it. He doesn't even need to say anything to me. I can just feel what he wants. He wants us to be happy. He doesn't want us to keep mourning for the rest of our lives."

"That's great!" Lista said. "Anything else?"

"He-" Lucile started, but before she could continue, she stopped in her tracks, her eyes widening.

"What is it?" Gussie asked.

"He...He just said something." Lucile said.

"What did he say?" Lista asked.

"It's...It's kind of personal." Lucile said. "It's just between him and me." Then, she slowly reached out, offering the cross back to Lista. "I think that's all I'll be needing." She said. "Here, this belongs to you."

FLASHBACK

Back at Demetria's home, Rose, in her human form, shackled the Kishi's hands behind his back. As she took a step back, Turpen and Clint, who were both in their dragon forms and who were both holding onto the Kishi, turned themselves (and the Kishi) around so they could face Rose. Rose smiled at them. "Take this creature to the Dragon Council." Rose told them. "They'll find a nice jail cell to lock it up in."

"Yes, ma'am." Clint said. "Make sure our pupils are taken care of until we get back."

"Oh, I will." Rose said.

After she said this, Clint and Turpen both turned and started to walk the Kishi out the open front door. Alone, Rose turned and walked into the kitchen, where Dynean, Phoebe and Ebony were seated at the kitchen table, in their human forms, looking worn out.

"How you feeling?" Rose asked as she reached the table, placing her hand down on the surface and smiling at them.

"A little soar." Dynean said.

"I think we'll feel better in the morning." Phoebe added.

"Or, we'll just feel even more soar." Dynean shrugged.

"That's a possibility, too." Phoebe acknowledged.

"How about you, Ebony?" Rose asked.

"Eh, you know." Ebony shrugged. "I feel like a magical creature stunned me. I suppose I should just be happy it was only set on stun."

"Yeah." Rose agreed, but then she smiled. "I'd also have to say that you should be thankful that your Dragon Pupil is okay, too."

"Yeah." Ebony agreed, just before Haley and San, both in human forms, turned and walked into the kitchen.

"Rose." Haley spoke up, making Rose turn around to face them. "We just finished putting Demetria to bed." Haley reported.

"And Socorro?" Rose asked.

"Sent her home." Haley said.

"Good." Rose gave her an approving smile. "Um, is Demetria asleep yet?"

"Well, we just put her in bed." San answered. "I have a hard time believing that she fell asleep so quickly."

"Why?" Haley asked.

"I was thinking about talking to her." Rose answered.

"What for?" Ebony asked from behind.

"Oh, just to see if she's okay." Rose answered with a shrug, keeping her eyes on her sister-in-law and San.

"Well..." Haley smiled. "...If you want to do that, you might want to hurry. If you don't she might just fall asleep."

END FLASHBACK

As Rosie finished remembering the story that Haley had told her, she was lying on her back on her bed, staring up at the ceiling. However, when the door to her room opened, Rosie quickly sat up, seeing her father entering the room, holding a communication device.

"Call for Rosie." Jake Jr. said with a smile, Rosie now seeing that the device in his hands was omitting a holographic image of Noelia, who was in her human form.

"Noelia?" Rosie asked. "But...But I thought you said I couldn't see them anymore?"

"Well..." Jake Jr. shrugged. "...You know, when we brought you home from St. Melusine's, you told me that you weren't going to misbehave anymore. So...if I can trust you not to get into any trouble, then I don't see why I should be restricting who you can and cannot be friends with."

Now, Rosie had a huge smile on her face. Quickly, she jumped off her bed and ran over to her father, taking the communication device from him.

"Thanks, Dad." She said.

Nodding at his daughter, Jake Jr. turned and walked out of the room, closing the door behind him. Now alone, Rosie turned around, starting her conversation with Noelia.

"What's up?"

"Not much." Noelia replied.

"So, why are you calling?" Rosie asked. "Don't get me wrong, I'm glad to hear from y-"

"The girls and I are going out to Magus Bazaar for lunch this weekend." Noelia cut her off. "We wanted to know if you wanted to come."

"Sure!" Rosie said, not having to think twice about it. "Of course I'll come!"

"That's great!" Noelia smiled. "See you this weekend!" Then, her holographic image vanished, leaving Rosie smiling.

LINE BREAK

Meanwhile, at Mermaid City, Lucile was outside of the Lista's room, leaning against the wall. As Sadie walked out, followed by Gussie and Rodney, Lucile turned her head to the side to watch them, but as they moved over to her so they could talk to her, Lucile turned her head back to normal.

"Dad really said something to you?" Rodney asked.

"Yeah." Lucile managed a small smile.

"Please tell us what he said." Gussie begged. For someone who had seemed so skeptical before, once she heard her mother claim that she felt McClellan's presence, she did a complete one-eighty, becoming quite interested in what had transpired.

Lucile continued to smile. "I told you." She said. "It was personal."

"How personal could it have been?" Gussie asked.

Lucile shook her head as she crossed her arms. "It was about something he wants me to do." Lucile explained. "Let me just put it this way: I think you'll soon find out what he told me."

"Hmm." Was Gussie's response, crossing her arms.

At that moment, Cherri stepped out of the building and turned to face Lucile and her children, all of them turning their heads to the side to look at her. "Hi." Cherri smiled.

"Hi." Lucile smiled back. "Look, you don't know how grateful I am for your help."

"Don't thank me." Cherri held up her hands. "Thank Jake. He's the one who called me."

"I already thanked him." Lucile said. "But I'll be sure to thank him again...and I also want to thank you."

"Well..." Cherri continued to smile. "...I don't really know what to say. If you think I've helped so much, then I'm glad. Now..." Her smile vanished. "...Some business to cover."

"Business?" Sadie asked. "What kind of business?"

"Well..." Cherri crossed her arms. "...For me, it took a month to come to terms with the death of my friend. So, the question is...when can you come back to see Lista again?"

Smiling again, Lucile stepped away from the wall, now completely facing Cherri. Interpreting her smile in her own way, Cherri smiled again, voicing her interpretation out loud: "So, you can come back tomorrow? That's great!"

"Actually..." Lucile said, making Cherri's smile fade. "...I don't think we need to come back..."

"What?" Cherri asked.

"I said..." Lucile repeated. "...That I don't think my family and I need to come back to see your friend again."

"Why not?"

"Because..." Lucile smiled. "...This was all I needed."

"You came to terms with his death after only one healing session?"

"Oh, yes." Lucile said. "That Lloyd is in a better place is all I need to know. I think I can go back to functioning now."

"Well, what about you?" Cherri asked Gussie, Sadie and Rodney.

Sighing, Sadie left her brother and "sister", stopping beside her mother and putting a hand on her shoulder. "Well..." Sadie said. "...I, for one, trust what my mother says. If she says that she made contact with my father, then I believe her."

"That's good enough for you?" Cherri asked.

"My mother said that he's in a better place..." Gussie took her hand off of Lucile's shoulder. "...So, yes. I think I can move on, too."

"I'm with Gussie." Sadie agreed as she walked up to Gussie's side.

Sighing, Rodney walked up to Sadie's side. "Me, too." He said.

Staring at the McClellan family, Cherri could do nothing but smile sadly. "If you say so." Cherri said.

LINE BREAK

That night, on the Island of Draco, Lucile, in her human form, limped over to the closed doors to the Main Hall. Stopping in front of them, she lifted up her hand a knocked twice. Taking her hand away, she waited for about five seconds before she heard Asil: "Come in!"

From inside, the doors opened and Lucile limped inside, Asil, Holly, Agata and Yara all looking shocked as they watched her stop in front of the table.

"Agent McClellan, I thought we told you to take some time off." Yara said.

"You did."

"Then why are you here?" Agata asked.

"I talked to my kids." Lucile answered.

"That sure was fast." Asil said, not sounding convinced by Lucile's words.

"Well, I didn't really talk to them." Sadie admitted. "I did something else. I got some help with Jake's help. We went to Mermaid City today. There was a dragon that was able to help me come to terms with Lloyd's death."

"How?" Agata asked.

"Well..." Lucile rubbed the back of her neck. "...This may sound odd to you, but this dragon helped me make contact with my husband. He's in a better place, and that's why I think I'm prepared to move on."

"While that's all very nice..." Asil crossed his arms. "...That's not a solution to this big problem. What about your children?"

"From my talk with them..." Lucile answered. "...It sounds like they're ready to move on."

"How can-?" Agata started to say, but she was cut off as Holly reached out and put a hand on her shoulder, silencing her and making her turn her head to the side as Holly started to speak:

"If you are so certain that your kids are willing to move on..." Holly said. "...Then we can't really disagree with you, as we were not there. There's only one thing we can do..." Holly gave Lucile a small smile. "...And that's to take your word for it and wait and see if there is any truth to your words."

Hearing this, Lucile couldn't help but smile, while Agata, Yara and Asil all looked very nervous about Holly's decision. "Councilors, there is more." Lucile said.

"There is?" Holly asked.

"Yes." Lucile continued. "As I already said, I made contact with my husband."

"Uh-huh." Holly said. "Go on."

"He...told me to do something for him." Lucile said.

"What's that?" Holly asked.

"He wants me to finish what he started." Lucile said. "He wants me to train Jake."

BLACKOUT; END EPISODE

A/N: So, what did you think? Please review!

Now, I was hoping to leave the scene with Lucile ambiguous. Did she really make contact with her husband, or was it all in her head? I was hoping that I would be able to tell you to decide for yourselves, but, the way the scene came out, I can't do that. It was all in her head. It wouldn't make sense if it really happened. If it did, why wasn't Sadie able to feel anything? He'd make contact with his wife but not the girl he "adopted" and loved like a daughter? That doesn't make much sense. Plus, there's also the fact that Lucile was so desperate to find closure and peace that she tried it a second time, which is when it worked.

Sorry to ramble like that, but I felt like that might be important.
