Anubis knew that he was the odd one out when it came to his friendship with Khepri and Thoth. The two were intelligent, and tend to be anti-social when he wasn't around. They were quiet and moody, while Anubis was having fun with whatever they were doing. Anubis only met Khepri right before the Land of the Dead erupted into civil war. He had met Thot a few centuries before that since they were coworkers. Anubis would weigh the heart, and Thoth would record whatever needed to be written down. As a result, Anubis had gained the skill of being able to read people. People that were considered 'bad' or 'evil' usually reacted in different ways. The truly evil usually tried to lie their way out of their punishment, despite Anubis holding their heart in his hands. Others lied through their teeth, denying that they weren't bad people. Anubis' favorite were those who seemed resigned to her fate, claiming that their evil was necessary for whatever they viewed as peace. Many good people have committed evil in the name of what they believe is right, so how are they considered good or why are some called bad people?
One man's hero was another's villain. This was the truth that was constant in both life and death. Anubis, Thot, and Khepri were considered heroes for their actions throughout the war, yet to the followers of Set, they were the boogeyman, monsters that hid under their beds. Even the mortals feared the day should they ever meet Anubis and Thoth.
So when Anubis met Khepri for the first time, he knew that there was something different about her. Amun-Ra, Osiris, and Set claimed that she was a relatively new goddess that had joined their pantheon, but Anubis knew better than that. Her stance was similar to those fallen soldiers he judged. Her hands always reached for a weapon that wasn't there, with her body switching in and out of a combat stance. Still, there was one thing that Anubis knew for certain, Khepri was a good person deep down. Sure she acted like she would rather be anywhere else sometimes, but deep down, she was nothing but a big softy. For example, Anubis knew that Khepri went to sleep with a giant scarab plushie that she called Atlas. Why she named the plushie after one of the Greek Titans, Anubis didn't bother to ask. That seemed a bit personal.
Anubis glanced at Thot who was sitting about five feet away from him and scrubbing violently in a notebook. They were both currently sitting in a jacuzzi on the roof of their hotel. The water was nice, not as good as the water from the Nile, but it was nice.
"Hey Thot. Do you know where Khepri is?" Anubis asked as a rather delicious looking nymph dressed in a tight skirt and crop top handed him his phone on a silver platter. "Thanks luv." She blushed softly and quickly retreated back to where her fellow nymphs stood as they waited on them hand and foot.
"I believe she's still sleeping. You got her drunk yesterday, remember? Poor thing is probably nursing a hangover." Oh yeah, Anubis kept forgetting that Khepri was a lightweight when it came to drinking.
"Heh." Anubis formed a big grin on his face. Khepri liked to say stupid puns whenever she was drunk. Some of them were actually quite funny. "She just likes sleeping in for once since Amun-Ra sent her on 'vacation' with us." Amun-Ra had told Khepri that someone else would cover her shift in bringing in the morning sun. Poor Khepri almost had a heart attack. Wait, why did Thot have a notebook in a hot tub?
"Perhaps." Thot looked up from his notebook and glared at Anubis. "The notebook is waterproof, in case you think of trying anything." Thot narrowed his eyes, which Anubis responded with a sheepish smile.
"Yeah yeah." Anubis leaned his head back as the delicious nymph returned with a bunch of grapes. They were his favorite despite being allergic! Anubis didn't care though, life was all about that risk and reward baby.
Munching happily on his grapes as the nymph fed him one by one, Anubis never noticed the third person that stood behind him.
"Two guys chilling in a hot tub, five feet apart cuz they're not gay." Khepri giggled softly as she fell into the water wearing her pajamas, splashing water all around her in a drunken stupor. Thankfully, the nymph also got soaked which led to Anubis seeing a lot more than he should have.
"Gah!" Thot tried protecting his waterproof notebook with his body. Huh, probably a habit from one of Anubis' many pranks over the centuries. Khepri started flailing in the water, before she forced herself onto the concrete alongside the hot tub. Taking several deep breaths Khepri laid on her back coughing up water.
"Good morning to you too." Thot said dryly as he shook off some drops of water from his notebook. Khepri gave him a thumbs up in response. "And it's not that we aren't gay, I just prefer having my personal space not being invaded by a ball of fur."
Anubis wiggled his eyebrow. "I'm willing to try it if you are~." It was fun to mess with Thot.
Thot gave him a blank stare. "Only in your wildest dreams." Yeah, he prefered girls too, but he had experimented in the past.
"Whatever floats your boat." Khepri muttered as she sat up completely soaked, her matted hair clinging to her wet skin along with her light blue pajamas.
"I take it that your accident cured your hangover?" Thot asked as he closed his notebook and placed it next to him. Khepri groaned and rubbed her forehead while nodding. After eating a few more grapes, the nymph retreated to go and change out of her wet close, sadly.
"I guess." Khepri stood up slowly. "What's our schedule?"
Thot glanced at his watch. Why was he wearing a watch while in a hot tub? Yeah, that was the question of the century.
"Anubis and myself have to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony in about an hour, then we have dinner with Poseidon and his wife in the afternoon. You're free until then I suppose." Thot said as he started to get out of the hot tub. Suddenly, Anubis' phone started to buzz. Glancing at his phone, his grin grew even more.
"Hey guys, come and look at this." Thot and Khepri gathered around him to look at the tabloid article Anubis followed.
"I didn't expect that Hades would be like his brothers, sleeping with some flower nymph." Anubis said as they stared at the picture where the king of the Underworld was talking with some beautiful, buxom, pink nymph wearing a nice fur coat. She seemed a bit familiar.
Khepri's grimace was on full display. "That's not a nymph."
It was Thot's and Anubis' turn to stare at her with wide eyes.
"That's Persephone, the goddess of spring."

NOT EVERYTHING WILL BE REVEALED AT ONCE SO HOLD YOUR HORSES.
Leaving that aside, who is the best boy? Thot or Anubis? I'm not talking about shipping Taylor with any of them, I'm just curious.
Also, Bangtan Taylor is out so feel free to check it out.
