Chapter 5
-First year, pt 2-
The Weasley, Potter, and Diggory escapades got said parties into a lot of scrapes. Detention, fights, (mostly Fred and George) and McGonagall catching them red handed.
By the time Christmas rolled around, Lily and James Potter had received many letters from Hogwarts regarding their niece. James thought it was hilarious, and Sirius agreed. "She's taking after us, Lily!"
Lily, however, planned to have a stern talk with Cassie when the holidays came. And she did. But it didn't help much. Cassie continued on with the pranks and jokes. She had lots of ideas for pranks, most of them directed at people who annoyed her or her friends.
The twins and Cedric directed most of their pranks (and in case of the twins, punches) at people who bullied Cassie. Cedric and Cassie were pretty much inseparable.
They were close with the twins of course, but since they were in different houses they didn't have as much time together. Cedric and Cassie did. Cassie told Cedric everything that her parents had done to her, and Cedric listened and comforted. Cassie helped Cedric with homework, and Cedric helped Cassie. They were a team.
Cassie still didn't like Professor Snape. And her dislike deepened when he gave them detention for trying to put charms on the tables in the Great Hall.
"I've never had detention with Snape. Is it bad?" Cedric asked the twins as they made their way to the trophy hall. "This one will be. Polishing trophies all night with no magic? Just kill me now." Fred said glumly. "Snape is very particular. He'll make sure you get every single smudge off, I guarantee." said George with a sigh. "What was he even doing in the Great Hall?" Cassie asked. The three boys shrugged.
Detention with Snape was just as bad as Cassie had expected. She had polished an entire cabinet of trophies, and Snape made her do it all over again because "she was lazy and didn't do it correctly." It was even worse having him swoop over to you whenever you stopped for more then five seconds.
"Keep...working young...miss." He would say through gritted teeth. Finally he let them go. Cedric and Cassie said goodnight to the twins and headed to their dorm.
"Final exams are coming up. Do you think you're ready?" Cassie asked Cedric one evening in the common room. "Yeah. In everything but Charms." Cedric said with a grin. "You can look over my notes before the exam." Cassie said smiling. She went back to the book she was reading. "I...I'll miss you." Cedric said suddenly. Cassie looked at him. "This summer. I don't really have any other friends." he said, staring at the fire.
Cassie searched his face. She knew he didn't have any siblings or cousins. He seemed sad and lonely. "Maybe you could come to Godric's Hollow for a while?" Cedrics face lit up. "You think so?" Cassie grinned. "My birthdays in June. You could come then! And we could meet up in Diagon Alley! And we'll write of course." Cedrics smiled at her. "I'd like that."
Cassie and Cedric passed their exams with flying colors, and spent the last days of school outside. The twins had joined them and they were sitting by the lake. "When is your cousin coming to Hogwarts Cassie?" Fred asked. "Not till next year. He's only nine this July. Why?" she said. "Our little brother Ron is nine as well. Maybe they'll be friends." George said with a smirk. They all laughed and drank in the sun.
"You'll write?" Cassie asked Cedric before parting at the station. "Of course I will. And I'll see you in June." he smiled at her. "And we can meet at Diagon Alley, just tell me when you'll be there."
Cassie looked him in the eye. "Thank you." she said softly. "For what?" Cedric asked. "For being my friend." Cassie stood on tip toe and kissed his cheek, then ran towards her family, waving as she went. Cedric stared after her, shocked. He shook it off and found his parents.
"Did you see that?" hissed Lily in James's ear. "No. What?" Lily gave him an annoyed look. "Cassie! She kissed the Diggory boy on the cheek! Do you think she likes him?" James frowned. "How am I supposed to know?" At that moment Cassie came bounding up and hugged them all tightly.
They headed home on the for another happy summer.
