Hello everybody! It's a beautiful day here, perfect for posting a new chapter! So here goes! Okay, so this new chapter takes place during weirdmaggedon, and it's basically like my whumpier take on when Mabel was trapped in the bubble and Dipper saves her. When I was writing it, I got so into it that I had to split this chapter into two parts! So here's part 1, hope you enjoy!
Disclaimer: I still don't own GF (sadly)
bubble, bubble, toil And trouble
The pounding in her head is the first thing Mabel feels when she regains consciousness. The second is the eerie silence surrounding her. Mabel tentatively squints her eyes open and is surprised when only a faint light greets them. She opens them the rest of the way and groggily sits up. Ugh, what happened? Where am I? Where's Dipper? Is he okay?! Many thoughts run through Mabel's head, and with each passing breath her panic increases. Okay Mabel, just calm down. Think, you can do this!
The last thing Mabel remembers is running into the forest after Dipper said he wasn't coming home with her. Then she gave Blendin Blandin the weird swirly orb thing so he could make summer last longer. But then his eyes glowed yellow - like when Bill took over Dipper - and Mabel felt a sharp pain before falling unconscious. The next thing she knows, she's waking up with a blinding headache.
Mabel scans the dark, unfamiliar room, looking for any sign of recognition. She tries to stand, and the room spins. Nope, not doing that. She sits back with a thud and leans against the wall. Mabel yelps and recoils in shock as her hand touches ice-cold metal. Where the heck is she? This doesn't look like anything she's seen in Gravity Falls, although she sure hasn't seen everything. Is this some sort of underground bunker?
As Mabel's eyes start to adjust, she notices the room is pulsing with a very faint pink light. Looking around for the source, Mabel spots a window a few feet above her head. Determination fueling her, Mabel tries to stand up again. This time instead of succumbing to the dizziness she waits for it to pass. Standing up to her full height, she just reaches the sill of the window. A large pink dome is the first thing she sees. It seems to be the source of the light. It also seems to stretch as far as her eyes can see. But what is outside of this bubble? Gravity Falls? She has so many questions and so few answers.
The second thing she notices are the creatures roaming the place. Cats and waffle people patrol the floor of the bubble, spears and other weapons in their hands - or paws. They are probably here to keep her in. Mabel grumbles, knowing that this is all Bills doing. He's keeping her captive and keeping her from her brother. Bill is probably torturing him right now. Gosh, I hope Dipper is okay…
CLICK!
Mabel jumps, the loud sound ripping her from her thoughts. She whips around and notices a piece of the wall jiggling. No…not the wall. There's a door there that Mabel didn't notice before. And someone's opening it! Mabel raises her fists, ready to put up a fight. She will not go down easy! Bill won't win! The door opens and in walks…
"Dipper?!" Mabel drops her fists as her brother walks in, his pine tree hat covering the top half of his face. He's here to save her! She rushes forward and flings her arms around him. He stiffens and she quickly pulls away. Oh no is he hurt? Mabel does a quick once-over but can't tell if Dippers injured in the dim lighting. Once they leave she'll check him better.
"C'mon, we've got to go!" Mabel says, pulling his arm and walking out the door. She stops suddenly as Dipper doesn't budge. She turns around and tries dragging him out but he still won't move. "What are you waiting for? We have to get out of here!"
"No…" Dipper says, chuckling darkly. "You're not going anywhere." Dipper turns to face her and removes his hat. Mabel gasps in surprise and fear as his eyes glow yellow. This…this is not the Dipper she knows and loves. This is Bill, and he's possessed her brother's body again! Bipper is back! Although he seems different than last time…His skin is a pale, sickly yellow and his smile isn't human. Whoever this person is, he's freaking Mabel out.
'Dipper' advances on her, his hands glowing blue. Mabel tries to run out the door but it slams in her face. Cornered like an animal, Mabel presses her back against the wall as much as she can. A sob escapes her throat as 'Dipper' raises his hands, ready to strike.
"No…no…NO!"
It's been three days since Weirdmaggedon started and Dipper still can't find Mabel. To say he's worried is an understatement. He's been trying to get a hold of her on his walkie talkie but it hasn't worked. She could have been turned into stone…or worse.
Things are getting weirder by the second. Dipper's seen the unimaginable; people whose face holes are mixed up, walking water towers, Toby with a mohawk, flying eyeballs, and so much more.
Grunkle Ford is a golden statue, the journals have been burned, Mabel and Grunkle Stan are missing, and most of the town has been turned to stone. All Dipper has left is Wendy. Thankfully nothing bad's happened to her. She was right about that apocalypse training paying off.
The duo sits on the roof of the mall, watching Weirdmaggedon unfold. Dipper is clutching a Pitt soda for dear life, like it's his only anchor to this world.
"The end of the world...man, those death-metal album covers got it shockingly right." Wendy says, taking a sip of her own soda. How can she be so calm about this?! Mabel's gone, her friends are gone, they're all gone! Dipper frowns and stares at the ground.
"Y'know, I used to think I could get out of anything. But this?" Dipper stands up and paces away from Wendy, "The journals are destroyed, Ford's captured, and I can't find my family anywhere! Bill said it himself, there's no room for heroes out here. We lost."
"Look, dude, it's not over yet." Wendy says, walking over to him, "You've beaten Bill twice before. Why is this time any different?"
"Because then I had Mabel." Dipper blinks back tears as he realizes his words are true. Without Mabel he never would have been able to do any of the stuff he's done this summer. Without Mabel he would never have had the courage to step up and fight the paranormal. Without Mabel, he's just a nobody.
"Then you need to get Mabel back." Wendy's voice grows in determination. She grabs Dipper's shoulders and turns him to face her. "Look, this summer I've seen some amazing things. But nothing as amazing as you and your sister. I don't know if it's dumb luck, or yin and yang, or whatever, but when you two work together theres like, nothing you can't accomplish. You just need to make up, team up, and save the universe!"
Dipper smiles, hope returning to him for the first time in three days. If he can find Mabel…maybe they'll have a fighting chance. Then another thought occurs to him.
"But how will we ever find her?"
BOOM!
A tremor runs through the ground and shakes the mall's foundations. Dipper and Wendy grab onto each other for support. Under different circumstances holding Wendy would have Dipper blushing like a tomato, but right now there are flying eyeballs. There's no time to be embarrassed or have a crush on someone.
Looking to the source of the quake, Dipper spots a giant prune-looking creature with one eye, arms coming out of its mouth, and too many legs to count. Freaky. It rips a billboard from the ground and eats it.
As it walks away, Dipper sees something in the distance that the billboard was previously covering up. It looks like a bubble. A floating pink bubble that is being chained to the ground. Whatever is in there must be important. Wait a minute…Dipper looks closer and notices that there is some sort of symbol etched onto the side. His jaw drops and his Pitt soda falls from his hands.
"The shooting star from Mabel's sweater!" Dipper exclaims, "She's in there. I know it."
"Woah, is that like twin ESP?" Wendy asks. Dipper turns to her and smirks, rolling his eyes.
"No, we don't have that but we do have this thing where our allergies totally act up at the same time." Dipper sneezes then continues, "Mabel needs us! But…how are we going to get over there without getting caught?"
Dipper looks back and the bubble and his eyes immediately widen. The swarm of monsters seems to have thickened since the last time he looked over there. Which was only like two seconds ago, how fast is Bill creating these things?!
"I have an idea!" Wendy says, a mischievous glint in her eye. Uh oh.
Dipper and Wendy (and Toby) arrive at an old car dealership. Wendy pulls out some binoculars - where was she hiding those?! - and scans the area.
"The old abandoned automart." She says, "Free cars right for the hotwiring! We found our ride to Mabel!" She jumps over the fence and Dipper quickly follows. They run into the parking lot, looking at all the cars.
"So what kind of vehicle are we searching for?" Dipper asks, "Some of these look pretty busted up."
"I wonder if they have a tank! I've always wanted to drive one!" Wendy exclaims, glancing around excitedly. She runs deeper into the lot and Dipper slowly follows. A shiver runs down his spine, feeling as though someones watching him. The quicker they find a car and get out, the better.
"I can't believe this place is abandoned." Dipper catches up with Wendy, totally freaked out. If only Mabel were here. She would start telling silly stories or singing songs to keep the mood light. Gosh, I hope Mabel is okay…
Suddenly Dipper hears a loud thud to his right and he jumps. Turning around Dipper sees Toby collapsed on the ground, multiple tranquilizer darts sticking into him.
"Oh no, Tony!" Wendy pauses and leans down to whisper to Dipper, "Wait, was it Tony? I can never remember his name." Bright lights suddenly flash in the duo's eyes and they stumble back, blinded. Dipper squints and slowly his sight returns. The lights look like…headlights on a truck? Ominous and definitely evil laughter surrounds them, and Dipper clings to Wendy so hard she winces in pain. He knew something was off about this place!
"Well well, looks like we got ourselves a pair of ground walkers." A voice calls out from one of the trucks. They cackle and Dipper glares at them, finally releasing his grip on Wendy as she steps forward and calls out to the strangers.
"Listen Discount Auto-warriors!" She begins.
"We just want to make it to that bubble out east! We have no quarrel with you!" Dipper finishes.
"Oh but that's where you're wrong. Hands where I can see them!" A new, deep, voice shouts. Dipper and Wendy's hands automatically go up. Whoever this guy is, he's not to be messed with. "Y'all fellers ain't goin' nowhere."
"Y'all?" Wendy asks.
"Fellers?" Dipper's eyes widen in realization. "Wait, Gideon?!"
"That's Sheriff Gideon to you! Under the authority of Bill Cipher, I place you two under arrest!"
Two of Gideons goons walk behind Wendy and Dipper, guiding them to one of Gideons many monster trucks. Where on earth did he get so many? Actually, not important. A bunch of monster trucks is hardly the weirdest thing Dippers seen these past few days. The goons shove Wendy and Dipper hard and they go sprawling to the ground.
"My old pal Bill figured you might try and rescue Mabel, so he appointed me master of these wastelands and keeper of the bubble! My sweet precious Mabel is trapped inside, and I have the only key!" Gideon pulls out a large gold key with a shooting star on it from around his neck. Dipper's eyes narrow and all he feels is rage that this, this monster would do that to Mabel!
"Gideon you have no right to keep her in there!"
"Bill explained it to me nice and simple. She was always destined to be mine! And now that I have her in a cage she'll be conditioned to love me!"
Dipper's stomach drops at Gideons choice of words. Conditioned. Conditioned, like a disobedient dog getting whipped into shape. Conditioned, like Pacifica's reaction whenever her father rings that bell. Conditioned, like Mabel being beaten senseless until she can't take it anymore. Until she admits that she 'loves' Gideon. No. Nonononono. Dipper won't stand by and let this happen. He feels tears of anguish and rage threatening to spill.
"Conditioned?! You monster! If you lay so much as a grubby little finger on her, I'll-"
"You'll what, Dipstick? You're my prisoners, I'm going to deliver you to Bill and you'll never see the light of day again! Now, Ghost Eyes, grab them!"
A guy called Ghost Eyes steps forward and grabs the back of Dipper and Wendy's shirts, holding them in midair. Dipper struggles desperately to get out of his grip but Wendy just calmly stares Gideon down. Dipper sucks in a breath as her gaze hardens and he shivers, glad she's on his side. If he was Gideon, he'd start running right about now.
"This isn't going to work." Wendy states. Dipper looks at her and raises an eyebrow. Out of all the things she could have said he sure wasn't expecting that. 'This isn't going to work' huh? Then why are they still prisoners of Gideon and about to be transported to Bill? No offense Wendy, but it seems like it's working out pretty well, Dipper thinks angrily.
"Oh? And why's that?" Gideon asks, confident and cocky.
"Because after I break Ghost Eyes arm, and steal that key from your neck, I'm going to wear your butt on my foot like a rhinestone slipper." Wendy's voice is even, and Dipper knows she's being completely serious. He gulps, remembering just how many years of apocalypse training she's had. No one else knows this, and Gideons goons start to crack up.
"Yeah, and what makes you think you can do all that?" Gideon taunts.
"Because. I'm. A. Flippin. CORDUROY!" Wendy shouts. In the blink of an eye she flips herself over Ghost Eyes shoulder, using pure body strength. She plants her feet in his back and tugs on his arm until it snaps. Dipper yelps as he's tossed from Ghost Eyes other hand and goes crashing into the ground. He quickly rolls into a ball and the big man trips over him. Wendy vaults over to Gideon and snaps the key from his neck. She grabs him by the collar and flips back next to Dipper, who's staring at her in awe. Dipper knows he said this was no time for a crush, but that was before Wendy saved his life in the sickest way possible. Now the crush is back full force.
"Stay back!" Wendy shouts, swinging Gideon around, "Get back! Or I will drop-kick him, I swear!" Wendy runs to the closest car and smashes the window. She fiddles with the lock and opens the door, shoving Dipper in.
"You'll never get away with this!" Gideon shouts.
"Guess what? I already did!" Wendy swings her foot back and drop-kicks Gideon, sending him flying into his own men. Wow, I am in love with this woman, Dipper thinks, his face burning up.
"Wendy, you're the coolest person I know."
"I know dude, tell me about it later." Wendy finishes hotwiring the car and speeds off, leaving Gideon and his henchmen in the dust. Dipper looks behind him and sees Gideon has recovered from his drop-kicking much quicker than Dipper thought he would. The Discount Warriors are quickly gaining on the duo. At this rate, they'll never make it to Mabel's bubble.
"Okay all we have to do is out-race Gideons henchmen, unlock the bubble, save Mabel, save the world." Dipper just prays they're not too late. What if Mabel is already 'conditioned' to be in love with Gideon? She's probably so scared, and lonely. Dipper feels like kicking himself for ending things in a fight. For all he knows she could be dead and his last words to her was that he's leaving her forever!
"Dude, relax, we can do this." Wendy reassures him. They dodge around flying mailboxes and giant heads. Dipper looks back and sees Gideons forces slowing down. They're doing it! They're going to save Mabel! Dipper turns front again and sees his view is blocked by a colorful but dangerous field of weirdness bubbles. Ah, so that's why the Discount Warriors were slowing down.
"Watch it! Go around that bubble field!" He shouts as Wendy doesn't slow down. Does she not see it or something?
"There's no way around! Hold on, we're going through!" Wendy presses harder on the gas pedal and the car speeds up, straight into one of the bubbles…
A few minutes later and they are out of the field. The bubbles were...weird to say the least. Dipper will never ever unsee the contents of those colorful orbs.
"We do not speak of this." Wendy says, eyes wide and staring straight ahead.
"What happens in the bubble stays in the bubble." Dipper responds, mirroring her pose. He shudders, never wanting to go inside another one ever again. Well, except for Mabel's bubble, that is.
Something crashes into the side of the car and Dipper snaps back into reality. The Discount Warriors close in, breaking the window on Wendy's side. She raises her arm to shield herself as pieces of glass rain down on her, cutting her face and arm. How the heck did Gideon catch up to them so fast?! Did he follow them through the bubbles? Is that how desperate he is for Mabel's love?
"Wendy we're almost there!" Dipper points dead ahead, "We just have to make that jump!"
"Total lack of drivers training, don't fail me now." Wendy mutters, gripping the steering wheel for dear life. She shifts gears and speeds ahead of Gideons goon. They near the edge, getting closer...closer...and they're airborne! For a few moments Dipper and Wendy are flying. Then those moments pass and gravity takes ahold.
They crash back to the ground, the car flipping over and over and over again. Dipper feels the Pitt soda crawl up his throat and he forces it back down. He's tossed around like a ragdoll, his seatbelt the only thing keeping him from breaking his neck. Although it's not doing him any favors either. Dipper jerks forward and the seatbelt crushes his ribs, all air getting sucked out of him. Then the vehicle finally comes to a stop.
Groaning, Dipper manages to open the door and falls out of the car. His head throbs, his legs feel weak, and he can feel scratches and bruises all up his body. But most importantly, he can't breathe. He can't breathe, he can't breathe, he can't breathe. Is this how Mabel felt when she choked on those M&M's? Or when Luke was picking on her?
Gasping like a fish out of water, Dipper rolls onto his back. This alleviates some of the tension is his chest, but not enough for him to take in a full gulp of air. So he lies there, Mabel and her bubble just out of reach. At least Gideon and his crew can't get to him and Wendy.
After a few minutes of painful attempts at breathing, Dipper forces himself to roll back onto his stomach. He came here to save his sister, and save her he will. Slowly but surely, Dipper starts inching his way to the floating bubble.
"So close…Mabel...I'm…almost there…" Dipper groans, Mabel is right there yet he can't get to her! If it weren't for his stupid, busted up ribs, he would be there already.
A shadow falls over him and Dipper looks up to see a hooded figure standing in his path. Dipper gulps as the figure looms over him. He can't do anything to defend himself. It's taking all he can to stay conscious. Then the figure reaches out a hand. Hesitantly Dipper takes it and the person helps him up. Dipper struggles to stand, a whole new wave of pain washing over him. And if he thought breathing while lying down was hard, breathing while standing is a new kind of agony.
"Heya Dipper, how's it hanging!" A familiar voice says. Dipper looks up and blinks away his fogginess as the figure removes his hood to reveal none other than Soos!
"Soos!" Dipper shouts excitedly, Wendy echoing from behind. He immediately winces after saying that, his ribs not too pleased with excited shouting.
"Handy man of the apocalypse, at your service!" Soos guides Dipper back to the banged up car, and he gratefully leans against it. Then Soos rushes over to Wendy, who doesn't look too good either. She has a bunch of cuts with glass sticking out of them all up her arm. And she has a gash on her head, from where it must have slammed against the steering wheel. After helping her sit, Soos starts bandaging her up. "The good news is, your arm will be okay!"
"And what's the bad news?" Dipper asks.
"We're surrounded, dude."
Dipper looks up and sees that Soos is right. The Discount Warriors have completely surrounded them, having taken full advantage of their brief distraction. But how on earth did they get across the canyon? Who knows, Dipper is in too much pain to ponder over it for long.
"Whoo-wee!"
Dipper whips around and spots Gideon blocking his path to Mabel.
"I daresay you almost had the jump on me! But this ain't your Gravity Falls anymore. Out here, I win!" Gideon claps his hands and someone hands him a horn. He blows into it and laughs maniacally while Dipper winces at the noise.
"What did you do?!" He cries out.
"Bill's henchmen will be here any minute to retrieve y'all! Mabel's mine now!" Gideon raises his hands victorily and Dipper frowns. Maybe it's the pain clouding his mind, but something inside him makes Dipper open his mouth.
"Is she?"
"Well, yeah. I have her trapped. Ergo, Mabel is mine."
"Gideon, listen to me. If I've learned anything this summer, it's that you can't force someone to love you. So no matter how much you torture her, or how long you keep her locked away, Mabel will never truly love you."
"Oh yes she will!"
"The best you can do is strive to be someone worthy of loving."
"I am so worthy of loving! These prisoners love me!" The prisoners in question start cheering and Gideon smirks. Dipper sighs, he won't give up. He's so close to Mabel and he is not letting her slip through his fingers. They are in no condition to fight, so the only way to get past Gideon is to make him an ally rather than an enemy.
"But Mabel doesn't, because you're selfish. You are hurting her just so you can have her all to yourself!" Dipper cringes internally at what Gideon is having done to Mabel. He wants to cut Gideon down to size right here, right now. But he knows that won't solve anything. The only way to get to Mabel is for Gideon to let them pass. Taking a deep breath, Dipper continues. "But you can change! Bill thinks there's no heroes in this world, but if we work together and fight back we can defeat him! You want to be Mabel's hero? Stand up to Bill and let us save her!"
"That's crazy! Y'know what Bill would do to me if that happens?" Gideon shudders and Dipper starts to actually feel bad for him. Bill is a terrifying demon of chaos, Gideon wouldn't stand a chance.
"Look inside, Gideon. If all of this is for Mabel, then ask yourself what Mabel would want you to do." Gideon goes silent and Dipper worries his words didn't work. He's about to start talking again when Gideon speaks up.
"Dipper? Will you tell her what I did?" Gideon has tears in his eyes. Dipper nods, albeit confused.
"O-of course."
"Guys new plan!" Gideon shouts, addressing his henchmen, "Bill will be on us in seconds, but I'm not going to let him be the warden of me. You guys ready to start an old fashioned prison brawl?"
"We're behind you for life, brother!" Ghost Eyes says, while the others cheer in agreement behind him.
"Then let's do this!" Gideon hopes back in his car and spares Dipper one last glance before driving off, the rest of the Discount Warriors close behind. Well that went better than expected. Dipper watches the fade into the distance before turning back to Mabel's bubble, key in hand. Dipper and Wendy lean on Soos and together they carefully approach the bubble
"Remember guys, this was a prison bubble designed by Bill. So we have to prepare ourselves for whatever we'll find in here."
"Whatever it is, we'll fight it together. For Mabel." Soos says, placing a hand in front of Dipper.
"For Mabel!" Wendy repeats, placing her hand on top of Soos's.
"For Mabel." Dipper finishes, determination in his voice. He places his hand on the pile then steps up to the bubble. He raises the key to the lock and unlocks it. The chains fall away, crashing to the ground far below. Dipper grabs Soos's hand then Wendys, and together they enter the bubble of magic.
Boom! Only 2 chapters left! See you next week! And if you could be so kind as to leave a review or follow/favorite this story, that would be absolutely amazing! Love you guys!
