The two stayed there for several minutes.

It took a while for the detective to begin to calm down.

Slowly Jay began to relax and rested his head on Hayley's shoulder keeping his eyes closed, breathing as she did.

Luckily she was there.

Usually at times like this the detective did not let anyone near him, only his brother.

But she had something special about her.

She knew when to approach and how, whether to speak or remain silent.

Once he calmed down Jay opened his eyes and looked at the blue sky then helped by Hayley he got up and the two went back to the car to go to the district.

Soon after, Detective Upton stopped and bought a bottle of water for Jay who was facing the window and staring out without speaking.

Lai opened the bottle and passed it to the boy.

He turned and looking into her eyes she said in a faint voice

- thank you -

She took a few sips and then gave it back to her colleague who, after putting the cap back on, left for the district.

It took about a quarter of an hour, twenty minutes before arriving.

Upton parked the car and noticed that her colleague was fast asleep.

She was torn as to whether to wake him or not, she liked to see him sleep.

He finally seemed so calm.

But unfortunately there was work to be done.

Gently, as her way of doing her, she decided to touch his arm to wake him up, but got no result.

She then decided to kiss him on the cheek.

Even nothing.

She was starting to worry.

Slowly she came to her ear and said:

- Hey Jay you gotta wake up, we're in the district. -

Only a short time later was there a slight rumbling and then Halstead opened his eyes.

He rubbed them with his hands and slowly he started to get out of the car.

His movements were slow. The colleague helped him by staying close to him for any eventuality.

Upon entering the district, Hayley pulled Jay towards the locker room making sure to be out of the prying eyes of his colleagues who would start bombarding him with questions when they saw him.
