Chapter 5: Mystery

Bella's POV

I wished that I could cry and release the pain within my heart. It was impossible not to think about all the things my daughter had endured so far in her short life.

I took pleasure in the fact that I would be getting revenging on the men who had raped my daughter. Rosalie quickly agreed to help me when I'd told her what happened. I knew she would. She'd experienced the very thing that happened to my daughter. She understood perfectly how Nessie was feeling right now. Just like she had done with her own rapists she would eliminate them.

Aiden squirmed in my arms. I looked down at him. He was so cute, so little, and so innocent looking. It was hard to believe that he was conceived in an act of violence. Yet Nessie loved him and his brother so much. I did to. So did Edward. So did the rest of the family. What happened wasn't their fault and they deserved the love of a family as much as any other child did.

I didn't hear Edward when he walked into our room. I only became aware of his presence when he sat down next to me and put his arm around me.

"Everything will be okay," he said.

"How can you be so sure about that?"

"She's coming home tomorrow. We'll help her,"

"She's coming tomorrow?"

He nodded. "I believe so. Carlisle is going to invite her to live with us tomorrow. Alice says that she will say yes,"

"Why is Alice getting visions of Nessie when she never used to before?" I'd been so caught up in everything that's been happening that I hadn't even thought about that until now.

Edward took a deep breath and rubbed his head. "She's not sure. It's a mystery to her,"

"Everything is a mystery with Nessie right now. I mean why is she so...human now? It's like her vampire side doesn't even exist,"

"I asked Carlisle about that earlier. He thinks it's purely psychological. He ran some tests on her earlier and said that genetically nothing had changed. He thinks that the reason her vampire side appears to be non existent now is purely for psychological reasons. She doesn't remember us or that vampires exist. So her human side has become more dominant as a result,"

I gasped. "So what does that mean?"

"He thinks that the more time she spends around us will help reawaken her vampire side once again,"

"Genetically-"

"Genetically she is still the same. That's why the twins have a thirst for blood. Carlisle wants to run some tests on the two of them tomorrow to find out what their exact genetic makeup is,"

I looked at my grandson. He looked calm and happy.

"Fascinating,"

"What's fascinating?"

Edward was looking at Aiden curiously. "I didn't realize it earlier but they're communicating,"

"Who is communicating with who?"

"You know how they say twins have their own special way of communicating with each other? That they know what one another is thinking?"

I nodded.

"Well Aiden and Owen have taken twin telepathy to a supernatural level. They're communicating with each other telepathically. This is truly fascinating. They are sharing their thoughts with each other as we speak,"

"Wow," I looked at my grandson in disbelief. "They're gifted,"

"Indeed they are,"

"Where is Owen anyway?"

He chuckled. "Downstairs with Alice and Rosalie. They're playing dress up with him. He's not happy about that at all,"

I laughed.

"So anyway Nessie is going to come home tomorrow at around four. We're planning a hunting trip in the morning before Nessie comes. But someone needs to stay behind and watch the babies-"

"Sure I'll stay behind with them. Then I'll go hunt when you come back,"

Aiden yawned and that's when I knew it was time for him to go to sleep. "I'll go see if I rescue Owen,"

I laughed. "Good luck with that Edward,"

The rest of the night went off without any issues. Both babies slept through the night. It wasn't until after everyone had left that they finally woke up. I changed their diapers and was in the process of feeding them when my phone rang.

I answered my phone expecting it to be Edward but it was Jacob's voice I heard. "Bella where are you?"

"What do you mean where are you?"

"I told you last night that I was getting on the next flight to Chicago. You said you'd pick me up from the airport. I sent you my flight details,"

"Oh crap!" With everything that happened last night I'd completely forgotten that Jacob was coming.

"Don't tell me you forgot,"

"I am so sorry Jacob! I will be right over there! I'll be there in twenty minutes max,"

Damn I felt like such a horrible friend! I'd completely forgotten about Jacob. He'd booked his flight only seconds after I'd told him that we'd found Nessie. We hadn't even hung up yet when he jumped on his tablet to search for flights.

I gathered up the twins and buckled them in their car seats. It was a good thing we'd bought car seats yesterday when we went shopping for them.

I still couldn't believe that I'd forgotten about my best friend. What kind of a person forgets to pick up their best friend from the airport? Me apparently.

I found the part of the airport where Jacob was waiting. It didn't take me long to spot him among a crowd of people. He was the only person not wearing a shirt.

I pulled up right alongside him. "Jacob!" I hugged him as soon as I'd gotten off the car.

"Bella!"

"Oh I missed you Jacob. I'm so sorry I forgot,"

"Don't worry you're forgiven,"

"Here let me help you put those bags in the trunk," I offered. "Just get in I told him,"

I hadn't realized that I'd forgotten to tell him something extremely important yesterday when we talked.

"Um Bella?" he said questioningly when I got in the car. "Why do you have identical twin baby boys in the backseat?"
