The rest of the day went by quickly but when the last bell rang, Alya was back. "Marinette" she said from behind, excitement ringing in her voice. "Why don't we go out for a while, you know, just to take your mind of things?"
"Alya I have to get back to the bakery, you know mum and dad will be worried." Marinette said back.
"Oh come on please. Just 30minutes"Alya tried again.
"Just 30 minutes" Marinette repeated before she finally agreed.
"Yay!" Alya let out a shout of victory while Marinette just rolled her eyes. They walked down the halls and outside the school before making a sharp turn towards a corner on the left. "Alya, where are we going" Marinette asked as they headed deeper into the corner. It seemed like an endless tunnel with walls on either side of the narrow path and the deeper they went, the darker it got.
"Don't worry, we're almost there." She replied barely looking up from her phone and just like that, like there was magic in her words, Alya stopped and Marinette finally noticed a door. "Come on, go in" Alya said, giving her a little push. "Holding her breath, Marinette turned the door knob.
It was dark inside, like where she was coming from. She took a step in when suddenly, the lights turned on. Startled, she turned around to look for the source. She sighed in relief as her eyes spotted the source. "Oh, Luka it's just you".
"Hey Marinette" he sounded a little nervous but Marinette didn't think too much about it. "Come sit with me" he said, his voice bolder now, completely clear from its previous nervousness. "Okay" she took a seat beside him and looked around. The room was empty but for the two chairs on which they sat and Luka's guitar. He picked it up and plucked a few strings before looking up at her with a small smile.
He continued, his pace slow and steady, the sound was harmonious and Marinette soon got lost in the melody. The tune was soft and gentle, satisfying even. As Marinette swayed slightly to the rhythm, she couldn't help but feel there was a message in the song, some unspoken emotion. She'd always known that Luka paid her some sort of special attention but she just hoped it wasn't what she thought it was.
The song slowed down until it stopped and Luka turned to look at her. His gaze was so intense and Marinette had to look away to keep her thoughts in check. "Marinette" he breathed and she turned to face him again. "Ever since the day I saw you on that ship, I've always known you were a special girl, I just didn't think things would turn out like this."
Oh no, Marinette thought to herself. She knew where this was going. She wasn't ready for this. She hadn't gotten over her kitty and she didn't think she would get over him anytime soon. "Luka" she said gently cutting through his emotional speech. "I um" how could she put this.
"Marinette, I love you, I've loved you since the first day I set my eyes on you. I-"
"I don't love you Luka, I never did and I never would." She said a bit too harshly as thoughts of her kitty flashed through her mind. She remembered all the times when he'd told her he loved her but she rejected him. She'd always push him away and now she's lost him. A stray tear fell down her cheek. "I'm sorry, I'm in love with someone else" she said but when she looked up he was gone and a villain stood in his place.
"Marinette, if I can't have, no one else would" his dark voice reverberated through the walls as he grabbed her with his hands. "Wait Luka please."
"Luka's gone, its heartbreaker that's left and guess what, you did this to me."
The world seemed to have disappeared and her mind stopped working as she registered his words. He was right, she'd gotten him akumatized. She, Paris' most loved superhero had gotten someone akumatized. She'd not only shouted at him but also crushed his heart. This was all her fault and she could do anything about it but cry. As tears flowed down her cheeked she heard a loud bang before she was dropped to the ground. Heartbreaker was on the floor and was soon morphed back to luka.
"Whohooo!" Alya screamed as she captured the black butterfly in an empty jar "bye bye little butterfly" she mimicked ladybug before squealed "ladybug's gonna be so proud of- "she cut herself off when she noticed Marinette still on the floor. "Marinette are you okay" she knelt down beside her but the girl continued crying completely discharged from the outside world.
Alya called the police and they cleared everywhere up and since ladybug was nowhere to be found, the butterfly remained with the police waiting for her
Luka's mom travelled with him and his sister so he could calm down a bit. That was a month ago and they still weren't back yet. Life went on, people made up and although Rose missed her best friend, she was doing fine. She and Marc got closer and before long they started dating.
Senior prom was coming soon and prom proposals were heard everywhere. Adrien was back and everyone was having a good time, everyone except Marinette. She missed her kitty and she didn't even have the zeal to crush on Adrien anymore. Ever since the day she realized she'd lost her partner, her friend, her love she'd never remained the same. The sparks in her eyes where gone, the joy in her smiles had faded. Everything was gone and before long she became numb.
And then when the long expected day finally came, Marinette stayed at home. With the rose Chat noir had dropped in her hands, and Tikki's comforting words, Marinette came up with a conclusion: she was going to find her kitty.
