How not to have a nice day
Percy stood in front of his classroom door. It was the first day of school and the hallway was filled with students greeting each other, swearing could be heard as students had to see their new locker's miserable state. Just like himself, Percy thought as he sighed. Not only that he was a new kid, the transfer student he didn't know anyone from this school! He had heard that this school was a part of the STEM learning thingy thing so some schools were connected. It meant that all of the students probably knew each other since Kindergarten! The least to say Percy was nervous. He reminded himself trying to calm his nerves that he wanted to change schools so he can learn better, Nick assured him that this school (as a school should be) would help him learn despite his dyslexia. But Percy had doubts, his last school labeled him as a trouble maker, even if his ADHD and dyslexia made him a little distractive it didn't make him a delinquent, also it wasn't his fault a large man followed him when he was at school! He definitely wasn't crazy and hallucinating when he told them the guy had one big eye! The thoughts of his old school made Percy angry but it made his nervousness go away. With a final sigh, he opened the door to his new classroom.
He would have told the teacher good morning, or asked someone if he could sit next to them or even just say hi… but he was the only one in the classroom, not even the teacher was present.
What were all those people outside then?! Damn Uncle Phil insisting on being early.
"Damn it…" Percy muttered
It was the end of the first period. Percy tried his best to be attentive just like Nick told/taught him when listening in class.
The ringing of the bell sounded at the end of the class. The teacher was nice and he asked if Percy needed any help, and that Percy could come to his office anytime if he wanted to that is.
When the homeroom teacher left Percy was quickly surrounded by a group of students who eagerly greeted him.
"Hi"
"You said you want to be called Percy right?"
"Uh yeah. My first name is a bit of a mouthful"
"My name's Jason," He then put out his fist for a fist bump. Jason was nice and friendly Percy guessed since he was saying hi to the new kid so…. Nicely... He was wearing those new sneakers Percy was eyeing last week so Percy assumed that he will get to like him.
"This is Sarah-" Jason gestured to the girl next to him. "Hi!" she said with a smile. Sarah was wearing square full rimmed glasses, with that purple shirt that only a fourth-grader can achieve to look nice, and she seemed very energetic with the way she was bouncing on the soles of her feet.
"And that's Mark" Now Mark looked like the typical kid who looks like he doesn't care/ bored look on his face, and whenever he is in a presentation or a picture his blond hair sticks up straighter than a ruler but otherwise is a nice guy. He's also, a 'wears striped T-shirts, everyday' kind of person.
"So Percy, what do you like to do for fun?" Sarah asked
"Uh, I don't know? I mean I do martial arts so I guess I like doing that?"
"Cool! I want to learn how to kick ass with cool martial arts moves but my mom says no" Mark groaned
Jason patted Mark on the back "I wouldn't let you go either if I was your mom and with the many times you manage to trip on your own two feet I wouldn't even let you go to art class!"
Sarah burst into a fit of giggles as Mark sighed "Yeah Mark! Wouldn't want you making a face painting this time!"
"That was one time! I tripped on the teacher that time at least!"
"Yeah… hey, Percy check out that painting on the wall- yeah the framed one who do you think it is?"
"Is that really Mark?!"
Jason nodded with a big grin on his face
Mark made a 'V under his chin with his fingers "The teacher liked my handsome face so much he framed it- just look at my great art skills"
Percy snickered "Didn't your face hurt?"
"Nope, actually, I just tripped into the big paint bucket- it was a class art thing. Now the paper on the other hand…."
"-It was soo funny!" Sarah said
"Hey, you try getting dried paint off of your hair! Not funny at all"
"Whatever- Jason tell Percy about that time when Mark tripped on a rock and kissed that sixth-grader!"
"No! Don't tell Percy!"
Jason grinned with mirth in his eye "So it was recess-"
"NOOOOO!"
Percy was smiling and laughing- he could get used to this. Percy thought happily.
When a demigod finds their way to Camp Half-Blood, a satyr usually finds them first and leads them to the camp. A demigod has a scent that attracts monsters, and since the satyrs can smell demigods they find them by their scent also- just don't ask them what you smell like, they never seem to want to answer for some reason… Satyrs try to go to 'troubled students' schools and search for them in the school, if a demigod that is not of the big three (they are a different story) that has stronger powers than their siblings, they will tend to be more trouble makers and have a stronger scent but if a satyr does not find the demigod first most of the time the demigod will get killed by monsters so they try to find them as earliest as possible between fifth year and sixth year is the most preferable.
Satyrs not only have to find demigods in the smelly cities they have to be careful of a lot of things- cats seem to find fake feet interesting- but the main things they have to be careful of and avoid are the Kindly Ones (obviously), clear-sighted mortals (Fake feet and hats are a must! 40% off for the first buy and 20% off if you have a membership! And if you have a- for Hade's sake Hermes! No Ads!), Subways (not the brand duh), and Elite Schools. Now satyrs took these rules seriously, Grover is such satyr, though he wants to be a Searcher he didn't take his role as Keeper lightly. It is a hard job being a Keeper especially if a demigod does not make it…
Grover was having a very bad day. First, he had to go into the middle of the city which has so many bad smells! A cat scratched his (fake) foot, his hat was blown off by the wind and a dog stole it from him! He tried to bribe the dog with some acorns, now he has no acorns and his hat is now with the dog's owner. Secondly, of all the times he has to meet a Clear-Sighted Mortal he has to meet her when he was trying to put back on his fake foot! Grover was lucky that the girl was with her parents so she couldn't run over to him to point it out. Not that the poor girl's parents would have believed her, but she still saw him! Grover had this feeling about that clear-sighted red-headed girl who had blue paint all over clothes, not the bad kind of feeling that all satyrs could feel but just something was off… Grover soon forgot all about that when a strong scent caught his attention. It was the unforgettable scent of a demigod! Grover couldn't believe such a smell so strong! Grover's first thought was that it was the smell was of one of the- no it wasn't possible it couldn't be! And shouldn't be! He shook his head and sniffed the air again.
Grover tried to track the scent. But something was weird there couldn't be a half-blood in this part of the city. He didn't think there were any 'trouble maker' schools in this area. He could be wrong Grover thought. Or the demigod might just be homeschool, or just really young- oh he hated when the demigods were too young! It was really hard to try and explain it or maybe they were older? But that sadly wasn't possible since most- "Oof!" Grover's nervous chatter of his mind was cut off as he bumped into a person
"Oh, I'm so sorry! Are you alright?" a voice said
Grover groaned, he had landed on the sidewalk on his bottom "Nah it's alright man."
"I'm sorry I should have paid attention to where I was going! Let me help you up"
"No, I was the one who was lost in his thoughts, thanks for the help" When he got up Grover dusted off his clothes. He slowly looked up to the voice as he did.
"Here let me pick those up for you" The voice was a boy, he looked to be at least 12 years old, had messy jet black hair, had a Mediterranean complexion, and he had sea-green eyes. He almost looked exactly like Posei- no wait. Grover sniffed the air, he couldn't believe his luck! He found the scent he had been tracking! Maybe today wasn't such a bad day after all!
"Anyway, I have to go now, sorry for bumping into you!" And the boy ran off in a hurry.
"No- wait!" Grover quickly chased the boy. It would have been easier as he was half-goat but the boy was really fast and he had his cover to hold on to! He groaned and ditched the crutches.
A man looked scandalized as he threw his crutches into an alley he muttered something rude as Grover zoomed past.
When Grover finally catches up to the boy who was running towards a school. In front of the school were two other boys and a girl.
"Guys sorry I'm late!" the probably (definitely) demigod said to the group who waved back with equal enthusiasm
"Percy I thought meeting in front of our school, this time would stop you from being late!"
"Sarah, you just came here not just a second ago I don't think that you can-"
"Oh shut it, Mark,"
The conversation went on with them laughing at something a coffee-tone-skinned boy named Jason as they walked the other way.
Grover was sweating, he gulped as he looked up at the school. He knew that he couldn't be that lucky!
"Di immortals, why didI had to find a demigod who goes to an Elite School of all places!"
Grover knew that today was a very bad day…
Now all he had to do now was to think how he was supposed to tell Chiron and Mr. D that he found a demigod with a strong scent… without mentioning that a mortal saw his hoof and his chasing escapade….. Oh, he was so dead! The Council would kill him for all those rules he had broken! He would never get his Searchers License- not only that he might even get his Keepers license revoked!
Grover let out a nervous bleet and sighed accepting his fate. Today was so not his day.
