Not gonna sit here and act like I put all I had into the last few chapters since about chapter 1 :) Getting this one out was an emotional tug of war between my social life and this. From now, I'll try to get back to the quality of the Introductory chapter. Hope you enjoy this, despite the limitations it may have.
"Mikasa, we need to talk," Eren said as he kept his eyes on the road.
"Why?"
"You've been acting strange lately and I put it on myself to deal with it."
"I'm not acting strange, I'm just a bit fuzzed out from not being able to feel my nose; not like you'd understand that," Mikasa said with a bland expression. "Anyway, they've put me and Annie on a counselling programme to coerce us into dealing with each other, which is a bit petty in my eyes," Eren said.
"I guess. For what it's worth, I'm sorry that you got dragged into my affair. Hopefully, it won't last too long."
"It's alright, but can you tell me what happened?"
Mikasa's cheeks flared up in awkwardness "Uhh- I- Why'd you need to know?"
"No particular reason, it's not like I was the one who got in trouble for your actions. No, that's not the case."
"Mikasa, you should tell him; he deserves to know,"
'Wha- Ymir, you need to stop popping into my head without warning or booking an appointment or something along those lines,'
"Is it agitating you?"
'Yes, it is,'
Ymir chuckled in a sinister fashion "I'll make sure to pop in here unannounced just to surprise you; who knows, I might even come in while you're asleep to wake you up. I could even give you some dreams that you don't want, I might-"
'I get the point; do your worst,'
"But, tell him, Mikasa; he's interested for good reasons and not just for gossip or whatever you guys call it nowadays," Ymir advised.
Mikasa rolled her eyes in dismissal but considered Ymir's words and decided to tell Eren what had happened; "Eren, don't take this the wrong way, but when you were placed next to Annie for homeroom my jealousy took over; so I wanted her to know that you weren't up for grabs. I did it because I like you. A lot. And I want to be with you, till death do us apart."
Silence engulfed the car as Eren processed what his sister had told her.
'Since when did Mikasa become a pastor; "Till death do us part" my ass lol. But I seriously need to let her know what I feel cos we can't have her thinking the wrong things,'
"Mikasa, I'm flattered, but I just don't see you in that way; whether we're blood-related or not, you'll always be my sister…"
"Oh, that's ok I guess," Mikasa said as she tucked into her scarf; the scarf that Eren had given her that day, she was attached to it and it was a part of her identity. it would always be.
Beep. Beep. Beeeeeep!
Annie didn't even bother cursing at her alarm clock and turned it off peacefully. 8 AM, later than normal. She grabbed a fresh towel from the laundry room and headed into the shower to do her business.
After a 20-minute session in the bathroom, Annie got her clothes in check; a black star wars hoodie and dark grey sweatpants, with a plain white tee underneath. She headed downstairs uncharismatically.
She picked up a sandwich she prepared yesterday and grabbed her wallet, along with her phone, before jerking her jacket off of the ageing coat hanger and setting off into the frosty autumn climate.
After a few minutes of walking, Annie had made her way to a nearby bus stop and sat down for a while, before getting on the next bus, and getting off at the stop nearest to the school. She walked through the front door and slid across the icy floor into the main building.
Eren. Ereen. Eren!" The soft voice barely made an impact when the brunette registered it, he just rolled over and pulled the warming silk sheets up to his neck. "We're going to be late for school." Eren shot up from his slumber, glancing at his spider-man alarm clock; 8:45. Shit.
He scrambled into the bathroom and quickly brushed his teeth while unbuttoning his blue PJ's. Mikasa sighed, this was all too familiar. Eren had never woken up on time, for anything, despite the numerous opportunities to do so.
Mikasa left some clothes on the nightstand, before heading into Eren's car.
Eren hastily wrapped himself in his towel and dashed into his bedroom, spotting the clothes on the table he mentally thanked his sister and got dressed quickly. He bolted downstairs, picked up the sandwich his mother had left on the kitchen table and got in the car.
Mikasa sat in the driver's seat and started up the car; Eren and Mikasa had studied up for years before they both turned 16 for their driver's license, so they both aced the test.
Annie walked through to her locker and put all the unnecessary stuff in there. As she was walking off to homeroom, Annie was spotted by a familiar face; Hitch the Bitch, as she was named by her peers.
"Heyy-"
"Shut up, hitch," Annie retorted in grimacing fashion.
Hitch's expression went flat at this stodgy response which was a usual thing with Annie. The two had been inseparable from their early years, with their mother's knowing each other from their college days. So Hitch had adapted to this, but wasn't exactly happy about it, being the vibrant girl she was known to be.
"How've you been? Have you got the new edition of call of duty?"
Annie shook her head violently in response.
"Ok then… Soooo, I heard that you got into a fight, is that right Annie?"
Annie grunted in response.
'Why do I have to deal with this unsociable piece of- I'll keep that to myself,'
"Anyways, I'm going to the wireless festival this month, I know it's not your scene but I don't wanna go by myself."
"And how does that affect me in any way, shape, or form?"
"Uhh… I was just thinking that maybe you could come with me so I can have some company, I'll buy you another one of those Call of Duty hoodies if you come along."
"Not a chance."
"But-"
"No, I'm not going to your shitty concert and I can buy a hoodie with my own money, meaning you can't buy me off," Annie explained smugly.
Hitch pouted like a child who had been grounded and had their toys confiscated from them. "Why'd you gotta be such a bummer, eh Annie?"
The blonde shrugged in reply.
Hitch sighed in defeat and accepted that she'd be going to the festival on her own, the two went their separate ways. Annie walked into homeroom and got seated, then began to watch some anime before the bell signalling the start of school rang.
Eren walked in subsequently and took his seat next to her, not saying much. Mikasa came in not long after and gave her usual glance at Annie. All the usual stuff took place in homeroom. They were all dismissed to their first lessons; Eren had maths with Mr Levi.
The lesson had ended as fast as it had started for Eren despite having to deal with Levi, who constantly had a stick up his ass or in more simple terms was a bit of a perfectionist, which wasn't entirely wrong as it pushed you to reach higher standards, but it was the way he outputted the teaching strategy that got him the dislike within the students he lectured.
Next was history. They were discussing the circumstances that led to World War II, something that Eren already knew inside out. Not only that, but half of his class were such unbelievable half-wits that they only covered about half of Hitler's rise to power, stopping at the time he became Reich Chancellor of Germany, in an hour. 'I could cover the whole of WW2 with any semi-decent documentary, and we're wasting time with this crap'
Lunch break had clocked about and Annie made for her radiator, leaning against it, a nice source of heat; winter had its upsides. She was about to get some music to zone herself out, then a familiar voice broke her train of thoughts.
"Hey, Annie."
"Hi, Bertholdt."
Bertholdt smiled. "You think you can scooch over a bit?"
"Yeah," Annie said as she moved over.
"So, How've you-"
"Shouldn't you be hanging with your other friends?" Annie interjected.
"Oh. I just wanted to speak with you; you seem lonely."
"Oh, I get it. So you haven't had the time to speak with me all of the years I've been on my own? It's only when you get something out of it, isn't it? So basic," Annie said as she stormed off into the corridor.
Hitch stumbled out of the gym after overhearing the conversation that Bertholdt and Annie had, feeling pitiful for the guy - Annie could be annoying at times with her antisocial behaviour and endless 'mood swings.
"Bertholdt, move over," Hitch ordered sternly.
Bertholdt created a bit of space for Hitch without making much eye contact with her.
"So what's happened, Bertholdt?"
He stared at his feet for a while, zoning out a bit, before returning to his senses. Holding a hand to his face in frustration and beginning to explain.
"I'm not sure it is that I've done, but she seems to be a bit angry at me for not talking to her more or something like that?"
Hitch rolled her eyes in unamusement; Annie never liked being used, but sometimes she took that a bit out of context and did mind-boggling things like this that would make you think twice about what she was even on about. "Oh, Annie's very strange at times, so if you want to have a healthy, functioning relationship with this girl, you need to adapt to her mindset, to her personality and you have to make her feel that you care about what she thinks."
Bertholdt puffed out in lethargy "I guess you're right, Hitch."
Hitch smiled and gave Bertholdt a friendly hug before going back off to basketball practice.
Eren shoved the last of his books into his locker and set off to his homeroom to meet up with the guys, but on his way, he ran into Armin who had a death stare pasted across his face. Shit.
"So, Eren," Armin started pacing about as he held a hand to his chin.
"We finally managed to crank out a deal in terms of the date that we'd use to start coding our website, and now, you've decided to flake out on me and Annie. You do realise we have to present our first draft by the 18th, right?"
"Uhhh, yeah?"
"Ok then, do you know what today's date is?" Armin interrogated.
"The 15th… shit"
"Oh, so you've noticed the slight dilemma that we have here. We're gonna have to make up for this lost ground, which is why I've invited you and Annie to my house!"
'What? This guy expects me to go to his house? How should I-'
"So make sure to be there at 6," Armin explained, before dashing off to the library.
'Guess I've gotta go now…'
The backend of the day was chilled as per usual.
Mikasa leaned over Eren's car as she waited for him. Not too much time passed before Eren dashed out of the main building and unlocked the car, exchanging a few words with Mikasa.
They got out onto the road and Eren tried to keep to himself, but Mikasa was quick to notice that something was up.
"What's wrong Eren?"
Sweat started to mask Eren's face in his apparent nervousness and he started to fumble on the wheel, Mikasa raised a brow, Eren was acting unusually strange.
"He's hiding something from you," Ymir advised Mikasa.
'Yeah, that's obvious,'
"Eren."
"Yes, Mikasa…" Eren responded as he tilted his neck towards Mikasa, sporting a highly forced smile.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing… But I'm going to Armin's house," Eren announced.
Mikasa was unsettled; Eren was hiding something from her. He never could lie without being caught out, and whatever he was hiding, had to be important.
Mikasa wasn't playing anymore and she let out her death glare to make her feelings visible "Eren, what is so important about going to Armin's house that you can't tell me?"
'For heaven's sake, why's Mikasa always so persistent with these things?'
"Uhh…I mean, how do I put this…"
"What?"
"Me and Armin are doing a computer science project, and we need to do some stuff at his house," Eren explained as he turned on the radio subconsciously.
'Phew, really dodged a-'
"Oh. So you're gonna be with her, aren't you, Eren?"
'Spoke too soon,'
A/N: Not much covered in this chapter, as I said with the beginning notes, I'll try and put more into the coming chapters, so be rest assured.
