Okie sooooo, surprise I'm back! I mean it's not like I left, more like I got lazy and may or may not have put it off for a few months... ;)Anyways, let's get on with the story!

Warnings: Makino's caring soul

I don't own One Piece btw, or the characters

Meeting Makino was shocking to Luffy. Never in his life has he meet someone so... kind. She was Luffy's dream mother-figure, and he believes that if maybe from the start, if his mother was as kind as Makino, he wouldn't have had to run away like he did.

(Flashback to an hour ago)

Trudging through the forest, Luffy followed Garp through the lush bushes and trees, listening to the sounds of birds tweeting and animals scurrying away from the powerful Vice-Admiral. Luffy continues to follow him until they reach a large clearing with small homes, and large windmills beyond the hills. Luffy stood in awe looking at the small village. It was so much smaller than Mariejois, but Luffy could tell that everyone there was genuine, and kind. It filled him with a warm feeling knowing that he doesn't have to stay in a place anything like Mariejois.

Garp looked down at Luffy to see a wide smile on his face. The said boy giggled and looked up at Garp. His chocolate brown eyes practically shining.

"Let's go see if Makino can take you in, ne? She's been wanting someone to look after for a while." Garp muttered the last bit to himself. When Garp turned his attention back to the village, he didn't notice the panicked shudder that racked Luffy's body. He was nervous to meet this Makino person, 'what if she's like mother?' he thought to himself, involuntary trembling once again. Even though his eyes held fear, when Garp trudged forward to the village, he too followed along once again, standing tall.

The sun was beginning to set over the ocean, and it honestly would have been a beautiful scene of Luffy wasn't trying to hold back trembles of fear when approaching some kind of bar. Glancing to the sign painted above the door, in big letters was Party's Bar. Garp walked in with a boisterous laugh and Luffy follows him it, a bit reluctantly.

"Ah! Garp-san! Welcome back!" A young woman with dark green hair exclaimed. "Who's that little boy with you?"

"This is Luffy! He's my grandson!" Quickly snapping out of his fearful daze, Luffy turned to the woman cautiously, not knowing what to expect. Seeing the woman taking a step towards him, he took one back, only to hit the wall. Seeing the woman pause, he began to panic. Worried that he made the woman mad as he started shaking once again.

Seeing the woman take a step away from him, he started to relax a little bit. "Hello Luffy," the woman said, backing away from him. "My name is Makino, it nice to meet you." she said, finishing it with a kind smile, Luffy was baffled.

Quickly remembering his manners, Luffy ceased his shaking to reply back to her. "It's nice to meet you too." Luffy said meekly, voice quivering slightly. This woman was kind, he could feel it. But that wasn't enough to gain his trust. After all, who can he truly trust?

(Back to current time)

Garp took a seat on one of the barstools, asking Makino for a drink. Luffy too sat down on one of the stools, folding his legs.

"Is there anything I can get you Luffy?" Makino asked. "I would recommend the chicken tenders." (just so you know i spent an entire day trying to think of some kind of dish, only to come up with this basic idea)

Luffy nodded his head, saying that he would like to try it. Well that sure did set off alarm bells through Makino's head, but Garp was too busy drinking his sake to notice. I mean, what kind of kid has never had chicken tenders?!

Momentarily brushing off her concern, she placed the meal down infront of the five year-old with a smile. Quickly thanking her Luffy picked up a chicken tender, took a look at it, and popped it into his awaiting mouth.

It wasn't gourmet food like he was used to, yet it tasted so much better, and more filled with life. While eating it he realized how bland the food tasted back in Mariejois. How the food lacked the loving touch of someone who truly enjoyed cooking. The food in Mariejois was filled with flavor, but lacked joy.

Widening his eyes, he kept eating, and eating, until there wasn't a single crumb left on his plate.

"My, you must be very hungry!" Makino said, interrupting his thoughts. "Would you like to have some more?" Quickly nodding his head yes with exited eyes, he was given more food to eat. Soon he began to forget he was in the presence of a stranger, and began to open up little by little.
