A/N:
Wow... this chapter was a complete monster to write! I was super busy and I had a severe case of writers block. Please forgive me for this update taking so long! *smacks face* Okay, moving along! This chapter will start in Leo's POV, then Alex's POV as Cat tells her story… which will be interesting, to say the least. I promise I will try super hard to not end in a cliffhanger... but sometimes I just can't resist! Alrighty then, enough of this geeks ramblings, read on, friends!
Brief Recap (since I dared take forever to update, I suppose I should remind you of the terrible cliffhanger I left you with):
The campers are at the beach, waiting for Cat to explain what on earth she meant by "I remember."

Daughter of Chaos
Chapter Five - The Story is Told... Well, part of it.
Leo's POV:
I stared at her for a full minute, waiting extremely patiently for her to elaborate. It's not like she was going to explain that whole screaming and wacky claiming thing with two words. I mean, come on, only I'm annoying enough to do that. Looking around, I saw my confused expression mirrored on every face. Except death boy…does he ever stop having interesting secrets? I'm just over here with a fire hazard which is apparently nothing compared to his vault of spooky dark secrets. I looked back at Cat, but she still didn't say anything, just starting at the sky with a weird look of wonder and shock on her face. I bit my lip, trying to give her time to speak, but I was just too curious.
Percy and I burst at the same time, both blurting out. "What the hades does that mean?" I grinned at him, about to shout jinx, but decided this wasn't quite the right time to do that.
Cat turned to us and met our eyes, her own shimmering with wonder and a million other emotions I couldn't figure out. Honestly, how do girls feel so much at once and not explode? "Everything." She murmured, looking as though she was lost in another world. I nearly exploded, both literally and figuratively, but before I could say anything, Chiron cleared his throat loudly.
"This is a private conversation, campers. We will explain to the rest of you tomorrow. Go on, off to bed now." The campers grumbled and started to walk back to their cabins, obviously wishing they could stay to hear the full story. The Stoll brothers tried to sneak back, but one look from Chiron and they booted it back to the Hermes cabin, giving Cat a 'tell us everything tomorrow' look.
Alex huffed. "Why am I here? Why can't you just be normal humans, and let me go to sleep? This could have been wrapped up hours ago, if y'all didn't act like this is a book and say random things that make no sense and then wait forever to explain." Making a mental note to myself that I wanted to be friends with her, I turned to Chiron, waiting for his answer.
Chiron sighed. "There is…a lot to explain. For now, let's just say you and Jane are a necessary part of this quest." Jane and Alex exchanged glances, then shrugged and sat down.
"Hold up." Annabeth said sharply, and I jumped, having forgotten she was here. "Quest? Me and Percy? On another quest? We are leaving to go to New Rome soon, Chiron. We're done with quests." Percy glanced at his sister, then nodded in agreement.
"In all fairness, it is Percy and Annabeth. Don't tell me you actually expected that to work out… I mean it's you guys, come on." I joked, grinning, until Annabeth turned her death glare on me and wiped it straight off my face. I backed up, hands in the air, trying to keep my voice from squeaking. "Joking! It was just a joke…geez, woman, no need to murder me."
Chiron sighed again, and Alex rolled his eyes. "Having breathing troubles?" She asked sarcastically. I snorted, and saw a jealous look briefly flash across Cat's face, before it reverted back to the million-emotions-at-once look again.
Chiron gave Alex a long-suffering glance, then finally spoke. "Yes, another quest. It is necessary, my dear." His tone softened as he looked at Annabeth. "I'm sorry, but this must be done. I feared this would come someday, but I had hoped it was just myths and nothing more. I was a fool, it seems." He turned to Cat. "Enlighten us all."
Alex's POV:
Drama Queen met Chiron's eyes and hesitated. Then she spoke, and I noticed her voice had a slight lilting accent that hadn't been there before. I narrowed my eyes, but I couldn't place the accent, so I shrugged it off and tried to pay attention.
"I don't think it's something I can explain too easily, Chiron. But perhaps I could show you... though I must start at the beginning. Well the beginning you all know." I blinked and shook my head. My brain hurt already, and she had barely even started.
"Of course, child. Begin." Chiron said, folding his forelegs under him and kneeling on the sand into as much of a sitting position a horse can get.
Drama Queen nodded and began to talk, her accent growing stronger as she did, although I still couldn't place it. "For the sake of those who no nothing of my beginnings in this age, I shall begin there." I raised my eyebrow at her old timey language, but as usual I was too lazy to question anything. "My adopted mother found me in the streets when I was eight years old. I had been living homeless in Manhattan for 3 weeks then, but other than that, I had no memory of anything, not even my name. The first thing I remembered was waking up in a dumpster, and feeling awkward and small. Anyway, I was adopted and lived with my new family for years, eventually finding out I was a demigod the same time Perce did. So I started going to camp, nothing big happened to me, so life was normal, well normal for a demigod at least. Except I was never claimed, and I had no memories before the age of eight, when I woke in the streets." She paused for breath, and I noticed only Jane and I looked startled. Apparently everyone else knew this part already. "But tonight," she began again. "I finally received my memories back." Several of the others gasped and smiled slightly.
Chiron nodded thoughtfully. "Is there anything valuable in those eight years of memories? Or is it simply that you finally remember your past life and have been claimed?"
She looked up then, meeting his eyes with a serious look. "Not eight years, Chiron. Eight millennia."
Everyone froze, gaping at her, even Chiron. Nico, naturally, did not look shocked at all, and not for the first time, I wondered why none of this seemed to be phasing him at all. I grinned at her as everyone stared, open-mouthed. "I think you broke them."
She snorted slightly but didn't meet my eyes. "This is the part better shown, not told." She stood up, her hair falling in her face as she did so. I glanced behind her, noting that the sun had fully sunk into the sea, leaving the beach bathed in soft moonlight. She walked to the middle of the dock, light from the dying bonfire flickering around her. As she extended her arm, multi-colored crystals appeared from thin air and swirled around her arm. A smile spread across her face, as if greeting an old friend.
I huffed and crossed my arms. "That's cool and all, but can you hurry up, princess? I ain't got all night." Water boy shot me a glare, and Nico tried to contain a snort. I glared right back at him, smirking as he looked away.
Catalia sighed and started talking again, the crystals forming a shimmering picture as she spoke. "You all know the story of the Greek gods. At least the basics. But what you don't know is that isn't the full story. Before the Titans and Giants, before Gaea and Ouranos even, there was another Primordial."
Chiron's eyes widened slightly, and nearly everyone sucked in a breath. I was surprised, but not as much as everything else, as the whole mythology world was new to me. "What do you mean, another one?" The blond daughter of Athena asked, her stormy eyes alight with curiosity and shock. "I thought before Gaea it was only Chaos."
Catalia shook her head. "That's what everyone thinks, and in a way, it's true. But before Chaos formed Gaea, there was a whole world, more advanced and peaceful than our own." The crystals, which had been swirling idly as she spoke, now formed into a 3D picture behind her. This time, I gasped too, astounded by what I saw. A city made entirely of glass and jewels filled the air behind and around her. She smiled wistfully, then tore herself away at Jane's voice.
"Are those… flying cars?" Jane whispered, her voice filled with awe. Catalia nodded, and Jane walked closer to the picture shimmering in the air, staring at in wonder.
"Cat… what…how…" Percy looked completely confused, and Annabeth, seated next to him, seemed to have been struck mute by the city.
Catalia waved her hand through the image and it shimmered and vanished into the night air. "Before you start asking a million questions, let me explain. Chaos was all alone in an empty world filled with darkness. So he formed a companion, someone to fill the hole in the universe. Chaos is a dark being, composed entirely of darkness and destruction, with no emotions or personality. So what he created was the exact opposite of him. A female, full of light and personality, with the power to create anything she wished. A crystal of light and color in a world filled with darkness and no form." Annabeth gasped, telling me I wasn't the only one who made the connection with the claiming symbol earlier and the crystals now swirling around her. "Not long after, Episis had created a whole world, full of light and love. The perfect world… but nothing perfect lasts forever. She made a mistake… she fell in love. She had restrained herself for thousands of years, but finally, she gave in to her feelings and married a human man."
Jane's eyes shot open. "You're telling me a Primordial… married a mortal?" She gasped, incredulous.
Catalia turned to her, smiling. "It was much different then, but yes. However, he was not mortal. None of the humans were. They were all immortal, in the way that the Hunters are. But as it was a perfect world, no death had happened yet." Everyone's mouths dropped open then, shocked at this new revelation. "After a few years, she birthed a child. A daughter, that she named Teleitia, meaning perfection in Greek." I was starting to have suspicions about the ending of the story, as everyone else did, but we let her continue speaking. I could tell it was taking the boys quite a bit of effort to stay quiet, judging by Leo's smoking hands. "She was blissfully happy, until Chaos discovered the child. He was angry and jealous, as he had created Episis to be his companion. But now she ignored him, shoving him into the farthest reaches of the world, happy with her mortal family. So he stole her daughter and took her into his realm with him. He changed her, giving her dark power of his own, equal to the power she had from her mother."
I interrupted, unable to contain my questions anymore. "So you're saying this girl is now a demi-god, but with two Primordials powers? So what, she basically has three parents?"
She nodded, looking grim. "Exactly. She was more powerful than the gods today are, except that she was still part mortal, her main weakness. I know it's weird, but isn't all mythology?"
I nodded slowly and sat back, but I could see confusion and shock written on everyone's faces. "So… what happened?" Jane asked, enthralled in the story.
Catalia sighed. "She developed a split personality, since the two sides of her were so different. It was almost like the gods now, when they struggle between their Greek and Roman personalities. The only thing holding her together was her ties to the mortal world. She lived in between her mother and father, almost as Persephone does now with Demeter and Hades. So life was good again, until she abandoned Chaos and only lived with her mother. So Chaos created a child of pure darkness. He was more powerful than Teletia, with no mortal blood in his veins, only darkness. And so Chaos was satisfied, and Teletia bonded some with her new half-brother, so she spent more time with Chaos."
"First of all, he sounds super creepy. Secondly, if everything is all good now, why don't we get this super perfect world now?" Leo interrupted, his face burning with millions of questions.
Catalia shot him a glare. "Shush. Save questions till I'm finished." She said, then continued. "But naturally, things went wrong again, as they tend to do. Chaos could not contain his jealousy, as he and his son were always shunned from society due to their dark nature. The last straw was when he fought with Episis. His jealousy and anger consumed the whole world… destroying everything."
The crystals behind her swirled into an image again, and we watched, breathless, as darkness consumed this shining city, until only chaos remained. Annabeth gave a pained gasp, but held her tongue. "Did-did they all die?" Jane whispered.
Catalia nodded, a tear slipping down her cheek. "No one survived… expect Teletia. Her mother, unable to stop Chaos, spent the last of her power creating a safe haven for her daughter, the only place that didn't get consumed by Chaos. Before she could save any of the mortals, Chaos killed her, and she dissolved into the nothingness from whence she came. Teletia was the only survivor, and it was thousands of years before Chaos calmed and created Gaea. But you know the story from there."
Jane looked shocked and sad, but like the rest of us, she held her questions in. Well, most of us, anyway. "What does all this have to do with you? And how do you know all of this?" Leo burst out, unable to contain himself any longer.
Catalia stopped his outburst with a solemn look, then murmured the words I had been expecting for ages. "Because… I am Teletia."
