(The reason why I decided to write this chapter was because I believe that Ravenclaws and Hufflepuffs don't get enough recognition, so here's my take on how Ravenclaws must be like, as I am myself a Ravenclaw.)
Chapter 5: Ravenclaw Traditions
The house of Ravenclaws had rather different system of conduct than rest of Hogwarts houses.
For one, they didn't have any paswords like the Gryffindor or Slytherin dorms. Instead they had to answer a riddle before they could enter.
Usually whenever the first years came to Hogwarts for the first time, they were usually nervous they'd get the riddle wrong, so the prefects came up with a idea to make them feel more welcomed.
The same thought was used by the prefects every year.
"What question can you never answer yes to?" The raven knocker had asked.
Everytime the knocker usually asked a easy riddle for the first years to ease their nerves.
The fifth year prefect, Anna Doherty however decided to act like he wasn't aware of the answer, and make a thinking face, saying, "Hmm, I am not so sure what the answer might be, do you know what it might be Ryan?"
The said sixth year shook his head and spoke, "Why don't we all work together to guess what it might be?"
So the first years all rathered up together.
After a long discussion, one of the first years, Lana Witangel spoke, "Ooh, I know! The answer must be 'are you asleep yet?' cause if you're asleep then you won't be able to answer and if you're not asleep then you would say no!"
"Ooh, that's a very smart guess!" The seventh year prefect, Lewis McCarthy spoke praising the first year girl, before resisting the answer to the knocker which open and allowed them to enter.
The rest of the first years cheered and the first year and Lana blushed and the praises.
Then the group of first years usually walked to the common room, which most were in awe of the airy room, the blue and bronze decor and the personal Ravenclaw library.
Professor Flitwick would then arrive and give a welcoming speech to all of the Ravenclaws.
A speech that never changed any year.
"Welcome first years to the the Ravenclaw house and rest of year I wish a warm welcome back," started their head of house in a squeaky voice, "It is my absolute pleasure having you all as the part of Ravenclaw family. I am Professor Flitwick, your head of house and your charms professor throughout the year. I am very excited to get to know everyone here and witness everyone's brilliance, creativity and talent. In case you ever need my help in anything, I shall be in my office with cupcakes."
Then the prefects would retire and more "cool" kids would take their place. It didn't really matter what year they were. From second to seventh year, they all were involved in this. And each year, they elected one of the student to do this.
This year, the third year Candice Hayes has been appointed to do this.
"Hey newbies, so now that you all have been introduced to all the boring rules, let us introduce you to the fun side of Ravenclaws," She had started, with a false California girl accent, "Now to let you know. There are going to be times when people are going to think that our house is the house of boring nerdy bookworms. And guess what? They're wrong! We're not just the smart house, not that we're not smart cause guys we're smart as hell, don't underestimate yourselves! But we're also the artistic and creative house. And guess what that means, that means we're intellectuals with the creativity of a genius. And where does those two things go real well in?"
"Uh, writing?" A first year asked.
"Well, technically yes. But that's not what we're here for. We're talking about pranks!" Candice exclaimed excited, "Us Ravenclaws have a prank committee and if anyone ever bullies you and you need revenge, tell us! We'll prank them!"
"But what if we get caught?" Questioned another first year.
"We won't. We put the blame on Gryffindors or Slytherins, depending on who we pranked and they just fight eachother. So you get your revenge and drama all together. It's a fun combo. The only thing missing is popcorn, which the Hufflepuffs arrange." Candice explained.
"Candy, you are forgetting about the personal library!" Aurelia, who was lazily sitting on the couch and watching the show pointed out.
"Oh yes, of course. Now to let everyone know, the personal library is the pride of us Ravenclaws, if there's any book one wishes to share with other Ravenclaws after completing it, you can anonymously place it on the library as a donation. It's traditional for the seventh years to leave atleast one book on their last day of Hogwarts before graduating, but each year can do it." Spoke Candice with enthusiasm.
"Also, every Saturday after dinner there's a karoke party in the common room, so try not to get any detentions." Aurelia added lazily while Candice protested, "Aurie, that's my line!"
