He was the last one woken up at eleven on Sunday morning; Chihiro and Mondo had changed for the day and were drinking some tea.
"Shit, did I sleep in?!" Leon instantly worried, nearly jumping out of bed. "Did we miss anything?!"
"Nah, we were waitin' for ya to wake up. I told Makoto-kun and his family we wanted to eat breakfast with them, and they said they could wait until we were all ready," Mondo explained.
"Well shit," Leon quickly pulled on a random pair of clothes he had and shrugged on his backpack. "Let's go then,"
He secretly hoped that Tenko chick wouldn't be eating breakfast alongside them as well, that would be awkward. Even if she forgot about them streaking afterwards, seeing them again would likely resurge the memory and last thing he wanted was to get decked with a tea kettle in front of Makoto and his family.
They headed down to the breakfast area, where Makoto and his family were kneeling at the large table, engaged in conversation with each other. He waved them over and the trio joined them.
"Morning!" Komaru greeted cheerfully. "Sleep well?"
"No. Sleepin' on the floor hurts my back," Leon groaned, holding it as he felt the soreness suddenly. He tried to rub the lower part of his back.
"Right, our dorms back at school have beds, so you're likely not used to it," Makoto said.
"So, what inspired you to check into an inn like this?" Makoto's mom asked sweetly as the staff served everyone their breakfast quickly.
"Yeah, tell us! We love seeing young people wanting to engage with their culture! We do this sightseeing trip every summer and we rarely see people like yourselves!" Makoto's dad added.
"It was my idea to pick this place because I thought we could all take a bath and benefit from a good Japanese breakfast for once! So hearty!" Mondo boasted. "Instead of the fast food we've been eating on the road,"
"Ain't nothing wrong with that," Leon said to himself, slowly picking out what he wanted to eat from the table.
"You're into more traditional culture?" Makoto's mom continued.
"I was raised that way, but I just felt we all needed a change of pace," Mondo answered.
"To be honest, I wasn't expecting to see any of you here!" Makoto laughed awkwardly. "Mondo-kun, maybe, since he likes soaking in the tub and using the sauna at school, but not the other two!"
"T-This place is actually fun!" Chihiro looked away, awkwardly pulling on his shirt under the table to hide his shorts.
"You know where we're goin', but where are you guys goin'?" Mondo asked.
"Sightseeing," Komaru spoke between her bites of rice. "We're going through the scenic countryside to take pictures of temples and old castles and stuff like that,"
"Oh," Mondo nodded. "Sounds like a fun family time,"
"Yeah! We do it every year but it doesn't get any less exciting! We always see something new we haven't seen before!"
Leon finished all he was going to eat and stood up, making everyone look at him. "I'm goin' outside to check on the bike," He then left, doing just that.
The bike itself was fine, but he leaned against it and wished for the second time that trip he was a smoker. Did Mondo have a lighter stored anywhere? He looked at the suitcase but then shook his head. It was tied down super securely and it would take him five minutes to undo all that, and in that time Mondo and Chihiro would come out and ask what he was doing, and even if they wanted to help him they'd still be stuck undoing the suitcase and then tying it back up again.
The next place they stopped at that night, he'd ask Mondo about it.
"Leon-kun!" Chihiro waved to him as they exited the ryokan, and Leon nodded and sat on the bike, taking his place in the back.
"Alright, let's get this show on the road!" Mondo revved his bike up. "I'm full of fish and rice and ready to do this!"
Chihiro pumped his own fist in the air as they drove off, still keeping to backroads but also taking some more urban ones. As with the previous day, Leon couldn't actually enjoy the sights due to the bike's speed, so he just sighed and rested his head on Chihiro's back, not doing anything as they rode along.
The sky changed from light blue to dark blue as they drove along, Chihiro waving at any pedestrians they passed by on the way. Leon looked up and stared up at the sky, noticing how tall the trees were as they grew on the side of the road. Other cars honked as they sped past.
In the late afternoon, they paused to get a late lunch and Chihiro pointed at a girl who was waving at them.
"What'cha want, chick?" Mondo asked in surprise as the girl continued waving, running up to them. She was wearing short lime-green shorts and a white blouse with a random green number printed on the front, a camera with a matching green ribbon around her neck, and a white set of barrettes in her hair.
"A ride," She said bluntly.
"I know you! You're that chick who hates guys from the class above us!" Leon said. "Koizumi Mahiru-senpai!"
"I don't hate guys. I just think they're not as trustworthy and keep pushing work onto girls," Mahiru sighed. "If I hated them, I wouldn't be asking for your guys' help," She then smiled at Chihiro. "And besides, this poor girl needs another girl with her to keep her company,"
"Where are ya goin'?" Mondo asked. "Can't go too far, my bike is already packed,"
"Just a couple blocks down that way," Mahiru easily slid onto the bike, sitting behind Leon and wrapping her arms around him, gasping in surprise as Mondo suddenly revved and sped off, forcing her face to collide with his back. "Watch it!"
Mondo slowed down significantly after hearing that, and Leon craned his neck to look back at Mahiru. She stared back at him, a bossy expression on her features.
"What?"
"Why'd you hitch a ride with us, of all people?" He asked.
"First group I recognized,"
They didn't say anything for a while until Mondo pulled the bike over into a drivethru and gave everyone their regular; Mahiru just got a chicken sandwich and salad meal with tea, a decision that made her roll her eyes a bit.
"Didn't even ask me what I wanted,"
She leaned against the bike and ate quietly while Leon and the other two remained sitting, trying to eat their meals as quickly as possible. Mahiru finished first and looked away, and once the boys were done she got back on the bike, gripping Leon tightly.
"Whoa there, had a change of mind?" He smirked and looked back at her, finding her face flushed. "Oh shit, stop the bike!"
"What?" Mondo skidded the bike to a sudden stop near a dead-end, trying to look back. "What happened?!"
"I'm perfectly fine!" Mahiru insisted, relaxing a bit when Chihiro shyly put a hand on her forehead.
"S-She's burning up!"
"Shit!" Mondo swore. "We gotta take her somewhere, but where?"
"She could just be overheated, or ate something weird. Maybe something's caught in her throat!" Leon suggested, pulling Mahiru over to him. He had heard of it happening; people ate something bad and instantly started acting sick and loopy, but if you got the offending item out they went back to normal. "Lemme try something,"
He pulled Mahiru's face down closer to his and sucked his lips onto hers, trying to bring up her previous meal. Her eyes widened and she struggled, but didn't properly push him away, so he kept trying. When that failed, he punched her stomach, making her cough and gasp.
"The heck are you doing?!"
Leon stopped what he was doing and looked over to find Tenko from the ryokan standing there, dressed differently, striking a shocked pose.
"Wait, it's not what you think-"
"Tenko knew it! You're just some perverts trying to take advantage of a poor girl! Look, you were making out with her!"
Mahiru kept coughing and choking until she gagged and brought up a plastic piece of the fork she used to eat her salad, her eyes widening when she saw it. She held her throat and Leon noticed her feverish expression was gone.
"No, I was trying to help her! She was chokin', see? I saved her!" Leon insisted, pointing to Mahiru.
"Unlikely story!" Tenko huffed. "The next time Tenko sees you three, you're dead! Every single one of you!" She ran off, leaving Mahiru to blink in confusion.
"Who's she?"
"Nobody. How you feelin', chick?" Mondo asked. "You still need that ride?"
"Yeah, but it's only a few more blocks..." She stared at them uneasily. "If there's something I should know about-"
"Look, some people just pick fights for no reason. She's one of them. She hit me on the head with a bucket," Leon sighed.
Mahiru kept staring, crossing her arms in front of her chest. "That said, you did at least help me, the way a man is meant to do for a lady, so thank you for that. Let's just keep going,"
Mondo nodded and after they readjusted their positions, they drove off again, dropping Mahiru off in front of a mall and she waved to them briskly before running off. Leon sighed in relief once she was gone.
She defended them, strangely enough, but what was even stranger was that Tenko chick. How and why did they even run into each other again?! And why did she seem to have it out for them? All because she had the misfortune of walking onto them while they were trying to streak? That was her fault, not theirs! Therefore, they shouldn't constantly be blamed for it!
He didn't say anything for the remainder of their drive, just getting off when they stopped at a hotel, Chihiro checking them in this time.
"Boring theme," Mondo randomly commented, making Leon roll his eyes. Indeed, it wasn't even much of a theme, just puke-green walls and bright yellow carpeting and overall very unappealing, even to someone with a wild fashion sense as Leon himself had.
"It's just for a night though," Chihiro reminded them.
"Yeah, but if the room looks like this, I'm terrified to know what the breakfast looks like," Leon threw his backpack down; it flew due to his strength and smashed into a nightstand lamp, making it fall to the ground and crash. "Shit,"
"Trash the room?" Mondo asked, looking excited for once.
Leon looked around at the bland and gross colours and sparsely-furnished room and eventually nodded. "Hell yeah, let's trash it!"
Mondo grinned and cracked his knuckles, kicking and punching a huge hole in the wall easily, cracking the paint. Leon threw a pillow at the other lamp, causing it to hit the floor and smash loudly. Chihiro ran to the bathroom and turned the shower, tub, and sink nozzles all on, as well as the cleaner in the toilet, stopping up the drain and tub so the water would continue to flow out and overflow. Leon took his heel and kicked in the television, cracking the screen and making it fizzle. Mondo pulled all the blankets off the beds and dunked them in the tub. Chihiro stuck his finger down his throat and gagged easily, puking on the floor before stamping it into the carpet. Leon took off his shoe and threw it at the wall, knocking off several pictures. Mondo pulled apart the pillows and let all the feathers fly around the room, making Chihiro laugh as some tickled his face.
Afterwards, the three sat on the bare beds, breathing heavily.
"I say, mission accomplished," Mondo grinned. "We'll be outta here before they even realized what happened,"
"Y-Yeah, but...where are we supposed to sleep for tonight?" Chihiro chimed in, making the other two widen their eyes.
"Shit, we didn't even think about that!"
"Uh, maybe it'll be fine? We can sleep, wake up early, whatever," Leon shrugged.
"The room is flooded and it smells like puke,"
"I'm sure you've slept in worse conditions!" Leon responded breezily, throwing off his clothing. "Well, good night!" He fell on his bed and closed his eyes, trying to feign sleep in the hopes they wouldn't bother him.
"I think they'd know we trashed the room when they come in after we leave to clean," Chihiro whispered, closing the bathroom door.
"So? We'll be long gone by then," Mondo cracked his knuckles. "Besides, if it makes him happy, I don't mind sittin' in jail. Been in there for worse things than trashin' a hotel room,"
"T-They're not really going to put us in jail over this, right?!" Chihiro asked in concern.
"Nah, I doubt it. We're not worth their time,"
Leon was sure they might've talked more, but he never heard the rest, as he fell asleep after that.
