Aaron, quietly got up out of bed, and walked out of his room. He went down the stairs and went to look out the window to see that his father was still gone. Giving a sigh of relief, he went to the kitchen and got out a glass from the cabinet and filled it with water. He turns around and leans against the counter, and takes a sip of water. Finishing his glass of water a few minutes later, Aaron turns around and places it in the sink. Turning back around, he sees his youngest sister.

"Hey squirt, get a good nap in?"

JJ nods her head, "Yeah."

"Good," Aaron replies. He walks over, picks his sister up, places her on his hip, and walks into the living room. Going over to the couch, he sits down, placing his sister on his lap. The young girl turns around in her brothers lap and faces him. "Aaron?"

"Yes?"

JJ just sat on her brothers lap, thinking of a way to ask her question, drawing random patters on her brothers arm, "Why is daddy," she pauses, looks up at her brother.

"What is it squirt? Why is daddy what?" Aaron prompted his sister.

Giving a small sigh, JJ asks, "Why is daddy always mean? Has he always been mean? Will he ever be nice?"

"I'm not sure kiddo," Aaron tells her honestly. "Our dad wasn't always mean, and when our mom died, he changed. He changed into a mean person, and I don't think he will ever be nice again."

"Is it my fault that mommy died? You said mommy died when I was born, is it my fault?" JJ asks her brother, getting tears built up in her eyes.

"No, no it isn't your fault kiddo," Aaron promises. "I promise, mommy wanted you, daddy did too. Something happened to her, that made her ill, after you were born, and that's how she ended up passing away. It's in no way your fault, whatsoever."

The young blonde, sat on her brothers lap, tears slowly trickling down her face, not bother to wipe away the tears, JJ looks up at her brother, "You promise? I don't think daddy ever wanted me around. He keeps saying I should have never been born, and that it was all my fault."

"It's not JJ, I promise. Daddy doesn't know what he's talking about," Aaron tells her, taking his hand and wiping her tears away. "Daddy is wrong in telling you that you should have never been born, it's not true." Aaron looks up, passed JJ's head and sees his other sister, standing by the stairs, leaning against the handrail. "Emily and I are glad you were born, we love you."

Emily walks over, and sits down next to her siblings, "Aaron's right, we're glad you're here, and we're glad you're our sister. Our dad, if you can call him that, doesn't deserve to have us as his kids. He shouldn't even be a dad."

The kids just sit, and take comfort from each other, trying to cheer their little sister up. "Squirt, I'm passing you off to Em', I'm going to go see what we have for lunch. Maybe come up with a list of things we need to get from the store."

JJ wraps her small arms around her brothers neck, and buries her face in his the crook of his neck, indicating she doesn't want to move. "I wanna stay with you," JJ tells him, voice muffled.

"I need you to go to Emily please," Aaron tells her, rubbing her small back in circles.

"Come here Jaje," Emily tries, as she goes to reach for her sister.

JJ looks over at her sister, then back to her brother, "It's okay, go ahead." Aaron gently tells her.

The young girl reaches over to her sister, who grabs her and adjusts her on her own lap. JJ snuggles up to Emily, tears running down the young girls face. "It's okay, everything will be okay." Emily tells her.

Aaron stands up, places his hand on top of his youngest sibling's head and runs his hand through hair. "I'll be right, I'm going into the kitchen." Emily looks up at her brother, nods her head and goes back to comforting her little sister. Aaron walks away into the kitchen. Looking outside the window through the kitchen, the young teen sees his dad pulling into the drive. Quickly going back into the living room, he tells his sisters,

"Guys, I need you to go upstairs."

Emily looks over at her brother, "What? Why?"

"Don't ask questions, just do as I say," Aaron tells her seriously.

Just as she stood up, she asks, "Is dad home?"

"No, daddy can't be home," JJ tells them, getting worried.

"Go on upstairs," Aaron instructs, giving no room for arguments.

Emily takes JJ small hand and leads her up the stairs, leaving their older brother to deal with their dad. Making sure both the girls were upstairs and not in sight, Aaron makes sure he's doing something, finding things to pick up, and clean as his father walks in the door. Aaron walks to the kitchen, throwing away trash that he found, walking back towards the living room, his dad spots him, "Out of my way boy."

Aaron moves out of his fathers way, watching him stumble into the kitchen, opening the fridge door. Watching his dad grab a beer out of the fridge, Aaron walks over to him slowly. "Dad, I need some money."

Mark turns and faces his son, "Like I'm going to give you any money, you're a worthless boy for a son. Go find a job!"

"Dad, it's not for me. We need food in the house, we're running out of food. We can't just starve." Aaron tells him.

"Why are you such a fucking bother? Get out of my sight now!" Mark yells, slamming his beer on the table.

"We need money dad! I'm not leaving till you give me some money to go to the store." Aaron stubbornly tells his father, standing his ground.

"You want fucking money, your sisters will pay," Mark tells him, getting his wallet out and throwing a fifty dollar bill at him.

"I won't let you hurt them," Aaron replies, going to stand in the doorway, stopping his father from leaving the kitchen.

Mark goes over grabs his son by the collar of his shirt, and yanks him up off the floor, and throws him down towards the table behind him. Aaron, lands in a heap on the floor, slamming his back against the table. Listening to his father call his sisters downstairs, Aaron slowly gets up off the floor, and stumbles out of the kitchen. "I said leave them alone, it has nothing to do with them!" Aaron yells at his father.

"Don't tell me what I can and cannot do in my own house!" Mark bellows, walking over to his son, and kicking him back down, making sure to get a couple good kicks in.

The young teen, rolls into a ball, protecting himself from the blows of his fathers kicks. While all this was going on, Emily and JJ walk out of Emily's room, and walk towards the front of the stairs, trying not to be seen. JJ wraps her small arms around her sisters' waist, tears running down her face after watching their father kick their brother a few times. Mark looks back up towards the stairs and hollers at the girls to come down.

Emily walks away first, telling her sister to stay put. "Get your asses down here right now!" Mark yells, "I'm not going to tell you again. Don't make me drag your sorry asses down here."

Emily timidly goes down the stairs, she sees her brother in pain on the floor. She then looks up at her father, "Y-yes s-sir?"

"Where is your sorry of an excuse sister at?" Mark asks the young girl.

Emily points up the stairs, "U-upstairs."

"Get your ass down here, little girl! Before I throw you ass out of this house!" Mark yells frustratingly.

"Just leave her alone, please? She doesn't have too," Emily begs, trying to protect her little sister.

Mark slaps his daughter across the face, "Don't you back talk to me! Or, I'll throw your ass out of here." Then he shoves Emily down away from him, and walks towards the stairs, "Jennifer, if you know what's good for you, you'd get your ass down here right this instant!"

JJ walks slowly from behind the banister at the top of the stairs, she fidgets with her fingers as she walks down the stairs slowly, afraid of what her dad has in store for her. Just as she stepped down, her father yanked her by her arms. "When I ask you to get your ass down here, you do it! Can't you do anything right?"

He then tosses her on the grown next to her sister, who she clings onto once they both stand up. Mark looks over at the two girls, "Your brother thinks you two need food. I don't think you guys need any. Maybe if you weren't such pigs, we'd have food in this forsaken house!" Mark then, looks at the youngest, who is trying to hide behind her sister. "You, you stupid little good for nothing brat, are a waste of space."

"Leave them alone!" Aaron seethes, as he slowly stands up.

Getting a smirk on his face, Mark walks over to his oldest, pushes him back down again, looks back at the girls as he kicks his son again, "This is you're guys' fault. Making me have to hurt my own son. Maybe I should just throw you all out." He then goes, gives a good hard kick to his son, walks over to the girls pushes Emily down, giving a swift kick to her stomach. Mark takes his belt off, turns his youngest around and starts hitting her with his belt.

JJ lets out a scream, as her dad starts hitting her, Aaron slowly, gets back up, goes towards his dad, and pushes him, making him stop. Mark stumbles away from the kids, being caught off balance. He grabs his belt, kicks the youngest down, and goes up the stairs to his room, not before calling out, "You kids better stay out of my way! Or there will be worse consequences."

Aaron kneels down next to Emily, checks on her, "Are you okay Ems'?"

Emily just bravely nods her head, trying to contain the tears that threaten to fall. Looks over at JJ and sees her sitting stiffly. "Jaje, come here."

The young blonde, looks towards her sister, crawls slowly over to her sister and brother, and breaks down. Letting out heart-wrenching sobs. Emily gathers her sister in her arms, being mindful of her back. Aaron stands up, reaches to take JJ, and let Emily up off the floor. "Come on guys, lets go up to my room. Emily, grab some clothes for you two, and just come to my room. We'll be camping out in my room tonight.

Emily nods to her brother, as they both went up the stairs. Reaching the top, Emily heads for her sisters room, while Aaron carried JJ over to his room. The rest of the afternoon, the kids hung out in Aaron's room, all hunger gone away. They heard their dad slam the front door, and the vehicle squealing out of the driveway. Aaron had pocketed the money his dad threw at him, placed it in his desk. When it was closer to dinner, Aaron went and made them all something quick, and ate their dinner in his room, He looked over at Emily and said,

"We'll go to the store tomorrow. May have to wait till after school though."

"Okay, sounds good." Emily responds, running her hand through her sisters' hair.

Aaron goes and sits next to both his sisters, he apologizes profusely to them. Making sure they were both okay, he walks out of the room, to take the plates down to the sink to wash them. Once that was done, he walked back up the stairs, and they all go ready for bed, they all laid down taking in comfort from one another. Aaron laid on his side, his head propped up on his arm, looks over at his little sister, sees she's still silently crying, with a few hiccups here and there. He looks at Emily, who keeps running her fingers through her sisters' hair. They were content, laying in silence. Wishing, and hoping that they would be saved soon.
